Friendly staff and great seafood. The hake was perfectly fried and very tasty. All food was freshly prepared and delicious. We enjoyed "The Basket" starter too - got devoured before a pic could be taken. That grapefruit drink as well as the ginger beer option was quite good and we will definitely be going back for more.

I tasted the halloumi, lemon butter prawns, hake fillet and and the fish bites. Everything was delicious and they did not disappoint. I was especially impressed with the "prince" prawns which were bigger than expected, cooked perfectly and peeled away so easily from the shell. The service was great too. Will definitely recommend this restaurant for great seafood.

The food here, fish of course, was very good and the service was helpful and efficient. The very hard surfaces and big glass doors make it seem part of the mall outside so not very comfortable.

The food was good 👍although the fish still had scales. Service was slow due to being short of staff. Waiters were more interested in serving regular patrons rather than all. In fact, leaving our table whilst taking the order to attend to a regular customer, which was not on. The manager stepped in to assist.

Food is usually fresh, well prepared and delicious. They do miss the mark on the odd occasion! Staff are mostly very customer oriented, friendly and welcoming, yet not intrusive at all. My "return to" spot. NB: I truly do not get the "halaal" bit though! Each to their own, me thinks.

2nd Jan.. It was a long wait only 3 waiters.. But definitely worth the wait.. Food was outstanding.. our waitress Deandre was an absolute star.. And for the food I will score you a full ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars.. Had dinner Tuesday evening 24 January 2023. Service was outstanding. On doing take-out when passing Ocean Basket Killarney on Sunday chef Waheed explained that he would prepare a 200 Salmon fillet with skin on when delivered Tuesday. He called me 11 am Tuesday to confirm details. I also provided my meal preparation and preferences:- 1. I love the tart lemon-garlic-butter sauce usually only served with mussels. I asked for that sauce with the salmon. 2. Salmon was to be done with skin side seared, then baked / grilled medium. 3. Stir-fried veg. I was served sauce separately in a pan with 2x oysters as starter. Umami contrast was superb, subtler oyster delicacy surrounded under tartly peppered lemon-garlic-butter sauce was an exquisite appetizer. Attention to detail requested was outstanding!! Main course salmon was done as requested. The crispy salmon skin, heat-bubbled base was a refreshing delight to which I added lemon-garlic-butter sauce and fronds of stir-fried veg. Service was excellent, most superb. I shall visit again surely. My favourite fish is hake, skin-on and hopefully they will do the same for me with that soon.

Waiter got my order completely wrong. I asked for fried fish he brought grilled when I asked 4 fried he said but grilled is nice. I said i want what i ordered. He brought chips I ordered rice.. I eventually got the right order but no butter sauce. I asked abd got.the gentleman next to me also got the wrong vegetables from the same waiter. This OB won't see me again. Peter was the waiters

Food O.K. Service inbelievably poor as is the management. Got food after other customers who arrived after us. Incomplete amount of Veg after we had almost finished fish without serving utensils then given a fork to serve up butternut and spinach. After complaint given a sundae spoon. No spoons. Side plate removed by other waiter so we put prawn shells on condiment plate and tablecloth etc etc

No value for money. Platter for one featured HALF a fish and a grand total of 3 tiny prawns! I asked the waitress about this and she said the fish weight was the correct grams and the 3 prawns is the standard for platter for one. I'm not impressed as prices keep going up and portion size down.

Located in Killarney. We had the platter for two. It can with Fish, Calamari, Prawns and clams. I have tried the other branches, this particular one was pathetic. First of all the staff were all watching a soccer match on TV and not attending guests. The salad was served in the end of the meal. It was very soggy, looked like it was made from before an left for along time, before it was served to us. The prawn also did not look fresh. Poor taste of food. and Poor service.

Went to Ocean Basket two nights in a row for their sushi. I had not had sushi for the whole year so u can call it"catching up"!!! Ocean basket is a good Franchise, nothing special nothing bad. The service was great, I ordered a take away so there is not much I can say about the service but for the time I was there it was good. The sushi at ocean basket is not mind blowing but its acceptable. It's not exciting as such but it's sushi. It will serve your sushi craving I can tell u. Prices it's ok for what you get.

I only ever come here for take away and it's convenient. This time around I ordered an unpretentious fish and chips plus I got a a nice serving. At R59, it's worth taking a day off from cooking midweek supper.

Disappointing experience The meals were just sad, I found my prawn special with stir fried veg oily and overly salty... The sushi (Salmon roses and Mediterrasian platter) was served as incredibly tiny pieces on dirty plates! Also the fish was just not fresh... It just did not compare (look or taste) with the sushi from the other Ocean Baskets that I've been to. Apart from gross food, the meals took over 45 minutes to arrive and the restaurant was definitely not busy so I cant understand why it took that long. I have eaten here occasionally before...it is definitely becoming progressively worse

I don't usually do reviews for restaurant chains (especially not ones situated in malls), but I really do like coming here. I absolutely despise going to malls or eating there, but Killarney is so small that you don't really realise that you are in a shopping centre. This Ocean Basket isn't the busiest, so the waiters are always around and helpful - even charging our phones at the back one evening when we had a power outage. I love the platters here! The food is always really fresh and I even quite enjoy their sushi selection.

I had not been to an ocean basket in years, but popped in there for dinner the other night. It was very busy and the staff seemed a little frazzled, but were still very friendly. Food was good, although I wish they had put my lemon butter sauce on the side as it made the lovely crisp batter a little soggy.

Killarney Mall is not exactly bustling with "youthful exuberance" it's Usually filled with the older demographic. The staff is friendly, the service a tad bit slow but bearable... You may wait for the food a bit but it's worth it; Hot, fresh and tasty. I love me some Ocean Basket. Unpretentious seafood at it's best.

This is the first time i've been to this branch and its the best i've ever tasted. Better than the other branches! The food was really quick, it arrived almost within 5 minutes after our bread came! I ordered a fish and chips and the fish was just fried so nicely! Definitely will come back to this branch!

Those starter rolls,which I absolutely hate are always served stodgy. They really need to change their variety every month.Prawns were fresh and tasty, at a budget price.Waiting staff accommodating. Overall a good average experience.

I've been here several times when I'm in the area, and unfortunately I find their standard to be deteriorating. The grilled fish was terribly dry, along with the chips...their halloumi is nice tho. 😊 however, the sticky toffee pudding a had was overly baked and didn't taste as it should. The service was also quite poor, there was confusion as to who should serve me. So I had no waiter for a while. I also noticed that the waiters were overtly rude to two of the waiters who weren't South African. That's in poor taste, especially in front of customers.

We had a delicious dinner here. We had the rainbow rolls as a starter and the sushi was fresh and tasty. We both had the fish and chips as a main course which we really enjoyed. The portions were generous and overall a great experience. We will be back!

If it wasn't for the good service I would've rated this Ocean Basket poorly. The food was average. I ordered the prince prawns special and I found that the prawns were not prepared according to how I wanted it to be prepared. It was very dry and lacked flavour. My waiter however, was friendly and apologized for the poor dish which is why I'll give them another try.

Ocean basket has become one of those places that you default to for a quick meal. The service is normally friendly and efficient. I normally have sushi there, their mussel's are also pretty delicious! Today I had some salmon california rolls and tempura prawn rolls. It would be great if the california rolls allowed for plates of 4 and not just 8 as it limits the choice of dishes if you don't eat big portions. The prawn tempura also wasn't very crunchy throughout all the pieces which was disappointing. Perhaps it was an off day.

I love the fact that when my stomach demands sushi and I whatsapp my friends, I am guaranteed that somebody will join me for a quick one. We settled for the salmon platter and a bottle of Beachhouse Sav Blanc, an easygoing quaffing wine and some of my fav sushi all in one sitting. No great shakes on the menu choice and I do feel that their sushi is a tad overpriced, but all in all a pleasant experience. Now back to work to attend to matters of the economy because someone has to.

One of my top choices for takeaways, as they do home deliveries within Killarney. I've always felt that the sushi is average and overpriced, but nothing beats their calamari/hake with chips or rice. Well priced too. Portions are good, and I've always enjoyed my meal. Delivery has always been quick and very convenient. What's not to like?

Ocean Basket is a franchise, so you won't get any surprises here. Their kitchen does, however, deliver consistently good food, unlike the Rosebank and Melrose Arch branches, which can't seem to cope with high customer volumes, and allow the quality to slip.

I've always had good service from this branch. However, the food is average at best. But this is Ocean Basket, and as my husband says - you always know what you're going to get at Ocean Basket (I.e. it's not fine dining, but it's OK). We ordered the regulars - sushi and prawns. I did however enjoy my batch of garlic mussels, so I can't complain there. If I had a slice of bread, I would have mopped up the leftover sauce in the most undignified way. Luckily I spared my friend that humiliation. The manager informed me that he uses different glasses for his Muslim patrons because he doesn't like to mix them up with the wine glasses while doing the washing - so there's no contamination. That's really quite thoughtful and considerate. It's rare for a non-halaal establishment to think that way. Well done on that. That adds a few points to this review.

Will never ever go to this restaurant again. The service and food were exceptionally awful on the occasion we went. The waiter was very slow and waited a good ten minutes before he took our order. We ordered the standard 69 rands deal and it took a further half an hour for them to prepare our prawns. Our food arrived burnt and with barely any sauce. We had also ordered it spicy but there was absolutely no spice. The prawns were the smallest prawns I have ever seen. We did not send out meals back because I waiter could not tell what our issues were. I would definitely not go to this restaurant. Killarney mall is a small mall best frequented for groceries and other basics, food here is sparse.

The Ocean Basket in Killarney is a nice spot for a lunch meet up. The service is good but at times can be a little slow. What's sets it apart from other Ocean Baskets is its free delivery special,which means you can enjoy seafood without leaving home. I enjoy their 3 way calamari platter as well as the calamari and Cajun prawn combo. Good portions and value for money. Im not a big rice fan but ocean basket rice dunked with lemon butter sauce is worth a try. I like the airy feel to this place.
