Oh boy what can I say? This restaurant strives to give you your money's worth. Great entertainment, ambiance, and delicious cultural food. I will definitely visit again when I'm in Cape Town, SA.
Gold restaurant was an enchanting venue sporting a fun percussive atmosphere. A worthwhile visit for anyone wishing to enjoy a rich south african vibe.
03.12.2019 While on conference one of our team dinners was held at @Gold Restaurant
It's an African themed eatery with amazing decor and prides itself on 4 F's, namely Food, Flavour Family and Friends. I would even add Fun, because on arrival we started off with marimba percussion and djembe drums and then a drumming session which got the evening off to a fun start for all.
The 14 dish tasting menu items are served "buffet" style on the tables to share, which I think was a bit small for the number of people having to share between us. Especially since some of the food was not to everyone's liking, and wished we had more of certain dishes.
The ones that stood out for me were:
•SOUTH AFRICAN SEARED OSTRICH FILLET SALAD
Marinated Ostrich fillet is combined with summer greens for a delicious start to our African Feast
•TUNISIAN PRAWN BRIOUAT
Briouats translates into “little Parcels” and are enjoyed all over North Africa and can be filled with savoury or sweet fillings
•MOZAMBIQUAN CHILI CHICKEN WINGS
This Mozambiquan specialty honours Portuguese seafarers who sailed around the African continent during the 16th century searching for gold, precious stones, ivory, amber and spices. Enjoy with the Ethiopian IAB to calm the fire
•SOUTH AFRICAN LAMB AND SPRINGBOK SAMOOSAS
Variations of these crisp pastries can be found throughout the Middle East and Northern African countries, including South Africa. We fill ours with minced organic lamb and springbok
•TANZANIAN FISH CURRY
With fresh water lakes on its Western and Northern borders, and Indian ocean to the East, Tanzania has an abundant selection of fish dishes. This one is delicately flavoured with coconut milk and fresh spinach
Dessert was only a choice of Ice Cream or Pumpkin fritters (which needed more flavour)
To end off the evening all the staff joined in on a singing and dancing stint to say farewell. Service was good and all the staff really seem to enjoy themselves and being there, which shows 😁
It's a lovely restaurant, and has a great vibe. The food was good, and something different, but some were still hungry.

Recently went there for a staff dinner and lemme just say this place is LIT! The food is sooooo yummy. The drinks were poppiby and the staff was amazing. Highly reconsidering having my 25th birthday dinner here. Love love love it
What an experience! Picturesque decor & cultural themed restaurant worth visiting if you are not from africa. Astonishing live performances. Menu is already set; 14 different dishes from various region in the continent, which is an absolute culinary treat served by waitresses in colorful dresses. Will definitely recommend this place for those looking for all-rounder african experience.
GOLD was an incredible, fun and unique experience. We went there as part of a work function and I loved every moment of it. From the drumming in the beginning, to the entertainment, food, dancers, etc all through the night, it was such an experience! The dishes were delicious and I enjoyed learning about the origin of each dish (each from a different place in Africa). As South Africans, we often don't get to experience an authentic African culture, as it's often watered down, especially in Cape Town. Will definitely come back again and bring all my friends!
My boss was in town for the week and requested that we do a team building dinner. Instantly knew that this was the place to go to, because it combines activities with shows while having an African dining experience.
We started off with a 30 min drum lesson. Sooo much fun. Then all throughout the evening we were entertained by singing, dancing and drumming. It’s so cool that the performers interact with the diners and include them into their performances!
The food is not the greatest - but it’s not meant to be fine dining, rather causal street food and ‘homely’ dishes originating from multiple countries across Africa.
It’s super touristy, but definitely worth checking out!
Went to Gold restaurant friday and I had the best time , the ambiance, vibe and food was fantastic. The summer menu - 14 course supper was a delight to my tastebuds. It is a filling menu - so I would suggest drinking water as there is so much different tastes you need a breather between each course. The performers & the interactive drumming shows off Africa in a positive way and the interaction with diners makes Gold one of the most entertaining suppers I have ever had
This is a very authentic restaurant set in an awesome location within an old building. The African vibe is a bit touristy but still very cool. The food is bits and pieces from all over Africa which makes it interesting. There is a fun atmosphere with interactive singing and dancing although I must admit at one point the performance did get a bit much for me but I still had loads of fun.
Africa is known to have a very rich cultural background and a continent where cultural diversity are embodied in food and culture.
A vibrant place that captures the style and essence of Africa. It feels like I have stumbled upon gold! From the moment you walk in the door of Gold, this aged brick warehouse with colourful, traditional African décor sweeps you away for a once-in-lifetime experience.
The entertainment at Gold is nearly a bigger part of the experience than the food. During our meal you are entertained by a tall Mali puppet with singers and dancers ready to captivate you with traditional African performances.
Their 14-course set menu takes you on a taste safari with cuisines from all over Africa. The evening begins by a hand washing ceremony and then the feast commences. We started off our taste safari with a South African Spicy Tomato soup accompanied with Roosterkoek (bread prepared over the coals). So flavourful and fragrant with spice. The Cape smoked fish pate was delicious and enjoyed on the Roosterkoek.
Our taste safari took us on a journey to Kenya, Algeria, Ethiopia & Tunisia. From the Kenyan Irio Patties made from maize meal and morogo (leafy greens) to the Tunisian Briouats (pastry parcels filled with cashew nuts and ginger), every dish was delicious. The Algerian Kofta Kebabs was flavoursome and the Ethiopian lab made from cured cheese, herbs and garlic added as a refreshing dip to the Koftas.
Our taste safari took us further on a sensory discovery of several sharing main dishes from across Africa. The mains included a delicious Namibian Venison (Springbok), a fragrant Cape Malay Chicken Curry, Moroccan Sweet Potato and Butternut Tagine, traditional Nigerian Corn and Beans and my favourite the Cameroon Mchicha (spinach with added coconut and ground nuts). No African dish is complete with traditional African creamy pap to marry all the authentic flavours of Africa.
We ended our taste safari with a sweet sago and vermicelli warm dessert (Cape Malay Boeber) served with a dusting of gold dust.
A great night filled with fun, laughter, African rhythms and delicious African cuisine. A great way to explore the charm and the cuisines our own continent has to offer. Definitely worth a pot of gold!
Went here for an office teambuilding event which was started off with a very exciting and exuberant drumming lesson. A great laugh was had and we worked up a proper appetite in anticipation of our continental meal. The food was simply superb from start to finish, and the attention to detail and service was fantastic. I'm not one for snoek pate but I've certainly been converted thanks to the zesty zing from Gold Restaurant's version. Another personal favourite was their mchicha - spinach cooked with peanuts, giving this veggie staple a decidedly unique flavor and one that I couldn't get enough of! There were three birthdays in our department this month and the performers made us feel very special by bringing over cake, singing happy birthday to us, and having us dance with them. I highly recommend this place and would definitely go back.
An exceptional experience. From the drum show, to the food, the different presentations and arts display, everything here is a rich display of the diverse African culture and it’s a perfect experience not just for tourists but for locals who want to experience arts & dining all at the same time.
They have a full house but somehow they still try to cater for everyone with a good service.
Awesome experience! Will definitely be back.
Absolutely loved it! A must do when u visit cape town. Rich and diverse menu and the vibe is awesome! Wish someone told me what to dress to blend in even more. Everyone is very welcoming and they even offer face painting. DO IT
A very crazy and fun experience in which you delve deep into African culture..
The atmosphere is loud, wonderful, and full of life, and you will have the opportunity to participate in beating the drums and tasting foods from African cuisine.
The service is excellent and the atmosphere is great
An experience I highly recommend.👍🏻
Yes, it is touristy, but there are good and bad kinds of touristy. This is a good one. I had low expectations for food, but all the food was actually quite good and quality. It is food from all of Africa and it's unlimited (you can ask for more of anything). They didn't give me the food menu but I had steak salad, bread and minced chicken dip, chicken wings, Antelope curry, hake and shrimp curry, couscous, another salad, ice cream. The menu constantly changes. Wine list was quite extensive. Small groups of performers come by throughout your meal. Servers were kind. They even had us join them on stage for a bit of dancing which was fun. For 455R, I think it's very reasonable. It's free to reserve online and it may be a good idea, but I did see walk ins as well. Overall, great experience and I recommend it
We went for a corporate dinner and had a very nice experience. We start with drinks and a drumming session. Followed by a set menu with items from around Africa. Each item is cooked to perfection and has a Vegan alternative for the meat/seafood based ones. They serve small portions and if you like a certain item can ask for more. Overall atmosphere is excellent.
What a spectacular place. The show is amazing and the plates of food they serve at the table are excellent. The staff are very attentive and keep the glasses filled and the entertainment going. It's a lovely place to go with a group of people for a special occasion or company event.
Overall, it was a decent experience for me, but not something I'd repeat.
Excellent service with kindness from the waitresses. Half of the food was good, the other half was alright. It's a lot of food as you can imagine from the # of courses being served.
The whole decor, wardrobe, performance, and entertainment engaging the audience are quite interesting. However, it feels more theatric than authentic. If you are someone who's a traveler not a tourist who's actually keen on local cultures and history, you'll feel that this place is meant for tourists. If I may say, my experience at Waterfront was a lot of authentic, where I interacted with the Indigenous performers and donated money directly. Mojo is also a place to be when you are looking for something more contemporary.
Wow. This night was unforgetabel. Even tho it was very touristy it 100% felt so local. We loved the food and the service. Got to try so many diverse dishes which was incredible. Loved the music and how the guests where involved with the drums. The atmosphere got very special at the end while everyone was dancing and singing together on stage. Highly recommended.
Gold is a must-visit for every foreign tourist in South Africa, offering a delectable feast of 12 authentic African dishes. The beauty lies in the fact that you don't have to choose; everything is brought to your table. Drawing from my hotel industry experience, the service surpassed expectations—treating us like royalty with impeccable attention. Despite the spice level (it wasn’t really hot at all), they took care to cater to my wife's non-spicy preferences. Although we missed the early drumming, it's highly recommended for a fun experience. African entertainment throughout the meal ensures memorable moments—don't forget your camera. Opt for face painting if you want to leave looking African! Exceptional value is evident, attracting both locals and celebratory gatherings. The perfectly portioned food allows for reorders; we noticed a neighboring table returning to the starters, featuring delicious snoek pate, roosterkoek (roasted bread), and a delicate seared ostrich salad. While we left early, there might even be dancing towards the evening's end. Remarkably, they generously share recipes online. A night at Gold is truly unforgettable
Incredible experience, the food was amazing and the people were so full of joy. Loved getting to experience the African table Safari! I went solo and had so many of the staff welcome me & talk to me. Truly a unique experience, don’t leave Cape Town without it! (They also made it gluten and dairy free for me)
