Review Salsa Mexican Grill Parkhurst - Johannesburg

Marlize De Bruin
Trying to satisfy our hankering for cheese-heavy carbs, we decided to do Salsa for date night. Sadly we, unknowingly, joined on quiz-night so the entire place was LOUD. Drink were really good and tasty. Starters (jalapeno poppers) were hot as all hell but delicious. Mains (Chicken Enchiladas & Pulled Pork Nachos) took ridiculously long to appear and was, quite frankly, not worth the wait... It was, as promised cheese-heavy, but sadly lacking in much flavour. We will be back thought. The vibe was fun, the portions were good and the food was just promising enough that led us to believe we made bad food choices as opposed to the kitchen forgetting where they store the salt. (I might go back for the churros alone)

Authentic Mexican food complimented with a great vibe just off 4th Street, service with a smile and food prepared to perfection. Definitely a joint to visit
Michael Cost
Incredible food, incredible location and great service. You can't go wrong with the food. What's great is how all the Salsa restaurants are exactly the same so you are guaranteed to get the same quality food. Parking may be a hassle as parkhurts gets very busy but there is a small Parkade behind the restaurant.
Palesa “Terry” Khoza
Lovely vibe, yummy gin cocktail. I had never tried mexican food before and I enjoyed it.

Awesome place to celebrate a birthday! Great vibe, good food and well heated in the cold winter nights. Well done to these guys for making us feel like amigos!

Good food, the Calamari heads were delicious. Mex soft taco looked a little dissapointing, but tasted really good.
Jodi Lisa Maree-Haupt
Great food options. Awesome vibe. Their in-house craft tequillas are good.
Sean De Metz
Always a winning choice. Great food and great atmosphere. Best place to host a birthday party.
Fairuze Khan
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere
Malcolm Davies
Lovely establishment, great service and superb Mexican food. Lovely for Sundowners...
Jan Weeratunga
Dropped in for a mojito jug. Great atmosphere and very attentive waiters
Anton Burger
Good food, although my own portion was a bit small (the tacos). Other people chose different meals and the portions were bigger. Vibey atmosphere, craft beers (if you're into that. I'm not) and friendly staff. Be prepared though for the noise that comes whenever a table declares that there is a birthday happening. But it's good fun. We also had a birthday person at our table and it earned him some sort of spicy tequila. Overall a nice place worth checking out.

Fantastic food and vibe! Great for business dinners as well as birthdays. Just up the road from some well known bars that is always busy if you're still in the mood for some drinks if you haven't already had a selection from the large variety of Tequila offers at the Salsa Mexican Grill.

Festive jolly spot with good food. Not totally authentic Mexican but a fun place for a birthday or meet up with friends. The service wasn't top notch and food needed to be sent back but they remedied the situation with an apology and smile. Delighted they only serve grass fed beef and free range chicken which is a plus.

Lovely place to grab lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The whole area is packed with people at all the coffee shops and makes a great atmosphere. The food is pretty good and service is all right. It does get hot outside and they could use a misting system.
Nkateko Mathebula
This is a great place. It's well ventilated and the food was really tasteful. We are definitely coming back. Seating is all placed. Service was good. The food comes out quick which was nice cos we were hungry 😂😂😂 the drinks menu is diverse and cocktail not was interesting 😊 is proper Mexican food and I recommend everything on the menu. There is also an option to man your own meal. Lots of fun, good music and the vibe was delightful.

One of my favorite restaurants at the moment! It always has a great vibe going, especially with the world cup happening. Alot of interesting craft tequilas, the traditional Mexican food that is a decent portion or a fair price. A great place to celebrate a birthday (has been my go to place for a number of years now).

Very disappointed. Ordered the new loco nacho tacos. Food took almost an hour to arrive. An order was missing. Chicken was dry and the meal was tasteless. The managers were not interested. There were only 3 tables. Compared to Salsa in Fourways (which is phenomenal), Parkhurst should try maintain the standard offered in Fourways.

Went here for dinner last Friday night. Called on the Thursday before to book a table inside. When we got to the restaurant our table had been given to someone else. We had to wait outside for 5-10min for a table (not the end of the world) but were then seated in the outside area. Not a great start.

Food was good. Service a little erratic (waiter disappeared for ages...I think he was keeping warm inside) and then kept visiting us every couple minutes as we were preparing to leave. He was friendly though.

It was my first time but it’s a Great vibe , night life. The waiter is so friendly and totally reasonable. Definitely going back. I wish they could have money bathrooms cause I stood about 20 min just waiting to use one
Simone Grobler
Food was good but not crazy flavourful. The dessert was great! Service was standard. Arrived to whom I assume to be managers enjoying a beverage and rudely handing over booking list to waiters who weren't immediately aware that we had a booking. Music inside was very very loud. Budget experience for budget mexican food. Not for the older more refined crowd.
Very cool decor but some of the poorest food I’ve eaten in a long time. Only went because of 4.2 Zomato rating; really not deserved. Restaurant was not busy but waiters seemed to find it too much effort to attend to patrons
Ferdie Bester
My mini steak tacho’s was chewy and tough. The speaker outside was distorting (broken) ruining the atmosphere.

Calamari poppers was tasty, Margarita great and waiter tried his best to accommodate us.
Mel Dep
Best nachos in town (my taste) , always good service and nice atmosphere . Always satisfied with it , never disappointed . Highly recommended!

I've been dying to go to this restuarant since its extremely hyped up and always busy... however it didnt meet my expectations after dwindling on what to order we settled on the Nachos which were rather tasty.. the downfall came with my order of the prawn tacos as pictured.. to my knowledge it was meant to be a tacoshell yet u was served a taco cracker? Drenched in oil and unappetizing.
Dilaksha
The worst Salsa I’ve been to out of all. The nacho portion we ordered was half the normal size. It was soggy and the cheese was half melted. The salad I ordered was missing a few ingredients and when I queried it, the kitchen said they were out of stock.

The waiter was kind enough to remove the salad from our bill after I returned it and compensated us with two free tequilas because our Nachos were missing a few nachos.
Lashley Beckett
The food was fantastic, service could be more effective. Drinks were great just lacking garnishes.

Only downfall of the place was a waiter demanding a tip even though the tip was in her hand.
Vinolin Naidoo
As always, the atmosphere is really vibey and relaxed. Although it was a big group of us, it took a while to get our food and drinks! Though I must command the waiter for remembering who ordered what. Food Is good and fresh - hmmm nothing special
Trevor
Lunch on a blisteringly hot Highveld afternoon
Ordered virgin mojitos and daiquiris but were served cocktails with alcohol
Not one to shy away for alcohol but I was working after lunch
Errant cocktails removed and replaced with virgin cocktails
Had spicy nachos which were probably best I’ve ever had and there were plenty of nachos- massive serving
Quesadilla El Chapo Tortilla base Mexican mince and beans
Another healthy serving
We arrived here after abruptly leaving another restaurant in the area due to bad service. It was such a contrast arriving at Salsa.
We ordered a bottle of Warwick First Lady rosé and enjoyed our long lunch. For starters we shared the chili poppers, these had a light crunchy batter with a gooey melted inside. For mains I decided to try something off the menu rather than making my own meal as per usual. I ordered the chopped Mexican salad and was surprised at how enjoyable it was (highly highly recommend). My friend made her own vegetarian lettuce cup taco meal, which was equally enjoyable as we ate off each others plates the entire meal.
This Salsa is lovely at lunchtime with a calm feel about it and I can imagine it being very busy at night with such a large inside seating area. The staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive!
Lukas
I love this place! Go with friends and you can have a ridiculous amount of fun at Salsa. Nachos, burritos, and poppers are all great! Ordering multiple rounds of tequila with friends is a must. Overall great experience, good service, and decent prices. Highly recommended.
Danieljake
I came here to watch the football on World Cup on evening and ordered 3 chilli poppers.

The chilli poppers were fantastic, perfectly piquant and spicy – just the way I like them!

The atmosphere is friendly and festive.

I'll definitely come back to try out one of their main meals.
The SA Food Guru
Informal and fun Mexican joint with a large menu and extensive selection of tequila and cocktails. Usually lively and busy over weekends - lunchtime during the week is nice and quiet. The staff are helpful and friendly. Prices are decent too.

Amazing experience on sunday night 24.06 from the welcoming to the service we received from our waiter Maurice. Kept checking up on us, Big thank you to Maurice and Linda. We will definitely be comin back.

How can you not be happy when eating Mexican food?! Yes bring your sombreros and your best Spanish and enjoy your tacos. The fish tacos and the livers are my favourites.
Wian Jansen Van Rensburg
The best service that we had in a long time. Brilliant nachos and a big variety of drinks. Will definitely be recommending Salsa Parkhurst if you are looking for a goof time.
Aidan
Food was good. Service was pleasant. I thought this was one of the more enjoyable mexican restaurants. I would give Salsa a solid 3.5 stars but the app won't let me. Drinks are uninspiring if you aren't amazed by novelty tequilas.
Yonette De Ru
My rating that I’m giving today is low due to the fact that I have high expectations of Salsa Mexican Grill. This is one of my favorite franchises and I love the culture that comes with it.

So my experience I had in this week was the deciding factor that Parkhurt Salsa Mexican Grill will not see me soon again.

First off, it’s Winter and we were sitting outside and was told that the gas was finish for the heater, so we sat in the cold, secondly you had no stock of some craft beers as well as the beet root chips. Thirdly I ordered a quesadilla which was marked on the paper and then I received a Burrito, which was obviously send back.

Then they waiter came back with the new quesadilla which they literally took the contents of the burrito and just made it in a quesadilla form.

Now more than an hours has past, they got my order wrong twice and the third time around I said if they want to correct my order, they can just bring it as a takeaway and the bill.

Finally the waiter brought my quesadilla that I ordered an hour and a half ago on a plate instead of the take away, wasting my time again!

And to end this off, the waiter even charged me for the burrito on my bill and I had to argue again that this is not what I ordered.

Goodness but I love this place, totally satisfied my Mexican craving this past weekend. Excellent margarita’s, v cheesy nachos, and clever to allow customers to compile their own orders. Fezzy vibe on 4th too. It’s no Perron in terms of Mexican cuisine, but if you’re looking for a good time and pretty good Mexican, this is the place.
Sean William
I’m a big Mexican food fan... So when I went to Salsa, then gates of Mexico opened up for me.

The menu is really smart. You can create your own meal exactly the way you want it. You tick off the food/dish that you want on your plate, and “BOOM” you get served exactly what you wanted without any confusion or mistakes made by a waiter.

If I have to be a bit judgmental about one thing... I’d say that the drinks are kinda overpriced, it’s worth it, but one can easily mix the same drinks for half the price at home.
Lucian
Being used to the vibe at Salsa Centurion, I found Parkhurst being very “quiet”. I think our table made the most noise when we arrived. Service was ok and our shooters were good! Invite us for a vibey experience! 😁
Cassandra Mahlangu
I can't deal with the nachos with Mayo. whose recipe is that from. absolutely disgusting. I will be going to La Santa for mexican food from now on.
Safee-Naaz Siddiqi
Salsa was surprisingly quiet - not cozy; more like deserted - when I went there for Sunday lunch. The decor is cute, without being over the top or tasteless. I suspect that, with more people, the vibe will be cool, casual and Parkhurst. Still - nothing to write home about. Dock points for the really cheesy Latin-Pop going on in the background. Puerto Rico and Mexico are not the same.

The menu is pretty solid. A little something for everyone and basic Mexican foods with a bunch of different variations. Unfortunately, the food itself is barely satisfying. Having had the platter, I sampled the meatballs, beef burrito, chicken quesadilla and jalapeño poppers. Although each dish had its pros and cons, the thing that stuck out for me was how little flavor the food had in comparison to authentic Mexican food.

Service though was fantastic. Kudos to the team who work at Salsa because they were pleasant, helpful and above and beyond lovely. 2 stars are literally for the service.

Better quality ingredients and a dedication to authenticity would really improve the spot but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I have been here a few times, but never bothered to write a review; till I really appreciated the crafted tequila's at this place. Along with the garnishes that come with the gin.
Try the apple and cranberry crafted tequila it's a true delight.
I'm a sucker for the quesadillas.
But the prawn tostada is a lovely treat wish there was more prawn infused in some way.
Just never seems that there is the margarita cheesecake that they advertise...
Also I rate more options for dessert are a need churros can only go so far...
Inge Nefdt
Highly recommend for a fun night out or a casual dinner is fine but I don’t think I’ve ever left here with a frown. Tequilas I’m all flavors... beware the bite of the jalapeño tequila 🙈 but have a frozen margarita on standby and you’re sorted.
Karen Heese
Really mediocre experience. Firstly, the outside area was dominated by smokers, with no separate ventilation to escape to. Secondly, I looked for manager for duration of our visit, but there was none to find. Thirdly, we had a poorly mixed, very artificial virgin mojito. Lastly, our guacamole was off, in fact didn’t look much like avo at all, and a friendly complaint to our affable waiter was met with a shrug. No follow up, apology. Don’t go for a meal. Feels like a drinking hole.
Candice Fonelli
mmmm, I don't want to sound like donald trump here, but i just can't get excited about Mexican food. Their cocktails are great though but the food doesn't make my toes curl. sorry.

I wanted to love it, I really did. The restaurant is nicely laid out in a prime location on Parkhurst’s popular strip. We ordered a margarita jug flavored with passion fruit and granadilla to start which was delicious. The menu concept follows Rocomama’s in that you complete your order yourself with some create your own options and everything reads delicious. Unfortunately this is where the magic ended. Maybe my expectations were too high but with the amount of great Mexican restaurants we have in Jozi- I do expect a certain standard if you intend to compete. (Especially with the amount of amazing other restaurants all over the Parkhurst strip). I ordered the signature spicy nachos which arrived as a mountain of chips, cheese that didn’t cover them all, one tablespoon of guacamole that had some tomato mixed into it and a hot sauce that definitely came from a bottle. No salsa, no jalapeños and I had to pay extra for sour cream. The guacamole was enough for maybe a quarter of the chips after which you were eating dry chips with a little bit of melted cheese and sour cream. At R101 after you add the charge for sour cream, I definitely expected more. My husbands burrito was also decidedly average as was the service which seems to be the norm in franchise chains these days. Really hoping we caught them on a bad day, but should I return, I will give the signature nachos and burritos a miss.

Was a bit of a let down in terms of food and drink. When you go do a Mexican restaurant you expect food bursting with flavour.....this food was not. The tacos were very bland and no punch of spice at all. The drink I had was just sugar and orange, nothing more. The saving grace was the prawn tostada and the servers were friendly enough.
Tummy
First time here, loved your food. I shall be back. Saw my other dishes which look and smelled amazing. Great spot for a group of 3 or more. They even have great cocktails if you into Gin.
Vanessa Cawood
Great meal! Nachos and tacos were absolutely delicious. Enjoyed the ambiance at the restaurant, we sat outside which is perfect on a warm summers evening!
Mandy
Incredible Service!!!!
Great food and great willingness to accommodate vegan and gluten-free patrons.
I highly recommend Salsa Mexican Grill
Millien Milla Hendricks
It's always a vibe! Even the Four ways one. My absolute favorite on the menu - Beef enchiladas with no rice (I have a thing against carbs on carbs). This dish is also not too spicy so perfect for my sensitive at times tummy. Their in house flavored tequilas and craft beers as well as the raspberry margaritas are the bomb! Also, very affordable.
Lexi Ledger
Unbelievably poor service. Still sitting waiting for our nachos order after 40 plus minutes...they forgot our slip despite us being the only customers in the restaurant!!!! Staff too busy horsing around behind the counter to even meet our eyes when we are trying to get their attention.

Popular for birthday celebrations with lively birthday songs I came here for birthday party. Was really packed when I came so pre book .I had spicy nachos with jalapeno.Nachos was a generous portion I would prefer it as starter meal and wasnt really spicy but had different cheeses.Jalapeno had a bit of bite .Also had a tequila and margarita.

This past weekend was my first time trying the Parkhurts/town Salsa outlet. An all around good experience. The staff along with the managers were very attentive, yet gave us enough space to enjoy a very good meal. It was flavoursome and the portions dont fool you. Frida is encorporated into verything, the decor is spectaculer. Thank you for an amazing sit down. We'll be back soon

From all the times I've been to Salsa , today was my best experience by far. The manager was so friendly and provided my family and I with excellent service. Tried the Mexican pasta and it was delicious , it had hints of citrus and a tanginess to it. The spicy nachos are always a hit. A must try
Anuschka Wischnewski
I’ve tried nachos at almost every restaurant that makes them but can quite confidently say that salsa Parkhurst makes the best. On top of that, their Mexican salad is spectacular with every bite better than the last. It’s is very vibey, with great service. A great place to be on a Friday night with friends
Joash Narainsamy
We dined here as part of a birthday celebration. The set menu consisted of a multitude of starters, mains and dessert. When I say multitude, I mean MULTITUDE! The food was seemingly endless and all really delish! My favourite among the starters was the Mexican chopped salad - bright, fresh flavours that were well balanced and smacks of a cool, breezy summer afternoon.

By the time the main plates rolled out, I was way too stuffed to tuck in. But the one pork rib I I did tuck into was tender and smoky with a hint of sweetness.

The churros were rather disappointing though, doughy and insipid. They lacked the cinnamon kick one expects of a good churro. The saving grace was the gorgeous chocolate ice cream that accompanied them.

All in all, Salsa is an experience worth having. The vibe here is fun and energetic, staff and service great, and the food matches that appeal.
Gabriella Maxine Abrahams
Overall I enjoy the food and general atmosphere of this restaurant. The drinks are fantastic but the food left a lot to desire.

There are far better Mexican options in the area.
Sharyn Govender
would like to thank Salsa Parkhurst for being so accommodating and helping us last minute with my hubby birthday. We had a great night and really enjoyed it. Jani the manager and the staff were awesome and helpful. Hubby especially loved the tequilas
Janine Howard
Super food with great ingredients! I also must compliment the staff who were attentive and informative. The table next to us required an explanation of various dishes and the manager was patient and friendly throughout! I particularly like the fact that you can build your own meal as this allows for accommodation of all food preferences!
Hannetjie Kleynhans
Food was delicious and so was the drinks.
Service however - absolutely horrendous! Waiters are nowhere to be seen. Orders were wrong and waited more than 20 minutes just to ask for the bill... on an evening when it's not busy at all... not even 30 pax....
Don't waste your time going to this branch of Salsa. Just a frustrating waste of time.
Omnomnomm
Ingredients are fresh but that's where the good ends. Cocktails are definitely watered down - not worth it! Hot is not proper hot unless you add sauce and jalapenos in each bite. You pay for each ingredient in the build your own meal, and it is way too pricey for the mediocre taste and volume of what you get - cheap fast street food sold at restaurant prices. Everything needs to be upped! Rather try Perron or even Mochachos or Mexican Fresh for something more resembling Mexican. #neveragain
Kevin Brooks
we really like the laid back style of this restaurant. the build your own taco tortilla etc and Mark it on the menu is great fun. thanks for the tequilas and the nostalgic sol. I had a beef taco and my wife bad quesadillas. all really tasty. you have to be strong to resist dessert
Saul Ben Smith
Ya man who doesn't love nachos?

These are without a doubt the cheesiest nachos around... soo good. Served with speed, with grace and with pleasure. Great wait staff.
We also had ribs. They were fine. Like whatever. Pretty sure they were boiled. They should take these off the menu because they are pretty average and its not what they do.

We had a big bean salad thing that was flippen massive and full of goodness. Healthy meal to balance the cheese.

Go hungry. Leave happy.

There are so many good restaurants in jhb that i feel that a 4 is the standard.
Nadine Ach
I recently visited Salsa and was very impressed. The atmosphere was great, a bit noisy but enjoyable. The food was tasty and the staff were extremely courteous. The nachos and tacos were simply delicious, the best I have ever had.

The restaurants menu gives one the ability to build their own food making it more enjoyable. Definitely the best Mexican restaurant in Johannesburg.

Would highly recommend this !
Wikus Du Toit
Mix bag of good and very mediocre. Nachos was delicious but tacos were a massive disappointment. Fat pieces of oily hake with fried batter stuffed into a soggy taco with rice. Most dishes were high on flavor but low on visual appeal. Young noisy crowd that quickly get very drunk.
Joshika Pranjivan
I really Love the food. Haven't had issues with the service. Really enjoy the atmosphere. It's one of those places that I'll keep on going to.
Athena Pavlakis
The nachos at Salsa are amazing. Definitely worth coming back for. We sat overlooking the prep area and I can tell you ..... all of the meals looked great. Good thing there is a lot to choose from, cos I will coming back often.

Love the vibe, and the friendly welcoming service.

Tsume
Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in Joburg. Prices are affordable, and staff service is great. The portions of food are well sized. I will definitely go back here again. Just make a note to always make a reservation on Friday evenings as most of the tables are reserved for people coming out the office ready to take shots of tequila.
Micha Feher
Having such a blast !! Grear Vibe and food and service too boot.... food is reasonably priced and the location is prime but who really cares at the end of the day when you relaxing on a Friday evening sipping on a mimosa and feeling fabulous!!
Melissa
Incredible food, really tasty. Made my own hard shell taco, a bit messy but that is expected- the vanilla beetroot is surprisingly good. Ended the meal off with the churros and they were delicious. Would highly recommend this place
Jolene
I actually cannot believe that I haven't been here sooner! I've only heard amazing things, but just never got around to it.

A friend and I shared the señorita quesadilla and the spicy nachos, because we wanted to try both. The quesadilla was very good, but I wish it was just a bit spicier. The nachos were AMAZING! The best nachos I've ever had! I was so impressed with it, I would come back any time for it. The portions were also very generous.

We also ordered a sangria jug. I loved how it wasn't watered down at all and that you could actually taste more wine than juice.

Service was not the best though. They were quite busy, but we had to ask for the bill 3 times without any luck. I eventually had to go ask the manager who attended to it immediately.

Other than the poor service, this is definitely the BEST Mexican place in Joburg!
Monique Le Roux
Love this place! Yummy food, quenching drinks and awesome variety of tequila! Nachos are a winner - one of the best - and love the Jalapeno Poppers! Also have a good time when i'm here 🔥
Chris
Birthday dinner with friends. Cocktails were huge and really good. Food was also good, a tad better than Mexican fresh. We had the tacos and burrito, portions are generous. Would go back!
Raquel De Canha
Always a good time at Salsa Parkhurst. Awesome vibe some times I can be a bit loud and busy but all part of the experience. Definitely must try the mojito and the jalapeño poppers.
Santana De Melo
CHICKEN NACHOS! You have to try these, best I have ever tasted in a while. Generous portion and full of flavour!
Very vibey restaurant in a prime spot in Joburg. Have tried other items on the menu but nothing comes close to their nachos
Now if you follow me on zomato you will have seen my fight with mexican fresh and their not so fresh TEX MEX nonsense they try sell us. And after being told i could take my business elsewhere i realised i should, like remember that awesome place where you had the awesome beer battered fish tacos in fourways well lets do that again.

However i found out there was one in parkhurst and its closer to home so lets do that instead.

It was a quiet easter morning and i was in no mood for aunty dry chicken and family mashed potatoes. No, it was more of a mexican easter. i wanted tacos and burritos. i wanted avo and sour cream and everything delicious. And so after convinces my brother we;d be better off going our own way this easter. ( and by convince i mean all i had to say was TACOS? and he was like YASSSSS). So after church we gave mom a big hug and a good luck with the old people and boring food lol.

Off we headed to the street of wonderful things. Just driving down that street makes you understand how good the food is going to be. I'm pretty sure there's like a 4th AVE FOOD PATROL that kicks you out of the street if you sell shitty food #likeMEXICANfresh.

Anyway we arrive and its beautiful, the decor is simple yet very effective in setting the tone. The service was great. friendly staff and management would walk past now and again to make sure we were happy.

small things like this are what sets one place apart from the next. And i really appreciate it.

Now in terms of food, I have never had anything terrible from salsa and everytime i eat either at the place or takeaway or UberEATS i always receive a meal that is freshly prepared and awesomely served.

We had burritos and tacos and poppers and all were delicious, my brother who is a taco maniac had the started tacos and the main tacos and what i have come to find is that the started tacos are better. they say mini but the main tacos aren't much bigger and only come with 2. where as the mini starter tacos has all of the protein options besides fish, so its not only cheaper but the smart option if you want to try out all the different tacos.

And i guess that's the only thing i can complain about even though i really shouldn't, but now if i don't it just seems like im taco riding salsa mexican grill just to hate on mexican fresh and that;s not true. So anyway i do feel like for the price you should be getting more, my burrito was quite expensive and when it arrived it didn't look the part, Also i went through about a 6 to 7 bite area where there was no meat at all and that did get to me a bit. Let us not forget that mexican food is actually cheap street foods. so why do we pay so much for it. Well for One salsa mexican grill offers really fresh food, the beer battered fish is so amazing its like it was pulled from the sea and thrown onto a taco. and all ingredients are always really fresh and delicious so i assume they pay more for better quality ingredients which in turn forces us to pay a bit more. But you know what? i dont care its is so worth it and i will be back again again and AGAIN.

1 other thing. Your hot is not hot and i need more hot. So please work on that.

but overall this is an awesome place that serves awesome mexican food.
Junior
Value for your money. I suppose if you have a Mexican craving, this is the place you would go. Multiple food configurations that you can put together to suit your tastebuds and chilli tolerance

Lots of interesting cocktails that you could try out. We ordered a pineapple chilli margarita and it was lovely.
Priya
After hearing the hype of this place I thought it was worth the try. When we eventually decided to go we were quite disappointed with the flavour. They actually got our first order wrong. We ordered a chicken quesadilla but got some veg one instead and also order a chicken enchilada which is one of my fav Mexican foods and I was so disappointed with that as well. Seems like it was missing something. I won't go back here in a hurry.
Jill Nudelman
A 4.1 rating? I think it's the tequila speaking. For me, this was not Mexican at its finest.
The offerings were ice-cold, standing for quite a while before they were brought to our table. And the place was almost empty.
Tasteless tacos sloppily presented. The chicken was dry. The burrito was better but desperately needed some oomph. It was improved with a dousing of very hot pepper sauce, which wasn't offered but had to be requested.
Okay, so it was after 8 on a Sunday night and the staff couldn't wait to get out of there. They hung around the kitchen, talking loudly. At one point the manager and a waiter had a mock fight, the manager chasing the hapless waiter around the place. I mean! C'mon!
Our waiter was pleasant and helpful. The cheapest corkage ever at R45 for a thin and watery Tokara Shiraz Reserve Collection 2014. All in all, a disappointing evening.

1. Best nachos EVER... The "salsa&cheese-to-nacho ratio" is a product of perfected culinary engineering 😁 They serve, hands-down, the best nachos I have eaten from more than 7 other mexican restaurants I have been to in the JHB area.

2. MINDBLOWING tequila menu... you are spoilt for choice with this extensive menu. My favourites are the blood orange, jalapeño & watermelon and the Tipo-Tinto rum&raspberry margheritas. Although I wouldn't blame you for not knowing how to choose - perhaps sampling the entire margherita menu and getting an Uber home may be the better option in deducing your favourite 😜 Please do not go home without also sampling one of their craft tequilas (the gingerbread is amazing!).

3. Delicious fulfilling portions... the food is genuinely as good as the drinks, decor and atmosphere (they celebrate birthdays with so much energy you really want it to be yours!). I never manage to finish my meals here as the portions are generous - which at least enables me to enjoy my leftovers the next day at home 😁. Being vegetarian, the "create your own Mexican feast" menu has never let me down!

4. Amazing service from such a busy place - the waitrons are spot-on!

Definitely my favorite Mexican place in Jhb - margheritas, anyone? 🌵
Tristan
Went some months back with a large group. Service was shocking, with some people being served after others had finished eating. The margarita jugs were really good but the food was a huge disappointment. Pulled pork tacos and the beef burrito were bland and criminally under-seasoned. Front of house was absolutely chaotic and it probably spilled over into the kitchen. If this is the standard, I can't understand why the place is so busy. Maybe it was just a bad night, but I wouldn't ever bother going back.

The food, drinks and atmosphere here is top notch. I would highly recommend visiting Salsa. The prices are quite high especially for drinks, however the quality of the ingredients makes it worth while.

I went to Salsa for the first time and had a very good time. Food was good and staff was friendly. I had the hake taco with sweet potato slices. Great concept.
The food is quite good and the portions are big. Service is friendly and they have the best tequila selection in town. Quality-price Salsa is perfect option

Being big fans of Salsa at Pineslopes we decided to quickly pop in for an early lunch. I ordered a Bramble cocktail and a chicken burrito, while my Hubby had the fish tacos. My meal was a little bland though and the fish in the tacos quite oily. The service was friendly, but we didn't see our waitress that often. It was a pleasant outing, but I was a bit disappointed in the service and the quality of the meal though.

My girlfriend and I booked a table last night, upon our arrival, we were not greeted nor shown to our table. The service was appalling. As soon as we sat down we were not helped and therefore stood up and went somewhere else. We will never go back to Salsa Parkhurst as the service was disgusting!!!

After visiting Salsa Mexican Grill in Parkhurst, this is definitely one of my favourite Mexican restaurants in JHB. When it comes to a vibey atmosphere, any restaurant in Parkhurst needs no introduction...and Mexican Salsa is no different! For starters we tried the chicken tacos and chilli poppers, both were great but I still preferred the tacos ! I felt the poppers lacked a limitless something ! For mains we shared the spicy chicken nachos! This was amazing ! A healthy serving spiced perfectly to tantalize the tastebuds ! My only gripe would be that the amount guacamole served with the nachos was on the mingy side ! On the whole a lovely experience ! Service was average , having said that I'll definitely go back to try the menu options ! Definitely worth a visit & its probably best to book in advance !

Have always wanted to try Salsa but it's always been busy and booked out when I've arrived. Luckily a friend was having her birthday there so it was the perfect opportunity to try the amazing food I've heard about. I really liked their simple menu layout and the fact that I can pick and choose my own Mexican food. Making my own burrito was fun but there are also some pre-made options to choose from. I went with a chicken burrito, guacamole, onions, mozzarella, pickled coleslaw. The chicken was amazing! Tender and full of flavour. The burrito was really good and worth every cent I paid for it. Fresh ingredients and nothing oily or gross about the Mexican food experience. The only downside to the evening was that service was very slow. This might have been due to it being a busy Friday evening and that we were also at a large table.

Great friendly service! The food is tasty, fresh and delicious. Salsa has become my new favorite Mexican resturant in Johannesburg! I would highly recommend the samba quesadilla or the original burritos which was super tasty. A big thumbs up from me.

Great atmosphere, right in the heart of Parkhurst. You get to make your own Mexican feast, the way you like it. So I had quesadillas with chicken and veggies and salsa, and they were amazing. It is a Mexican restaurant, so of course you have to try the margaritas and tequilas, which they have a whole page dedicated for. Highly recommended for a chilled casual dining experience.

Salsa Mexican Grill is perfect for every occasion. Meeting up with friends? Salsa! Celebrating a birthday? Salsa! Family meeting to discuss your obvious addiction to Mexican-styled food and rum & raspberries? Salsa!
We arrived at the Salsa Mexican Grill in Parkhurst on a sweltering January afternoon and waited for a few minutes while the staff tried to comprehend/find our booking. There seemed to be some confusion as when I told the staff I had booked a table for six they either nodded and walked away from us or looked at me like I was not speaking English. Eventually we were taken to our table only to find that another family had started to use it; they were asked to move by the staff and while it was exceptionally awkward for everyone I comforted myself knowing that I did call to book the table way in advance.
Our waiter was friendly and took the initial orders quickly but disappeared for long periods of time which made ordering top-ups very slow. The food was great as per usual. We ordered the Mexican Meatballs to share (they were tasty and spicy but a tiny portion) and I ordered my usual Mexican Chopped Salad. We have never had a bad meal at Salsa Mexican Grill and hopefully we never will. I also noticed that the flavour of the Parkhurst Rum & Raspberry cocktail was distinctly different than the Bedfordview Rum & Raspberry's.
Overall we had a positive experience despite the initial confusion which will hopefully not happen again in the future.

What fun! Service is amazing, food is awesome can't decide which one is better. The vibe is so cool, mainly because of the people that work there. You get the feeling they enjoy being there. I think we landed there on birthday night, I'm pretty sure every table had a birthday, they sang the birthday song with enthusiasm every time - that takes skill. Well priced. Cocktails are delish and the food comes out so fast, despite the restaurant being full.

I love Mexican food and this place is my favourite. Their jalapeno poppers are tasty but a bit too spicy, you would have to have some sour cream or yoghurt with it. The burritos and enchiladas are delicious. This place has such an awesome vibe, love it during summer evenings.

I know it's TacoTuesday but I think Nachos are just as good. If I had to choose 7 meals to eat for the rest of my life, Nachos are definitely making the cut.
My opinion on this restaurant may be a bit biased because of the reason I went there. My friends hosted a surprise celebration for me so I obviously have to associate this place with warm fuzzy lovey feelings. Soooo if you're looking to have a cute, day out, with a group of friends, where you can all enjoy each other's presence, this should definitely make a feature in your options. It's not the biggest place but it's big enough to host groups. It's a warm friendly environment, and if you're a lover of Mexian food, there's no reason why you shouldn't go there.
Mexican food is always so bomb and the variation of incredible food that you can get from the menu is almost overwhelming. I think it's better to go with a group of people so you can order a variety of meals and eat off each other's plates (given you are all that close). I must mention that some of the dishes are really hot/spicy, so that may destroy some of your tongues. They also have a good cocktail menu, so for the drinkers, that's another plus.
I'm really glad I was able to be exposed to a new Mexican restaurant. It's refreshing. It's different. It's really enjoyable. Go with your group of friends or loved one, and bond over the great food and drinks. I promise it's a great Saturday fixture. Also great place to throw surprise parties ;). I think it's really important to celebrate your friends, and all their achievements so I'm forever grateful to mine for doing that for me. And particularly bringing me here :)

Had great fun, quite a different experience to the usual dining out evening.
This place is vibey, lots of action and great food. Good cocktails and a fun menu makes for a very enjoyable evening out with friends!

As a lover of Mexican food, this was the place to go. The nachos were incredible and the tacos were very good as well. The tequila menu is quite varied and delicious having sampled a good few varieties :). The vibe is excellent and definitely a great place for a celebration.

My new favourite Mexican restaurant in Joburg (or even the country)!
I'm no pro when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine- but if you're after classic Tex-Mex dishes like tacos, burritos and enchiladas which are made to perfection- this is your jam.
The food is absolutely gorgeous- subtly flavoured and overflowing with fresh, tasty ingredients.
My personal favourites are the spicy beef mince enchilada, the KILLER nachos and the "build your own" burritos.
You also can't go wrong with their cocktails and jugs- the mojito jug is especially good.
The service is super friendly and enthusiastic- truly fantastic manager- and be prepared for Sombreros and dancing if it's your birthday!
Can't wait to come back.

Went to Salsa and man it was good. The food was amazing, vibe was really good. The service was a little bit slow but it was packed.
All in all a great outing.
Ilan Ben-David
Service is generally fast and the staff are quite friendly and accommodating. The cocktails on the other hand are a bit of a let down, but the food itself is not! Although one ingredient was left off the dish, they happily fixed the issue within a minute. Very well priced and the portions are a nice size. Highly highly recommend the sweet potato crisps/wedges

Such bad service! I reserved a table 3 days in advance with the manager (Gareth) who seemed to know what he is doing, but on arrival at the restaurant my friends and I were placed at a smoking area. When I asked for us to move, the manager told us he is doing us a favour by even giving us a table. The manager was very rude and condescending. We left the restaurant and made a booking with Craft, a restaurant across from Salsa where the service was absolutely great!

Reluctantly joined friends for a lunch after two very average experiences at the Fourways and Bedford Salsa branches. I was told to order the nachos by a friend and so on my third visit to a Salsa I was pleastanly surprised. I ordered the mild nachos with chicken. The heaped portion didn't dissapoint, It was delicious, colourful, crunchy and the chicken juicy. Every mouthful was better than the last. The blood orange margarita that I had with it was refreshing and a must try! I tried the churros too, served with chocolate ice cream and dressed im a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Its defining worth a share. Finally a Mexican meal at Salsa I can say I thoroughly enjoyed.

If you are looking for a Mexican restaurant in South Africa and not just a South African Mexican restaurant this is the place for you.

Situated in the heart of the Park town Square this authentic little Mexican restaurant takes the cake, or rather the churros!

Being part of the first wave of original Mexican Joints we were surprised with the authentic and honest approach to one of the worlds most exciting and Palette-tantalizing National menus.

Despite having to compete with high caliber Mexican restaurants like Parron, the Salsa Mexican Grill holds its own and provides 'out of this world' flavor combinations with portions that warm my student heart.

Nachos are served with fresh sour cream, a very tasty guacamole and spicy mince On a stack of authentic round nacho chips.

Soft shelled, sweet pulled-pork tacos, are served on a plain wooden board as not to detract from the exquisite flavours. Black beans and fresh salsa create a unique array of flavours that the South African foodie has not experienced before.

I had a margarita, which is served in a sizeable mug and are tasty enough to turn your average Protestant into an alcoholic. My Amigo, the designated driver for the night, had a coffee as strong as Clint Eastwoods Jawline. There is a formidable selection of the tequila which includes handcrafted dessert tequilas, Golden Reposado tequila and silver blanco tequila as well as an impressive selection of premium smallbatch tequilas.
Even with our hardest attempts to be critical, our wonky table was the nights only annoyance.

To end, cool vibes and quality food.
Mui Bueno

4/5

Great Mexican food, probably the best I have had, so tasty, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The service was attentive and on point. The starter of the three different hard tortilla's is an absolute win and the chili poppers were delicious. Really enjoyed our night out and will definitely be back. Will done team!!

Excellent manager that is customer centric, delicious frozen margaritas, nice vibe and easy ordering process. Food came quickly. We had the platter that had a bit of everything. Worth a try.

Great ambiance and vibe, ok food. Food is tasty however it lacks on having a true Mexican flavor. Great for a vibey evening, with good margarita, but only ok Mexican food

The food is really delicious however I did feel that it was a tad bit over priced.
The staff are very friendly and the service is above expectation.
I enjoyed the jalapeño poppers and the spicy nachos.
PS: the spicy nachos are indeed very spicy 😂and you will need something to drink .
The tequila shooters are fun and different not to mention they taste really good - especially the gingerbread one !
The place is hip , fun and gives you that Mexican feel.
I felt that the restaurant could have proper ventilation/ cooling system as I really didn't appreciate the hot and smokey air upstairs where we were seated . Other than that I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Salsa!
I am very sad to say that my experience at Salsa was not anything special. Specifically the food. The tacos and burritos were bland and filled with copious amounts of cold, starchy rice. It was boring and felt cheap.

The venue itself is vibey and the staff is friendly but can do with a bit more menu familiarization.

There are better options available in the surrounding areas.

Been wanting to try out Salsa Mexican Grill for some time now, and so glad we eventually got round to doing it. It was my Brother In Laws birthday and managed to get a reservation (which are hard to come by). We ordered a few dishes to share on the table, The Nachos (Delicious, Big Portion, and Crunchy), Mexican Street Corn (Lovely char to the corn, and very fresh), Shrimp Basket (Not that impressed with it, just seemed like lettuce tossed with shrimp), Pork Ribs (Absolutely delicious), Chicken Burrito (Very big, full of filling and tasty), Some Churros (Which werent that great, they were raw on the inside and rather oily), and finally Strawberries and Dreams Taco (Chocolate ice-cream in a hard shell taco, who can resist)

A fantastic Mexican place with some of the best Mexican food in Jozie.

I have previously been to the Fourways branch of Salsa and quite enjoyed the food and atmosphere and the Parkhurst branch is very much the same. I sampled a few different dishes and my favourite was definitely the nachos with added pulled pork. The quesadilla was a bit bland and I found the fish tacos to be lacking in crispiness but overall the food was enjoyable and the service was great.

Make sure you book a table in advance. Preferably outside. The nachos are delicious! That's my favourite thing on the menu. The cocktails and flavoured tequila are great too.

This was the worst experience ever. We were a party of 21 and they charged us for 25 pax, the over the top R160/head included 2 measly "platters" they called starters and mains. The manager was unpleasant and unhelpful, they messed up drink orders... don't think any of the 21 guests will be returning anytime soon. Such a disappointment!!

Salsa is always busy, even on the days when you don't expect masses of people to be out and about. And there is a very good reason for that. There food is delicious, and the rum and raspberry is even better, specially when it comes in a jug (and you don't have to share). If you do plan on going with a big group of people make sure you book a table, and now that it's summer, get a table outside. The vibe, the music, the atmosphere... All perfect for almost any occasion.
