Review Scrumpy Jacks - Cathkin Park

Scrumpy Jack’s is such a lovely shop to visit or have a light meal. The coffee is amazing, wonderful atmosphere and great food. The setting is also lovely. There is an area where you can buy a number of delicious products. Cakes, honey products, home baked goods, honey etc. Like a stunning farm stall; lovely to browse through. They also serve the best honey cheesecake I have ever had. Deon and his wife are lovely hosts. On site you will also find: Majestic Intense Pressure Point and H & D Honey Products; where you can buy real bee products, raw honey, honey and Propolis

I have previously read the advert that they have a world renonwed cheese cake, so at long last I decided to try it out. I was not disappointed. We had carrot cake as well and that was also a winner. Even the side plate of chips must be the best chips you will have in the valley.

Absolutely wonderful place to spend a morning at with shop full of goodies, Natal country happiness and great food, especially honey cheesecake. Nestled in the south eastern Drakensburg, with mountain scenery deluxe, abundant bird life and plenty of happy people make this place very inviting and worthy of your spend. You are bound to rest here and spend plenty of time at this restaurant.

Go to Scrumpy Jacks and get "the best cheese cake in the valley"! The interior of the restaurant is nice and invites to a relaxed afternoon coffee. Service and staff are warm and friendly. The owners are lovely people. I ordered a cheese cake and a red cappuccino- both were delicious. A small gift shop with local products is part of the restaurant. The homemade honey is a must and highly recommended. Looking forward to come again.

Absolutely loved our time here at Scrumpy Jack, whilst visiting the Champagne valley area. The hosts are friendly and always up for a good chat, the staff are on point and always at your beg and call. We enjoyed their Steak, Egg and Chips – which was really done well and tasted awesome. They have a varied collection of curious from around the Drakensberg area and I loved how the small businesses support one another in this little neck of the woods. The old cow shed, has been converted to the modern looking farm style restaurant, and was designed by a notable architect from the area who has since passed on. Did not manage to see the Glass Hive, due to some moth issues that affected the enclosure – was definitely something I wanted to see. The Glass Hive opens around 10:00 in the morning, so if you are planning to pass by – don’t be too early. Now, to the most important part….the Honey Baked Cheesecake….Wow, wow, wow! This was tasty and delightful with a light hint of sweetness, baked just right with a luscious crumb….was so good, had to stop to buy a piece to take back home to Johannesburg with us…and yes, it survived the trip home. This is what they are famous for and what you must stop by to get…a slice will cost you about R45.00 (as at 7 August 2023)

Food is great and reasonable, but the bee tour was not a good experience. The tour guide spent most of his time talking about how the government used pesticides to cause covid symptoms, and other non-related conspiracy topics, as well as promoting bees wax/honey related products to cure symptoms. I had to change the subject myself to actually just try and learn more about the bees.

Best cheesecake I've tasted. Worth a visit. I also found their spinach quiche fabulous. Highly recommended.

A really fantastic little coffee shop. The cheesecake is fantastically creamy and the carrot cake is quite nice as well. The cafe has moved and the new venue is better designed than the old one. The service is extremely friendly and the shop has a nice assortment of wares. Give it a go!

Delicious cheese cake and carrot cake! They even had alternative milk for our cappuccinos. We also stocked up on honey products too. I'm so glad we stopped here.

Great friendly service. Good cheap small meals and the world famous Honey cheesecake is a must. Visited the new location for Scrumpy Jack's, just up the road from where they previously were and was delighted to see an all new and improved location. We will visit this place every time we are in the area.

We’ve been going to Scrumpy Jack’s since 2008. My daughter rode a horse for the first time at the old venue. The new location is exquisite. There’s a lovely farmhouse feel with some elegant cosy elements. I love the attention to detail - even the sugar bowl, salt and pepper holders on the tables have “Scrumpy ‘Licious” on them. After an absence of 4 years (COVID and emigration in-between), I finally had another slice of the most delicious cheesecake in the world. It didn’t disappoint! Their home made propolis and honey products are excellent for all sorts of ailments. If you’re ever in Cathkin Park, you have to visit Scrumpy Jack’s!!
