Review La Playa Restaurant - Cape Town Central

Damien Naidu
My friends and I were at the V&A waterfront looking for a spot to chill. Decided to go to La Parada, we loved the venue, service, and atmosphere. The food was excellent. It was my first time trying pork belly šŸ˜‹ the cheesecake was a baked cheesecake, but it was amazing, I'm just not sure if that portion is worth R150. Will definitely be back. I definitely recommend it.

Went there on a very busy night, the service was good. The bao buns with beef fillet were delicious, would definitely go back for them. Didnā€™t really enjoy the grilled boerewors (bit overcooked) and truffle potato skins were too oily for me. Nice view at night and l liked the candle lighting on each table.

An unexpected place on our first day in town, super great choice of cocktails and good tapas served in generous portions. Our server Sunny (Sanele) was the best, friendly and efficient. You can't go wrong entering there!

I had a very wonderful experience here! The service was absolutely delightful. Definitely a good place to come and unwind after a long week. Thank you to Portia and the rest of the team for constantly checking in on me! The food 10/10 as well. The views are another plus. Definitely will be returning.

We experienced La Parada in two different ways on the same day. One was at a luncheon for women where we were served some truly delicious meals ranging from steak to giant salads and chicken sandwiches. The other way was during the evening where it turned into a pseudo nightclub environment for networking. The light refreshments were divine and somewhat eclectic in nature. Once it gets packed, thereā€™s very little room for maneuvering but it was exciting and fun nonetheless.

La Parada was excellent. We had several different cocktails and small plates. Edith, our waitress, was absolutely lovely and very attentive. She helped make our dinner experience great.

Beautiful location inside & outside. We felt very comfortable. The service of Allanah was really very nice! There is a large selection of wine. The burgers were delicious and tasty. From the restaurant you have a great view of the Tafelberg. We would love to come back.
Eulita Moultrie
My husband and I enjoyed the most delicious meals. I had the pulled beef pasta, and he had a steak salad. The food was absolutely amazing, but the service, unfortunately, was very slow and lackluster.
Jacqueline
What a lovely all-round experience! The service was great, the food was so good that I probably ordered way too much for a solo diner. Blame it on the inviting lively atmosphere as well. Perfect for groups, couples and those who savour the experience of solo dining! It was so good, I was there three times during my short stay in Cape Town. Be back soon, La Parada! šŸ¤Ž

This a a favourite at the V&A Waterfront. Always great food, Excellent service with a vibrant, hip and classy vibe. I keep coming back - love it!

There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in the waterfront, but if you are looking for a trendy restaurant where you can relax then give La Parada a try. This is a perfect spot to grab some drinks as they have a beautiful bar and some awesome cocktails to choose from. The view from the restaurant towards Table Mountain also makes for great photo opportunities. We visited for dinner and had starters, mains and dessert. Although the food was very tasty, I think at La Parada it's actually better just to sit-back and grab some starters/tapas as they have a nice atmosphere and thereafter you can proceed to the next restaurant for your mains. During our dinner there unfortunately was a mishap with our order, but the manager really handled it well. Overall a very nice restaurant and I have already been back there to have some drinks.

Excellent tapas, drinks and steaks. We enjoyed amazing stay here with a good vibe and breathtaking view of Table Mountain. Sany took a really good care of us. Thank you for everything. This have been our third time here and weā€™ll come back for sure.

Highly recommend it One of tge unique and special Restaurant.. The food was delicious The stuff are really friendly, specifically Mr. Danil 5 star waiter.. Nice atmosphere
Shaolin Cafe
I went to Bree street La Parada when it opened. The food was average .Maybe my expectations are too high this time. We waited 50 minutes for our order. Nearly 1 hour? 3 of us ordered the mushroom pappadelle which was a good portion but it was lacking in mushrooms and taste sadly. This was the only vegetarian option for mains. The burger was excellent, so I was told. The steak was a good portion too. The venue is well set up and in an excellent location. What can we say it's the Waterfront. We were there for father's Day the music was very loud for a dining experience. Excellent for clubbing and drinking social. Not sure what the intended idea is. Dining or clubbing. A plus for social hangouts and bar snacks. Finding that sweet spot can be complex in this case. Maybe next time.

The place is wonderful and quiet. The food is delicious and the service they have is excellent. They have shisha. I recommend it

So if I had a choice I would never ever go to La Playa.<br/><br/>They are really relying on their prime location because in my opinion that is the only thing going for them.<br/><br/>Had a business breakfast meeting here and all I can say is service is shoddy, coffee is lukewarm mud, breakfast quality was bleh...good grief I could make better at home. The quality of their ingredients is really poor...I'm really questioning if my beef sausage was actually beef or rather a poor soya substitute.<br/><br/>Oh yes....as a sideline the venue is really looking tired and grubby.<br/><br/>Why does the V&A allow this....I don't know?

I've always wanted to try La Playa and was quite excited to go there with my family. Location-wise: perfect. Beautiful views, great seating, but I'm afraid that's where this fairytale ends. The service was quite frankly appalling. The waitress got numerous of our requests wrong. We waited ages for our drinks to arrive and my mojito was essentially mint water. No sweetener was provided for the coffees. Another long wait before our food arrived - cold. I had the Burger with haloumi and mushroom. Nothing spectacular - actually, it was exceptionally bland. <br/><br/>My mother's Greek salad with chicken strips was essentially a big bowl of greens (which I recall does not a Greek salad make) with a handful of lukewarm chicken strips. Thankfully, we did not end up paying for that, at the very least. <br/><br/>The manager did not even bother to come around after we requested to see her. Very disappointed - for a restaurant located in such a prime location, the service and food is any but. Not recommended.

The food portions are big but EXTREMELY overpriced. The food, especially the pasta, is very bland and nothing exciting. The overall atmosphere is stale and the shop is not very well maintained. Service is slow. Not the place to go of you're looking for well-rounded meal.
Zaahidah Adams
Service went down south!<br/>Been going here for as long as I can remember and each time I go back it gets worse. <br/>The waitresses are extremely laid back as if they don't need the job. <br/>The food can be nice depending on the mood of the chef I suppose.on<br/>On odd occasions i'lI go for breakfast and all is perfect and when I go again for pasta is tastes like a prison meal gone wrong.
Brendan Louw
Had the worst experience at La Playa V&A this morning. Service was delayed, orders were not taken correctly & food was utterly disappointing.<br/>- burnt mushrooms <br/>- soft to raw eggs<br/>- oily hashbrown<br/>- overdone steak (basically dead)<br/> <br/>For a restaurant at the V&A this experience was horrible and way under standard. I'll ever visit them ever again.<br/>
Shnapple
On entering the premises we were advised that they have no closing time. Yet at 00:00 they proceeded to switch off the lights with patrons still inside without any notification. Poor service in the end and sad that it could've been avoided.
Steve De Villiers
service is pathetic, food not that great, also over priced...would not recommend this place at all.<br/><br/>La Playa is shit period!!!!!!!!!<br/><br/>sitting in an empty restaurant waiting for your food for about 55mins not worth while.
Leila Rossouw
Everyone that knows me, knows I always order burgers and fries at any place. I wasn't really impressed. The burger looked great but it was okay, the prices aren't exactly cheap and the service wasnt exactly quick. It's always busy and it's hard getting a table for a big group.
Unshaaff Salie Hendricks
Been to La Playa a handful of times, why I go back I don't know, thinking it might have improved but so such luck. The service is horrible which is an understatement. As you enter the restaurant, nobody approaches you or offer you help, once seated u wait forever to get a waiter and then u wait another half hour if not more for your food which is CRAZY over priced. Not even the hotels as are expensive as this place. I'm officially anti La Playa. Will never recommend it to anyone to this place.
Adrian Kaplan
What a shame! La Playa honestly has the best location but sadly the food and service do not match. Apart from being RIDICULOUSLY overpriced (even by Waterfront standards) the food is just so average and service totally lacklustre. We ordered chick schnitzel - 2 adult portions and a kiddies portion. Firstly the restaurant was very quiet but somehow it still took forever for the food to arrive. The chicken was oily, the chips ice cold and the mustard sauce was congealed. This place had its heyday - i remember frequenting it as a student for late night coffees and hot chocolate after dinner or a movie. Sadly it is not the same. Waste of my time and R320 (yes, even with the use of the entertainer app!!)
Wes
Decent food (even if a bit pricey), but unfortunately the service is lacking. Food brought in 5 minute Intervals, we had to do our own payments on the EFT machine. It could just be better, but at least the food quality is good.
Coert
Steer clear, to say the food wasn't great is an understatement. Celebrated a corporate Women's Day lunch with our team given its halaal status we decided to book the ladies lunch. Very disappointing, food took forever, service was poor just a bad overall experience.
Claire Stacey Hobson
A '0' rating would be more accurate. HUGELY disappointing. The manager is way out of her depth, staff are uninterested and lack experience, and the food is overpriced and not nearly up to standard. <br/>Definitely not V&A Waterfront quality. What a total waste of a beautiful location!!
Lame [Lah-meeh]
Not the best picture but just had to share. Food was okay, nothing to brag about, although the cocktail was good. One complaint is that the service is terrible! Possibly one of the worst Iv experienced.. The waiters are slow to attend to you, considering the place was not that busy, literally had to keep calling them because they barely come check on you. Would only go back because of the view, really nice for sundowners. Willing to give it another try..
Chantelle Lamusse
Had a quick expresso and vanilla tea. Service is not on par very average at best. This place is situated in a cool spot and think they draw lots of customers but they need to work on better service for return customers. As now I'm not keen to try their food now ;(
Kyle Allen
If it was possible to rate a 0 I would gladly do it. I've been at the restaurant a few times now. The service is terrible! The waitresses are so moody and they have such an attitude! A few days ago i quickly went there for lunch as most of the other restaurants were very busy, The service was terrible so I decided not to tip the waitress at all. I was a waiter for 7 years and there's been a lot of times where a customer did not tip for no specific reason but the next time I see the customer I still treat him with respect. I went for a smoke and a coffee tonight at the restaurant and was helped by the same waitress and she gave me such a shit attitude. I will never recommend the restaurant at all!
Samukeliso Eneya
I am really disappointed in this place .<br/>Service is excellent, the place is chilled and on point .the food was amazing until I found long long long hair in my food .disgusting.<br/>What makes it worse is that the manager didn't even bother to come and apologise only the waitron did.<br/><br/>Sadly a nice place
Mymoena Ismail
Very bad experience. Not only was the meal overpriced. I could have whipped up the same meal at home. Result would have been more tasty and appealing to eat.<br/><br/>What a big disappointment. A known restaurant to sell frozen fish as a main course. <br/><br/>As for the staff. Way to young and inexperience.šŸ‘Ž
Ulisha Moodley
La Playa is so average for what you are getting. They are also pretty overpriced. The service is also really slow. On my last visit my friend and I shared a platter with chicken strips, kebabs, calamari and chips. The chips were numb and the crispy foods were oily. Will not be retuning.
Tiyaarah Cloete
So overpriced, the food does not live up the costs at all. I'm always taken aback by this place it's always busy and their hookah is almost as much as buying your own pipe.
Iman Bawa
If I could rate lower I would. I have received bad service and bad food from this establishment. I was served cold eggs and when I complained I was told that it was cold because smoked salmon was served underneath the eggs. Needless to say I will not be returning
Anisha Pillay
I feel like the only reason this place often seems busy is because it's one of the few halal restaurants in the waterfront, which is unfortunate. <br/><br/>The service is its biggest let down. Staff are not at all welcoming or attentive. It's as if they've had no training or experience which is further compounded by their bad attitudes.<br/><br/>The food is mediocre and overpriced and leaves you feeling unsatisfied and disappointed. Won't be back in future.
Waseem Dawood
over priced, the portions are really big which is great and all but its pointless when it is bad and you cant eat 20% of the meal, haven't been back since. with regards to the shishas its just way too expensive to charge someone that for one shisha.
Razena Schroeder
When this place first opened up at the Waterfront many years ago, it was raved about and well liked... But that was a long long time ago. <br/><br/>I've been here twice in the past few years and wouldn't choose it myself as I've always been disappointed with the service and the food. However, my nephew was spending the day with me and was excited to go there for breakfast. <br/><br/>The location on the first floor overlooks the parking area but also has an amazing view of the ocean. We elected to sit outside because it was really dark and oppressive inside even though the place as big windows. The interior tables and chairs look nice enough but the exterior looks old and tatty. Definitely not what one expects at a venue in an upmarket location like the Waterfront. <br/><br/>I had my nephew and my cousin's son and daughter with me and we all decided on the La Playa full breakfast. It comes with juice and coffee and the server indicated what juices were available so we made our selections.<br/><br/>What she failed to mention when taking the order was that the breakfast comes with a tiny glass of orange juice and filter coffee. When the order arrived we were served and later charged for separate full sized mango juices and cafe lattes. <br/><br/>The actual breakfast is 2 slices of toast, 2 eggs, 2 beef sausages, 2 slices tomato, fried mushrooms, fried steak or chicken breast. My scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked and delicious, as were the sausages. The steak was a bit chewy but edible. The toast was colder than I like but still edible. One of the kids found that you could melt the butter on it if exposed to the sun for a few minutes. <br/><br/>The food has improved but the service still needs an energy boost. I don't believe it's ok to take an order without mentioning what is available as part of the offer as in the case of the juice and coffee. <br/><br/>The cafe has no ambience or feeling of being welcoming and a place to have a relaxing meal. The serving staff appear generally unsmiling and none of the managers even bothered to check on any of the tables. <br/><br/>Would I return for another meal unless invited there by friends or family? Probably not. <br/><br/>
Precious Mali
Bad Service.<br/><br/>Staff really should be more friendly and care about their customers. They really do need good and proper customer service training. It will benefit them a lot. Otherwise, the food is great. But I'm never coming here again.
Raeesa Naik
Definitely pretty location - you have a view of the ocean. Place is a little untidy and 'scruffy' for lack of a better word. The food is not just mediocre, but really not worth it's price tag. Please don't sell me a pita bread that tastes like a piece of hard coal; I will dislike you for it! Calamari was admittedly delicious and tender, so it just saved this rating from a failure. Cake was delicious but basically purchased from Limnos with an additional mark up - so it had me thinking that I would rather go to Limnos and pay less, in that case.<br/><br/>The service is really lacking. Waitresses are pleasant, but just don't care about their customers. I waited ages for a table, I waited ages for a menu, I waited ages for my food order that the waitress got wrong... Tsk, tsk.
Ben Kilian
Extremely slow service. Waited a VERY long time for both drinks and food to arrive. Salad leaves were not even washed and I found a HUGE worm "sailing" around in it! Waitress got a huge fright, then took my plate away. She came back and asked if there was anything else they could do for me ... "Geeee, I don't know" ... Worm was happy in the end, but I was not. Will definitely not visit again.
Phoebe Kondylis
I've been going here as long as I remember. The service is always great, the menu is big and offers a variety of food, and they have a great selection of desserts and ice cream. The Florentines and red velvet cupcakes are out of this world. The tramezzinis are amazing and the food is always good.
Adrian Ciesielski
We come here for a quick slice of cake usually, and there is nothing wrong with any of those slices. I have never had an issue with them, and lasts nights cream caramel was incredible.<br/><br/>However, the vegetable platter was the worst. The oil which was used to make the halloumi was definitely old. The batter was dark, and when squeezed it dropped oil. Not only that, the pita bread that accompanied it looked varnished with oil too. <br/><br/>The tzatziki was basically cucumber paste, simply disgusting. Have a look at the picture, and you will see all of the above - we left it and did not eat more<br/><br/>The only thing saving la playa is the cake
Sarita Kerber
La playa cafe, I would complain about service but there needs to be service to complain about. Got seated and all looked fantastic. Great view and easy going vibes. Ordered food with my two friends and I was then spiraling down hill. Virgin strawberry daiquiri had more colorant than any source of strawberry. I then ordered the bolognese and waited a good 45 minutes for my food to be brought to me. My friends had already finished eating when my food arrived and was disgusting. The pasta was raw and hard like it was waiting on the oven for a good 20 minutes before being served. The mince was tasty but yet again more oil and other ingredients than pasta. Leaving my lips stained a dirty orange colour. I am nothing but disappointed and I would not recommend this place to anybody that has some sort of expectation in the food you eat.
PG
This place has average service and terrible food considering their prices Ā :(<br/><br/>I ordered the chicken alfredo<br/>The meal was bland, cold and I came across quite a few pieces of burnt chicken and some evidence that the chicken had not been cleaned properly...<br/><br/>My Mom ordered a chicken schnitzelĀ <br/>The fillet had been over cooked and the side veggies were poorly seasoned and also cold<br/><br/>Won't be back simply because the food is not what they claim it to be
Shilan Govender
Really really disappointed with the food and service at this place. Went by for lunch (it does have a great view of the ocean) but the price:value ratio is completely off. My lamb souvlaki was overcooked and very unappealing. Will not visit again.
Kirsten Clacey
I first went to La Playa and had a very disappointing experience. However, I have to give the management team credit. When I notified them of the experience we were given a complimentary meal which was exceptional. The staff were really friendly and the calamari really was delicious.
Muneer Alexander
Overly priced food and drinks that usually come cold. Unfriendly and extremely unhelpful staff. Only decent thing could be the view but then again I could get the same from most places within the waterfront.
Kamiel Sadien
Ratings don't go low enough to do justice to how bad this place is. Terrible service compounds with overpriced, at best average food to make an restaurant that clearly skates by, amongst superior company, because its Halaal friendly and at the entrance of the V&A. Avoid it.
Monique McLaren
The views are great here, but the restaurant lacks any kind of vibe or atmosphere. It comes across as a "mall" restaurant. Which it is, so the restrooms are about a 3 minute walk away in the shopping centre. On the plus side, the waiters are friendly, professional and efficient. But then...the food. Everything on the menu is overpriced (prices have gone up it seems) when one of the cheapest items is R68. For a TOMATO and CHEESE sandwich. Chips/Salad is an EXTRA R16. There aren't many ways to dress up a T&C sandwich to validate that amount of money. I saw one fly past me for some poor (well, rather rich) dumb soul who actually ordered that. And I was correct. Nothing to write home about. I had the fish and chips for R109 (lesser of all evils as it was one of the mid-range items). The presentation was extremely boring and lack any kind of visual appeal, the (freezer) fried chips were bland and soggy and whilst the one piece of fried hake was not bad at all, it shouldn't have been at that price. You just don't have many options to choose from on the menu, really. Had a nice bottle of Sauv for a very reasonable price, so thumbs up there.
Sharna-Lee Clarke
I've eaten at La Playa often and usually leave disappointed by the food and service. However, yesterday we had a lovely, friendly hostess and waitress along with speedy service and good food. The platter for 2 is huge and yummy.
Jess Styles
Had a really lovely lunch here today. I had the Alfredo Pasta, which was a really huge portion and tasted really good. There was a slight delay in the kitchen, which we were notified about and were given complimentary coffee for (we probably waited about 20 minutes).<br/><br/>I also tried the panko prawns, which were amazing. Overall service and food were good!
Cindy Alfino
We often walk past and stop and drool over their cake selection. This time we stopped for a sneaky cake, coffee and hot chocolate with the kids.<br/><br/>The rainbow cake was a huge hit with them (every layer has a different flavour) and the chocolate cake was heated and literally melted in your mouth.<br/><br/>The coffee was also quite enjoyable so we'll definitely be back.
Christina Sardianos
I don't usually write reviews but for my experience last night I think I really need to!<br/>Never ever have I received such terrible service, not only from the waitress but also the manager. Our water that we asked for as we arrived, had to be requested for 3 times before we got it and then arrived with little moths in, no lemon as requested and given with a bad attitude. I asked what's in The 'Traditional Caesar Salad' and got told that it has 'little stones' and olives in, clearly showing completely no product knowledge. When the food finally arrived, my meal was an odd deconstructed chicken Caesar dogs breakfast type meal. I called the manager who was huffing and puffing and wasn't really bothered by the nights events. I then changed my meal as I could not eat what was given to me. To add the cherry on top the bill came with the incorrect items listed. We still gave a tip but then were asked why we aren't paying for the chips that came with the toasted sandwich - which didn't appear on the bill??? Just to add, the prices are ludicrous in any case!
Hend Amer
I have been there couple of times with friends and I was not impressed neither by their food nor by their service. The last straw was during my last visit. We placed our order and after 45 minutes our waitress came and apologized that the cook made a mistake and our order will come shortly ... 10 minutes later when we asked her she claimed that the cook is having trouble putting together the chicken liver pasta ... We told her if she had told us earlier we could have changed our order ... 55 minutes after placing the order and not being served, we decided to leave and we complained to the manager who apologized and gave us 25% off our bill which didnot change our decision never to go there ... After all the warerfront has plenty of options
Roxanne Boyes
This an interesting one because I didn't particularly like the vibe and the menu didn't exactly blow me away but since I got offered a free meal here I ate the Alfredo pasta and oh my - it was really tasty and one HUGE portion (So if you love Alfredo pasta and you looking for value for money - make a swing past la playa!)
Jesse Rhys Rinquest
First of all SHOCKING SHOCKING service, no one is attentive at all! Any restaurant is based on their service. The restaurant as a whole has a I don't care attitude, food is not great considering the fact you are situated in the waterfront. At the end of your day the rating says it all, actually very accurate 2/5 at most.
Renaldo Smit
Went here on 11th October '15 for the evening. Very disappointing. The food is overpriced and mediocre at best, the service was horrible! Wouldn't recommend this restaurant at all.
Kirsty Metcalf
Beyond disappointed with this restaurant! Awesome view is just completely let down by extremely slow service and cold, tasteless food! I went for breakfast and sent my food back after one mouthful. Eggs Benedict tasted like pure vinegar. Not worth a visit in my opinion.
Nicole Bramhill
We come here every so often for cake and coffee. The service leaves much to be desired; The staff are friendly but will just ignore you in favor of a conversation with their friends.Coffee today was burnt. Go if : you love limnos cake but have no other access to them. Don't go if : you're in a hurry.
Suitcases And Lattes
La Playa is always very busy. Food is terribly overpriced and never particularly good. Of all the times I have gone there, the best thing I have had is the arabiatta. Service varies from good to poor depending on staff member. Ideal location and good view. Update - seated 5 people at a table for 4. Terrible service.
MelbourneLops
I'm not a huge fan of La Playa, we've been two times and both times were bit of a disappointment. Service is sooooo slow, prices are steep for what you get and overall itā€™s just a little underwhelming to be honest. We wonā€™t give them a third visit.Ā <br/><br/>What a pity, I see they got some good reviews a year + back.
Rawaan Hilberg
I had a wonderful experience at La Playa Cafe! They have the most delicious desserts and the scenery is beautiful. It's quite peaceful in the week too, after 8pm. I would definately go again!
Kauthar Kerbelker
Did not enjoy my dessert at all. Ordered a simple pancake but it was so thick and tasteless. Ended up only eating the shop bought ice cream that was served with it. Won't be back any time soon
Danielle Luyt
The service is absolutely disgusting. I've met the Owner before, and what a lovely and friendly guy. Something needs to be done and the CUSTOMER SERVICE. It's a shame, the food isn't that bad.
Maryna Aucamp
Most awful experience ever! Food terrible and cold, even when you order something warm. Staff unfriendly as can be. But maybe they see the example from the manageress. Sent my food back but was still charged for it.
SamoWamo
I would not recommend La Playa Cafe even for its beautiful view! We had to seat ourselves as ALL the staff including the manager were huddled together in personal conversation at the back of the restaurant. I gather the open door to the SMOKING section was the main attraction. A large hooka pipe seems to be the draw card to this restaurant. Our untidy waitron took a long time to come over and serve us. The loud personal conversations including foul language persisted. Dirty tables, bad service, untidy waitrons, too sweet a hazelnut latte and a slice of red velvet cheesecake later... My guest and I quickly departed after thirty minutes... Might I say NEVER to return! Close your door to your smoking section La Playa! Train your staff to serve, be polite, dress appropriately, and to keep their foul mouthed conversations for their train journey home!!
Zanu Majiet-Salie
Nice little place for a quick cuppa and a yummy slice of cake. It gets more complicated when you order food from the menu. The service is ok and a bit slow...but hey this is Slaapstjad! I recommend the Chocolochino cause its chocolate and coffee (how right can that be!!) and try the brownies! They stock Limnos cakes so you definitely won't be disappointed!
Caryn Parker
Had to seat ourselves, service, or lack thereof was poor. No smile from our waitress. Ordered a smoked chicken Sarmie, the kitchen didn't have any. The food was ok. No thanks, Will not go there again.
Paul
What a load of rubbish. Got there, nobody to show us to our seats. Found our own way there, after 10 minutes had to ask for a cocktail menu. No service for 5 minutes, then asked another waiter for the food menu, never arrived. Got up and left. Need to mention that it wasn't busy, possibly 5 or 6 tables with customers. The absolute pinnacle of poor service, don't go there... Ever....<br/>
Mel Woudberg
Been here twice. Very disappointed both times. Service is non existant. Everything takes forever to get to the table. The food is also sub standard. Ordered a salmon and cream cheese trammezinni and had to look for the salmon. The trammezinni consisted of more lettuce than anything else. Will definitely not be going there again.
Tasneem Hoosain
Visited this outlet early on my brother's recommendation. The place was full since it was a Saturday night. Waited an hour to be seated. Once seated the staff was attentive, friendly and food arrived within a reasonable time. Had a platter for 2. Generous and delicious portions. I was impressed. Would definitely return. Kitchen is halal but they do serve alcohol.
Ashleigh Scott
Terrible service and rude/unfriendly staff, waited close to 10min just for someone to seat us (the place was not even busy) then another 15 min before someone came to our table, my friends and I wanted to order a hubbly and some drinks, once the waitress came to the table is asked if we could get a hubbly and she said (in a very rude way) " you're gana have to wait long (20-25min) coz I have other tables to serve and there's no-one else to make it" she then walked away without as much as even asking if this was ok or if we would like to order anything else in the meantime... I was very unimpressed and my friends and I left without having anything...
Kooljewel
Had a meeting with a client from Malaysia. Thought we'd meet for some light snacks. Had a Nachos. Was a sad excuse. Tomato flavoured corn chips packed in a circle like a ring donut and cheese on top with some tomato flavoured sauce and a small bowl of guacamole. No salsa. All of this for R79.00 <br/>I can still taste the tomato flavoured corn chips in my mouth and my tummy hurts. <br/><br/>So disappointed. .what were they thinking to serve such a badly constructed and thought out offering.
Zack Johnson
Made a reservation on Valentine's Day. My Girlfriend and I get to the restaurant only to be told that our names are not on the list. To make matters worse, they made us wait well over and hour to be seated yet there were plenty of tables available. After being seated, we place an order and wait another hour for our food. Poor service, Horrible food and no organisation!
Welmie Loves Food & Wine
Hubby and I popped by for a quick lunch! The venue is lovely with beautiful views of the ocean. We ordered a pasta and a cheese burger. The pasta was amazing and so delicious but the burger was awful- old bun, no cheese and completely over priced! <br/>We will return for the pasta only!<br/>
Grant & Sam
The desserts/cakes promised much by their appearance, but underwhelmed. Great looking cakes, but not worth it. The service also was very disappointing.
Nafees Rawoot
Came here many times before, none of them by choice. This place is vibey and looks good. The food is ok, desserts are better though. I gave this place a 1 rating out of 10 solely on the pathetic service. Many a times we waited over an hour for something that should've taken minutes. The last time I was there, I waited an hour and a half for a slice of cake that never eventually got brought to the table yet they tried to charge me for it. Such a pitty coz this place looks cool. But the service is what will likely to deter me from ever recommending this place to anyone. If you do go, don't expect to get anything except bad service like you've never experienced before.

La Playa has a good menu and good food. Sometimes service is slow, but on the whole I've been happy with their choice of waitrons. <br/><br/>However, they need to do some revamping to keep the restaurant looking presentable - it used to look a lot classier than it does now.

Came for breakfast for the first time and very disappointed with the service, it took 35 min to receive 2 omelettes. The food is good though.

My husband and I went for a quick bite after work, and had starters and dessert. We ordered the platter for 2, it came really quickly and every item was really good. We shared a nutella waffle for dessert,it was also really good - crispy waffle with a generous amount of ice-cream and toppings. Would definitely return time and time again.

Oh how I love the view and the chocolate brownie. Excellent place for a sunday chill out session in the sun with the family. Halaal food is great but the service is terrible and food overpriced so this is a once in a blue moon brownie visit only.<br/><br/><br/>*update* <br/>Seriously!! I don't know why the cake lures me here. La playa has got to have the worst of the worst when it comes to service. You aren't greeted. You must find your own seat. You must wait. And then you must hear things like 'yassis look at this k@k tip' from other waitresses walking past. What do you expect ? You get what you give. Honestly, don't be fooled by the views and the cake display. It's not worthit.

The best part about this restaurant is the view. Love sitting outside watching the boats. The vibe has changed over the years. Its still a good spot to hangout and chill and grab a bite to eat. Some people come for the hooka. Food is good and they tempt you as you walk in with all the confectionery. Managed to keep clear of those calories (",)

we have been back many times and are never disappointed. So much that my cousins always opts for La playa when we are at the Waterfront together(Which I hate because theres so many other places I want to try) but I know I wouldnt regret it.<br/><br/>Service was warm. Our waitress Lyn, took extra time to see to us and seemed to have all the patience in the world. We ordered as follows and I can vouch that everything was incredible. (Yes I tried everything!)<br/>Ā  The view from the top is great. We were there in the afternoon, just before the sun was about to set and got that warm old school loving buzz.<br/>The menu is vast but on the expensive side, so be prepared (a milkshake can go up to R42 but its seriously a hugeass glass and expect to pay R89 for a burger and chips). Their wide selection of cakes are beautifully decorated and displayed at the entrance - very inviting and a good tactic in attracting people. The cakes are not just appealing, they're extremely tasty too. Its hard to walk past it and not mentally prepare yourself for what you want.Ā <br/>Ā My personal favourite is the Spinach and feta omelette and The Chai Latte.

Drinks and dessert was good. Mojitos were OVER minty though, and were made with peppermint instead of spearmint leaves which was a bit of a disappointment.

After a successful shopping spree at the V&A there's no better place to relax with good food, stunning views and the best chai latte in town then at La Playa Cafe! Portion control??? Non existent! You get your monies worth. Service with a smile. And my favourite part I can chill with a Hubbly or light up a smoke

This cafe has one of the best views at the Waterfront. Prices on the menu remind you that you're also here for the view, which isn't that bad, because depending on how you see it, it may be worth it. I've returned here because of the view! A great time to visit is to catch the afternoon sun, with a pot of tea. They have a selection of sweet stuff as you enter, and some savoury. It's mostly busy, and I found the service to be a on the slow side, but nothing unpleasant enough to make you never return.
