Review The Cellar Door - Stellenbosch

We booked a two picnic baskets for four people online. On the day we chose our drinks. We we escourted to our picnic pod where a lovely area had been prepared for us with blankets and pillows. Our drinks and picnic baskets were also carried to the pod for us by very friendly patrons. It was such a romanitic atmosphere with lovely views of the mountain and the dam. Would highly recommend it.

Absolutely amazing experience. The food was excellent, best beef patty I've had and the vegetarian lunch option is lovely too. The food service was impeccable. The wines are gorgeous, our wine server Billy was incredibly knowledgeable and really added to the tasting experience. All this accompanied by a breathtaking view made for a delightful afternoon.

A bit of a drive on a narrow, and not always excellent road to get to Jordan wine estate, but definitely worth while. There is a very calming and tranquil atmosphere on the deck below large maple trees at the Bakery at Jordan, with spectacular views to match. The wine is good, will definitely keep an eye out for their wines in future. They have a very limited selection of food on the lunch menu, the food was good, I felt the beer battered fish could be more crispy, but overall a great experience.

We had a picnic for 2 (cheese and meat platters, and of course Jordan wine, on the beautifully kept lawn. Highly recommended wine estate in Stellenbosch.

We went for a Saturday lunch at Jordan, and we were pleasantly surprised. The estate is somewhat off-the-beaten-path, yet it was quite busy when we were there. The drive there is simply spectacular; driving through vineyards and past lush beds and gardens. The food itself was tasty and the portions were decent, although I found that the calamari dish had a disproportionate amount of peppers. But otherwise it was a good meal, and one that will be repeated again.

Had a fantastic breakfast. Service was super. Will be back after construction finishes in Sept.

One of my favorite places to go to! Beautiful views, exceptional wine and really good food.

The food was delicious, the service fast and friendly, and the scenery, absolutely breathtaking! It may be the last wine farm on the road, but it is 100% worth the drive. They literally have cultivated a lush gorgeous picnic, restaurant under the trees on a deck. It's fantastic! Really, fantastic! And the best baked cheesecake I've ever had!

What a beautiful gem. Loved the drive in seeing all the animals and appreciated the rawness of the road and land... made us feel like we were going somewhere exciting... and exciting it was. Staff was so friendly... lived the bakery entrance door way, French toast option was the best I've had. Lovely, cosy seating with a beautiful view, even on a rainy day. Walked around the property and it was beautiful... as an event planner enthusiast... I could think of so many wonderfully events held here. Big open deck and grass areas, with a dam to just add the cherry on top. Bathrooms were beautiful and we enjoyed our visit very much!

Lovely day, friendly service... Outstanding waitress Louisa who even sang for us

The food was tasty, service good and the view amazing. It's always just a bit disappointing when the description on the menu (especially when it makes it sound more fancy and delicious) doesn't quite meet what's on the plate - in the dish I ordered, "tomato confit" turned out to be 3 halves of the tiniest little cherry tomatoes, slightly cooked and quite shriveled and sad looking. I know that's nitpicking, but other than that I can't really fault the place.

What a lovely place. 5 km from where we live.
Service excellent, food brilliant and price very affordable. We went for a breakfast and it was a allround great experience and we will be back.

An amazing Sunday lunch experience with good food and endless breath taking views of nature . The most amazing part is that it is very family friendly.

This is a lovely spot for a relaxed breakfast. Our meals were tasty and the service was good too. Jordan's is worth the drive just for the magnificent setting

We visited Jordan's bakery and although the view was unbelievably stunning, I was a little disappointed with the service.
We arrived just after 11 and were told by the waitress that they were getting ready for the lunch serving at 12:30 and we would have to wait until then to be seated. I wasn't aware of a seating time but surely we could still order breakfast until then? Thankfully we decided to do some wine tasting to pass the time.

Once seated at 12:30 we ordered some wine, a burger and the fish and chips but were told that they could not give us tap water, only still or sparking spring water. The farm itself has its own spring water supply that they use and this is what comes out of the taps etc. I was very surprised to see that when our bottle of still water arrived at the table, it was a reusable bottle that had been filled with spring (possibly tap) water and is charged at R25 a bottle. a little cheeky I think..

The food was beautifully presented and generously portioned, it also came to the table quite quickly.
My fish was tasty but incredibly saturated in oil.. this was a little unfortunate. The chips, however, were good and the aioli delicious. The burger was also really tasty.

I definitely think we will return.. A view like that, and the amazing wine deserves another chance.

The Bakery at Jordan is a great place to go for a relaxed breakfast or lunch. I have been there twice and the food has been tasty however, as a bakery bread is definitely not the star on the menu as one would expect. The service is rather slow and there is nothing that really stands out on the menu. The setting is absolutely breathtaking and the bakery has a very relaxed atmosphere.

Had a lovely late lunch at the beautiful Bakery @ Jordan. 'The Prosecutor' is one of the best burgers 👌🏻👌🏻from the very tasty beef patty with shiraz onion, Boerenkaas, bacon and gherkin on a freshly baked bun to the triple cooked hand cut chips. My daughter had the Tomato & Mozarella arincini balls which was also very tasty. Very good service from the friendly staff. We will be back.

We came here after a beautiful Secret Sunrise! There were premade wraps with egg, cheese and bacon. Lucky for me, the chef graciously made me a tasty vegan wrap!! Thank you!! 😬.

The garden is gorgeous for a little sit down and there are fabulous treats on display!

Amazing food. Value for money. And the profess staff creates a friendly atmosphere. Beautiful scenery. This is one of the places where an hour easily becomes 4 hours. Can't wait to go again.

Enjoyed a lazy summer's mid morning through to late afternoon at Jordan. Started off with sampling their wines - delish! Then headed to a patio area of The Bakery overlooking the mountains, lawns and dam. The view is stunning.

We opted for 1 x cheese and 2 x mezze platters and added extra bread platters for 4 people. Don't expect your usual cheeses - they source their cheeses locally and we ate every morsel while enjoying 3 bottles of wine. The platters are served with a 2 pickles (beetroot and sundried tomatoes) both super yummy!! The selection of breads were of the best I've had, and was polished off quickly. I just realized that our mezze platters didn't include the flatbread as indicated on the menu . The selection of desserts/cakes were very tempting but we ended off with teas and coffees. The bill for 4 people came to R1000 excluding the tip. Our waiter Farai was attentive and friendly, and saw to our needs promptly.

Having seen some of the other dishes served at the tables around us, we going back to sample more menu items, take in the beautiful scenery and sample the excellent wines!

As with everything at Jordan the scenery is beautiful. Early mornings even more so. The breakfast here is small selection of simple dishes. Not a problem in itself but really the dishes we ordered , eggs Florentine and pork sausage with, homemade beans and eggs etc were far from impressive. We left most of the meal uneaten. The sausages were at least really tasty. We tried the cheese platter last night. It was beautifully presented. Don't expect unusual cheeses it just your basic brie, camembert etc. The pork sausage rolls and quiches were divine as was the cheese cake . The milk tart was good too. Service at Jordan is always great.

What a delight! Our waitress was superb in every way you'd want your waitress to be. But we were not only impressed with the service, the food was a huge hit for us. Beautiful flavors. Loved the relaxed vibe and beautiful setting. Delicious wines as well.
A magnificent setting overlooking a lake surrounded by majestic mountains. The menu is based on homely and wholesome cuisine. We had gourmet, fresh fish and hand-cut potato chips accompanied by a bottle of Jordan's The Outlier. A wonderful afternoon was spent there.

What a terrible experience. The service was terrible I literally had to fight for service. Maybe it was a race thing since the manager wasn't interested in serving me either. The food was ok but was disappointed with the service. The only reason I stayed was because of the limited time I had before going on the Franschoek tram tour.

What a gorgeous experience! We had a lovely, simple lunch. The setting is exquisite. The burger was a bit dry and the the salt and pepper squid was delicious but a bit too chewy. The artisan Popsicles were amazing for dessert. I love the overall simplicity of their menu. Excellent service! I can't wait to come back for breakfast!

Still the best Mussels I have ever eaten!! I am looking forward to taking my mom there for lunch very soon. What an incredible experience. Everything was cooked to perfection. And how stunning it was to sit at the bakery after lunch overlooking the lake while enjoying the delicious chocolate tart. The Jordan Riesling wine is a winner!! Looking forward to returning.

Been reading stories about this place until now - and here I am. First, I went for the wine tasting because I've been after the elusive Jordan Nine Yards Chardonnay, which happened to have won the best coveted Chardonnay title in South Africa for 2015. Shane, who's on duty is kind enough to repolish my stale oral cavity on the nectars.....

For mains I opt for fresh East Coast hake served with fresh cut chips, crushed mint peas and aioli. I paired this with 2014 Jordan Chardonnay.

Ambience = 5. A definite 5. If you've been to places that makes the Poet in you come out - this is it. Rolling vineyards accompanied by lush vegetation amidst a dam....majestic

Food = 4. Hake came out quite well with its batter which wasn't heavy and the crushed peas and aioli balanced it quite well. It washed down quite well with the 2014 Chardonnay.

For dessert I settled on lemon cheesecake which I found quite on the heavy side....

Service = 3.5. The waitron was friendly and seemed quite knowledgable about the dishes on the menu.

Wine = 4. The wine list is quite exhaustive with Jordan wines featuring quite prominently. But again - would it be any different?

Next time I promise myself to visit the renowned Jordan Restaurant on the same property to complete the gastronomic journey on this beautiful farm.

Make it worth your while whenever you around these shores - and grab a winning bottle home......

Love Zomato! The bakery at Jordan was to say the least extremely disappointing.
The surroundings are breathtaking and well worth the trek off the main road.
However the service ethic leaves a lot to be desired. No welcome, NO check up if the meal was satisfactory or if you required anything else. Self service if you can corner someone. We shared a meat and cheese platter which was quite nice but the atmosphere was a killer. I had to clean our table and remove the previous customers dirty crockery. Please guys take stock of what's happening in your restaurant.

A trip to Jordan reminds you a bit of the old Stellenbosch- more rural, at the end of a long and narrow windy farm road, less commercial and without highways of tourist buses- though one had managed to find is way there.
We went on a sunny winter's day for lunch. Seating is under a large tree on a wooden deck overlooking the farm dam complete with ducks, geese and farm dogs. It's a lovely rural setting- perfect for a long relaxed lunch.
The menu is limited and we opted for the cheese and charcuterie platter. Unless you have a large appetite this can easily be shared. The platter was most delicious with some slightly different cheeses from the norm. Accompanied by a glass or two of their white wine it made for a wonderful relaxed lunch in very pleasant surroundings with homely yet efficient service.
The choice of desserts was very limited and not very inspiring. If there was a weak point to the lunch this was it. The chocolate tart tasted as if it had been bought in from the local not very good bakery.
If you want a relaxed casual winelands lunch in a wonderful setting with good food at a reasonable price, you will find it difficult to find a better spot than the bakery at Jordans

Had a delicious breakfast. The Poach then Bake was rather flavorful but the egg was a little overdone. The Croque Madame was very nice with the fried egg, Parma ham and Gruyere cheese. The coffees was nice, but the chocolate tart with salted caramel was delicious. Beautiful setting for a crisp Saturday morning.

One of the best hidden spots I've discovered in Stellenbosch, and I say hidden because it's right at the end of a little quiet road amongst the vineyards. The cheese board, wow. A good selection and generous portions. The variety of bread that comes with it is just dreamy, and so is the onion marmalade. The service was spot on, and not to forget to mention we had great company from the cutest resident dogs.
The setting is just perfect, and I will definitely be back to sit under the trees on the deck for breakfast!Amy Bellinger

Being a big wine drinker, one does look for a bit of carb to bolster the stomach and prevent any overtly drunken acts that might see one deported.
I like my bread, it acts as the matronly voice of reason, and a preventative barrier. The Bakery @ Jordan does bread platters perfectly. And then it adds great cheese, meats, condiments and says, "that isn't enough! We're gonna throw in some of the best brownies and millionaire shortbreads you've ever had." Screw Banting.
Yeah, their platters are pretty awesome and when you're eating them you're sitting on a deck overlooking vineyards, weeping willows dripping over a lake, and the Stellenbosch hills.
You should probably just go there yourself.

We had an amazing lunch at Jordan overlooking the lake under the trees. Such a beautiful setting. The Bakery has a fantastic and fresh menu. We really loved the rolled pork belly - its a must order!
Jordan is definitely a must visit when exploring Stellenbosch

I have been here a number of times. This for me is one of the best ways to spend a morning or afternoon in the whole of south africa. The venue is beautiful, where you sit overlooking a lake surrounded by weeping willows, where kids are running around on the grass.
The food is exceptional. Simple and delicious. Platters of fresh made breads and cured meats from the farm, with homemade dips and preserves, from garlic aioli to preserved figs and a range in between. Then there are always dishes of the day from slow roasted rolled pork neck to fresh west coast line fish. Everything is exceptional quality, delicious and extremely affordable. If you have a family this is an unbelievable place to spend the day for all, young and old. Alternatively if you would like to have a good meal and leave feeling happy with life in general you should go too.

NB: If you are fortunate enough to be around when chef George Jardine is having one of his saturday cooking glasses, you should grab hold of the opportunity. I have done 4 myself (See pictures for examples of what we made) and cant express in words what an incredible experience it is. To learn a kitchen skills from undoubtedly one of the best chefs in africa, and have breakfast and lunch at on the most beautiful farms in the cape included, is just a priceless experience. (Sadly this is normally only during winter, but if you get a group of 8 together you can even organise your own classes)

Do yourself a favour and go. And go now!

Adjacent to the main restaurant at Jordan wine estate and open from 9am to 4pm makes this an ideal spot or break for brunch or a light lunch. Picnic's are also available and with the magnificent shady lawns, dams and views whether you side at a table or on the grass you are guaranteed to relax in no time. Two friends and I stopped in for brunch. I had the cheese and meat platter and they had a cheese platter and the fish dish of the day respectively. The food was amazing - fresh, high quality and very tasty. The cheeses were sourced from all over the country representing some of the best and tastiest available. Staff were friendly and very helpful. This venue will definitely go onto my favorites list!
