Took some friends to Somerbosch recently and everyone, bar none, raved and continue to rave about the setting, vibe, great food (best duck & pork belly in the Western Cape) and wine! I would recommend to all my friends and anyone visiting the winelands. If, from tomorrow I was never allowed to eat again, I would be there right now to have my "last supper"!
This place was suggested to me and I am glad it was. I had a beautiful experience here and will be sure to come back. Somerbosch had great views, great staff, great food and great wine!
Somerbosch was my favorite place to relax on our trip to Stellenbosch. This little gem is a foodie retreat nestled in beautiful gardens with delicious wines and gorgeous food. I had the pate with bread and the crispy lamb. Both were absolutely amazing. The lamb was seasoned perfectly, served piping hot and you can tell how fresh the ingredients are. At the end of the meal (when we were the last people left) the kitchen staff stayed on to make us a dessert we were told was sold out. They even brought us sunflowers :) So sweet!! Everyone there made us feel welcome including the owner who stopped by to say hi. I can not recommend Somberbosch enough and I can’t wait to go back!!!!
An absolutely stellar venue, peaceful and serene under the trees.
The food was absolutely scrumptious, prepared in a very timely fashion.
In terms of ambiance, things really couldn't have been better.
Our table of 14 was well catered-to, refreshments were done quickly & with a smile.
We were constantly checked-up-on, which was really a breath of fresh air.
Well done to the Somerbosch team, we'll definitely be back!
I honestly think this place is a hidden gem. They are a family business and just across from Mooiberge on R44. We took our foreign friends there for a lunch on a rainy day and also did the wine tasting too. Decor is so authentic and basic but the food is food made with love. The staff are friendly and I found the quality, quantity and pricing is very reasonable. Their wines are fantastic too.
Somerbosch will always have a special place in my heart, because it's run by family friends. Even so, it's one of my favourite summertime lunch destinations.
When the sun's out, this is a wonderful location to sit outside and laze the day away with a bottle or three of their marvellous house wine, freshly picked strawberries from the fields across from you, and a plain and simple yet truly delicious meal.
The menu is seasonal, so be sure to try something new every time you go! Their service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is homey. There's everything to rave about and nothing to complain about. A solid choice, every time.
This was my first visit to this estate, based on a coupon and because of that I didn't expect much, as have had a few bad experiences lately. Wow what a lovely day. We started off doing a wine tasting before lunch, which I was pleasantly surprised with some of their wines. The calamari salad was tasty and tender and the burger, wonderful! The children had such fun playing on the lawn and in the tree house. Thank you for making us feel so special will definitely be back again.
Great lunch summer venue, or winter if the sun is shining. Hearty delicious food a bit on the sweet side if you - like me - have a European palate! Best poppadoms in a long time!
Went for wine tasting and ice creme pairing for a friends birthday- a must try. 3 wines each paired with an ice creme. The ice creme is made from that wine and mixed with egg and flour. I was rather disappointed when I found out that they don't actually sell the ice creme.... so bought a bottle of merlot instead.
I was recently invited by Somerbosch Bistro with some fellow Zomato foodies to try their new tasting menu. It was my first visit at this wine estate.
They have lovely outdoor seating and indoor seating with tasting room with all their wines available for tasting and a menu that should suit most tastes. Wine prices are also very reasonable.
We were treated to a sample of each dish of the tasting menu and we started off with a delicious Calamari Salad, with green and paw-paw among other ingredients.
It was followed by a Kudo Carpaccio and my next favourite one was the verjuice glazed beetroot and goats cheese potstickers.
Mains were rotolo pasta filled with smoked trout as well, which again was followed by their Pork Belly.
We ended of with two dessert samples, one being a Shiraz ice-cream. The ice cream was an acquired taste, but after two bites you palate gets used to it and it was rather enjoyable and rich in the end.
If you love a good Rosé wine, then you have to try their Rosé. certainly very good.
Food isn't bad and the setting is lovely. Service is a little slow but enjoy your wine and relax. Must take a look in the tasting room before you leave and be sure to look for squirrels in the tress!
I've been there for lunch and tastings a couple of times and can strongly recommend. Had the calamari and duck both times, and don't think I'll be able to order anything else next time I go back - too good! the red wine and port jus that comes with the duck is richer than Donald Trump - but in a good way. Their wine is excellent too, big fan of the shiraz/merlot which at R60 is amazing value - and I took a bottle of the port home last time. Oh and the red wine ice cream pairing - almost as fabulous as the staff!
Lovely setting, under the trees. Good food and great atmosphere. Delicious milkshakes. Can accommodate large groups for functions. Excellent service.
Beautiful setting. We had breakfast. A total bargain at R215 for two people, including 2 free filter coffees..delicious food.
Great place for breakfast or lunch. Beautiful gardens to relax and a nice pitstop for cyclists - right on the start of the Somerbosch trails. The food is good value for money. We had the burger, hake and chicken Caesar salad. Burgers are juicy and delicious with a generous portion of lovely wedges. The hake was cooked beautifully. The Caesar salad was not only lettuce but had generous portions of chicken and Feta.
What an amazing restaurant, with tables under a tree canopy to shield you from the hot summer sun. Amazing food, and even better wine. Steen is my favorite. The gin tasting is a must!
Went for breakfast on Father's day. Portions are huge. Very well priced. We had the French toast with bacon and cottage cheese, croissant with scrambled eggs and samon and a 3egg omelette that was as big as the plate. Everything was delicious. We sat inside as it was freezing. Unfortunately the fire wasn't lit yet as that would have enhanced the atmosphere. Outside enclosed area had heaters going. Super friendly staff. Great service.
I googled the best places to eat breakfast in Stellenbosch and this place was one of the top 5. We were not dissapointed! Beatiful setting under the trees. Food was great. Service was friendly. I would recommend booking since it is very popular and you may have problems finding a table. Very popular with cyclists that stop for a drink and a bite to eat.
Slightly embarrassed that this is my first time here. It is a gem. Laid back, tables under the trees. Big grass for kids to run around on.
Food is tasty, generous and fairly priced. Service is friendly and good.
Will surely spend a lazy afteroon there again soon.
The starter and lunch was very nice. Desserts are a big no for me
Mtb stop over, for a lot of cyclists. Great coffee, beer or wine ✋️...😜🤪
Sat outside under trees, but still in the lovely warm sun! Had great food and wine! Awesome venue with great, friendly service!
