Took some friends to Somerbosch recently and everyone, bar none, raved and continue to rave about the setting, vibe, great food (best duck & pork belly in the Western Cape) and wine! I would recommend to all my friends and anyone visiting the winelands. If, from tomorrow I was never allowed to eat again, I would be there right now to have my "last supper"!
This place was suggested to me and I am glad it was. I had a beautiful experience here and will be sure to come back. Somerbosch had great views, great staff, great food and great wine!
I had the pleasure of dining at Somerbosch in December of 2015. The restaurant provides a beautiful setting to enjoy an intimate gathering of family and friends. We dined on a particularly busy afternoon and did wait a considerable amount of time for our meal but the ambiance- including the resident canines- and spirits kept us entertained. The food was delicious, any variation of the strawberry dessert is a must have! I will be visiting upon each return trip to South Africa and recommend everyone include it in their travel plans.
We invited a group of 12 to Somerbosch for a family reunion on Sunday 27 Nov. After a delightful afternoon spent at a long table under their trees, ordering an assortment of dishes from their menu, everyone was in agreement that they would soon return with friends for the best food found in a restaurant in a long time. And I might add that the kitchen was busy. Well do Somerbosch!

Weereens, een van die lekkerste eet en kuierplekke in die omgewing, gaan maak n draai daar!
Wonderful vibe under the trees and best Calamari salad - great paired with their Dry Rosé wine.
Best place to hide under big trees, enjoy a glass of cold ones by the bottle (if you can handle it!l) have an uber relaxed time with german accents from ajacent tables, while tucking into the best salads and more
As a local in Stellenbosch this is the closest I come to feeling that I have friends who live on a wine farm....friendly warm atmosphere, great food and fantastic bubbly and wine. Highly recommended.
Somerbosch was my favorite place to relax on our trip to Stellenbosch. This little gem is a foodie retreat nestled in beautiful gardens with delicious wines and gorgeous food. I had the pate with bread and the crispy lamb. Both were absolutely amazing. The lamb was seasoned perfectly, served piping hot and you can tell how fresh the ingredients are. At the end of the meal (when we were the last people left) the kitchen staff stayed on to make us a dessert we were told was sold out. They even brought us sunflowers :) So sweet!! Everyone there made us feel welcome including the owner who stopped by to say hi. I can not recommend Somberbosch enough and I can’t wait to go back!!!!
An absolutely stellar venue, peaceful and serene under the trees.
The food was absolutely scrumptious, prepared in a very timely fashion.
In terms of ambiance, things really couldn't have been better.
Our table of 14 was well catered-to, refreshments were done quickly & with a smile.
We were constantly checked-up-on, which was really a breath of fresh air.
Well done to the Somerbosch team, we'll definitely be back!
I honestly think this place is a hidden gem. They are a family business and just across from Mooiberge on R44. We took our foreign friends there for a lunch on a rainy day and also did the wine tasting too. Decor is so authentic and basic but the food is food made with love. The staff are friendly and I found the quality, quantity and pricing is very reasonable. Their wines are fantastic too.
Somerbosch will always have a special place in my heart, because it's run by family friends. Even so, it's one of my favourite summertime lunch destinations.
When the sun's out, this is a wonderful location to sit outside and laze the day away with a bottle or three of their marvellous house wine, freshly picked strawberries from the fields across from you, and a plain and simple yet truly delicious meal.
The menu is seasonal, so be sure to try something new every time you go! Their service is friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere is homey. There's everything to rave about and nothing to complain about. A solid choice, every time.
This was my first visit to this estate, based on a coupon and because of that I didn't expect much, as have had a few bad experiences lately. Wow what a lovely day. We started off doing a wine tasting before lunch, which I was pleasantly surprised with some of their wines. The calamari salad was tasty and tender and the burger, wonderful! The children had such fun playing on the lawn and in the tree house. Thank you for making us feel so special will definitely be back again.
Great lunch summer venue, or winter if the sun is shining. Hearty delicious food a bit on the sweet side if you - like me - have a European palate! Best poppadoms in a long time!
Went for wine tasting and ice creme pairing for a friends birthday- a must try. 3 wines each paired with an ice creme. The ice creme is made from that wine and mixed with egg and flour. I was rather disappointed when I found out that they don't actually sell the ice creme.... so bought a bottle of merlot instead.
I was recently invited by Somerbosch Bistro with some fellow Zomato foodies to try their new tasting menu. It was my first visit at this wine estate.
They have lovely outdoor seating and indoor seating with tasting room with all their wines available for tasting and a menu that should suit most tastes. Wine prices are also very reasonable.
We were treated to a sample of each dish of the tasting menu and we started off with a delicious Calamari Salad, with green and paw-paw among other ingredients.
It was followed by a Kudo Carpaccio and my next favourite one was the verjuice glazed beetroot and goats cheese potstickers.
Mains were rotolo pasta filled with smoked trout as well, which again was followed by their Pork Belly.
We ended of with two dessert samples, one being a Shiraz ice-cream. The ice cream was an acquired taste, but after two bites you palate gets used to it and it was rather enjoyable and rich in the end.
If you love a good Rosé wine, then you have to try their Rosé. certainly very good.
Food isn't bad and the setting is lovely. Service is a little slow but enjoy your wine and relax. Must take a look in the tasting room before you leave and be sure to look for squirrels in the tress!
I've been there for lunch and tastings a couple of times and can strongly recommend. Had the calamari and duck both times, and don't think I'll be able to order anything else next time I go back - too good! the red wine and port jus that comes with the duck is richer than Donald Trump - but in a good way. Their wine is excellent too, big fan of the shiraz/merlot which at R60 is amazing value - and I took a bottle of the port home last time. Oh and the red wine ice cream pairing - almost as fabulous as the staff!

Wow what a day celebrating our Birthday's Saturday 14 November 2015.... Somerbosch team you pulled out all the stops... Fantastic service with not one slip serving 30 of us with awesome food and the always excellent Somerbosch wines... ... your mark of distinction... Pssst the new Chardonny and Sav is tops...Be it a casual lunch or a celebratory one, everything from the table to the team was just amazing! Thank you Landi and Marius for sharing this beautiful space ... We love you ! 💋
I have had lunch at Somerbosch more than 20-30 times, and I can give you an honest opinion that the food quality and flavours are stupendous!! With quality ingredients and innovative dishes, they never fail to disappoint even the most discerning palette!! The old faithful items on the menu like the calamari salad and roasted duck are hard to pass up, but the innovative new dishes and the always scrumptious burger (recipe changes regularly) are also crowd pleasers! Dare they tempt you for dessert! Non-pretentious but delicious! What more could one want in life and food?!
I had the most fun and the best meal at your wine farm! Sitting under the trees, devouring the best calamari salad that I will never forget, goobling ice cream made from wine!(GENIUS! and delish!!!!!!).
Your wait staff was super attentive and I made friends all around. I will never forget your wonderful restaurant - and hope to return soon!
Thank you for the great memory of Cape Town!
Dear Team Somerbosch,
We have enjoyed great tastings and lovely meals at Somerbosch. Beautiful venue and wine farm. Fantastic selection of wines .
We never ended up eating here, but we had the most enjoyable wine and ice cream pairing. The ice cream was made from the 3 different red wines we tried and they combined really well to bring out the tastes from both ends of the scale. Along with a beautiful setting and excellent service, I highly recommend this pairing to anyone looking to enjoy an afternoon out Trinka Mynhardt
Wonderful venue especially sitting outside overlooking the vineyards. The Duck was the best and the wines are lovely and really well priced. Cant wait to go again.
Wow, what an amazing experience. Modest setting in comparison to the neighbors but wines are superb and the food is incredible. You must try the calamari salad!
Lovely setting, under the trees. Good food and great atmosphere. Delicious milkshakes. Can accommodate large groups for functions. Excellent service.
Beautiful setting. We had breakfast. A total bargain at R215 for two people, including 2 free filter coffees..delicious food.
Great place for breakfast or lunch. Beautiful gardens to relax and a nice pitstop for cyclists - right on the start of the Somerbosch trails. The food is good value for money. We had the burger, hake and chicken Caesar salad. Burgers are juicy and delicious with a generous portion of lovely wedges. The hake was cooked beautifully. The Caesar salad was not only lettuce but had generous portions of chicken and Feta.
What an amazing restaurant, with tables under a tree canopy to shield you from the hot summer sun. Amazing food, and even better wine. Steen is my favorite. The gin tasting is a must!
Went for breakfast on Father's day. Portions are huge. Very well priced. We had the French toast with bacon and cottage cheese, croissant with scrambled eggs and samon and a 3egg omelette that was as big as the plate. Everything was delicious. We sat inside as it was freezing. Unfortunately the fire wasn't lit yet as that would have enhanced the atmosphere. Outside enclosed area had heaters going. Super friendly staff. Great service.
I googled the best places to eat breakfast in Stellenbosch and this place was one of the top 5. We were not dissapointed! Beatiful setting under the trees. Food was great. Service was friendly. I would recommend booking since it is very popular and you may have problems finding a table. Very popular with cyclists that stop for a drink and a bite to eat.
Slightly embarrassed that this is my first time here. It is a gem. Laid back, tables under the trees. Big grass for kids to run around on.
Food is tasty, generous and fairly priced. Service is friendly and good.
Will surely spend a lazy afteroon there again soon.
The starter and lunch was very nice. Desserts are a big no for me
Mtb stop over, for a lot of cyclists. Great coffee, beer or wine ✋️...😜🤪
Sat outside under trees, but still in the lovely warm sun! Had great food and wine! Awesome venue with great, friendly service!
Lovely Calamari salad and Steen wine under the shady trees. My sister had the Kuku carpaccio and said it was super!
Gorgeous setting close to the R44 - yet quiet and serene under the trees. Breakfast was good. Rated 5 stars as their is lots of parking, gorgeous grass and trees, beautiful old building, easy access and flat so I can take my grandparents.
Lovely place to ride your MTB to and have a bite to eat, became a bit of a lekker habit ... the French Toast is just awesome
Lovely little place to stop for lunch. Food was very good as was the service. Picturesque outdoor seating area under the trees
Lovely setting under the trees. Food was good (though short on vegetarian options) and wine affordable and delicious. Waiting staff not very jacked up. Ours had no idea what 'free-range' meant 😄. Perfect for a long, laid-back lunch.
Excellent food and friendly service. Calamari salad best ever!!
A wonderful atmosphere eating outside....couldn't do better!! No wind!!
Beautiful setting. Excellent service and food.
