Great place to have dinner and drinks, whether it's just going out with your friends or as a couple, the music was great the dj kept us entertained but I'd have to disagree with the service the waiters there never came to clear out our table after we ate. We had to change tables

This place was lit, i enjoyed the food as well as the vibe. Service was super slow tho but it wasn't a major issue because we were chilling.
Gabrielle Yitu
The atmosphere was very nice and chill.

Amazing every thing. For me best space in Sandton to relax, have a drink and chill. Perfect music scene, enjoyable company and atmosphere.

Revised review: Visited on the 21st September, ordered the basic sunrise breakfast to see how they fared with the basics....was good, with great service as well. So I guess just some work required on the more challenging dishes to improve, good going team Have visited this News Cafe a number of times in the past year. Afternoon drinks on a Friday gets a bit busy, however they're usually quiet during the mornings and during the week. Unfortunately been disappointed a couple of times on the breakfast menu, so they've lost me as a patron there for a short while. The first time was a Benedict which was overdone for soft and a very vinegary Hollaindaise and the next time it was the Choc Flapjacks, which were a little too eggy and also done to a point that it was dense and burnt. Did speak to the manager who was pretty good and addressed the kitchen team immediately on the issues, Thanks for that.

Located on the cnr of Fredman drive and Gwen Lane inside the 24 Central building this Newscafe is as old as Sandton it’s self. I always says it’s 2 energies , during the day you come for a delicious meal for lunch and at night it turns into a club vibey scene without the entrance charge, Shooter girls walking around ready to fill your tank with a variety of shooters .It’s like the go to spot after dinners around Sandton when you just want to hang , be around a nice energy. The staff is always on point , the place is always clean yet when it becomes Night time the manning of the ladies toilets decreases unlike during the day. The prices of alcohol and food is good value and that kitchen produces some real tasty meals. And ...well ...let’s just say your a single guy looking to have a good night this place has also an “interesting” wide variety of individuals to accommodate the lonely and bored. You just can’t go wrong at this Newscafe . have fun and make friends easily.

Nice place and simple day vibes. As day turns into night, the music and ambiance also assume similar trend, making this a spot to be.

Great coffee and food. Great service given by Noma, who was so polite and friendly. Mondays to Fridays, nice and quiet in the mornings, which is a good start to a busy day.

I really enjoyed the vibe here , the music 🎶 was 🔥 🔥...lit crowd and atmosphere. It was just a lituation 😎. I highly recommend the jagershots very well mixed 👌 I am definitely interested in going back.

06.03.2020 After work farewell drinks. I've never been to this branch before. It's got quite a vibe on a Friday afternoon, and the DJ played some great tunes to dance to and chill. I tried the Beef Short Ribs, and some Colleagues had the Lamb Riblets. My beef was softer than their lamb, but I did enjoy the Lamb spicing a bit more.

Drinks were good, and some great specials after 4pm. They definitely made a fab Cosmopolitan 🍹

#TheFoodMusketeer
#TheFoodMusketeerEats
#TheFoodMusketeerDrinks
#TFMNewsCafe
#DrinkResponsibly

Went there using the entertainer app, they had no problem with it. Fish was really good unfortunately the quasidilla didn't have much taste. Service was a but slow but waiters very helpful

Service was poor. Lots of staff standing around talking rather than looking after customers. Saw one of the other customers walk out due to frustration. Restaurant was just about empty but the staff seemed disinterested and management was also not proactive.

Food was average.

I did like the cool pic on my cappuccino though.

I went to News cafe for takeaway - i must say, while waiting for my dish, the music was really nice and the ambiance was chill and cozy.

The food took way to long to arrive though🤯

I had a cajun chicken salad, it was very average.
I didn’t feel like the ingredients were very fresh.

The waiters are very nice.

News Cafe would not be my first choice for a business meeting, but I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. The staff were pleasant and friendly. I was expecting more background noise, but we had no problem chatting at normal levels. I would have no problem having another meeting there.

At R220 for 6 beers, it's not exactly an economical place to grab a drink. While the atmosphere is great, the crowd here includes a few scaly characters; something unexpected from a Sandton establishment

Decided to go for lunch with some colleagues.
The place is very well set up allows a large group of people without seeming too full.
The service however was terribly slow, when the Food did eventually arrive it was very dry and a bit of a let down. Will have to give the Food a miss next time, but the cocktails are always great :)

I used to go to this news cafe a lot in days past and can remember quiet a few happy evenings there. I think it is great for casual weekday afternoon drinks or even pre drinks before going out on the town. I have also ordered food from them for delivery and it was good. They often deliver sandwiches and breakfast to me office.

News cafe has seriously gone down with their food quality!! Myself and a few friends stopped by for lunch and I ordered a enchilada and my one friend had nachos. The enchilada was drenched in salt !! I couldn't even taste the rest of it because the salt was overwhelming!! I can't believe they call this food. I sent it back and told the waitron to offer it to the chef for lunch. I still paid for something I could barely eat. My stupidity!! My friend had the nachos and it was dry and lacked everything nachos was supposed to be. She had a drizzle of cheese, the bare minimum of toppings and dry chips. Will never go back, it's overpriced and the food is beyond horrid! Get over yourselves news cafe!

Decided to go out for a drink or 2 with family on a Saturday night. When I go to drinking holes, the last thing I expect is great service so it was no surprise when we got mediocre service.

Arrived before it got busy so we got good seats. Ordered a few nibbles, wings and sliders. The sliders were delicious.
Food is reasonably priced and drinks as well. It's a great starting point to your evening before heading over to Cacoon or Taboo. Good music.

I would have rated it a 3 if our waiter bothered to smile but she was too disgruntled and those promo ladies are a bit overwhelming. I don't want your dang shots okay.
Phatu Phanzu
My old favorite Saturday night spot before relocating to pretoria.
How I missed you...
This is the right place to be if you like good music, good food and if you like dancing at the same time.
The food is proper and the vibe. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

The new menu has variety and meals are decent. Not consistent with service delivery as we found hair in our meals twice on the same sitting and same meal.

The very best venue in Sandton on a Friday evening & night for drinks and some great pub-style food. The waiters and waitresses are extremely friendly and helpful. Our favorite waiter is a gentleman named Bruce, he is superb!
Linda
First lunch stop. Delicious cocktails and their wholewheat pulled pork wrap is full of flavor. Great service and a nice outdoor/indoor space. Big variety on the menu. The staff are very friendly and their service is great. Would highly recommend for a drink or lunch .

I have mixed feelings on this one. The first time I ate here I had the pulled pork tacos. They were over priced for something too simple and actually, average. I expected more.

The second time I had a chicken Caesar salad. I must say that it was excellent. Well worth the price, and wait. Fresh. You could taste each ingredient and all of the ingredients complimented each other well.

Therefore, the average rating. I admire consistency. I am not convinced YET.

Excellent vibe in the evening! Great music! I really loved our waitress, she was so on top of things! Drink orders came out really fast! She always stopped by when she saw our glasses were getting empty. The food order did take some time getting to the table. Best place for a Friday night! The food was about average but an all round great experience!
DebbyGP
Appalling. Ordered a take away salad and they gave it to me with 3 ingredients missing. No one bothered to tell me they didn't have one of the ingredients. No thanks.

Newscafe is always a good bet for some cocktails, but I battled yesterday here to get my staples correct with the barman on duty.

As we walked in, I noticed that it was cleaning day and all the staff had arrived in their finery to dust, clean, talk, take photos.. Our waiter, was initially Delight but we were also assisted by Mary who were both friendly.

I am going to start this review with the fact that both cocktails that I ordered are ones that I have been drinking for about fifteen years. I know what they taste like. I know what they should taste like. Both, I ended up requesting the ingredients for to make myself but I am getting ahead of myself...

I started by ordering a Bloody Mary, and it arrived segmented with two shots of really strong, lime cordial syrup in it (photo attached). I returned it. I then asked for a tin of tomato juice, a shot of vodka, Worcestershire sauce and basically made the cocktail myself at my table.

A Bloody Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice, and combinations of other spices and flavorings including Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce, piri piri sauce, celery, olives, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and celery salt. ALL OF THE ABOVE but never shots of sweet lime cordial syrup.

Moving on...
Next, I ordered a cosmopolitan (also a staple of mine), but it arrived with lime cordial syrup in it and ice. Its not a big glass. I don't want ice in it or a shot of lime cordial syrup.

At this stage, I decided to walk inside to see what exactly was going on with the drinks. The barman working yesterday, when I walked inside to have a word to see if he was mistaken or it was an error, insisted that both cocktails are made with shots of lime cordial syrup.

A cosmopolitan (cosmo), is a cocktail made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed (or sweetened) lime juice. No shots of sweet lime cordial syrup there or ice cubes. The glass is small enough. If I wanted a slush puppy, I would drive to McDonalds. I also wouldn't be paying R55 for it.

I ended up again, asking him to bring a shot of cranberry juice, one freshly sliced lime/lemon and making the cocktail myself.

I started to wonder if there wasn't a valid reason that we were the only table sitting here on a Saturday and it makes me sad. I am most certainly not going to trust the barman with more creative cocktails when he cannot get the age-old staples right.

*Recommendation: Maybe this Newscafe has a new friend in the lime cordial business.

Sept 9 evening: Catch up time with a colleague friend. Went actually looking for The Baron but after GPS took us to wrong lanes, we decided to abandon our search and instead landed at News Café. The outside area was under renovation but since my friend is a smoker, we decided to sit out. Ordered for beer and some fries. Service was quite quick in getting refills for our beer. The fries were crisp and salty. The ambience inside was good though a bit dark.

I like news cafe Sandton cos of it's buzz, especially on a Friday night. News Cafe makes the best cocktails, with the Cosmo bring my favourite. Also luv their nachos & potato skins:-)

Nice setting... Good Music... Good Ambience... Staff over here is very friendly... Rates are alright and service is good! You see many local people arriving here to have some good time. Its good place to have drinks with friends and chill out! Nice to see people having good time around in generally deserted town at night like Sandton in Johannesburg.

Having lunch at News Cafe was the most painful experience ever.

Firstly the waiter took ages to bring our drinks and he got my drink order wrong three times.

Secondly, we waited for over an hour for our food... To make matters worse, the food wasn't good at all. We ordered the Big Share platter and nothing was appetising. The fries were too salty, the chicken baste was horrible, the cheese beef sliders were dry....geez!!

I'm disappointed. We informed the waiter about the poor service and he didn't seem bothered whatsoever. This News Cafe needs to up its game
Over crowded during the weekend makes it little inconvenient/difficult to find a table! Nice and loud music with wide range of shooters! Average food and average -good service! Pls prefer News cafe@ Rivonia road for a better service, ambience and to reach ur expectations
Imtiaz Ahmad
One of those places which open till late at night, and specially crowded on a weekend. This place gets mostly a very young crowd (mostly students I guess). They play some nice music (very loud though).
Heidi Bantam
The place does look a bit tatty but it's clean, spacious and they play nice tunes. The service was efficient. I had the halloumi, avo and strawberry salad, which was light and fresh, and came with a balsamic sauce. We're currently on a diet :-), so the other half had the grilled chicken breasts and a side salad. No nasty surprises there. Overall, a satisfying, quick lunch.

News Cafe in Sandown has changed over the years. I love the decor as it gives it a classy feel. Im not a fan of News Cafe food but the cherry gimlets and any given Sunday cocktails are delicious.
Blasian Princess
This place is great for friday and Saturday night drinks. They serve food till midnight. A vibrant, fun atmosphere for Joburg ' s late 20 something year olds and older

Not a great experience. Was here for someone's birthday. Staff were not friendly & took forever with our drinks. When we went up to the bar to collect our drinks that had been sitting there & wanted to pay, we were told to move over & our waiter tried to leave again to assist someone else before assisting us. Their system of doing things just does not work!! Never again!!!

Had a work lunch there yesterday. When we walked in we were greated by a very friendly waiter who accompanied us to our table. You can see that furniture is old, and some chairs are even broken. We proceeded with ordering the food, I had the chicken avo wrap, it was nice but my chips tasted very stale and it was cold. The wrap was nice but so over priced. Newscafe has really lost the look and feel they use to have.

It's a typical News Cafe situation.
Staff are welcoming and friendly, albeit that there are so many of them. Didn't spot a manager, but the service was good all round
Felt that the cocktails where a bit watered down.
Snack platters are good, but could use a tweak here and there. Just need to have a bit more options as far as making things "exciting"
A good buzz to do before missioning to the club.

We dined at news cafe when it was relatively quiet over a weekday lunch. One would think they would be on top of their game at this time due to the corporate employee feet but this was not the case. Our food took forever to arrive and when it did, it did not come all at once. The crumbed jalapeño bites were delicious and so too was the fish and chips. The tempura prawn salad was fresh but need more dressing. I have tasted better nachos (the cheese was not even properly melted) and the toasted cheese was just sad. I appreciated the apology for the delay from the waiter and manager but that was not enough for me to dine there again

The food here is pretty decent and every now and then you might find the local yuppies heading down to News Cafe for a bite to eat or a take-away. After work the focus shifts to the more liquid based items on the menu and the vibe picks up. I always get the feeling that all News Cafes try to be more expensive than they actually are, giving them all a tacky, tinny kind of feel, but this one is probably the pick of the bunch.

Fareed and I went to News Cafe for our year end catch up. I hadn't been there in a while. The service was average and we got the wrong drink with the first round. The original Mojito was spectacular but the flavoured ones left much to be desired. Waayy too much sugar syrup. I had an avo and halumi wrap and it was delicious, Fareed's jalapeño poppers weren't that great however. I won't be frequenting News Cafe but will have a drink every now and then
BenSon
They have an extensive drinks menu but the quality of every drink my friends and I have had was poor (and kak expensive). The music is vibey but after around midnight it turns into a maelstrom of rachetness ( I'm talking hobo-looking drunkards grinding on semi-passed out women). It gets really busy so expect delayed service.

The food is decent( mostly finger foods). Definitely better than the Newscafe in Rivonia though!!

This is probably the best News Café in the entire News Café chain spread in all corners of Jo'burg. if you are around Sandton and looking for a place to grab a couple of beers, this is the apt place for you.Ambience - The interiors are excellent, especially the bar. But I like the outside seating. Its tough to find a place to sit during the weekends.Music - Its lively. Drinks - I love the shooters here. I have some pictures that will lure you to come here and try out the shooters. This one's a little on the higher side when it comes to cost for two.. But its really worth the money.
Gerry Chats
Great atmosphere! I'm always there on Fridays mid-afternoon for a couple of beers with friends and it has been great all the time!!! Definitely a good buzz around 24 Central....

This News Cafe isn't a bad place for a drink and a bit of a party on a Friday night. It can get very busy so be prepared to stand if necessary and arrive early evening if you want to eat. The staff are very friendly and the cocktails and drinks variety is lovely. My one criticism is that I find the food quite expensive for what it is and that I don't get value for money. I definitely don't go to News Cafe for the food though - more for the vibe and a drink or 5.
Shahil Juggernath
Just like the Baron next door, News Cafe is definitely one of the places to be and to be seen in Sandton Central. If you can't find a table at the Baron, just head on over here. The cocktails are really well made and the food is above average when it comes to News Cafe. This is their premium venue and they keep the quality high which is great for the patrons. Fridays are usually really busy so if you like something quieter, come earlier in the week although it won't be as quiet as you think. They do have a dress code on weekends so just make sure you have long pants on.
Sandika Daya
A great place to catch up with colleagues for after-work drinks. Newscafe has a wide range of cocktails for everyone's tastes and there's large platters to nibble on.

If you're looking for something more substantial, the menu is filled with delicious meals. My favourites are the chilli chilli burger, cajun chicken wrap and the hangover breakfast.

Don't go to Newscafe on a Friday or Saturday night if all you want is dinner as it gets really busy with partygoers.
Martha Van Zyl
As with all the places located at 24 Central, News Cafe is ALWAYS busy. As a result of this, service may be slow, but servers are generally very attentive, and work hard to keep their customers happy. Standard News Cafe fare on the menu - the platters are always a good choice when catching up with friends after work.
Great breakfast menu and excellent coffee.

News Cafe is a the perfect place for grabbing a quick drink or hanging out till late with your friends on weekends. Go there post 9pm on a Friday night and you'll see the number of cars lined up along the street, shows just how popular this place is! I've been there a number of times, mostly at night, sometimes during the day as well to grab a quick bite. The staff and the service is great, and the music on weekends is killer!

The Cajun Chicken Wrapp makes up for a quick bite, but they could improve the quality of the paper used to make the roll, as it tends to stick to it. The New York Hot Dog and the Fiery Chicken Wings are my favourite, as they aren't too heavy on the stomach and go along with the drinks perfectly! Being a beer devotee, I've rarely tried anything else, although their version of The Old Fashioned Cocktail was a bit disappointing.

Do try it out if you're looking for a great place to chill-out till late on weekends.
