We went for a family dinner. The service was very good. The chef even accommodated us by preparing something which was not on the menu. The atmosphere was wonderful with live performance. My father said the ox tail was the best he had in many years. Everyone else enjoyed their food a lot. Would definitely be going back!

The Maximillien sits in the heart of the Sandton of the Da Vinci HotelSophisticated and romantic.
Cobb Salad - Bacon, pickled egg, confit cherry tomato, lemon infused avocado, crumbed feta and chevin, cos lettuce, green onion The salad was deconstructed, with it resembled a plate of salad ingredients yet to be assembled. The confit tomatos were very tasty and the cheese was smooth and creamy. It was a wonderful evening oozing with experiences and flavors

We enjoyed a lovely night out. Food was tasty and nicely prepared. The highlight for us was was having some young chefs plate our dessert at our table.

Amazing! Felt like I was in a romantic film being serenaded by the restaurant itself.
Had an amazingly succulent beef fillet.
The entire 3 course meal was amazing. The staff is great as well as the relaxing ambiance of the restaurant
Perfect place for a date night or first date? *Nudge, nudge, wink, wink* to the fellas...

A good restaurant that serves the Kobe beef. Worth a visit as the steak truly melts in your mouth, well almost. Ate a better steak made of Kobe beef only in Tokyo before. Their menu seems limited but is full of flavour. A must visit.

Fine dining for affordable prices. The manager and staff are great at the restaurant and very friendly. They have great specials on Facebook for date nights and the value you get, is remarkable and I haven't seen any like it in Johannesburg. I would return to maximillien for a special night out as the venue suits a good occasion. We were also treated to live music and a great ambience.

When the opportunity comes along to sample some of the best modern cuisine in Johannesburg, how can anyone say no?!

Date Night at the Maximillien Restaurant is just one of those occasions. Nestled in a hidden corner of the Da Vinci Hotel in Sandton, the setting with its floor to ceiling windows and views of the Sandton skyline is opulent to say the least. Date Night is a new weekly initiative that allows couples to sample Executive Chef Sylvester Nair’s mouth-watering urbanised French cuisine.

Nair is renowned as a designer of flavours and a composer of tastes, so it was with a great deal of anticipation that we sat down for dinner.

The Food & Wine

After a friendly welcome by our waiter for the evening, we enjoyed our starter of a biltong, blue cheese and butternut salad paired with a crisp white Nederburg sauvignon blanc. This subtle blend of flavours was followed by a main course of Sole en Papillote with mussels, clams, white wine velouté, tomato and spring onions.

Not being the most adventurous seafood eater, I was pleasantly surprised by this dish. Chef Nair’s flavour profiles work in true harmony and make for a very pleasing dining experience.

The Dessert

After another glass of vino, the true pièce de résistance arrived at our table – Chocolate Dome Surprise, The Maximillien’s signature dessert.

The theatricality of this dish is an experience in itself. Hot caramel sauce is poured onto the chocolate dome which melts to reveal a chocolate fondant in a sweet caramel and homemade ice-cream infusion. It’s decadent, delicious and just too good to resist!

A Must Try

This inventive take on fine-dining and meticulous attention to detail, make Date Night at the Maximillien a must on every couple’s festive to-do list.

Every Thursday night is Date Night! R400 per couple including a bottle of wine!

Nothing short of impressive especially if you get to sit by the deck. You'll get to see the city lights through walls of glass. The food is good but the have limited desert options.

Great food and friendly staff. Only downside was a very noisy party being hosted the same night. Quite a few people decided not to dine there because of the noise. Took the atmosphere of fine dining away.

I was invited to try out the newly launched menu at Maximillien as there is a new Chef on the scene shaking things up! Chef Kalpesh Hansjee has come in and taken a new approach to dining, and changed the menu quite a bit with some new and uniquely bold flavours, inspired by the famous "New York" the place where all people want to be. He has quite an experienced background, and it was nice chatting to him and getting to know his thinking about his menu. The restaurant was rather full for a Tuesday evening, with some tunes playing in the background on the Piano, with its elegant setup for a chilled and relaxed evening. It was hard to choose meals, so i had to ask our waiter Julius for some of his favourites to see what tickles my fancy. So before deciding on meals, we decided to start the evening with a glass of Buitenverwachting - Buiten Blanc, while nibbling on the complimentary breads. For starters the New York Spicy Meatballs caught my eye, as i am always weary that the food is never "spicy enough" for me, and my friend had the interestingly named "China Town Pork Steamed Buns". The meatballs were beyond impressive. It was juicy and tender, bursting with so much flavour soaking in the Chakalaka sauce, along with the bean salad, which also had a unique flavour profile contrasting the meatballs. The Portion size is also pretty generous too :-) The steamed buns, were soft and fluffy with the pork filling, and the Teriyaki dipping sauce complimented the buns perfectly. After a tremendous start to our meals in terms of flavour i.e. i didn't need to add salt or pepper or chilli to anything, i was eagerly awaiting my mains to see whether it lived up to the starters, and rightly so. For my mains, instead of going for the usual Steak at a restaurant like this (and believe me the Beef Tomahawk was calling my name), i was torn between the 2 Signature dishes of Butter Chicken Curry or Braised Beef Oxtail. The Oxtail with Pap and Morogo won me over, and my friend had the Parmesan and Pea Rissotto, with Prawns. The Oxtail, which is braised for 24hours was tender and full of flavour, it was even better when i mixed the pap with the Morogo and rolled it in the juices, it just made each bite even better. The Rissotto was tasty, a bit over powering with the Pesto, but a few squirts of lemon just helped to break the basil and mint pesto. As for dessert, this time i had to make space to give it a try. I went with their NY Baked Cheesecake, and my friend had the Signature dessert - The Big Apple. Wow guys, what an ending to a fantastic evening. The Cheesecake was plated with a citrus crumble, mixed berry compote, vanilla bean chantilly cream and a dried mint meringue. The dried mint meringue is really something else, you keep wanting more with each bite of the cheesecake. The Big Apple however, was more like a showstopper. We certainly didn't expect the simple yet stunning plating. It consisted of a spiced Apple compote with White Chocolate Mousse, on an Almond and Cinnamon sable and a delicious candied walnut crumble. It was satisfying in every bite, not too sweet, and the walnut crumble gave it that texture on your palette when scooping up a bit of everything. Maximillien also does a Meaty Monday which looks good. Beef Short Ribs and 2 sides with a complimentary Klipdrift & Coke or Devils Peak Lager for R189 per order. If i am not mistaken there is also a Seafood Friday, but best to check their social media for more details. Thanks to the entire team for fantastic service, and exquisite food. Hope everyone enjoys the new menu items as much as we did. #MaximillienRestaurant #NewYorkDininginSandton #MaxmilliensNewMenu #Hosted #TFMMaximillien #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeerDrinks BoozyFoodie Legacy Hotels

Head chef was off. Seasoning on the starter could have been better. We had a chat with the stand-in (title unknown.) All was good in the end.

Loved everything about the place! Food was very nice! The waiter was kind and helped us choose the food on the menu by recommending the best on the menu. We overstayed at the restaurant by 30 mins and the staff were still smiling and accommodating!

Had breakfast there one morning after staying over in Sandton. Overall, the food was good value for money. There is a nice variety as you would expect a typical breakfast buffet table to have. I do have to point out that they were somewhat understaffed on the Friday morning. The service was slow, and the waiters were running around frantically trying to service everyone
