Review Maximillien - Sandton

Rashia Sonpal
Best fine dining experience Chef personally visited our table to assist with available menu choices and we were not disappointed! Room service as well from the restaurant and quality of food was excellent

Great food and friendly staff. Only downside was a very noisy party being hosted the same night. Quite a few people decided not to dine there because of the noise. Took the atmosphere of fine dining away.

I was invited to try out the newly launched menu at Maximillien as there is a new Chef on the scene shaking things up! Chef Kalpesh Hansjee has come in and taken a new approach to dining, and changed the menu quite a bit with some new and uniquely bold flavours, inspired by the famous "New York" the place where all people want to be. He has quite an experienced background, and it was nice chatting to him and getting to know his thinking about his menu. The restaurant was rather full for a Tuesday evening, with some tunes playing in the background on the Piano, with its elegant setup for a chilled and relaxed evening. It was hard to choose meals, so i had to ask our waiter Julius for some of his favourites to see what tickles my fancy. So before deciding on meals, we decided to start the evening with a glass of Buitenverwachting - Buiten Blanc, while nibbling on the complimentary breads. For starters the New York Spicy Meatballs caught my eye, as i am always weary that the food is never "spicy enough" for me, and my friend had the interestingly named "China Town Pork Steamed Buns". The meatballs were beyond impressive. It was juicy and tender, bursting with so much flavour soaking in the Chakalaka sauce, along with the bean salad, which also had a unique flavour profile contrasting the meatballs. The Portion size is also pretty generous too :-) The steamed buns, were soft and fluffy with the pork filling, and the Teriyaki dipping sauce complimented the buns perfectly. After a tremendous start to our meals in terms of flavour i.e. i didn't need to add salt or pepper or chilli to anything, i was eagerly awaiting my mains to see whether it lived up to the starters, and rightly so. For my mains, instead of going for the usual Steak at a restaurant like this (and believe me the Beef Tomahawk was calling my name), i was torn between the 2 Signature dishes of Butter Chicken Curry or Braised Beef Oxtail. The Oxtail with Pap and Morogo won me over, and my friend had the Parmesan and Pea Rissotto, with Prawns. The Oxtail, which is braised for 24hours was tender and full of flavour, it was even better when i mixed the pap with the Morogo and rolled it in the juices, it just made each bite even better. The Rissotto was tasty, a bit over powering with the Pesto, but a few squirts of lemon just helped to break the basil and mint pesto. As for dessert, this time i had to make space to give it a try. I went with their NY Baked Cheesecake, and my friend had the Signature dessert - The Big Apple. Wow guys, what an ending to a fantastic evening. The Cheesecake was plated with a citrus crumble, mixed berry compote, vanilla bean chantilly cream and a dried mint meringue. The dried mint meringue is really something else, you keep wanting more with each bite of the cheesecake. The Big Apple however, was more like a showstopper. We certainly didn't expect the simple yet stunning plating. It consisted of a spiced Apple compote with White Chocolate Mousse, on an Almond and Cinnamon sable and a delicious candied walnut crumble. It was satisfying in every bite, not too sweet, and the walnut crumble gave it that texture on your palette when scooping up a bit of everything. Maximillien also does a Meaty Monday which looks good. Beef Short Ribs and 2 sides with a complimentary Klipdrift & Coke or Devils Peak Lager for R189 per order. If i am not mistaken there is also a Seafood Friday, but best to check their social media for more details. Thanks to the entire team for fantastic service, and exquisite food. Hope everyone enjoys the new menu items as much as we did. #MaximillienRestaurant #NewYorkDininginSandton #MaxmilliensNewMenu #Hosted #TFMMaximillien #TheFoodMusketeerEats #TheFoodMusketeerDrinks BoozyFoodie Legacy Hotels

Head chef was off. Seasoning on the starter could have been better. We had a chat with the stand-in (title unknown.) All was good in the end.

Now here is a place that serves amazing food. It was a bit expensive but worth every penny. The food was amazing and the waiters were very professional, friendly and all. Big compliments to the chefs they know what they are doing. Thank you. ❤️❤️

Had a high tea here for Mother’s Day. Was really good. Music was excellent! Had a young man playing the saxophone who was very impressive.
Tamara Martins
Loved everything about the place! Food was very nice! The waiter was kind and helped us choose the food on the menu by recommending the best on the menu. We overstayed at the restaurant by 30 mins and the staff were still smiling and accommodating!

Had breakfast there one morning after staying over in Sandton. Overall, the food was good value for money. There is a nice variety as you would expect a typical breakfast buffet table to have. I do have to point out that they were somewhat understaffed on the Friday morning. The service was slow, and the waiters were running around frantically trying to service everyone

This is the place to be,this was real DATE NIGHT in all forms. The food, the live band. The set-up on the table was up to the theme.

Impressie menu ,excellent food and the absolute best service we ever encountered.
Siveshan Pillay
A secluded restaurant, that offers a next level layout and ambience. The menu may be limited, but the flavors are wholesome. The staff are well trained and have great people skills, and knowledge over the food being served. Would highly recommend!

What an amazing experience, the staff are remarkably friendly, the manager exceptionally service oriented and the chef was greatly skilled. We had such a great time and as a bonus this was not Sandton prices at all, our expectations were exceeded and we left knowing we had just been in a five star fine dining place. The place is so elegant and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great place, amazing service and delicious food.

The food here is amazing, just make sure you double check your bill... great service with calming music.

I enjoyed my dinner, I really liked the food as well as their service. They also secured a table with a beautiful view for me. I loved the place.

We went for a family dinner. The service was very good. The chef even accommodated us by preparing something which was not on the menu. The atmosphere was wonderful with live performance. My father said the ox tail was the best he had in many years. Everyone else enjoyed their food a lot. Would definitely be going back!

<br/>The Maximillien sits in the heart of the Sandton of the Da Vinci HotelSophisticated and romantic.<br/>Cobb Salad - Bacon, pickled egg, confit cherry tomato, lemon infused avocado, crumbed feta and chevin, cos lettuce, green onion The salad was deconstructed, with it resembled a plate of salad ingredients yet to be assembled. The confit tomatos were very tasty and the cheese was smooth and creamy. It was a wonderful evening oozing with experiences and flavors

We enjoyed a lovely night out. Food was tasty and nicely prepared. The highlight for us was was having some young chefs plate our dessert at our table.

Amazing! Felt like I was in a romantic film being serenaded by the restaurant itself.<br/>Had an amazingly succulent beef fillet. <br/>The entire 3 course meal was amazing. The staff is great as well as the relaxing ambiance of the restaurant <br/>Perfect place for a date night or first date? *Nudge, nudge, wink, wink* to the fellas...

A good restaurant that serves the Kobe beef. Worth a visit as the steak truly melts in your mouth, well almost. Ate a better steak made of Kobe beef only in Tokyo before. Their menu seems limited but is full of flavour. A must visit.

Fine dining for affordable prices. The manager and staff are great at the restaurant and very friendly. They have great specials on Facebook for date nights and the value you get, is remarkable and I haven't seen any like it in Johannesburg. I would return to maximillien for a special night out as the venue suits a good occasion. We were also treated to live music and a great ambience.

When the opportunity comes along to sample some of the best modern cuisine in Johannesburg, how can anyone say no?!<br/><br/>Date Night at the Maximillien Restaurant is just one of those occasions. Nestled in a hidden corner of the Da Vinci Hotel in Sandton, the setting with its floor to ceiling windows and views of the Sandton skyline is opulent to say the least. Date Night is a new weekly initiative that allows couples to sample Executive Chef Sylvester Nair’s mouth-watering urbanised French cuisine.<br/><br/>Nair is renowned as a designer of flavours and a composer of tastes, so it was with a great deal of anticipation that we sat down for dinner.<br/><br/>The Food & Wine<br/><br/>After a friendly welcome by our waiter for the evening, we enjoyed our starter of a biltong, blue cheese and butternut salad paired with a crisp white Nederburg sauvignon blanc. This subtle blend of flavours was followed by a main course of Sole en Papillote with mussels, clams, white wine velouté, tomato and spring onions.<br/><br/>Not being the most adventurous seafood eater, I was pleasantly surprised by this dish. Chef Nair’s flavour profiles work in true harmony and make for a very pleasing dining experience.<br/><br/>The Dessert<br/><br/>After another glass of vino, the true pièce de résistance arrived at our table – Chocolate Dome Surprise, The Maximillien’s signature dessert.<br/><br/>The theatricality of this dish is an experience in itself. Hot caramel sauce is poured onto the chocolate dome which melts to reveal a chocolate fondant in a sweet caramel and homemade ice-cream infusion. It’s decadent, delicious and just too good to resist!<br/><br/>A Must Try<br/><br/>This inventive take on fine-dining and meticulous attention to detail, make Date Night at the Maximillien a must on every couple’s festive to-do list.<br/><br/>Every Thursday night is Date Night! R400 per couple including a bottle of wine!<br/><br/>Pre-booking is essential, Contact Naidene Cary on 011 292 7000 or ncary@legacyhotels.com<br/><br/>For more follow @dazz1210 on Twitter and Instagram and visit www.morethanfoodmag.com<br/><br/>#JoziFoodie #ThisFoodieLife #MoreThanFoodMag #RealPeopleRealTalk Janice Kelvin Leibowitz

Nothing short of impressive especially if you get to sit by the deck. You'll get to see the city lights through walls of glass. The food is good but the have limited desert options.

We visited the Maximillien restaurant to celebrate a friend’s birthday. For a Wednesday night it was quiet but they had a piano player entertaining us who was so good. They gave us warm bread with melted garlic butter in the cuts...amazing. I had the bitter chicken curry with roti & rice which was tasty. Dessert was good with a chocolate bomb that melts and reveals a chocolate molten cake...very nice!

So after reading all the amazing reviews of Maximillien, our dinner club decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, if you are expected a lively place, good food and good service then this is not the place for you.<br/><br/>We booked on a Saturday night, for 7:30pm, and when we arrived the restaurant and bar were completely empty except for one other couple who were there for their anniversary dinner. It was quite disheartening because we were expecting a lively restaurant with a piano in the background, surrounded by sophisticated people (at least we got the piano!).<br/><br/>So you can imagine our surprise when we ordered our food and it only arrived an HOUR AND A HALF later. And it wasn't like we ordered anything particularly time-consuming to prepare. We ordered Spaghetti alla Carbonara and their rump. I'm pretty convinced that the waiter clean forgot to put our order in because when we asked him where our meal was (after 45 minutes of no service from him) he had a look of surprise on his face...<br/><br/>Anyway, when our food did arrive everyone who ordered the Spaghetti alla Carbonara had the same complaint - the food was too hot to eat. In fact, I burnt the roof of my mouth off thinking that the meal would be suitably warm. But this felt, as my one friend commented, as though "it has been baked in the middle of Mount Vesuvius". That said, when it cooled down sufficiently for us to eat, it was tasty, but just nothing to write home about (and this is, once again, why I think pasta dishes are a waste of carbs in this town!).<br/><br/>My friends who had the rump said it was cooked well, if slightly more on the medium side, than the rarer side. But, that said, it was slightly under-seasoned. Although, the sauce was apparently lovely.<br/><br/>We didn't stick around for dessert, because we were worried we might only leave at midnight and, at that point, we were the only party left in the restaurant! Thus we went to Häagen-Dazs for dessert, which was probably the best part of the evening.<br/><br/>Overall, I would give this place a skip.

A date night should comprise of good food, good company, romantic atmosphere and incredible service. Well that’s exactly what Meletso got when we visited Maximillien to sample the new Spring date night menu. Located at Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton on the 4th floor, Maximillien Restaurant is situated below the DAVINCI Hotel and Suites. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening from the fine dining, romantic restaurant ambiance and the gracious hospitality from the staff, make sure you treat your loved one to this fantastic special! Make sure you try the Sole en Papilote, which is cooked in a paper bag and served with mussels, clams and a white wine veloute, tomato and spring onion. The fish was cooked to perfection and the white wine sauce was velvety and I just wanted to eat it with everything.<br/><br/>

What an amazing experience, in fact, amazing could not describe the fantastic food I had tonight. Thank you to the Chef and his team, the evening, the food and the prescribed wine was absolutely the best. I was very privilege to meet the the Chef and his team members, outstanding!!! Service was above par, I commend you, you lived up to what you stand for and most definitely recommendable, I will be back with my guests going forward, you have changed the cards, you are the best!

Excellent meal from start to finish. Highly recommended. Beautiful setting. The butter chicken curry has a kick but is delicious and not too hot. The chocolate brownie with coffee macaroon was outstanding. Overall a very enjoyable experience

I attended a dinner at Maximillen, a restaurant I was recently introduced to. Maximillien is a restaurant part of the DAVINCI Hotel situated in Nelson Mandela Square. The restaurant has recently relaunched a new menu put together by Executive Chef Sylvester Nair. The restaurant – hidden in a corner of Nelson Mandela square – is located downstairs below the hotel. Rest assured, the pursuit to find Maximillien is certainly worth it.

Nouveau cuisine gets a contemporary twist under the masterful hands of the Maximillien Restaurant’s Executive Chef, Sylvester Nair, who remains respectful to classic French cuisine without losing his personal vision. Chef Sylvester possesses a wealth of knowledge of different cuisines that he expresses with confidence and flair, but his signture is as distinct as it is subtle. He once created an lasagne with Eastern spices that challenged one to decide if it was an Italian or Indian dish. It was as much both as it was neither, but it was definitely a dish that held its own.

Aug 2017 - Date night Thursday special at R400 per couple. So heres the thing, I value consistency (never been based on other foodie reviews) in a restaurant and tonight on this evening my table of 4 were not impressed. To start its a beautiful restaurant that has the dim lighting, piano player, dark woods and a nice interesting ceiling. Its fancy for sure.<br/><br/>Going through other foodie posts you notice the differences, no breads served or sauces with mains, we had to request as meals were dry.<br/><br/>Starters of a deconstructed cobb salad was good but nothing spectacular, some bacon, 4 cherry tomotoes, a boiled egg(they say pickled but I didn't get that), 3 lettuce leaves, some feta and another creamy cheese, chopped red onion and some avo. It worked as it had a slight vinaigrette but its a salad. Mains were a linefish of seabass and rib eye. So who doesnt get excited about a rib eye on the bone, however it was flavourless, I added salt and a mushroom sauce. It was done medium but my mate wanted it medium rare and redo was basically blue with no seasoning and then he requested the fish. The fish again on both orders was cooked well but we had to request the sauces, it just lacked that flavour. The mash on all mains good but again just needed a bit of salt.<br/><br/>Dessert definitely was the highlight, a chocolate heaven, dome with caramel sauce to expose a yummy fondant, rich and decadent and my dish of the night.<br/><br/>Granted it was a special and its definitely value for money as it included a bottle of house wine as well and as we were 4 we managed to get a red and white and both were pretty good bottles of wine. The service was also inderwhelming, I didnt expect at 21:10 to tear the manager away from his table of guests to point out the lack of flavours and service and ask for my dessert since we ordered starters at 19:15, yes we waited for the rib eye correction and replacement after 2nd attempt to fish but it was a good 25 minutes before I got attention of manager to request the desserts. It is noted restaurant was not busy, at most 50% full so I couldn't understand delay. Based on tonight I'd be sceptical to return if you not at your best on promotions and supposedly cutting corners why bother? Had we had an excellent meal at the discounted rate I'd gladly return to try the full menu which by the way reads so good. A bit disappointed.

The Maximillien first popped up on my radar years ago and I have ardently followed its menu's ever since. Its inspiration: World famous Balthazar restaurant in New York.<br/>This restaurant is conveniently situated adjacent to Nelson Mandela Square and unlike many restaurants in the area, it offers patrons an all-day dining experience. <br/><br/>The Maximillien brings a touch of New York to Sandton with the launch of an inspired new menu styled on a New York bistro. The Maximillien is also one of the few restaurants that offer live entertainment as well as complimentary parking to its patrons. <br/><br/>Executive Chef Sylvester Nair has a reputation that precedes him for good reason, and I could not find fault with any of these dishes last night. I can safely say that (despite his internationally renowned Chef father, Luke Nair), Sylvester's cooking has established himself in his own right. <br/><br/>The new menu hasn't change that one bit so I will start by giving you a taste of the dishes that I sampled last night:<br/><br/>MUSSEL AND CLAM POT: White wine velouté and dill powder. Creamy perfection.<br/>WAGYU STEAK TARTARE: Wagyu beef, pan-fried Cos lettuce and whipped egg.<br/>PAN-FRIED BUTTERMILK SQUID TENTACLES: Chilli and garlic pasta, preserved lemon and truffle oil.<br/>NORWEGIAN SALMON POACHED IN COCONUT CREAM: Cultured cream, crispy skin rounded off with bok choy. My favorite dish of the night!<br/>WAGYU BEEF BAVETTE.<br/>DARK CHOCOLATE MARQUISE: Mocha toast, mango gel, toasted marshmallow, watermelon foam and chocolate soil.                       <br/>PASSION FRUIT TART: Raspberry gel, almond dust, kiwi fruit leather andseasonal berry (which in this case was strawberries). <br/><br/>Its safe to say that we enjoyed an absolute feast last night! <br/>Exclusivity, ambience and truly creative dishes that (sit on par with some of the best in the world) one would expect a visit to break the bank but I was pleasantly surprised to see that you can comfortably enjoy a meal for under R200 each. <br/><br/>I will return again and again..<br/> <br/><br/>For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

Maximillien. Situated in the heart of Sandton within Nelson Mandela Square. Here you will find nothing short of a full dining experience, starting with the menu dreamt up by Chef Sylvester Nair and his team of culinary experts. The offerings at this establishment use influences from the French while being known as a New York Style Bistro – From Wagyu Steaks to Confit Quail and even Butter Chicken Curry, all dishes have a place on the menu
The Food Musketeer
03.08.2017 There is a reason this is listed under Hidden Gems in Zomato, why didn't anyone tell us about this place. So now i am telling you!<br/><br/>Situated in the heart of Sandton, easily accessible via Nelson Mandela Square the Maximillien Restaurant boasts a large eatery with inside and outside seating available along with friendly and happy Staff.<br/><br/>Decor is simple and elegant, dim lighting, and some eye catching artworks that adorn the walls.<br/><br/>What more could a girl ask for on Date Night besides a great location, enjoyable background music, great food and fantastic company. We had a lovely pianist playing his tunes during the evening, while indulging in the meals prepared by Chef Sylvester.<br/><br/>DATE NIGHT happens every Thursday evening at the Restaurant for a mere R400 per Couple. This includes a 3-Course Dinner with a bottle of House Wine, where can you find a quality deal like this in the Sandton area to spoil that special someone without breaking the bank?<br/><br/>Our starters were a deconstructed Cobb Salad to share, all ingredients were fresh and tasty. The presentation was a bit weird but i suppose its when you not sure who wants more Bacon vs the delectable Cheese that it makes this easier.<br/><br/>For mains we could choose from the Line Fish with a variety of sides, or a chunky Rib Eye Steak. I couldn't resist the steak being a meat lover, paired with Sauteed Potatoes and Vegetables and a Peri Sauce on the side. Although everything was deliciously tasty, my steak was on the rather tough and chewy side which i brought to the Chefs attention.<br/><br/>To end off an already wonderful evening, dessert was served. A Chocolate Dome with a hidden masterpiece to be revealed in a theatrical way. On arrival the waiters light a small firework which illuminates the dessert while Hot Caramel Sauce is poured over the Dome to reveal a Dark Chocolate Fondant, which is then soaking up its surrounds of caramel and chocolate sauce. If you are a chocolate lover you will definitely enjoy this, as I am not usually one for dark chocolate.<br/><br/>If you looking for ideas give this spot a try. I know you wont be disappointed. I think in the summer months it will be even better to sit outside and enjoy the view.<br/>#DateNight #DateNightThursday<br/>

DATE NIGHT EXPERIENCE | ROMANTIC | SOPHISTICATED <br/><br/>We were invited to attend the new Date Night Experience along with some other foodies, courtesy of the Maximillien and Legacy Hotels, at the Da Vinci hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg.<br/><br/>LOCATION: <br/>The Maximillien sits in the heart of the Sandton CBD, on level 4 of the Da Vinci Hotel. Accessible from Sandton City & the Nelson Mandela Square, it's a stunning location above the busy Sandton streets below. <br/><br/>ATMOSPHERE: <br/>Sophisticated yet romantic. With soft lighting and beautiful live tunes emanating from the piano by the bar area. The Maximillien has done a fabulous job recreating a very authentic New York vibe in central Sandton. <br/><br/>SEATING: <br/>Ample seating, with both a bar area and a main restaurant. There is also semi outdoor seating for breakfast and lunch should one visit in the day. <br/><br/>DRINKS: <br/>The date night experience includes a bottle of house wine per couple, with your choice of red or white. We chose the Sauvignon blanc, which was very tasty and enjoyable with our meal. <br/><br/>STARTERS:<br/>Cobb Salad to share <br/>*Bacon | pickled egg | confit cherry tomato | lemon infused avocado | crumbed feta and chevin | cos lettuce | green onion <br/><br/>The salad was more deconstructed than expected, with it rather resembling a plate of salad ingredients yet to be assembled. The confit tomatos were very tasty and the cheese was smooth and creamy. Unfortunately one of the other couple's salads on our table was served without avocado, which isn't ideal on a date night experience. However it was quickly resolved by the waiter when brought to his attention. <br/><br/>MAINS:<br/>The choice of:<br/>Pan fried line fish <br/>OR <br/>250g Rib Eye<br/>With a choice of sides<br/><br/>We opted for the tomahawk rib eye steak and a side of sautéed baby potatos and vegetables. Both the potatos and vegetables were delicious and tender. The steak was sizable and a very generous portion with a beautifully frenched bone that gave the steak the look of a massive tomahawk on your plate. The dish also comes with your choice of sauce. We chose for one mushroom and one pepper. We ordered our steaks medium, but found them to be slightly tough and more on the side of medium well. The steak was tasty and was complimented well by the sauces, but the toughness left us slightly disappointed. One of our dishes also arrived with the incorrect side order of rice, which again was not what one wants on a romantic date night. <br/><br/>DESSERT:<br/>Chocolate dome to share<br/>Chocolate fondant | homemade ice cream | caramel sauce<br/><br/>Now this truly was an experience, having a giant chocolate dome arrive at your table with a powerful sparkler in full flame, gets the excitement going for what's next to come! The waiter then proceeds to pour warm caramel sauce over the dome as you watch it melt to reveal the surprises beneath!! Such wonderful theatre is created from this gorgeous dessert, and once you start devouring the decadence in front of you the flavour of chocolate and caramel take over!<br/><br/>VERDICT:<br/><br/>A really enjoyable evening out at a romantic spot in the heart of the city. The ambience created by the soft interior lighting, the live piano and the city lights shining through the large windows all add to the experience. Despite only a few small aforementioned development points the Date Night experience is definitely a great opportunity to visit the Maximillien restaurant. The evening will cost you R400 per couple & includes the bottle of wine, and a 3 course meal. <br/><br/>Our thanks to Chef Sylvester and the whole team at Maximillien for hosting us for the evening!<br/><br/>#justenjoy #mattandleaabroad<br/><br/>Make your reservation now:<br/>ncary@legacyhotels.com<br/>0112927000<br/>www.legacyhotels.com<br/><br/>https://www.mattandleaabroad.com/single-post/2017/08/05/Maximillien-Da-Vinci-Hotel

Great food and service. We had the salmon and lamb chops which were both delicious. Our chocolate dome dessert was amazing and topped the evening off.
The Great Diner
What a stunning interior. Makes you feel like you have just stepped into one of NYC's top restaurants.<br/>We opted for the seafood chowder to start. Very tasty. Then on to the Wagyu rumps for mains. Was good. Nothing spectacular for the price you pay. Very good wine list.<br/>Very quiet, so lacks a bit of ambiance. Suppose not everyone likes trying out hotel restaurants. Perhaps more PR needed.

I’ve heard so many great things about this gorgeous restaurant, was so eager to check it out myself! <br/><br/>This restaurant has got a very classic and stylish bistro feel, and during the course of the evening I learnt that the Maximillien’s style and design is inspired by the renowned Balthazar restaurant in New York -pretty cool huh?<br/><br/>Dark leather booths, gorgeous mood lighting and the soothing sounds coming from a pianist playing a baby grand piano in one corner of the restaurant.  Simply charming! <br/><br/>We were on a mission to try out the brand new winter menu – expertly designed and perfectly executed by the Maximillien’s renowned Executive Chef, Sylvester Nair.  So curious to see what Chef Sylvester has got to offer, we were shown to our table and started examining the menu. <br/><br/>I decided to try the Wagyu Steak Tartare as starter, and the Norwegian Salmon as main course.<br/><br/>I must apologise for the quality of my photos though – using a smartphone to take photos in low light wasn’t the best decision – and I personally think it doesn’t do the dishes justice.<br/><br/>The Wagyu Steak Tartare is served with pan-fried cos lettuce and whipped egg – and I really like the unique presentation!  This is such a tasty dish, with the different textures of the various elements just worked so well together!  I thoroughly enjoyed it! <br/><br/>Next up – mains!  And wow, another winner!  A generous piece of Norwegian Salmon is poached in coconut cream, and served with bok choy.  Simply delicious! <br/><br/>A beautiful meal at a beautiful restaurant.<br/><br/>Thank you so much to the Maximillien for hosting us!

One of the best steaks I have ever eaten! The atmosphere is a little stiff but the live piano player is a nice touch. Not cheap but the food was worth every cent! Also the chocolate dome dessert is decadent and very sweet! But worth a try! <br/>

Our first @comewinewithus for Jozi this year took place at Maximillien. The location itself I was sold on. Nestled in the middle of Santon with awesome roof top views it was one for the books. The food was lovely and the staff was friendly. Thank you for hosting us.

Our time here with #CWWU was absolutely lovely. For mains, I had some of the best line fish I've ever had, with some delicious aglio e olio-style spaghetti. The service was also great (ask for Ronnie) and the ambience is lovely!

Chicken salad turned on its head. Try chicken roulade as the starter. Great food amazing atmosphere. Enjoying come wine with us showcasing Durbanville hills wine.

Went here on a week day for a friends birthday supper. The food was overpriced and bland. The place was dead with no atmosphere at all. Will try it on another night to provide better feedback. The service was very good though - then again we were the only people there 🙊

When you get a #DineJoziStyle invite, you can be assured that it is going to be a treat. We headed out to the Maxim Lounge in the Legacy Corner section of Sandton, thinking that we would be treated for drinks at the only Whisky Lounge in Sandton. Well, I was half right. We socialised in the lounge for a while & then we were told to get ready to head on out. (This made me slightly nervous. I was unsure of what to expect.)

Amazing! Chef Nair did the damn thing!! 👏👏👑<br/><br/>This was my 1st #ZomatoPinkTable event and yes, we sure kicked Cancer's ass! (Visit thepinktableroject.com and Zomato's Pink Table Project Collection to learn more about the drive and get involved!)<br/><br/>Enjoyed the amazing food! Was blown away, to say the least. Highly recommend this establishment.👍🔥<br/>

I joined a group for an exclusive chef's table with Chef Sylvester Nair here last night and was blown away by the presentation and attention put in to each course. Expertly paired with wines from Warwick Winery and Rupert and Rothschild Estates amongst others - this has to go down in my books as one of my most "breath taking away" dining experiences ever.<br/><br/>A welcome drink called an Afripolitan greeted us on arrival, made from whiskey and sugar syrup with a slight citrus taste to it, was delicious and refreshing after a long hot day at work.<br/><br/>We started with Oysters Rockefeller served amuse bouche - the dry ice created a  beautiful smokey effect that was ethereal.<br/>We then enjoyed a delicious Appetizer of flame-grilled prawn with a green pea puree, sesame powder & beetroat foam paired expertly with a delicious  Rupert & Rothschild Pinot Grigio.<br/><br/>Next up an entree of pan fried Linefish with a steamed lobster tail and picked courgette.<br/><br/>A palate cleanser of a Kiwi and Ginger sorbet was then served, before we moved on to our mains. <br/><br/>Slow cooked Lamb fillet served with a carefully constructed baby potato with  cream cheese and slow roasted brussel sprouts of all things. I wish my mom had made them this way!<br/><br/>Dessert was nothing short of amazing - strawberry tart with a delicious rooibos ice-cream. The attention to detail on all dishes was totally exquisite - this is the place to take someone for that super special date - do the chef's table if you can! Thank you #DineJoziStyleMaximillien

After a poor start to the evening it ended up to be a good experience. We booked weeks ago and when we showed up last night we're informed there was a private function so we were sent to the pool restaurant. If I wanted to eat at the pool I would have booked at the pool. Long story short we ended up eating in the cigar lounge, we both smoke so that was okay. Then we ordered a lovely wine, a 2010 vintage and the waiter arrived with a 2013 and told us we had to pay the same price as the 2010 shocking 😤<br/>However Warren came to the rescue and with a lot of effort gave us a lovely off menu bottle of wine and together with very tasty food we had a great evening. Heads up management if you close your restaurant for a private function let us know, you are not the only restaurant in Sandton and if you keep this up we will never come back again.

Very nice setting with nice ambience. Went on a Thursday night after 9 and it was quite empty. Live piano playing was very good. Chicken Supreme was ordered was tasty but the chicken was dry. Overall quite a nice place.

A hidden Gem, great restaurant and the manager on duty, Warren was an absolute super star, really treated us like super stars. We sat on the deck section while they had live music playing. <br/><br/>Great little place

Pressed ceilings, leather seating, huge mirrors on the walls ....  <br/><br/>I wanted the R90 dessert ... Chocolate Dome, covering a ball of ice cream and a PERFECTLY baked Chocolate Fondant ... when we cut the Chocolate Fondant, the liquid chocolate 'lava-ed' out.  This dessert is for 2 people, it's a real 'wow' and yet not overly sweet.  <br/><br/>Started off the evening with freshly baked miniature bread rolls.  Looked around for butter, found none ... until we saw each roll was sliced ... and inside was a knob of butter!  <br/><br/>Norman our waiter was an excellent sales-waiter!  From the start, I told Norman:  I'm mostly here for dessert ... so pretty please keep one for me ... <br/><br/>His recommendation for me was their special of Butter Chicken.  When Norman asked for our orders, I told him I'll just have a salad.  I thought he was about to faint.  <br/><br/>Oh my goodness ... was it ever so good!!!!!!!!  Served with fluffy Basmati rice, a tomato-onion relish and buttered Naan ... it was dark red, it was flavorsome, it was just amazing!!!<br/><br/>Warren, our host, was attentive and visited the tables in the restaurant, chatting and checking.<br/><br/>Hein had a 300 g rump steak, perfectly cooked medium-rare!!!  Served with a thin, cut-through marrow bone, braised cabbage and stywe pap.  Extra sauce was Madagascan.  He was in steak-heaven!!!!!  In the end, Warren offered Hein some of my Butter Chicken sauce for his pap ... Hein did not say no.<br/><br/>Most of my Butter Chicken was still on my plate ... Norman raised his eyebrows ... I told him ... Norman, remember ... dessert ...<br/><br/>The chef brought out the dessert and told us happy Anniversary (Hein and I met on a blind date in Stellenbosch 25 years ago) ...  on the plate you see this big chocolate dome.  (I didn't take pictures, cause I took a video.)  The chef then pours over the centre of the dome, this hot caramel sauce.  This chocolate dome then slowly dissolves in a quite spectacular way ... leaving only 2 big balls on the plate ... one was a vanilla ice cream ball on a crumb crust ... the other was a PERFECTLY baked Chocolate Fondant pudding.  With the caramel sauce puddle all around the balls.<br/><br/>OH MY WORD!!!!  This was just plain amazing!!!!!!!  I would choose this R90 dessert a million times over a R90 so-so-not-so-great-milkshake from Craft, Parkhurst.  And funny enough, this dessert is really not overly sweet.<br/><br/>With a strong black coffee, I slowly enjoyed Chocolate heaven.  Hein had a few bites and enjoyed his Johnnie Black whisky on the side.<br/><br/>Warren came to chat with us, pulled up a chair and we chatted about restaurants, food and life in general.<br/><br/>What a fabulous experience!!!

This place is in a league of its own!!! The interior is breathtaking and the food is delicious!! Situated inside the Da Vinci hotel this is a must try in the Sandton area! Service is efficient and good! Will certainly be returning!

<br/>I am glad I gave this restaurant a second try with my friend because their salmon was well cooked and tasted good. My past experience wasn't as pleasing: <br/><br/>My partner and I do this one month anniversary dinner since the day we starting dating. So we decided to give Maxwell Willams a try.<br/>The whole setting and vibe was wonderfully romantic and the service decent. We had mentioned it was our anniversary and we were given a complementary cupcake and that was the best part of our dinner. I ordered the ostrich and I was disappointed as it tasted unbelievably bland. My partner was too disappointed with his meal. Not to mention (upon reserving a table earlier during the day) it felt like we were shoved in the least romantic corner table but we managed to make it a good date. Thankfully they managed to change my perception of this restaurant and I will have to somehow convince my scarred partner to eat here again.

I had heard about this restaurant from a couple of people over a long period of time and decided to go and try it. It has the look and feel of an old fashioned New York steakhouse with lots of dark wood and black and white tiles and a piano and a live music performance, very cosy and comforting. The service was relay very good and staff were extremely helpful and friendly.<br/><br/>Food was also really good. We had the Sesame crusted Salmon, the Chicken Saltimbocca and the Creamy Penne Polo, all very tasty and well prepared. <br/><br/>The restaurant also has an outside seating area with a glass roof and walls, but closed off as it's not ideal for winter. I would love to try it out in summer.<br/><br/>Overall I like it and will return.

I was treated to a very special evening at Maximillien over the weekend. On Fridays they have live music - soft and unobtrusive but very entertaining. The service was fantastic and the food was amazing. They start you off with these warm garlic rolls that are so delicious and leave you wanting more. For mains I had the whole baked fish which was delicious but my partner had the best seafood pasta I have ever tasted. Creamy and garlicy. Best best best! For dessert we shared the chocolate fudge pudding drenched in caramel sauce with ice-cream and crumble on the side. I highly recommend this restaurant. Ps. Park in the Da Vinci hotel and they will comp your parking 😊<br/><br/>We ended up going last night and they had a Date<br/>Night special which they run every Thursday. R400 for a bottle of house wine, a cob salad, a choice of fish or ribeye and a chocolate fondant dessert. Absolutely fantastic value for money. Food and service were superb.

Once you walk into Maxmillien you'll be forgiven to have blues that you're in one of those famous New York steak eateries - wood panel walls and big windows overlooking one of the busiest intersections in Sandton. <br/><br/>Ambience =5. Beautiful space - big investment made in the look of the place<br/><br/>Food = 5 Enjoyed the fare. Had seared salmon served with garlic gnocchi and vegetables for lunch - and later fillet steak served with veggies and fries, downed with Rupert Optima blend. This completed with strawberry Creme Brûlée - my first - beautiful. <br/><br/>Wine = 4. Quite an extensive wine list...with matching hefty price tags...<br/><br/>Service = 2 Wayward service from the manager for the day nearly messed our otherwise beautiful dinner with her patronizing attitude...<br/><br/>Beautiful eatery in the heart of Sandton - willing to serve...

Visited the Maximillien Restaurant yesterday with work colleagues for a farewell. Arrived just after 5pm and we were the only patrons there for a while. I ordered the Prawn and Calamari Tagliatelle. It was divine. Lots of seafood and a copious amount of the tasty cream based sauce. The rest of my colleagues all enjoyed their main meals and went on to order desserts. I opted for a latte because I was absolutely stuffed. The background music gave way to a very chilled atmosphere. By the time we left around 9pm the place was packed and I catch a glimpse at the live entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it as a place to go for a romantic date or a group soirée. Either way, you will not be disappointed by the ambience, the menu and the service.

I booked a table as part of my sister's bachelorette. Not having been there before, I booked a little tentatively based on reviews I had read. I'm so grateful I took the chance! Great decor, friendly staff, excellent food and not as expensive as I thought it would be. I will definitely go back soon!

On strat at Da Vinci Suites for 2 days so lunch is at Maximillien.<br/>Yesterday I had crispy calamari salad, and sirloin for mains. Both were good. Calamari just needed salt and the chips that came with the steak needed to be more crispy.<br/>Pecan tart was a little disappointing. Texture was not great - a little soft. <br/>Today I had the beef carpaccio for starters and salmon with gnocchi for mains. Even without adding balsamic the beef carpaccio was tasty with just the right amount of saltiness. The salmon was cooked perfectly, however I did find it quite rich - perhaps too much protein for one meal. Not a fan of gnocchi so didn't really eat it. <br/>Key lime pie for dessert was a disappointment. Not at all tart and zesty as it should be. Tasted almost like a very thick milk tart. It appears that their desserts are not anything to rave about.

A really well situated well decorated restaurant.<br/>Good wine menu and reasonable prices.<br/>The waiter was excellent and manager Warren present and friendly.<br/>Very good food and superb dessert,<br/>Well worth the trip and certainly a restaurant to return to.
Bleedingears
Great atmosphere and food. As a host Warren(ex. Turn n Tender Bedfordview) is attentive and chatty. Not the cheapest place to enjoy dinner but then again this is more then just dinner, it's an occasion!

It is pricey, but got its good!<br/>The Steak is like butter melting in your mouth, and a proper sized beast at that. The manager was very helpful and pleasant. Only criticism is the couchie tables are too close to each other, which was a bit of a intrusion on privacy, which would be appreciated in a restaurant of this class. Our Neighbors were younger side of 20 somethings with little manners, infused with alcohol, and lots of fornication, prompting us to leave. Not the restaurants fault, but not exactly the average patron and it showed by most peoples reaction... They may need to build up a play area for the spoilt little rich kids... :-) Unruly patrons aside it was a good night out!

Maximillien Restaurant is one of the most stylish and elegant restaurants in Sandton. The ambience is one of a kind and I wouldn't have asked for any better place to grab drinks after a long day at work. However I would advise anyone to come nicely dressed as this place epitomises all things lavish.<br/><br/>I had the two most delicious/refreshing cocktails everrrrrrr, namely the Da Vinci Skyy Elevation and the Sky Passion Cooler. Just the perfect way to end my day.
Marlini
Unimpressive restaurant. The food here is over rated. A very disappointing lunch experience. I am not sure if the chef was having a bad day but I will not go back.

Maximillien is a real hidden gem. The live music, delicious food and great service made for a lovely girls dinner night!<br/><br/>We started the evening with a combination of four different complimentary breads. The garlic roll was delicious! I followed this with the calamari starter. It was soft and packed with flavour. For mains I had the beef medalions and mushroom risotto. The beef was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For dessert our table shared two desserts. The berry creme brulee was good but not particularly spectacular.<br/><br/>The service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and the pianist excelled in creating a wonderful ambiance. He was perfectly happy to take song requests!<br/><br/>Overall it is a classy and reasonable affordable restuarant, which is quite refreshing!
Merelda
Fabulous fine dining restaurant with gorgeous food, wonderful atmosphere and a more than reasonable price tag. <br/><br/>We came for a girls night on a rather quiet week night. The service was efficient, the waiter gives great suggestions and the pianist was brilliant! We requested two songs and he played both of them beautifully. <br/><br/>We ordered Chicken Saltimboca, Beef Medallion, Fillet and Line Fish. The chicken was soft and flavorful, the fish was moist and the chorizo added a nice crunch to the softness. For dessert, we had the chocolate pudding and Berry creme brûlée. The chocolate pudding reminded us of a chocolate volcano without the running centre. It was quite lovely and not too heavy after a substantial meal. The creme brûlée was tasty and I enjoy the berry twist. <br/><br/>Ps. If you park at the Da Vinci Parking, they can stamp your parking ticket :) <br/><br/>Bottomline: I like Maxiillien, definitely recommend it for any occasion! <br/><br/>Pros: great food, lovely live music, professional service, great quality to price ratio <br/>Cons: the dishes aren't very inventive

The chef did not disappoint, from crispy chicken salad to the line fish to the cheesecake. It was all presented beautifully and tasted even better. We ate here last year and I can say the food was even better now. Looking forward to the next visit.

Had a great meal and the service was awesome. Did our Ball here last year and the Da Vinci did not disappoint!! Hopefully we can be back next year for delicious food and good company.

Fine dining and the food was quality. The wine list is good but could be better. The only things dragging the restaurant down are its lack of view and the service was a tad inattentive. A bit pricy but good for a special occasion.

I had such a wonderful experience at Maximillien. The staff are fantastic and aim to please all guests. The menu is every foodie's dream. There is something for everyone on the menu and I didn't see one meal that didn't make my mouth water come out of the kitchen. The ambience is very romantic with a grand piano and a very talented pianist keeping guests entertained. The seared salmon couldn't have been cooked more perfectly and the beef medallions with mushroom risotto was rich in taste. Possibly the best risotto I've ever tried. For dessert we shared the cranberry and apple tart and it was delightful. I would go back in a heart beat.

Fine dining. .really enjoyed ourselves, the excellent personalised service received from the manager Warren and Lourens was appreciated .Thank you for making this such a special Birthday for Alice! We all had samon which was out of the ordinary, done to perfection, compliments to the chef and the home made baked cheese and Red Velvet Cakes were both to die for. The live piano music was the cherry on the top.

Lovely restaurant, excellent food the lamb shank is rich and tasty. The rest of my family ate steaks which were all cooked perfectly medium rare was prefect, and well done was still juicy and succulent not dried out. The desserts were a bit of a let down not a good variety. Very nice cigar lounge well stocked and cozy. Really worth a visit. <br/>

Last night saw us heading to the swanky Maximillien restaurant. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and I couldn't stop taking pictures. Because that's what bloggers do, right? Even the view was urban pretty. By that I mean that Sandton is really pretty at night. <br/><br/>It was the launch of their new winter menu as well as entertainment evenings. At a glance the menu looked superb but at closer inspection it had all of two veggie meals on it and both a starter which was a chef's salad and a caprese salad. Mmmmm. I'm always flabbergasted that so many upmarket restaurants don't consider one or two veg alternatives per course. I had the chef's salad for my starter and it was great. I love artichoke hearts and it contained plenty. For mains I asked the waiter to ask the chef to whip something up for me and made the most delicious risotto for me. The rice was cooked perfectly. Not too soft, not too hard. Mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, spinach and whole whack of other amazing things. I was impressed. Put it on the menu, please. Non of us had space left for dessert but we were troopers. We ordered a few and shared. My fave was the chocolate fudge pudding and for those with a much lesser sweet tooth, the vanilla crepes. We were served palette cleansers after every course and I really can't fault the service or the food. It was fantastic. We shared a gorgeous bottle of Raka red wine which was nothing short of amaaahhhzing. <br/><br/>The company was also great and we had lots of fun. Then again Samantha Wright and I always do. I also met a new blogger Natalie Katz who I hope to see more of. The Zomato team, George and Dylan, was great hosts and ensured we had loads of laughs and fun. The live entertainment lended a relaxed ambiance without being intrusive. Two thumbs up for that. <br/><br/>I highly recommend Maximillien for a special evening.
Natalie Katz
Maximillien is a restaurant that exudes sophistication; the atmosphere is very posh, with soft lighting and beautiful live music. I was invited to attend the launch of their winter menu and I must say I was very impressed. The menu has the right amount of options and a wonderful array of seafood and meat dishes. They are expensive but you are paying for quality. <br/> <br/>The service was out of this world, our waiter was so friendly, knowledgeable and his attention to detail was outstanding. <br/><br/>We were served complimentary garlic rolls and butternut soup to start. The soup was packed with flavour and the roll was garlicky and delicious. For starters I ordered the garlic and herb snails. They were tasty and VERY cheesy. Others at the table ordered the chicken piccata, the Chef’s salad and the garlic butter calamari with crispy mozzarella cheese balls. Everything tasted amazing but lacked a bit of seasoning. <br/><br/>We were then served mango and strawberry palate cleansers, they were absolutely delicious!! <br/><br/>For mains I ordered the langoustines with herbed-mashed potato- it was out of this world. The langou’s were cooked beautifully and seasoned to perfection. The mash was very tasty and smooth. Others at the table ordered the sesame crusted salmon, a T-bone steak, the lamb shank and a vegetarian risotto (although it wasn’t on the menu you can ask for it). Everyone was very pleased. <br/><br/>For desserts we ordered the mixed berry crème brûlée, hot chocolate fudge pudding and the vanilla flavoured crepes. The crème brûlée was definitely the best dish; it was packed with beautiful berries and tasted divine. <br/><br/>Maximillien is the perfect dinner date destination.

Suggested this to a friend for a birthday lunch. Birthdays are special and ought to be celebrated in style, right? well, the decor and ambience rate highly for sure. The staff are friendly enough but service was rather slow for a Saturday afternoon. The meal scores varied for our table, with some loving their dishes, others weren't too charmed. The desserts could have been a little more exciting, the coffee was rather good. Lots can be done in terms of food presentation and flavour profiles as well as service speed to bring Maximillien up to par.

Nice place to go for a chilled weekend lunch, away from all the crowds in the surrounding malls. <br/><br/>Crusted tuna steak was good. The rest of the menu is reasonably priced. <br/><br/>Coffee and cocktails were disappointing. <br/><br/>Many staff members around but a lack of service. <br/><br/>Sunday jazz makes for a relaxed mood.
