Review Antonnio's Italian Kitchen - Johannesburg

Leora Hart
A great place to bring young kids in a safe, outdoor environment. Situated right next to Lonehill park with great views of the dam and park area. The food and drinks are pretty much what you'd consider 'Lonehill pricing' but it's worth a stop especially if you have small children. Try the pizza, today was my first time visiting this place with friends and the pizza we ordered was fresh and tasty with a nice thin base. Again, a bit of a higher price than other places in the area but the quality was good. Lots of activities for the kids including a bike track with bicycles all round for the kids, a 'water fountain' set up, big and small jungle gyms and slides. Will definitely go back. Perhaps if they could have drinks specials every now and then I'll give it 5 stars next time.

This place has so much potential. It might be a bit hidden away in the shopping centre as the only way to access it is through the basement parking (from what I saw). The place was quiet during lunch and service was slow, but the salad I had was one of the best. Lovely outdoor seating with a great view.

Nice spot with great kids play area. Good pizzas. Service could be better. We waited quite a long time for our food considering it wasn't very busy. Overall good experience though.

Rich and tasty pork belly. Enormous portions. Stunning surroundings. Friendly and efficient staff. Prices not bad at all.

Sunday morning breakfast outside over looking the lake is breath taking! Calm and peaceful, the food is amazing and excellent service! A big thumbs up!

It's situated in such a lovely setting, overlooking the dam. There is an awesome kiddies play area, with seating nearby so you can relax and monitor the kids. The food is great, pizzas look amazing! The manager on duty was very friendly, bubbly and attentive. A great vibe overall!
Julia
Fantastic view and kind staff, nice food

Pleasant views across the dam and poppies in the background. Highly recommended !

This place is the restaurant formerly known as Let's Meat! Which was my favourite restaurant in all the world bar none. Highlights include. Wonderful Starters. Really wow. Proper Steaks. Done exactly the way YOU specify. Like exactly. Sublime sauces. Their Black Mushroom signature sauce is worth the visit alone. Generous portions. OK so they're not the size and scale they once were but the food is still excellent and tasty and well priced. Go visit.

Fantastic venue. If you have kids, this is the place. If you DONT have kids, there is a no kids bar too, with great outdoor seating. Delicious Black horse on tap. Perfect. Great setting, really good food. Staff were top notch too. Mishak the manager. 10/10

I would stick to sundowner drinks here. The view is beautiful and that's about all it has going for it. Ridiculously slow (almost non existent) service and TERRIBLE food. What a pity.
Ross Butt
Dear Owner, why are you bothering, seriously? If you’re this disinterested, shut it down.

Ordered a curry (very pricey) but figured if we would get what we pay for. Wrong! A curry arrived that was a STEW. No curry powder at all, tastes just like a stew. Add to that, very little juice, rather dry. Then, advertised with poppadoms and sambals. NO poppadoms or sambals. The only good part of this experience was the delivery man's pleasant smile. I think the italians should stick to pizza and pasta, and leave curries and such to the professionals. Bad.

We had such high hopes for Antonnio's but sadly our experience was underwhelming. We arrived for dinner and the place was almost empty however, our waitress was not attentive at all. Our meal took almost an hour to make and the result was far from spectacular. I ordered extra avo on my pizza (for R25) and what I got was barely a quarter of a thinly sliced avo. MY "mushroom" pizza also had barely any mushrooms. What this place does have is a great view and we wish we had come when it was lighter.

This place was a clown shown of an establishment. Waiters could not understand simple instructions. The bar ran out of alcohol during a main sporting event where we had booked a table for 30 people 2 weeks in advanced. A great venue that has potential but is poorly managed!
Very disappointing. I'm a regular at Antonnios but tonight's experience was sub par. Walked in at 7:45pm and was told they closed at 9:00pm which was not the case. The R105 Chicken Supreme was ice cold, small, bland and had a bad aftertaste. The R85 Steak Panini was bland, over cooked and icy cold. The R180 Oxtail was cold and bland and definitely did not look like a nice meal. The few chips on all 3 dishes were oily and cold. The managers response was that the chef might have been under pressure to prepare the meals before they closed. All in all, R1100 wasted. I was extremely embarrassed to bring my in-laws here after raving about it.

What an underwhelming experience. Slow service, order was not done correctly and felt the food was more like catering food than restaurant. Sad because it’s positioning is lovely.
Anthea Chittenden
Breaks my heart to score so low as a fab venue in the heart of Lonehill, it’s has a scenic outdoor setting, massive area for kids and a multitude of indoor options. Service and staff were friendly and helpful. Sadly the food was a complete let down, something has gone astray in the kitchen, pizzas and burgers were tough, dry and unpalatable. The salads and pasta were acceptable. I do hope food quality improves as this is a super space for families, famished shoppers and party goers alike.

The ambience and view is the reason we still go here. They use to have craft beer which my husband loves but now only serve commercial beers. The food is not bad.
Sabrina Kennedy
The food is good but very little vegetarian selection, so we always have to have pizza (which is good pizza) but I don’t love that you had to pay for garlic on the side at an Italian restaurant for the pizzas and pastas, which would normally come with Chilli and Parmesan and garlic at most Italian restaurants. The staff is friendly though and the view is good
Pooja Sharma
Had my daughter’s birthday there.Service was excellent.Kids loved the play area. Lovely decor & ambience. Pesto base pizza was a treat. They can include some more vegetarian options though.
Seeing a lot of negative reviews for this place makes me sad. We went there today (not for the first time) and I loved it. My pizza was delicious and all our food came in good time. The play area is great - clean and fun. Our waitress was lovely; very attentive and great with our kids. The other waiters played with them as well. It was a very quiet day so I couldn't speak for busier days. It is a little expensive but I didn't feel hard done by. We would only recommend offering more options for toppings on the kids' pizza as not all kids like ham and pineapple.
Rasmus
Overpriced and burnt. Not impressed with food. Food was cold and simple things like vegetables were burnt and therefore bitter in taste. Friend ordered a cheeseburger (!), but it arrived without cheese. They then brought a cheese sauce which is so far removed from cheese you can get. Not impressed.

We have been to Antonio's a handful of times now and have been thoroughly impressed.
Waiters are super friendly and food has been great on all occasions.

Lovely views and a fantastic day for the kids but the food and the service was terrible. Our waiter was very nice but impossible to find and it took 2 hours to get our food. We also enjoyed the live music.

But we were part of a large group of adults and kids. Our waiter could have used some help from other staff and the manager, who didn’t check on us once. Not a single person enjoyed their food. I also made the mistake of looking through the open kitchen doors, and saw a dirty untidy kitchen.

This is the 3rd time in a row that the food and service has been absolutely shocking. Food took 2 hours to arrive, was over cooked, cold and just all round disappointing. 1 waiter for a table of 20, just unacceptable and resulted in slowness and errors. This really is a pity, good venue with lots of potentials. But 3rd strike, won’t be going back!!
Zhel-Ann Delport
If I could I would rate this place a 0. I write this review after being up the whole night with severe stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. I had a Margherita pizza. How is it even possible to get sick on a margarita pizza? The only reason I chose the stupid margarita was because I thought it was the safest.
James Campbell
We went there for a family lunch on a Sunday Afternoon. The venue is perfect for kids with an incredible amount of things to keep them busy. The service also isn’t bad and our waitress was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the food is seriously poor. We ordered Burgers, thinking that it was the safest meal (we have been disappointed before) but although the presentation wasn’t bad the food was dreadful. The chips tasted old and the burger also tasted old, as if the patty had been fried in oil to get it warm. We were seriously surprised how busy the place was considering the quality of the food. If you go there for your kids, eat before hand and just order drinks when you are there.

After reading many negative reviews I wanted to share my positive experience. I hosted a dinner for 12 people at Antonnio’s and due to bad weather unfortunately were unable to sit outside. We still had a nice view of the dam though. It was the first time I sat inside so I found it a little stuffy but our waiter opened the door for us which gave us a lovely fresh breeze. Our waiter was attentive and I think because the restaurant was quiet he was able to give us more attention as he was often filling up our wine glasses and checking in on us. Our food was delicious (most of us had the pasta meals) and was very filling so a few of us walked away with a doggy. The food was also very reasonably priced. One of our meals came late though which was weird as it was the meal that required the least amount of attention. We left quite late and one of our friends informed us that they actually closed 2 hours earlier. Checking the app now I see their operating times are listed so I missed that, however I also feel its quite early for a restaurant with a bar to close at 9 (perhaps its because of the location). Either way, they didn’t kick us out so thats a positive. Had i know this before I would have tipped better! I had a very fun evening and was happy that they stocked some of my favorite wines (Springfield Life from Stone and Rustenburg John X Merriman). Overall we had a good experience.

Came here for drinks and that is where it ended. Waiters are extremely rude and ill mannered. Very unprofessional and took forever to bring the drinks. So sad because this place looks amazing. Definitely the best spot for a restaurant in the area.
Hopefully the owners can fix things up...

Beautiful setting, excellent kids play area. That's it. The service is appalling to say the least. Waited for menus, waited for someone to take drink orders, waited very long for the drinks, couldn't find a waiter to take a food order, food arrived almost an hour later (3 pizzas, hardly a challenge in the kitchen)!! Spoke to the manager, changed waiters for a third time. Same poor service. Pizzas were ok but spoilt by the terrible experience on everything else.
Rob
Terrible. Had the unfortunate experience of eating lunch there on a Saturday. The staff have seeming had no zero training and simply stand around chatting to each other, oblivious to the fact that they are working at a restaurant. We ordered three pizzas, two of which arrived after well over an hour and the third only made an appearance some twenty minutes after the first two (despite the place bring virtually empty!).The term "pizza" is used very loosely since what eventually did arrived could barely pass for something out of the frozen food section of Pick n Pay. Considering the price, one is left with a distinctly sour taste when one finally manages to escape after ensuring another painful fifteen minute wait for the clueless staff to bring the bill.
Sarageorge4
The management didn't want to do a basic swap out on the topping of the pizza for kids. The only option they have is ham, and we asked if they can swap out with chicken, management wanted to charge 18rands just to replace ham with chicken. This is ridiculous for kid's pizza that has only 3 to 4 pieces of chicken.
Karen Hulme
I am ever hopeful and yet inevitably disappointed with this place. Such an awesome location but always really bad service. And this is not the fault of the staff but of the management who are either absent or arrogant. I watched as one of the management went to the bar area and clapped her hands at the barman as though he was a dog. Food is usually very good but that does not make up for poor service.
Fleurdelysstud
Venue-great; band- great; food ok, service - sucked- we asked 5 waiters including the manager for balsamic vinegar and olive oil and chilly to go with our food before a waiter brought it when we had nearly finished our meals. Wish they would do something about this since it was our experience every time we came here. Nice place for a glass of wine while your kids play if you can get it.
Alisha Corbett
Very sad. Food has completely gone down here, as well as the privilege of having clean glasses that are lipstick free, plates and Cutlery. I didn't know that clean glasses and basic cutlery and plates are 'out of the ordinary' and asking your waiter a little bit too much. A Regina pizza comes as a 'margarita' with basically one mushroom cut up and 'spread' across the pizza and small dashes of ham that you need a magnifying glass to see. then it's funny. Making me and my family look like a fussy stupid person. Come on management. Make some change and make a difference to what was once a great family place, with great food
SA Food And Wine
We had lunch at Antonnios Kitchen on Friday afternoon. Service was great, our waiter was friendly and helpful. Great place to go have lunch a few drinks and relax while your children play. Lovely view and tranquil setting. For a starter we had the mozzarella sticks, which was amazing. Cheese was soft and gooey, and the tomato preserve is absolutely a must try. My mom had the home baked ciabatta with Ham, cheese, tomato and onion tangy Mayo, two HUGE pieces of ciabatta so well worth the price. They will definitely be seeing us again.

I was highly disappointed with the food and service we got at Antonnio's. The food was cold and the chips tasted very old. The manager said he will bring a new plate of chips. He brought it 30mins later when we paid. We waited very long for our food and our waiter was very unfriendly and disappeared most of the time. It is a pity that the food was so bad as it is a lovely kids friendly venue. Unfortunately I will not be back.

At the end of last year I gave a disgusted and horrid review. Management invited me back. And I have been Three times already, I am impressed by the improvement in not only the service and other complaints, but we went for dinner with friends tonight, and I noticed. Great service from our waitress Bridget, the food was awesome. We had snails and chicken liver starters which was pretty good. Mains was the peri chicken, lamb chops, calamari and Panzerotti for the adults...delicious! Thank you for improving. .We will be back!

This is one of the worst restaurants that I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing.

The service is so terrible that we didn't even get a chance to experience the food - probably a blessing in disguise to be honest.

The management is rude, obnoxious, unfriendly and unhelpful. With such a poor example for their "leadership" you can't expect much more from the staff. Absolutely pathetic.

Rather eat at home - your experience will be a lot more pleasant.
KylieJDV
Just had the worst experience at the deli. Don't think you can even call that a chicken mayo.. Not entirely sure what meat they tried to serve us but it was gross. The chips were raw and the bread soaked in oil. To top it off I amost choked on a piece of plastic in my milkshake. Will never go back
Chris Hartman
Antonnio's, although massive, was somehow under my radar since opening and I came across it by complete chance.

As always, I flipped through a few reviews, ranging from great to poor, so wasn't sure what to expect.

The setting is magic, especially if you have kids bouncing around. Remember to bring their costumes and, in extreme cases, their arm bands and goggles.

The craft beer on tap was chilled and flavorful, I found the service excellent (at least up till a point as per below) and the food very tasty.

The day went extremely well, it did however fall apart a bit when I wanted the bill. Our waitress had disappeared and could not be found. The manager seemed unable to help, oddly... We eventually managed to find someone to throw money at and then ran out the door.

A bit like hotel California, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!
Chris Bodill
Had a breakfast with a group of 8 friends. Had to call the waiter to order drinks and had to call again to order food. Waited almost an hour for the food. They got 2 of the orders wrong and seemed to forget about a third order. Food was also average. Unfortunately not the first time experiencing this here and disappointing for such a stunning location.

Lets start with the good - location on the Lonehill Lake (with good ambiance) , friendly waiters and great pizza's. Offset by long waits for food (especially pizza, but even for ice cream and sauce!) and not the greatest of food (other than the pizza). Overcooked and dry spare ribs which I tried to save the experience by having a satisfying desert - only 1 of the 5/6 desert options were available !! That being .... ? ...iIce cream and Bar One sauce - the sauce was very thin and the Bar One / chocolate flavour AWOL. Place has great potential and great if you have kid - avoid the food.

What a way to ruin a Sunday outing with the family! We were served rotten meat!!This is absolutely unacceptable. If I could give this restaurant a ZERO rating, I would.
Eve
Good pub/ bar food. We stopped by for a beer and a nibble. Their sausage platter was very well prepared and flavourful

The toilets are always a bit dirty and smelly though.
Sandra Alexandra Bizimana
This has become my fav place on Friday nights, great view over the Lonehill park. Great service , great food and good vibe . This place is amazing for families and casual drinks.
AKshar Sewkuran
Great venue in Lonehill over the dam to have a few beers and a casual snack. Pizza is very decent but the pastas are not worth the price on the menu. Would go back for the atmosphere and the cold beer. Service is decent
Tracey Felicidade Jones
This is such a fab place for the kids with a gray place to relax after time in the park however over the past 2 times we have been there within the last month when heave been unimpressed. 2 of the adults at our table did not touch the chicken lasagne as it was grey, stodgy and very bland. The kids pasta and pizzas were ok . My salad as ok but think the food has seriously deteriorated since we first went there 3 months ago . Pity cos we love it for our son . I think if we go back we will order a pizza as those look pretty "safe to bet on "
Geneth McAlister
We booked at Antonio's on the recommendation of friends. What a treat to sit outside in the barmy winter sun having a glass of wine while the kids play!! This place is a real treat. Our food was excellent. Topped off by an Irish coffee. Well definitely be back.

Came for breakfast to Antonnios as it's a nice place for kids to play. Sadly that's where the 'nice' experience ends there. There is exactly 1 item on the menu to order for kids. I ordered them side portions of avo and toast but received 3 tiny slices of brown avo (R20). The poor waiter had a fight with the kitchen staff who refused to replace the avo so had to get the manager involved. When talking to the manger about this he could not even look at me when he spoke. No wonder they have 7 waiters standing around and only 5 tables on a public holiday. The waiter that served us was great and our food was nice, small but nice.
Tamsin Oosthuizen
Great Pizza, great service and a great location! Really enjoyed our night out and look forward to going back. Especially loved the unique way the pizza was served, made it all the more fun.
Imogene Meyer
Antonnio's was one of my favourite locations when it opened but after waiting for service one time too many I got hold of the manager who said he was part owner who proceeded to tell me with his 25yr experience you can't expect a restaurant to be at its peak when it opens.
The breakfasts are not great. Bacon so hard a knife won't cut it. The pizzas are ok but not worth the service.
I went back a week or two ago and sorry to say it's the same as before. No one to seat you. Have to find and ask a waitor to help you. I guess this restaurant will never be ready to peak...?
Beautiful view being wasted.
Nisa Lizbeth Thomas
Antonnios is a good family restaurant especially if you have kids. However, the food is not that great. Went with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. The pizzas were good but the pasta, ravioli and panzerotti were disappointing, bland and left more to be desired. The cocktails were just as disappointing. Ordered a strawberry cocktail and it came sans the strawberry liqueur and had to be pointed out to the waitress. The margarita didn't taste any better. When asked for fresh orange juice was given sir juice instead.
TheHungryKat
I was here 2 weeks back for a friends baby shower. The place has a fun, vibrant atmosphere to it with a lovely big kids area that looked like loads of fun. The kids who were there loved it. The food we had was very good, however, the service left a lot to be desired. We had to flag down waitstaff and then wait a good 20-25 minutes for our drinks, it was quite ridiculous.
Claudia McGregor
Fun kids play area if you don't mind the kids getting totally soaked! The lamb pizza was very tasty but the chicken salad was really sad looking for R85... Pretty spot to hang out with the dam next to it.
Jessica Jowitt
Went to Antonios to celebrate my birthday and not only was the service absolutely SHOCKING, but we were sent from pillar to post while we waited for our table to become available.

This has honestly been the worst restaurant experience of my life which is truly sad considering we had booked the venue for a party next weekend.

I recommend replacing ALL your waiters and waitresses as it's not rocket science to serve a drink and some food! We waited 30 minutes for our menus and even longer for our drinks!

A terrible experience overall!
John Drowley
Great venue on the lake with a relaxed atmosphere - like going down to the local pub! Large variety on the menu and food is generally decent. Biggest problem is service is very slow.(but friendly) Could do with a little more choice of wines.
Stephen Chapman
I was pleasantly surprised by Antonnio's. It sits on the lake below lonehill shopping centre so its a very nice location. When I walked in I saw their glorious pizzas so that's what I ordered and, I was right, they are glorious but what really surprised me was their burgers. My brother and mother had burgers and I have to say, some of the best ( I ended up stealing mouthfuls off of their plates)

The only downside was slow service but the staff was friendly and respectful so I'd definitely recommend going there.
Alison
This place is a win for families with little kids. It is so great for kids to have so much place to play outside while adults can have a great meal with a view. The food is great and there is a good range for both adults and kids. There is Black Horse beer on tap to keep the men happy, the service is great and the food is tasty. You can order from the Antonnio's menu or from the Let's Meat menu, so lots of options. Looking forward to many more family lunches on the lake.
Justin Kretzmar
Went for Sun lunch to Lets Meat & inadvertently landed up here due to the kids play area. Nice for kids but very average food & waitrons who, remarkably, know absolutely nothing about the food on the menu.! I asked a question and stopped her after the 'ad-libbing' got embarrassing. Burger was ok but definitely nowhere near the 220g as advertised. Found worm in salad (happens) and the chicken florentine was tasteless - i think just not nice quality chicken. Pizzas looked good though and may go back to try them.
Erasmus Bart Sihin
Great location, disappointing food experience. Had lunch at Antonnio's recently with some friends and was sadly disappointed by the food served. I had the pork neck and bacon Jaffel burger with wedges. I was dry, bland and the meat still contained the strings inside that held it together when roasting. My friend had the Alfredo pasta which was so bland no amount of Tabasco sauce would save it, she opted for a plate of fries which she also didn't eat because they tasted like they were fried in old oil. I found the waiting staff to non-attentive and clueless about the food and drinks on the menu. Overall Antonnio's is a great location for drinks or to entertain the kids, but if you looking for fresh, flavourful meals and great service this unfortunately is not the place.
Vladmilo1
Brilliant location and a fantastic kids' play area. Alas, completely let down by terrible service with confused, poorly spoken and disinterested waiters. Even worse, the food is consistently bad, with burnt pizzas, sloppy, tasteless hamburgers and probably the worst pasta this side of a Knorr packet.

Surely hiring a decent chef and using better ingredients would not harm the margins that much?

Setting is great and the location convenient, but it's way down on the list of places to go as long as the food is not palatable and the service akin to a bad shabeen.
Katy Porter
An absolute must for anyone with little ones!

Antonnio's has quickly become one of my favourites in Johannesburg. Although I found their pizzas a little disappointing (very few toppings or cheese), the venue makes up for everything.

Located on the banks of the Lonehill park's lake, Antonnio's offer parents sanity - a beautiful restaurant that is not overlooking any car park, outdoors to appreciate the Joburg weather and with kiddie's facilities that made every one of us adults want to be young again - all of this topped with child minders and security to ensure peace of mind whilst enjoying a hot lunch, something us parents often find hard to come by!

With an array of Black Horse brewery craft beers and ginger beer - Antonnio's lends itself well to lazy Sunday lunches, but be sure to book as they get busy on weekends.

I look forward to returning to give their other, extensive menu offerings a try!

Craig Gibson
Possibly the worst and slowest service I have experienced anywhere, this year. excellent setting, but we couldn't wait to go somewhere else to get more attention.
Christopher Williams
So much potential completely ruined by shocking service and substandard food. Is it impossible to have a family-friendly venue AND good good & service at the same time??
Megz Mackintosh
Went here on a spur of the moment to celebrate my dads birthday. Our experience started off interestingly as we couldn't find the entrance to the actual restaurant with the lack of signage. When we eventually made it inside, we were placed outside and the smell of the dam was overwhelming. The smell though was soon forgotten- we enjoyed the delicious food, efficient service & casual ambience. Recommend this restaurant for drinks or casual dinners.
Kelly Emerton
If you have children I can only imagine this is the gem you've been waiting for! With a huge and exciting play area for children, parents can sit back and enjoy their vino in peace (and in a far more civilized setting than the local Spur).

We shared a gigantic platter which was delicious!

Now for the downside, it was incredibly busy because of all the year end functions, so the service was slow. But the real kicker was how hot it it was and we were placed outside on a terribly designed table which made it impossible to use the umbrella to stay in the shade. It made the lunch unpleasant as we were all hot and bothered.
Daphne
Went to test this place today. We had just missed breakfast so we settled for a "griddle" sandwich. Don't be fooled by a fancy name for a small toasted sandwich which costs R60. Half an hour later our toastie arrived, hardly toasted, the tomato still ice cold and the cheese not even melted. The view and setting is awesome.
Francis.rutaha
The place is nicely located with a beautiful view.. But the set up, sound arrangement and more so the service leave much to be desired unfortunately
Xander Karsten
The venue is excellent. The service needs a lot of attention and some organisation needs to be given when the deck is full.

The food was sub standard for the prices on the menu. Surely the quality would match the competitors who are upstairs from them (Pizza perfect and Dinos).
Gavin Borragerio
We recently had a family dinner at the restaurant. The venue and setting is superb. The service is ridiculously slow, staff undertrained or badly spoken and management seemingly unorganised and overwhelmed.

We were seated on the deck, which became crowded and our table overcome with hovering guests. There is no mosquito or other bug deterrents to counteract their bright lighting on the deck balustrade. We subsequently moved inside where the service became non-existent.

The pizzas were over-cooked and barely had cheese or toppings. The mediterranean lamb pasta was a plate of goo and clearly cooked from frozen. The food is underwhelming and over-priced.

We paid approximately R200 per head and only ate mains with two drinks each. I am unsure of the Italian menu when Dinos and Pizza Perfect are a few stairs away.
Chantelle Le Roux
Antonnio's is one of the new restaurants to join Let's Brew and Let's Meat, forming part of the beautiful Lonehill Waterfront.
With a deck overlooking the dam, you can enjoy a meal and a delicious craft beer while watching dogs frolick in the water.

Antonnio's has a wonderful menu selection - their coffee is good and their honey glazed bacon is amazing.
The pizza is just how you find it in Italy - few toppings, but really flavourful.

We also ordered some Braai Broodtjies off the Let's Brew bar menu and they come served inside the braai grill (nice detail). Delicious and filling, these are a great stomach liner to accompany the alcohol.
Also give the potato skins and sausage a go, it is spectacular!

My favourite drink is the Gingerberry - a 2% ginger ale infused with strawberries.

Waiters are great at re-filling drinks and are very friendly. Watch the wind, as you may find yourself losing a menu into the water!

Antonio's Italian Kitchen shares its deck section with both Lets Brew and Lets Meat in the Lonehill Shopping Centre.

As such, the value add here is the additional beer/cider/wine/steak options that come along with good old-fashioned Italian food. Although the interiors look shabby (and far from finished), this spot has a lot of potential so I hope to soon see the finished product!

I thoroughly enjoyed a lazy afternoon drink here from Black Horse Estate & Brewery (in Magaliesburg) whilst listening to the carols going on in the park nearby. Spectacular view, laid back vibe and a comprehensive Italian menu!

My only gripe: the service was quite slow.

*Recommendation: It is not featured on this Zomato menu, but try the Lone Hill Breakfast: an Italian twist on a contemporary breakfast! Portobello mushrooms layered with crisp honey-glazed bacon, roasted rosa tomatoes, sliced avocado, spicy rocket & poached eggs topped with a tangy cheese sauce!

Had dinner here tonight and found it disappointing. Service was lacking, yet it wasn't full. Lots of management standing around and when looking for service would call a waiter instead of stepping of their step and coming over. Salads and kids pizzas were good, but with lots of other competition out there, we won't rush back. Location lovely, but management need to remind the customer is not an irritation to be dealt with if commenting on unhappy experience. Try a smile!

What an absolute gem of a place. Beautiful view of the dam, cool shade under the trees and umbrellas. I had the pulled pork burger, it was literally life changing!!!
Celeste Sparrow
Amazing location. Food not bad. Service not great. Cleanliness a problem. Tables dirty, bathrooms smelly and a view into the kitchen with piled up garbage bags and litter scattered around the floor on the way back from the bathrooms very off-putting. Such a pity as it's exactly what Lonehill needed, my kids loved it and the pizza was tasty (if a little expensive with the menu lacking in any 'simpler' options). Coffee a disaster too, strong skinny cappuccinos being neither strong nor skinny. Hoping it was just an off day but not in any hurry to return.

Tucked into the side of Lonehill Shopping Centre, you will find, Let’s Meat, Let’s Brew and Let’s Deli. The spin-off is their restaurant Antonnio’s Italian Kitchen. I thought the name Let’s Meat was so clever. Love me a good play on words.

Welcoming drinks were served on the deck of Let’s Meat. It is an absolutely delightful space. Open, friendly and cool with a view of the waterfront. I could sit there for a very long time. Not sure what our welcoming drinks entailed but it was light and refreshing. It truly set the tone.

Making our way to Antonnio’s Italian Kitchen, I noticed an extensive children’s play area. Being a mom to many, although now (mostly) grown children, I loved that the play area that entailed water play, bikes, jungle gyms and a designated area for children to make their own pizza. It is perfect for a family afternoon out.

Perhaps the staff at Antonnio’s Italian Kitchen was a tad overwhelmed with dozen of guests arriving all at once, as the service was very slow to start. Friendly but not efficient. Thankfully this improved later in the afternoon.

Our party decided to move inside as it was rather warm in sunny South Africa and we settled into a very comfortable booth inside the restaurant. Although this took away some of the ambiance of the occasion, and the tranquil view of the waterfront, at least we weren’t roasting.

I found the décor a touch unfinished. Not Tuscan Villa, nor contemporary Dainfern but not Italian kitchen either. It seemed the restaurant was indecisive as to which direction the décor would go. The bar area is much more established. All that aside, it is a welcoming space with smiles from both management and staff.

I sampled a number of items from the menu as was proudly presented to us on long wooden tables, which certainly looked most inviting. The thin based pizza was crisp and light allowing the individual toppings to speak for themselves. Fresh and plump with flavour. I enjoyed the crumbed and deep fried stuffed jalapenos which is not something I would usually eat. Pasta was filled with flavour, cooked al dente and you can see the attention to detail. One of my favourites was the jaffles. Bring on those memories! I took one look at the caramelised onion and meat done to perfection and declared it a winner. I was not so fond of the ribs, a bit sweet and sadly did not get to taste the potato skins.

After a very healthy and hearty starter and main course selection to devour, I admit that I was disappointed that there was no dessert table. Almost as if someone forgot the final scene to a very enjoyable performance. Not one to take an oversight lying down, I ordered a cheese cake with ice cream from the menu and it was delicious. The crust was just right, the smooth texture of the cheese cake melted in your mouth. It was perfect. Antonnio’s Italian Kitchen should have taken that final bow with dessert on the table, it would have been worth the praise!

Let’s Brew was well supported and the Ginger Berry was by far the drink of choice at our table. It was gorgeous and I will certainly return to introduce my friends to a new trend in pink drinks! I look forward to returning with my family and sharing this developing gem with them. It is well worth the visit.

www.thenocturnalwenchy.com
@NocturnalWenchy
