Review Ghazal - Johannesburg

Ziyanda Yedwa
The whole experience was amazing, the food exceeded my expectations.

Very good and [hot] food. Some dishes take longer than others, I believe the Lamb Biriany was the case. Restaurant was crowded [a bit noisy (82dB)] became quieter at mid-end. The dinning room was Coltishall [main door was open], by the end of our dinner they brought a heater [too late, it should have been there from the start]. We enjoyed very much the food and the staff was friendly and efficient.

Love this place so much, had an awesome catch up with good old friends and a great meal with excellent service... wish I got our waiters name but he was awesome
Callum Kennedy
We went for a dinner and had a fantastic time. The mood and atmosphere are perfect, the staff are wonderful and very kind, the food is exactly what it should be and of an incredibly high standard in my opinion. Overall a lovely restaurant that is highly enjoyable and most definitely recommended.
Alicia Gerald
The food is always good here 😊✨️
Clarina Emanuel
A great restaurant for authentic Indian food. The choice of dishes is vast. Each dish cooked to perfection. Service is quick and efficient. Food is perfectly spiced. And you can choose the level of heat - mild, medium or hot. We enjoyed the palak paneer and the prawn khorma the most.
Ané Du Preez
Best Indian food ever! I love the vegetarian options too. So delicious! My friends and I love going here .

Cold weather. Butter chicken take away. Poppadoms. Years and years of eating Ghazals curries. Tasty, tender and the go to place for North Indian curry. You simply can’t go wrong.
Bhadrasheila Valla
Joe and his team went the extra mile to ensure that our function was a success. The food was well prepared, and the presentation was good. The venue itself was beautiful.
Milan Bheeka
Spectacular experience. The cuisine is exceptionally well prepared, with very generous portion sizes. There is a real sense of authentic, flavourful and wholesome traditional Indian food to enjoy. Huge variety of curries - sweet and spicy, lentil or vegetable based, and lovely paneers too. The Masala tea is available on request and an absolute must-try. Truly heavenly brewed with all the classic spices and hearty milk. You can appreciate the attention to detail despite the service being really speedy. The atmosphere is very warm and homely. Delightful retreat to spend quality time with friends and family.

We always order the paneer for veg or chicken maknee (aka Butter) hot flavour with garlic Naan, and a jug of Chai with Gajar Halwa dessert 🍨. Best combination for a 1.5 hour dinner. Very tasty, and still the same all these years and keep it that way. Service, manager and staff are still the same 5 star experience.

Went for lunch with friends, first time at an Indian restaurant. Food was amazing, lots of great vegan and vegetarian options. Location is quiet, spacious and great for large groups.
Family Broekhuysen
By a country mile the most flavour some and tender lamb korma curry that I have ever tasted.
Norman
Great management and staff, very friendly . The food was amazing with good portions, the garlic Naan bread amazing. The food was so good I had trouble sleeping last night as I ate way to much. 😀 as Arnie would say." I'll be back"
Gaelen de Klerk
Lovely atmosphere and the staff is great. I ate everything because it was all so good. The starter platter was amazing

Had the privilege of being taken here for a special occasion, parking was safe and secure, manager met us at the door and welcomed us into the establishment. Waiters were excellent and smartly dressed. Tables and cutlery were of high quality. They had a huge variety of dishes to choose from and the food was devine✨🌟✨ Price was very reasonable, I would definitely visit here again.
Rob Leal
The most amazing curry. Delicious!! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is due to the building and renovations happening around the restaurant (not their fault).
Nicci Blue
Always excellent food, great value for money and consistent good service.
Graeme Scala
Delicious dinner as usual and good service too. Always a favourite and trusted option.
Quentin Sussman
For curry UNBEATABLE. REALLY good food, friendly and efficient service, pleasant atmosphere and very good value. Highly recommended. We had lamb korma which was not too hot and very tasty. Management was attentive but not intrusive
Our favourite Indian spot in Johannesburg. There is always great service and amazing spicy food! Their curries are to die for with my favourite garlic naan bread.
Mark Crozier
The service was great to begin with even though we went on New Year's Eve and the place was closing early. We ordered starters, including chicken samoosas and what I think were supposed to be chilli bites. Both were quite tasty although neither had any form of chilli in them, so were a bit bland for Indian food. The samoosa was also made very differently from what we were used to (Durban-style), with quite thick pastry. In my view, a samoosa should have thin, crispy pastry and have been pulled fresh from the hot oil minutes before being served.

For mains we ordered tandoori chicken with fries for myself and my wife tried the chicken in coconut and cumin sauce. Both were great although my tandoori chicken was like eating fire (my fault, I should have opted for a medium heat) so I could only manage half. We had a great time but when the bill arrived the price of drinks spoiled the experience. R32 for a Windhoek Light?! Seriously? Come on, restaurant owners, people are tired of getting soaked for their drinks. And let's lose that corkage charge shall we? I can tell that in future we will be picking restaurants that DON'T charge corkage.

That said, when we are really lusting after some curry in mid-winter I may well give it another try but won't be ordering any beers, that's for sure.
Christine Buchanan
Still the best curry in Joburg if not in Mzansi! I had an excellent Chicken Korma and my companion was more than satisfied with his Lamb Keema Masala. Service was excellent as always. Feels like coming home and Ghazal Bryanston never fails to satisfy.
Raman Singh
OK but still not great. A big improvement on a couple of months ago when the curries were very salty and short on meat. Starters are decent though.
Vanessa
This is by far my favourite restaurant in jozi! The food is, without fail, always tasty and delicious. I love Indian food and the food at ghazals maintains it's standard whether we're getting take outs or dining at the restaurant.
Steve S
This was the second time I had been to Ghazals, but the first time with my partner. Very relaxed atmosphere and ambience. We both ordered the prawn masala mine hot and my partners mild with some garlic naan bread. The food was delcious and the taste of the masala sauce complimented the prawns admirably with the various spices mixed with the coconut milk flavouring.

For dessert we shared a warm chocolate brownie smothered with chocolate sauce and a portion of ice cream. My partners comment was that it was the best chocolate brownie she had ever tasted.

Authentic indian food at authentic prices with an excellent dessert very reasonably priced as well.

I would recommend anyone who wants to experience great indian food to try Ghazals.
Pei-Lin Chen
This is my other curry place. It’s a fancy Indian restaurant and the food is yummy, pricey and very typical of a fancy Indian restaurant. The garlic is so yummy you probably won’t want to share it.
Mmule
So Ghazal snuck up on us and has been a favorite since. We usually order take away and it’s as good as being in the restaurant! The vegetarian rice is to die for yummm! Also the briyani is top class wow!
Lani Smith
Love this place! Best Indian food I have ever had, every time great service and friendly staff. Price is worth the food quality and quantity. Personally recommend the lamb Korma with a bottle of wine and naan bread. #heaven
Peter Mourinho
There are no words for how good the food is here, my favourite Indian restaurant in Joburg. Lamb Korma and the naan bread are amazing!! I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed.
The Schoeman Brothers
What amazing Indian food! Ghazal gives you delicious and authentic Indian food and I love getting takeaways. The decoration is amazing and the ambiance is cozy and comforting. I have only had takeaways but have been inside and my parents have been here before. Definitely recommend it.
Carmen Purkiss
Always love the food at Ghazal’s. Amazing Curry’s and they are not shy on the heat when you ask for it. A good favourite is a hot chicken korma with garlic naan. You won’t be disappointed
Lavi Singla
This is one of the best Indian resturant in sandton area. Food was very nice and atmosphere is also good. Service was also good and staff was polite.
I will love to visit again.
Lisa Lumley
The best curry in Johannesburg.

We ordered the Chicken Makhne, Lamb Korma and garlic naan, which was all delicious. The curries could have however been a bit spicier considering we ordered them medium.

Great service and great food! I can’t wait to come back here.
Pmentis
We've always enjoyed the food here, but specifically also wanted to send a big thanks to Stanley the manager who went out of his way to help us.
Caroline
I haven’t been able to match their authentic Indian cuisine at any other restaurant. I have been there many times and any curry I have tried is so tasty, paired with jasmine rice and garlic naan. The service is good too.
Glen Tomlinson
This is a very unfair review because I have eaten here for ever and I love their food. Their curries have been consistently good over the years but recently two escalating curry crimes are being committed:

1. Fat and flabby naan breads are coming out of the oven. If I want bread, I order bunny chow.

2. Sugar is being thrown into dishes which has no place for sugar other than the sweetness of ingredients sweated down like onion. The usually flavourful Bhuna Gohst tonight was truly awful - in the way that a somoosa store collides with a candy floss stand at a school fundraising fete.

Come on. Your curries were great.

JuicyLucy
We always enjoy both getting take-aways and eating at Ghazal. I have loved everything on their menu but my favourite is the lamb briyani. My husband loves the chicken korma. The garlic naan is just out of this world! The waiters are attentive and our food is prepared in a decent amount of time.
Candice
After just getting home with take-always from Ghazal, I saw that the main dish I ordered was wrong. I wanted vegetables not paneer, and it was neon orange/red 😳 The food was tasty, but so disappointing to get the wrong thing. And the onion bhajis are not made how I've had them at any other Indian restaurant I've ever been to and they are really awful, doughy balls instead of delicious crispy onion pieces. I won't be going back.
Iolanda Pisetta
I can't believe I haven't rated this restaurant yet!I think Ghazal has become such an ingrained part of my meals that I've taken them for granted! We either order and pick up or visit the restart itself.Either way,it's always a pleasant experience!Great service, and it's always such a pleasure trying out any of their dishes. They never disappoint!!They have found the perfect balance in the use of spice, cooking time and quality of the use of their ingredients is always of a high standard. Some of my favorites include Paneer Makhnie,Chicken Makhnie,Lamb Curry,Butter/Plain Naan and I just LOVE their Masala Tea!!They ran out of take-away cups but still made a plan to get some from one of the other restaurants-commitment to helping their customers,no matter what. Thanks a million guys,we love everything about you!!

This is my favorite North Indian restaurant. I have dined here many times & celebrated many special moments at Ghazal Bryanston.
It's an intimate, cosy restaurant with a lovely ambience. The management and staff are always welcoming and friendly. The menu offers a variety of veg and non veg items for starters and mains. There are some staple traditional Indian deserts and the desert menu , although limited , is more than adequate after you have indulged in starters and mains. We have sampled many dishes here over the years- everything is freshly prepared, well presented, tasty & piping hot at the table at your requested spice level. This specific restaurant is so popular that it is usually full even during the week. Advanced booked is advised
Karabo Phogole
Honestly one of the best Chicken Khorma meals I've had the sauce is amazing and the naan bread complimented the meal so beautifully. And the take away service was efficient.
Mayuri
Amazing curries. We ordered the paneer makhani and korma and it was absolutely delicious. Ghazal Sunninghill really needs to take a page out of this branch.
Chelcie Barnard
The best curry in Joburg as far as I am concerned. The decor has been the same for years now but still works. The food is consistently great and wine selection is not by bad either. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
Food Lover Deluxe
This once excellent restaurant disappoints more and more with each visit, especially the service. My last visit consisted mostly of trying to attract the waiters' attention, in a fairly empty restaurant, for pretty average food.
Mark
Just awesome. Ghazal is consistently great and a firm favourite. My go-to dish is the Dhal Makenhie - not found another one to match in all of Joburg. Please enjoy it with a fresh garlic naan. You're life will be richer for it.
Nseula Chili Chilikhuma
Best curry ever. Lovely ambience, maybe not the most meat in the lamb curry but not too hot but still spicy enough to enjoy the curry at its best
Junior
I looked forward to trying this place out on Good Friday as it had been highly recommended. It was a bit too chilly out so we decided to order for pick up.

The food was amazing, fresh garlic naan and an amazing chicken biryani. The quality was really high up. My reason for the low rating is that a piece of cable jacket somehow made its way into the biryani (which I initially thought could be some herb). Unfortunately that tainted the whole experience for me.
Anél Fourie
Wow! As big fans of Indian Cuisine, we were not expecting to be blown away. We were delightfully surprised by the heaps of flavour in every dish. The Garlic Naan is to die for and is covered in fresh herbs. We sampled the Chicken Makhnie, Lamb Ghost Badame, Chicken Korma and Chicken Tikka Masala. All were amazing. Decor is subpar, but the wine list is ok. Just a pity the drive is a bit far from Pretoria, also a bit more price than similar restaurants in our area
Fareed Hare
Good indian food - almost 100% authentic. I think they use too much tomato is their dishes - I get the feeling that they use a tomato base for everything.

There is is mot really hot but a meal with them will be ok. I like the roti rolls - I ordered it on more than one occasion, they are very generous with the amount of meat and chicken used in the roti rolls.
Himesh Mistry
Dingy little place for a reason. The kitchen kicks out flavour packed dishes with Raja size portions. Whether you eat in or take out, this place has its operations flowing like clockwork. Love it. Never disappoints. J's in Sandton is the sister company.
Indy
This is a great restaurant. Excellent. Food, service, vibe. Always excellent. Always return there for the makhnie dishes - dal, paneer. Onion badjia fantastic. Music choice always perfect.
Diederik Van 't Hof
Stopped for an after-work drink and snack. While wondering (and wandering) amongst the tables on the sidewalk, I was welcomed by the manager and shown to a table. Drinks were delivered and starters ordered. We only had the starter platters for 1 - and they were excellent. Lots of flavour, nice variety of goodies.

It was enough to make me make a note to come here for a full meal. On first impressions - my ratings likely to go up.
The Great Diner
What a let down. The tandoori tasted and smelled smoked, and not tandoor. The lamb vindaloo was sweet, which is totally opposite of what a Goan favourite is supposed to taste like. The naan bread was terrible. The yeast smell was so strong, I was sure that it wasn't even knead in. So disappointed.
Tam Loves Food
A lovely atmosphere and good food. I found the portions very generous and the naan delicious. The rice that accompanied the curries wasn't the most appetizing though. The dessert menu also included some non-indian desserts which I was happy about.

Every day is curry day for me lately ...

Had a quick early bite today at Ghazal .
Tried their Chicken kadai and Jeera rice ;
Prawn masala with plain basmati rice

I wasn't so blown away by the quality of their food compared to other Indian restaurants I highly recommend.

The food was just good enough ... Chicken Kadai was served Luke warn had to ask for it to be reheated .

Overall the dishes were okay but nothing to write home about ! I have definitely tasted better Indian dishes .

The medium spicy was too mild for me lacked the kick! If I knew I would have opted for hot .

The restaurant is alright outside area is lovely in the afternoon .
Service --- the waiters lacked some energy for me let's blame it on the heat .... They don't say much about their dishes recommendations or what so ever .

I wouldn't be in a hurry to go back

We came to the Ghazal restaurant in Bryanston for an Early dinner on Monday 2nd January 2017.

We were the first table to sit down for a dinner at the restaurant and were looking forward to a great dinner. Needless to say this did not happen.

Our drinks arrived promptly which was fine and our waiter was polite, no problems there. Our starters arrived, ( the platter for one) we ordered two to share between the four of us, the food was dry and bland.

We put this behind us in the anticipation of ordering a great curry to make up for this. After approx. an hour our curries had not arrived. I went to the managers to notify them of this, I was firstly asked if I was there for a take away which I replied ' we may as well have been as our food had not arrived after an hour'. Secondly they had obviously not taken notice of where we were seated. We do not expect royal treatment please dont get me wrong, but considering we were one of about 5 tables at this point, I don't find this to be a difficult thing. Having alerted the managers, I was assured that the managers would follow this up.

On my way back to our table I noticed one of the managers following me and as I sat down he said it's coming, I remarked to this with frustration given the situation and length of time we had been waiting for our food, to which he turned to our table and rudely raised his voice to me saying 'We have four chefs attending to your food sir, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT ME TO DO??!!' as he walked away I noticed him shaking his head at me.

Shortly after this the curries arrived and the other manager approached us and apologised for the delay and said that staff had not shown up due to the public holiday, so which story do we go with? Lots of staff attending to us or lack of staff??

Now I do believe, firstly, that in the hospitality and retail industry, customers come first, secondly, to have been spoken to like that after our food has taken so long and we are paying the prices we are, I think this is HIGHLY unacceptable. Further, to add to this I noticed that this particular manager who confronted me, was pouring a beer possibly for himself as it seemed like he was placing it under the top shelf of the booking sheet cabinet at the front of house greeting area. (This manager is the taller one with black hair and has a Yugoslavian/Eastern European sounding accent).

We often come to Ghazal and have enjoyed ourselves. However, following this incident we shall not be back.

Jan 23 dinner: Highest rated restaurant in Johannesburg on Zomato - had to try this one. The restaurant is quite big and the ambience is just right. We were the only Indians and the place was full of local South Africans. So, in my mind, I was a bit skeptical. But my doubts were gone once the food came. The chicken tikka and veg samosas were really good. The samosas were not too oily and the filling (masala) was tasty. For the mains, we ordered the Paneer Masala and Garlic Naan. The Garic Naan was just too good - never had a naan so soft and delicious - a must have with your food. The Paneer Masala was spicy and very flavoursome. The service was attentive and good. Overall, though not sure if this is the best place to have Indian food but it is one of the best restaurant for Indian food, for sure.
FoodloverJHB
Went for dinner at Ghazal and I was so impressed, as I have tried various Indian establishments, but this one has great tasting food.

We had the chicken madras and the chicken korma, both were absolutely great. I especially love the korma for a bit of a sweeter dish. But the madras is so tasteful. The butter naan was also a great add-on and delicious.

The wine list was okay, with quite a good selection, but a bit on the pricey side.
FoodiewhippedSA
This place use to be my favourite Indian place to dine... but I'm really not sure what happened.

The standard just dropped. We ordered a few times to give it the benefit of doubt. But honestly the food was not tasty at all. It lost all flavour.

I was very disappointed.
KarmaZebra
Gustatory Poetry 🎶! Beautiful tastes, textures and temperatures...from tikka to tandoori, the food is flawless. With a bit more attention to service and ambience (compared with other Indian restaurants) this could be a five star experience ⭐️
Jean Pretorius
Went there last night for the 1st time. Phoned at 20H30 to book a table for 6 people. No problem. Great service, great food. All in all a good experience. Will definitely be back.
Kuvanya Pillay
The best chicken tikka I have had in Johannesburg. The dhall fry and naan never fails. I wouldn't recommend getting take out as this food is best served sizzling and fresh!! Although the prices can be a bit steep, the food and ambiance is on point!
Ann R
Slow service and a RACIST manager. Still shocked that you an not pay your waiters a decent minimum wage and when they give slow service you force a customer to give a 10%tip. The manager insisted it is a mandatory tip and not a discretionary tip else waiters won't work for them!!!
Shame on you for your nasty racist attack against Indian people who support this restaurant.

Will never eat here again
Darren Ford
Fantastic northern curries, Fist time trying this place and it was a pleasant surprise! Food was great and service was friendly!

Enjoyed sitting outside! Waiter was pleasant! They also ask you if you want it JHB HOT OR durban hot! :)
Lauras World
Last night, I sampled the Lamb Jai Frazi here with garlic naan.

Sadly, I struggle with Ghazal to justify paying the prices that they charge (I am guessing they are on the high side due to their expensive location) and I do not feel as if I am getting anything extra or particularly special than I would from my regular local indian spots (that are much cheaper). I didn't finish my lamb curry on this occasion because I found the meat just too tough.

However, the service was decent and we enjoyed our quiet evening tucked away in the corner here.

*Recommendation: Would I go back? Probably not.
Emily Smith
Definitely the best Northern Indian curries around. My boyfriend and I frequent this Ghazal for takeaways and sit down meals and we are always thoroughly satisfied. My favourite curry is the makhani which I usually have with chicken or paneer. The chicken is always supremely tender and the paneer cheese is absolutely delicious, paired with the rich buttery, tomato makhani sauce it is an absolute dream.
Megan Fisher
The service was super attentive and the korma simply delicious, be it chicken or paneer korma!
I wasn't the biggest fan of the butter naan but the Korma was almost great enough to overlook it entirely. We had a wonderful evening out with friends at Ghazal's but one thing to note is that it's a little on the pricey side
Khanjan Patel
Ghazal was my first Indian restaurant in SA and it did surprise me to see such good Indian food there.
The food was above average and so was the service and ambience..
Tey Carter
The food is delicious and very generous portions. It is a little pricey but it's worth it. The ambiance is ok and when we went it was quite busy.
The shop was warm, and they had us packed tightly over a very small table.
Owen Tennant
Felt like a curry place for Sunday lunch and went back to Ghazal , not as busy as I thought it would be , classy style with superb service , meal very tasty , I rated the best Indian eat house , not sure any more ? Might have slipped a little in terms of taste 😕
Claire Frost
I love the atmosphere here - sitting in the booths is really nice in winter. The lamb somoosas were delicious. The tandoori fish was very good with big juicy chunks. The medium dhal and the medium curry was very very mild - no heat at all which was disappointing. The balti chicken was unbelievably sweet and to be honest, inedible. Baltis should have the natural sweetness of the nuts they are cooked with, so really not great. Our waiter was distracted and kept wanting to clear our plates. I won't be back in a hurry - pity, it used to be great.
The SA Food Guru
After hearing only good things about this Indian restaurant in Peter Place, I decided to come here on a Friday night.

The place was packed and had a great lively atmosphere. It was rather dimly lit (hence the lack of photos for this review) and we were seated on the enclosed patio. Luckily there were some gas heaters around to fight the winter chill.

Their menu is diverse with a large selection of favourite Indian dishes.

We tried some chicken and lamb samosas to start - not made in the conventional triangular shape and deep fried style, they seemed to be baked and looked like little pyramids. The fillings were good, but I personally prefer the more traditional style samosa.

For mains we had tandoor chicken, chicken madras, chicken tikka and also kingklip curries. The tandoori was enormous - even though it was a half portion. It tasted fantastic too. I loved the madras - perfectly spicy and a very hearty dish for winter. Both the other curries were flavorful and generously sized.

The cucumber raita was a bit disappointing, as it was way too runny. I also though the garlic naan could do with a bit more garlic.

Our waiter, Douglas, was by far one of the most attentive servers I've ever met in Joburg - very impressed with his service!

I'd suggest making a booking if you plan to visit on a weekend evening.

FYI, their wine list is very reasonably priced.
Andre John Van Niekerk
This is my home away from home!!!!

Service - FANTASTIC
Food - AMAZING
Overall Ambiance - Inviting

I have been frequenting this place for a few years and they never fail to deliver. My mother came and visited from CT and this was my #1 choice to show her that i am okay in the Big City! And she similarly fell in-love with the place - she asked why they don't have one in CT?! (#justsaying).

Some of my favourites:
Chicken Samoosas
Chicken Korma - my all time favourite
Lamb Vindaloo
Paneer Makhnie (when i'm feeling a little veggie)
Garlic OR Butter Naan.

I can wax lyrical about this place for hours, but just do yourself a favour and go have a taste!
Lara Kerbelker
Had the butter chicken, my usual favorite. Unfortunately it was slightly sweet, which I didn't like. In fairness to Ghazal, they do warn you about it on their menu, but if you're going for the butter chicken, go elsewhere.

Not sure if they can do it without the sweetness, but it would be great if they could, because apart from that the meal and the ambiance were lovely.
Saltnsas
I've been coming to Ghazal's for many years and their food never disappoints. One of my favourite Indian restaurants. Huge portions at reasonable prices and friendly service. My best dishes are the Paneer Tikka and Chicken Biryani. Definitely a must try in my opinion.
Bene Katabua
One of my favourites! I first came here for my graduation dinner and I fell in love with Indian cuisine. The service is great, with staff who are courteous and friendly all night long, even with large groups. I like the ambience, it's calming and creates a good vibe. The food is always tops! My favourite being their peshawari naan, any korma or madras curry with a virgin daquairi. Yesss. So good! I really can't fault them. They set a high standard...
Shumaiz Hashim A.P.M
Ambience in this restaurant was very warm n nice with Indian music to balance the food.service was great and the food was just OK,don't know why all these restaurants use a lot color and taste makers like ajinomoto.
Esther Shaidi
I'm not a huge fan of Indian food due to health reasons but Ghazal just might change my mind. The food was full of flavor and arrived at the table inviting you to dig in to the buttery naan bread and chicken madras. I didn't hear of any complaints from the table. The portions are generous and service was good.
Yolisa
I lived in Durban for 5 years so I know good Curry. They have a great variety of Indian food. I live down the road from Ghazal and it is one of my fav indian spots in Johannesburg so I enjoy lot of it . I love their mutton korma, the cashew sauce is thick n creamy. Definitely worth a try, you can have the chicken option if mutton is not your thing.
Jarrod Michael-Sylar Prinsloo-Bluth
Great atmosphere and the service is fantastic. The lamb korma is incredible (my partner thought it was to sweet). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a great authentic Indian restaurant.
Shriram P Nene
Ambiance: Excellent
Food Quantity: Sucked
Food Quality: Average
Taste: Pathetic and it's definitely not close to Indian cuisine
Value for Money: Big Time NO
Definitely very expensive
Nishela Ramgoolam
The food at Ghazal is always a crowd pleaser. The portions are generous enough to share. Favorites include the chicken tikka, chicken makhnie, lamb bhuna gosht, usually accompanied by the garlic naan. The service is good.
Rhonda Hamilton
Fabulous food! Excellent service!
I love trying a new dish and discovering new favourites. Ghazal's atmosphere is very pleasant, especially sitting outside in summer. The food is always of a excellent quality and the prices reflect it.
Anandie
I am a big fan of Indian food with great flavours.
I recently discovered Ghazal's which is just an amazing spot in Coachman's Crossing. With excellent food, great wine options and our waiter for the evening, Douglas, is an absolute gem!
Enjoy some of the starter options, and then I would always recommend the curry dishes.
Anandie
A lovely spot in Coachman's Crossing where the vibe is very nice. You can sit inside or outside.
The food is truly fantastic with amazing flavours and tastes.
Our waiter for the evening, Douglas was absolutely amazing.
Try the samoosas with fresh lemon for a starter and any of the curry dishes for mains. The portions are very generous.
My favourite is Butter Chicken, or Mahknie.
Klee Barris
After a tough week, there is nothing better than Friday night take out. To satisfy the cravings for complex, lush Indian curry, it had to be Ghazal.

Their takeaway menu smaller
than their sit down menu but still jam packed.

For starters their Onion Badjia (6 for R 29) are pop in your mouth moreish.

Selecting mains is challenging because there is a wide variety, all with their own merits.

Drop the mic incredible is their Chicken Tikka (8 pieces for R 79). The chicken is succulent, melt in your mouth, and spiced to perfection.

Other notables; are their creamy vegetable Navrattan curry (R 89) and their warm Lamb Vindaloo (R 98). Both rich in flavor and satisfying. In conjunction with generous portions, all mains are served with basmati rice sides.

When collecting my order the fragrant restaurant was vibrant ; with a lovely outdoor area. I'm looking forward to going back.

#❤️myhood

Best curry place I have tried in Jhb. Tikka masala worth a try. Always busy which is a sign that they are getting the formula right. Classy ambience and is nice to sit outside even though one gets a view of parking lot.

LOVE this restaurant! From the proper samoosa and chilli bites starters to delicious & very filling mains (we love the chicken makhnie). Try the Peshwari Naan its delicious. The only down side is their desserts but hey who has any space for dessert after that amazing food!

On a Sunday evening, when you're home alone, there's nothing less that you want to do than cook and your certainly do not want to wake up on a Monday morning with a McDonalds/Steers/Debonaires hangover so I decided to try the Ghazal takeout menu.

I must say there is a large variety of Indian dishes on both the takeout and in house menu which was an absolute treat as most Indian restaurants I go to don't have much to offer. I tried the chicken makhnie with rice and naan. The service was super quick, taking under 10 mins to prepare and the food was super good. There were no overwhelming flavours and the food portion was an absolute bargain for the R89 that you are paying.

If you craving Indian cuisine and don't have much time, shy away from those Indian fast food restaurant you find in the food courts of malls and give Ghazal a go. Good quality and large portioned food at a decent price and really quick service.

Amazing food. Amazing service. One of the best eating experiences of 2015. Their garlic naan and seafood curries are the effin bomb. The ambience is just a bit dated, if they made it more modern they'd draw in more off a younger crowd.

Probably the best indian food you'll find in SA. This place has been around for ages and its built a solid reputation!

Its just as good as the first time I went there 10 years ago. Had some lamb korma and a chicken tikka masla. The garlic naan bread is a must to dip into the yummy tikka chiken sauce.

Its cool. Just do it.
Ghazal's was by far one of the best experiences. I went last night for a quick bite to eat with Andrew Blane and I would have to say their curry's & naan bread is phenomenal! Not really the hot curry type so opted for the mild butter chicken & coconut naan. Great value for money for a large portion and also a beautiful set up for a quite dinner for a date or family. Will definitely be going back!

I've been dying to visit ghazal for months. It had been almost six months since my last visit.. The atmosphere during the day, does not compare to the beautiful ambiance I experienced a few months ago, at night ..

I can't say that I was impressed with this acclaimed authentic Indian food .. It had the same taste and flavor as most north indian restaurants do, but was missing that special touch to the food. Overall It was average but good.

This is the best Indian food I have eaten.
The curry is superlative and the breads sublime.
We loved it and the friendly happy staff just added to the great time.
Can't wait to go back.

Another excellent meal and celebration at my Friend Rasnil's favourite Restaurant. If anything absence has made the heart grow fonder.

I had the chicken bhuna and he had his favourite dish - paneer makhani.

The food was terrific as always - a very good standard. I thought it actually tasted better than before. Maybe it was my imagination, maybe it really was better!

This place is a little gem. Cozy atmosphere, friendly service and really great curry. Reasonably priced given quality. We are definitely going back for more!

Whether you order a take away, or go sit down in the restaurant, Ghazal's never let's you down. Their Chicken Makhnie has the perfect blend between sweet and spicy and is impeccably tender. All curries are perfectly complimented by their garlic naan.

By far the greatest Indian in Johannesburg. I have never had a bad meal there. The food is always perfectly cooked and has an authentic yet delicious taste.

I recommend ordering the Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan on the side.
They also have unique lamb samosas which are untouchable when compared to any others, even those at the oriental plaza!

No doubt, my favourite Indian restaurant in Jozi! After moving to Jozi, It took a while to find a great Indian place, finally we found Ghazal. The food is fantastic and after MANY visits, we are still yet to receive anything less than excellent. The service is great; friendly and efficient. I usually get the chicken madras with garlic naan and my husband often goes for the lamb vindaloo. Both are delicious. If you are a lover of traditional Indian food then a visit is a must.
Melissa Press
My favorite Indian restaurant. Totally mad about there chicken vindaloo as it is extremely hot and tasty. The korma is also one of our regulars although everything I have tired there is great. The tandoori chicken is so soft and tasty and the portions are huge.
I drove all the way from Albertsdal to visit this restaurant... It was worth every single kilometer. The food was amazing, the service was brilliant, and the wine list was very well stocked. I would definitely go back again.
The Food Musketeer
As the closest restaurant to our work serving halaal meals this was the popular go to spot. Any celebrations we had we had we would book here. The food was always good, fresh and extremely tasty be it chicken or mutton. Slightly different to the usual Indian food. I found it to be a bit on the sweet side but always enjoyed my meals here with the naan/rotis and the portion sizes were reasonable.

Lovely Indian restaurant with a lovely vibe. Nice interior and the food is good! I usually get the Chicken Makhnie which is a Butter Chicken with additional Naan Bread. Portions are big enough for 2 persons to share if you are not that hungry.

Ghazal is definitely my favourite Indian restaurant. I am in love with their chicken korma. I'm not one of those people who sticks to one thing on the menu, unless I'm at Ghazal. The service is always great and everyone at the table has always enjoyed their meals.

Ghazal is a good restaurant if you like the food here then you should try Thava in Norwood, you might like this restaurant even more. I have been to both on more than one occasion and found the food at Thava much more authentic.

Hands down the best Indian food I have had in Johannesburg. If you want an Indian cheat meal, this is the place worth coming to. Every dish is delicious, the dining experience in the restaurant is authentic, and the service is efficient.

I have seen a few people proclaim that Ghazal is the best Indian restaurant in Joburg, I can assure you it most certainly is not! Ghazal seems to be catering more for a Western palate, as their dishes can hardly be considered to be authentically Indian. Personally I find their curries to be sweet, and if you order a "hot" curry, all they do is stir in some chopped chillies into the mild version. Their curries simply lack the depth of flavour which is so characteristic of Indian cuisine

With that said, there are a few dishes which they do particularly well, such as bombay potato curry and vegetable briyani. They're fine for the occasional takeaway but there are far better Indian restaurants to be found in Joburg.

Best curry in Johannesburg!! My husband and I will often get takeaways from here. The restaurant is beautiful too and they have a wonderful wine list.

Highly recommend the naan bread- either butter or garlic. So delicious to mop up all the curry sauce with.

All the curries we have had are good. We love spicy food so we order our curries "hot". The vegetarian curries are a must try- even for meat eaters!

My wife and I go here regularly. Food has always been superb. Spoil yourself and order the chicken risme kebab for a starter. It is magnificent
MJ
Incredible Indian food! Delicious Chicken Tikka (non sauce, dry style) and Masala. Naan bread great too. Curries a bit too creamy for my taste but good flavour. I would say overpriced but it is Bryanston after all

Finally did try Ghazal. The restaurant is in a great spot. We went there for the first to get some take aways. The staff was very friendly, they even made us feel like we made the right decision. The food wasn't as great as I expected. The lamb was a bit too sweet for my liking. I didn't get the flavours I was hoping for. Maybe I ordered the wrong meal this time. I guess I will try it again next time.

Probably the best Indian food I've ever eaten. I'm not a big fan of very hot food but Ghazal has the best curries which actually don't set me on fire. The food is extremely tasty and service is wonderful and I always enjoy eating here. It's also great for a date :P

I always go to Ghazals for Indian, especially to get their chicken Korma, it is my absolute fav after trying many different Indian restaurants. I ordered takeout for collection tonight and was very friendly welcomed inside by a guy named TJ. After me collecting my order and commenting on how it's my favorite place to get Indian, he said just hold on one second. He invited me over to a secluded table where he had brought me tasters of the chicken tikka masala and he said I just had to try it! Was so surprised, it was such a lovely gesture and of course it was delicious 😀 such good service and experience!

Ghazal never fails to impress!

The service is efficient and attentive without being intrusive.

The quality of the food is exceptional!

If you enjoy your Indian spicy, opt for the 'hot' option, it isn't too bad at all. Think Sandton hot, not Durban hot.
Michelle Brink
My absolute favourite curry spot. They never let me down. The food is aromatic, flavour-filled and of generous portions. It's my go to when I don't feel like cooking, and is such a saviour when you have a dinner party and loadshedding hits. Don't forget to order some buttery naan to scoop your curry sauce!
Anne Dolinschek
Last night the S.O took me to Ghazal for my birthday dinner. I don't often eat Indian cuisine but I favour Ghazal when I do. The food has a lot of flavour and they are really good at making it as hot or mild as what you prefer. And most importantly to me there's a lot of veggie options.

This branch is particularly nice. The ambience is light and inviting while the wait staff are friendly, funny and unobtrusive.

The traditional Indian music playing in the background also adds to your dining experience.

I desperately wanted to have the potato dish I had on a previous occasion but couldn't remember what it was and as there are loads of potato dishes on the menu, I chose the wrong one! But it was delicious any way. I decided that I will work my through them all to find the one I was looking for going forward.
Their veggie samosas are some of my favourites! You have to try them.
The man had a vindaloo which he really enjoyed.

You can't go wrong dining here. I give it two thumbs up.
