Review Six Cocktail Bar - Johannesburg

Went there for drinks and vibes. The service was exceptional. Their cocktails were done to perfection and I give the waitress (Praise) a 10/10, she really took care of us and ensured we were good.

My partner and I loved it so much that we even decided to go back for the second time. It is beautiful, good music and they serve great food and cocktails. Their Pizzas😍, too good.

What a beautiful spot. Clean place, great service, delicious food, a wide variety of delectable cocktails, plus they have a happy hour from 11a.m to 19h00 where buy one cocktail and get another one for free. I got a complimentary cocktail for my birthday on top of that...I had a great time there.

What an amazing place to meet up and chill after work, or after a long day, as well as to unwind with friends... The staff is friendly, the cocktails are to die for, and the vibe is excellent, lovely atmosphere chilled, great music, and a great place for a night out...

From the time you step into the establishment, you’re greeted by a nice wide open seating space and the vibe automatically sets you up to enjoy your evening! From 11am - 7pm every day, all cocktails are buy one and get the same ordered free - who doesn’t like a freebie alcoholic drink (hint: try the gentleman jack) Had a pizza - Perfect Size! Perfect Base! Perfect Toppings! Perfection! My mate had the Mozambican Peri Peri Wings and Chips - he said the best in town! Their food is on point! Service can be a mixture between fast and slow, however you’d hardly notice because you’ll be having a gas listening to the music, which by the way is a jukebox, so you control what you wanna listen to (R5 a song) - depends on which side you’re sitting! Fun establishment to hang with your mates or girlfriend’s - chilled vibe - mixture crowd - diverse, young and mature!

A nice bar with a good environment and settings. They sell all range of drinks including Monktail and the likes. Nice music playing and experienced a nice stand-up comedy show featuring different comedians.

This place definitely has the best cocktails in Johannesburg! Very friendly staff members, always making me feel welcome. The food and service is also great! One of the few restaurants in Johannesburg with cocktail special of which Six Cocktail Bar’s special is from 11:00 to 19:00 EVERY SINGLE DAY! Ella and Maurice (Morris) are definitely the best and fastest bartenders I’ve ever seen. Shoutout to them, thank you for the good service!

Absolutely loved the Food and Drinks at sixes yesterday. Shoutout to our waiter for making our experience there a delightful one. Absolutely loved Caitlin’s energy and vibes!!! Definitely going back there soon.

The vibe, decor snd food was great! The waitress was very cool and made a lot of helpful suggestions with regards to the cocktail and food menu! Lovely large cocktail menu with an awesome cocktail special! Would definitely recommend this place for young couples or groups!

For the second night in a row I found myself here. Today after the food wine pairing at UJ my partner was still hungry so we ordered what we thought would be a safe option. Like how bad can spag bog be.... it was awful the sauce was sweet and not flavorful we complained to our waiter who called the manager despite all 5 of us at the table finding the dish offensive we were told it is thé preordered sauce that is sweet and basically too bad. We were not offered an apology, we were not offered a replacement we were basically told it is what it is so pay for something no one wanted to eat. As is clear from the picture the pasta was consumed and all the sauce left. The manager went as far as to say add salt and chilli. When we asked her to do so and eat it she declined!! What a wow of how not to win friends influence people or treat repeat customers

Love love this place. The staff is very friendly. The place itself is just wonderful and has a free spirited feeling around it. I particularly loved our bartender, she was super nice and friendly. Would recommend it for a night out or even for groups. Very nice place.

Man, this place is just awesome. The vibe and music really put a smile on your face and it always feels like everyone there is having a good time. Ordering a cocktail is a no-brainer, especially during happy hour. Try the Old Fashioned, I promise you won't be disappointed. The pizzas are great too! Overall great experience and good value for money, even if you're a broke student.

You haven’t experienced Melville until you’ve been to 6cocktails. What a place!!! They have every kind of cocktail you can imagine. The vibe is great. Definitely one of my favorites spots!

This place is an absolute gem with immaculate positioning in the student hub that is Melville. Came here for my friend’s graduation lunch and we were nothing but impressed. The specials on pizzas and cocktails meant we over exhausted our appetites and left well and truly satisfied. The waiter was also very knowledgable and was quick to suggest foods and drinks.<br/><br/>To many more celebrations here.

A friend of mine was told to leave this restaurant by the manager.  She had done nothing wrong and had recommended this restaurant to a bunch of friends which she had brought with her.  Manager did not want her custom.  Perhaps others should take theirs elsewhere as well.

I absolutely love this place. The vibe and service are great!! Tried multiple cocktails, and they were all so tasty, especially the Patron Frappe... The rum runner should be had at ones own risk.<br/><br/>Will definitely be coming back

So whilst walking on the streets of Melville, we spotted the happy hour 12 to 7pm sign and ran straight in. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the drinks and food. For R60, I had 2 gin cocktails. Wow! The veg platter tapa and pizza we had were both delicious. Service is fantastic. Reason for 4 star is that the owner came by and the ambience of the place changed. He was shouting at staff and I felt that was disrespectful to patrons as we are supporting that same owner's business. The staff were very attentive but I fear standards will drop due to this fear of top management. If that could change, this place would be a return go to spot for me.

The food was delicious. They have a special on cocktails, buy one get one free which ensures you stay there for a long while. We ordered a couple of cocktails and they were very good. Since it was my birthday we received complimentary shots. I was happy to see that they were willing to accommodate one of my friends who was not a drinker by giving her a shot of passionfruit and lemonade. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and look forward to going again :)

Another great place with amazing drinks and good food. Their drink selection is huge! You won’t get bored with selection of drinks. The nice thing about this place is the specials of “Buy One, Get One Free.” The food isn’t bad.

This is one of my favorite spots in Melville, the deco and the relaxed ambiance makes it a perfect spot for a night out for cocktail and delicious bites. Definitely one of my favorites spots.

Depending on the night of the week, this place is usually a turn up. It has become one of the popular spots in Melville for a weekend party vibe.Cannot really comment on the food menu but the drinks are good and the vibe does the rest :)

Sixes is a great place for drinks and catching up with your friends, they have lovely happy hour specials and the best Nachos in Melville 😋😋 the music that they place at this place🔥🔥 what a vibe I tell you. The service is just fine, can't really complain. Oh this place can get very crowded so go there prepared.

Definitely one of my all time favourite cocktails bars. My friends & I can come here every week without a second thought. They have a very wide selection of cocktails, along with good food that fits the chilled vibe of the place. They also have the best nachos I've ever had & they never get them wrong without fail. <br/>The service is always on par & the waiters never fail to check on you, advise on drinks & treat you well. I would go here everytime from University early evening last year. hadn't been to this spot in a few years. The vibe was fantastic and the service was friendly. Worst service ever!! If I ask for a monitor can I get a mojito and not some zambuca posing as a mojito. The worst pasty is the stupid manage has the nerve to insult my intelligence and tell me it's chemical reaction. My a**!!!

Such a fun, easy going spot for delicious drinks and tasty treats! Staff are friendly. Love the vibe and the colours around the place! Seating is a little unfriendly but nonetheless, all that matters is the food and the company!

I always enjoy the cocktails at Six as well as the atmosphere. The food is good and prices reasonable. We has a mixed platter and the chicken kebabs were so great. The vegetarian options were quite bland and for the diversity in items I was let down by the lack of different tastes, and the 'uniformity' of it all. <br/><br/>Nonetheless, the experience and drinks are always good.

The best bar in Johannesburg to combine social buzz with a wide variety of cocktails. The tapas are pretty good and the prices are relatively affordable. Casual dates are good here in this relaxed environment. I generally love the relaxed vibe here, no matter the occasion.

The food is absolutely amazing and goes well with the cocktails they serve! I hate the fact that once it gets full we have to share tables like there is zero privacy, but it's a great vibe overall.

Legendary finger food platters for sharing didn't disappoint. As drinking foods as well as a genuine attraction, the food is really good. Not quite spectacular but as good as it gets as far as bars go. Staff is competent and vibey. Kitchen Is open till 1 am everyday so that's a huge bonus. Great presentation. A nice place to kick off your evening or gather to celebrate a tough week at work.

Been to this place almost a thousand times but their beers are awfully warm!! Apparently the owner, "Ebs" (As per waitor) doesn't want them chilled any further. Very disappointing as this place is generally okay.

100% the best Nachos in Johannesburg, hands down. The sauce they use is incredible, the cheese generous and the guac sensational; the perfect recipe. I could talk about their nachos for days but I'll use some self restraint and move this review on. Their other food is also really good although I must admit I mostly ever had their nachos. They have a lovely variety of tapas. I've tried their samoosas, spring rolls, haloumi, and chili poppers. All really good, their vege spring rolls are exceptionally good.<br/><br/>I have never had a waiter here who wasn't amazing. They're always so friendly, ready to suggest a killer cocktail and all around add to the vibe. The vibe is great with a banging play list and cool colours and decor.<br/><br/>Their cocktail menu is extensive and the ones I've had were great. They have a happy hour (7 hours) every day from 12 til 7 where it's two-for-one which makes the experience friendly with the wallet even.<br/><br/>Despite all the great options of restaurants in the area this is the clear winner for me, so give it a visit!<br/><br/>

Great place, great vibe but our group had 8 extra drinks added to our bill by a waiter named Mandla. Not like you think u need to keep video footage of your evening to prove that u only had so many drinks but apparently that's what we should've done. Not a great experience. Be careful when you go there.

SIX Bar has got to be my FAVOURITE cocktail bar in Jozi. They have such a wide variety to choose from in terms of cocktails and they are devine! I love the food here too, really compliments the atmosphere and makes its a great place to chill out and have a good time. Thanks SIX team for the awesome hospitality always!

Six Bar literally has the beat Nachos in town. It's a MUST get if you visiting, not to mention their wifi is ready fast. A great little place to stop for a drink or two.

The food here is absolutely delicious and tasty. The waiters are swift and just as your drink hits hallway they are there to ask if they must tell the bar tender to get you another one. Their cocktails are stunning and who could ever complain about a 2 for 1 cocktail?

Cocktails are good and nachos are great. But it is too much of a student place for my liking. Can get really rowdy and crowded. It's better to go in the week than weekends.

Love this place!! Where do I start? <br/>Love the extensive list of cocktails and shooters on the menu. You're really spoilt for choice! The food menu is equally exciting(though they don't have a lot of vegetarian options on the menu)- but if there's one thing you try- it has to be the nachos!! For a bar, the food here is really amazing!!<br/>Then the service- probably the best service I have seen in Joburg in a really long time!! For the feeling of a bustling city while being hidden away by latin deco and music, only that can be found at Six.<br/><br/>A personal favourite when in the creative mood while visiting one of the most creative urban areas in the region.<br/><br/>Word of warning, One helping of Nachos and a whiskey sour will convince you of asking for vip membership. Their cocktails are great. The staff can be quite needy sometimes. Their food is however hearty and delicious. Lots of students in the area so wear a crop top so you can fit in.

Needing a bite to eat with our beers, and seeing as the kitchen was closed where we were, we headed to Six for the best nachos in Joburg. We were seated at a shared table, which added to the experience and meant that not only did we make new friends but we also landed up staying far longer than we planned and introducing our new friends to our favourite cocktail: the chocolate martini. Not a place for a quick drink, definitely a place to meet new friends, linger, and enjoy the excellent food and most tasty cocktails.

Great atmosphere coupled with great drink specials, what more could you want from a chill session, except maybe some kick ass nachos. The location is a little hard to find and if you try get in on a busy day, good luck! But it's all worth it in the end

It was our first night in Joburg starting a long trip. Dropped by because it looked appealing and we have not been deceived. The owner was very receptive, the cocktails delicious, the best pinnacolada I ever had. The steak was the best my husband and I have had throughout our whole tour in South Africa!    I would also pay special attention to the young Bernie who is so nice and was very attentive to our request.  We spent a nice evening with the music and the young around even though we are in our 60's.

I love sixes but the  manager is something else. He kicked us out and told us never to come back just because he gave us off milk for the second time he couldn't even apologise. We have been supporting sixes for a very long time we go there almost every Thursday and then he tells us never to come back. I love the drinks and the food but because of the manager we can't even go back.

Still such a favourite with plenty of cocktail options. Love it! The platters are a perfect mix to the vibe. A must try on a lazy Saturday.

Cocktails! Cocktails! Cocktails! For days! My head was spinning I did not know what to drink. So many options. I Recommend the Voodoo Vodka. <br/><br/>Never have I been to a place that is so determined to get you drunk. Best customer service I have seen ever! The waitrons know exactly what to recommend and very friendly. <br/><br/>The Nachos are good but not the best for me, the only reason this is not a 5 is because the happy hour special was not explained properly. So i forfeited 6 free cocktails 😤 but I definately will be going back to Drink all the cocktails!

This place is amazing. Firstly, the menu has a wide selection of cocktails & cocktails that suit all personalities. Secondly, the service is amazing. The manager approached us a few times & our waitress was on point - always checking on us & immediately changing the ash tray (even with 1 cigarette in) and lastly the vibe. As its a small place, sometimes you're joined with strangers... Nice way to meet new people & I don't mind that. The music is loud & the people are louder. Will be back to try the delicious looking food (restaurant open till 01:00)

One of the only places where I could tell the barman what I like, he surprised me and I love the cocktail. Absolutely loved this place when I was younger for that. Also have amazing nachos, and a great variety of virgin-cocktails!

Having been around for more than a decade, Six Bar appears to be the one constant in the ever changing Melville landscape. In fact Six has even cracked a nod on the World's Best Bars directory.<br/><br/>Their cocktail menu is extensive, with over 60 cocktails on offer and the maraschino cherry on top, they have a daily happy hour which actually has a seven hour duration! The bar is unpretentious and I just love the chilled 7th Avenue vibe. So grab yourself an uber and get to work on that cocktail menu.

My first appletini experience was at Six Bar years ago, and its the only place i go to for it. Its like you are sipping alcohol out of an apple. Its crisp sweet and tangy, love it. Six is always busy and has a great mix of patrons, always expect to have an awesome time and you are spoilt for choice with cocktails.

Sixes is awesome. Great vibe,tasty finger foods and the list and variety of cocktails is endless. Perfect for sundowners with a few friends. The only 'problem' is the sharing table policy which can be a bit of an irritation.

Wow! Where do I being... We arrive on a Friday 5pm for drinks and dinner and are told that if our table isn't full we will need to share and"that is just something we do around here". I mean I'm all about meeting new people but not over my dinner. We waited over 45 minutes for drinks just for manager to tell us that the bar is busy - excuse me but if your happy hour gets busy maybe get another 2 bartenders during happy hour (logical?). This was then followed by a 50 minute wait for food that was terrible. At this point we were starving and would have eaten the glass out drinks were served in. All of that aside the food was terrible. The nachos were so soggy that you didn't need teeth to chew them. The mini Prego rolls are extremely hard to bite into. The meat balls were desert dry and the avo crostini had an entire garlic clove on it. The poor waiters are left apologising all night long for the bar and the kitchen. Top off a terrible night the bathroom doors don't even lock... I recommend no one come here.

Best NACHOS in town!!!!!! They aren't selfish with their portions and toppings. You have to go for the 2 for 1 drink specials that start at 12pm and finish at 7pm. The bar gets full pretty quickly but you can reserve a table. The music is great, the food not too bad and the drinks amazing and you won't leave their with all your pennies finished. There are rumors going around that Melville is on the come up, that soon it will outshine its counterparts Braamfontein and Maboneng and reclaim its title as hipster/hippy hangout. I'm not too sure about that....<br/><br/>But when I do find myself in Melville, like I did yesterday I know there is only one place I am going, Six on 7th street! Their Nachos are really yummy, that's all I ever order. Ive tasted some other stuff on their menu and I really wouldn't recommend it, other then their Nacho's there's not much to talk about. As much as I love the Nachos, I usually go for the half chicken and half mince, I do feel like their standard is dropping. My friends had gone the previous week and were utterly disgusted by the Nachos but I defended their honor by taking them again last night and they did admit they were much better this time. I didn't mention that I was a little dissapointed, some Nachos were cold which was a bit off putting but I did manage to clear my plate.<br/><br/>Lets be honest though, no one goes to Six for an unforgettable culinary experience, we go for the vibe and the booze. I ordered a Che Guvera cocktail which could have done with some ginger ale or something but it was cool. Make sure you get there in time for their buy one get one free cocktail special otherwise its really not worth the strain on your pocket. They really need to upgrade their wine list, a selection of two wines is laughable for a bar.<br/><br/>Having said that, the ambiance is delightful and welcoming. The staff are exceptionally friendly and its the kind of place were there is no doubt that all are welcome. If your looking for something to do in the early week, pay Six a visit.

Best PinaColada and best Nachos in Jburg! Their two for one cocktails between 12 and 7pm will make your drinks linger into dinner! The staff is always friendly, although sometimes cocktails take a bit long to make so order your next round before your drink is done.

The cocktails are ok. Except for the ones I ordered. The kir royale is not a kir royale. I recommend sticking to the in-house ones, where they can just mix any old booze together, they are quite nice, especially if you are pre-drunk.

I've been to Six a couple of times. It gets very busy at night, with really loud people and very loud music. Which makes it very hard to have any kind of conversation, what so ever with even your waiter standing right next to your ear. so forget about speaking to anyone sitting opposite you. I don't think it's a club, but its way too loud and crouded to be a lounge. Their Mocktails are good and I love the special they run during the day with the buy one get one free drink from 2pm-5pm. I've ordered nachos, wings and some sort of prawn basket and it was nothing quite memorable especially based on how much you pay for everything there. The Nachos were cold and got soggy really quickly, and their food was nothing to rave about except for their presentation. But I'd much prefer a horribly presented dish that tastes amazing, rather than a beautifully presented dish that has no taste. Other than that, during the day, expect no service. And tons of flies on every table. Makes me wonder what their Kitchen Looks like. So why did I give them a 2.5? Only because, the mocktail strawberry daquiri never fails.

I will never get tired of this place. Get the platter for munchies- they will not disappoint! Make sure to make it for happy hour- but 1 get 1 free. Awesome friendly receptive staff.

Lately,  I feel more like I am drinking my way around Melville than eating it, but I am loving it! My favourite place for a cocktail on this street is SIX bar (and restaurant) which has incredible R55 cocktail selections, enthusiastic barmen and an unmistakably comfy, sofa vibe about it - so it would make sense that the first time that I visited this spot was as a student many years ago! SIX has stood the test of time and turns 12 this year, but it has come a long way since I was a student and it has had a face lift or two since then, keeping it on trend.  I plan to head there again for a lazy afternoon of cocktail drinking (and photographing) soon so I will update this review then with some photos.                                    *Recommendation: Ask about their two-for-one cocktail specials which I hear last seven hours (yes, you heard me right).. you won't be disappointed.

Stopped by for a cocktil and a cheesecake. I need to come back for food. Apparently they have changed their menu since last week they had their birthday. <br/><br/>I like the vibe and a good place for a sunny afternoon catch up with friends.

Lovely place.Perfect drinks and delicious food. Amazing waiters.... Who sometimes go awol. I had the tapas option which was great!!! The chicken sliders with pineapple were amazing. The mexican burger patties with nachos and jalapenos...amazing. <br/><br/>A lively crowd and a great place to be in with a great ambiance.

Best Nacho's one will ever have!! Really yummy cocktails.great place for a night out with friends.Only downside is the decor is a bit dated,could do with a bit of revamping.

Six is probably really the best place to go in Melville for cocktails. <br/>The only down side is they have really poor table management (if you've booked a table) which I suppose is understandable considering the type of establishment it is. Over all though, great turn up.

Oh beware!<br/><br/>You might start by just joining a couple of friends for an after dinner drink/cocktail...<br/>The next thing you know, you are having your 3rd shooter with 2 cocktails to follow and dancing to some awesome music with any number of friendly patrons!<br/><br/>The cocktails and drinks specials are good, the bartenders are better And overall always a fun experience which will keep you out later than you anticipated!

Landed there yesterday afternoon with 4 friends. We were there at 330 pm with the intention of a couple of cocktails but the vibe / atmosphere / music / bar menu ensured we only leave after 6 hours. Needless to say the cocktails were fantastic - I'm biased towards a good mojito and they didn't disappoint. We also ordered a non veg platter enough for the 5 of us. Ending the night at around 2200 each of us would have had around 7 cocktails and 4 shooters and ended up spending 500 per head. Incl of a 20% tip. Overall great pocket friendly fun. Much recommended.

One of the best cocktail bars in Johannesburg, the cocktail menu is really exciting and the vibe around you is enough to keep you happy. I think their nachos are the best for me yet as a finger snack the cheese is really worth the munch and they are not stingy.

This place is always great for a after work cocktail, however after the sun goes down it gets a bit rowdy - club like somewhat, if thats what you looking for then this place is ideal.. <br/><br/>The cocktails however never disappoint

Sixes is always a good place to have some drinks. Mellville still has some really cool places to visit, and this is one of them.

Fun cocktails with fun friends! Waiters are super friendly and everyone minding their own business. Young and viby crowd. They have a variety of cocktails to pick from, the few I had were awesome. .

They have a daily cocktail special from midday until 7 where it's buy one get one free! This is one of the best deals you can get! Sixes is always vibey and is a fantastic way to ease yourself into Melville. Give the Patrone based cocktails a try as these are pretty great.
