Review Simply Asia Eastgate - Johannesburg

C Theodorou
Very tasty food as always. Our go to "fast food" as a healthier alternative to traditional food. Authentic Thai taste - we have been to Thailand. Service is good with friendly knowledge waiters :)
Tony
Went to have their half price sushi on Thursdays. Good quantity for the price and there were a nice variety of options. The rice was a bit over-cooked but the flavours were great. It was pretty busy and we waited about 50min for the food. The service was fine and atmosphere was alright. Update: Order the Tom Yum soup Hot with Chicken and thank me later!

Oh Wow! Sums up our experience at Simply Asia Eastgate last night. We decided to try out their sushi special which was absolutely incredible. The sushi was some of the tastiest sushi we have ever had, fresh and delicious - their menu offers a wonderful selection. Service was good, staff friendly and efficient. There was obviously a slight wait due to the sushi special demand and preparation - but overall an excellent experience and great value on their special. This huge platter, with 2 coldrinks and the bill wasn’t even R300!

Love the food . Not much to look at but food makes up for it all. Has in side and out side seating been going here for years love it thanks

Good food Good service nice atmosphere

Staff are always friendly. The food is always great. Great prices.
Joe Ram
Very accommodating with the serving of sushi , i requested no avo and no cucumber, which they happily assisted with, sushi was good. Only takes along time to get, staff are ok, nothing more than the basic service. No real atmosphere, its a sit down outside type vibe, no real scenery or music or anything to more to create anything extra to the experience.

Really helpful waiter and waitress. Had a busy toddler who was being a bit naughty. They wanted to assist so that I could enjoy my meal. Really thoughtful! Half price sushi was good. 5 stars for service

Food was extremely delicious as always !! 🙌🏼❤

Their food is consistent with good pricing and service to match. I'm greeted by name 😊

Had dinner last night and it was delicious. Service excellent and generous portions

Service levels was good . The green curry was very tasty but the heat level was not there .
The Phad thai was great , good flavor , good portion . First time having the Radish cake starter , interesting , maybe needs a hotter dipping sauce . Overall a good meal out .

We came for the Sushi and we weren’t disappointed. The bamboo rolls and the wasabi parcels were great. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for sushi in Eastgate 😄👍🏼

Delicious food well represented!! Friendly staff!! So happy to finally find a great Simply Asia much better experience than Bryanston!!! Well done guys!!!

I have been making cycles around this eatery and will do so again in the future. I ordered a bowl linguine with seafood. Other than the pasta every other ingredient were not cooked well. The shrimps, few and far between, were overcooked and tough. This while the onions, tomatoes, calamari and mushrooms were raw.
Now I not a good cook by any measure, but do know different ingredients need different cooking times. Throwing everything in wok at the same time doesn't help much. It's a No for me.
Jade Soobramoney
Great Food. Would definitely recommend going there. Love their Shushi and the noodles. Try go on a week day for lunch . Weekends tend to be a bit full.

Thank you @AJ for a GREAT Asian taste experience at your restaurant yesterday, my family absolutely enjoyed your recommended dishes 622, 317 & 513!!!! We only ever order your 309 & 514 dishes - call us creatures of habit or we’re just afraid of trying something new in case we don’t like it. We will most definitely order the other dishes the next time we visit. You should allow all your customers to taste test your new dishes, it’s a game changer👌

This is honestly my favourite place for sushi! Half price on Thursday is the best way to go otherwise it can be pricey. Friendly service but you might wait a while but that's what quality entails. A definite must
Aboo Hassim
Absolutely dismal service. Waited 2 hours for a 1km Delivery. Was promised below 40min and the price given to me was incorrect! To add th efood was cold and soggy.

many, many vegetarian options. Now that the menu has changed and the kitchen has changed, I feel more comfortable eating here, knowing that veg options are created separately and many menu items can be made for vegetarians.
Melissa Do Couto
Pretty good food served speedily. I would eat here again if I was in east gate, but otherwise I wouldn't really drive out of my way. Delicious flavours, fresh ingredients and generous portions.

Well balanced food choice with elegant lunch today at an acceptable price. Wine menu needs dry rose please; will be back to work through the menu with your friendly ambiance.

This is another branch of the Simply Asia concept from the Cape which is easily accessible and situated on the roof top with all the other restaurants in the shopping centre.

The service here is a bit slow at times and at other times quite good. The manager however is very friendly and helpful.

Since the invent of their simpler and more extensive new menu, of this restaurant group, there is a wider variety of meals for vegetarians. Even though their spring rolls are a bit expensive they are bite sized which is a nice touch however they seem to still be a small portion.

The new white radish dish on the menu is full of simple flavours and is an averaged sized portion. However, the food quality could be a better overall.

There is imported coconut "water" available at times which is something worth trying if you haven't before.

I was here twice, both times disappointed. Food was alright with added mediocreness after the long wait that was building up my anticipation and appetite - would never trust this place for a quick bite, and the portions don't fill ya.

I came over for a Sunday lunch and overall, it was an average experience. Service was okay but the food did take long to arrive at my table. The sushi was good but the same cannot be said for the Thai Yellow Curry Salsa Chicken. The yellow curry took too long to arrive and definitely it wasn't worth the wait. Chicken was dry, the cucumber was bland and offered nothing to the dish and the sauce was flavourless. However, the rice was very nice. Well, I would most likely only order take aways from here.

It's 3 o'clock in the morning and I haven't stopped pooping! I'normally have a really good tolerance to GIT viral infections, but after taking my family out last night to this specific restaurant, I've had a non stop running stomach and had the regular and normal 514 chicken meal. From my professional experience this type of viral infection is usually due to poor sanitation from the people handling your food, which is a shame now because I will never return to this simply Asia and wouldn't want anyone to go through what I'm currently experiencing.

Food is really good although my order has been messed up a couple times for takeaway. They are always however willing to make up for the mistake.
Tikka
If you love Thai food then this is a good good affordable option. I have been here a couple of times and I am always impressed with the service and food, whether I'm having a take away or sit down.

So simply Asia east gate branch...

Being a fan of sushi and Japanese cuisine I decided to stop past simply Asia for a light lunch while in the area.

Sushi was fresh but lacked taste, the rice consistency was acceptable but the overall rice flavour indicated that a traditional sushi vinegar had either not been made or a cheap factory made brand was being used.

The springrolls puzzled me a little as I got a few tiny little pieces that didn't even look like real springrolls for nearly R50, so in terms of quality vs value for money I would definitely not recommend this chain of restaurants

In terms of decor and overall vibe they have a fresh clean looking shop but again nothing special.

In conclusion the food is quite average, nothing really bad and nothing really good.
Don't think I'd be back in a hurry though

Hi have a question to ask will simply asia have a valentines special available ? Love simply asia food !! We often eat at your restaurant !! Would there be a valentines special offer available !! Regards lesley & gwen ps please answer

Nor long ago I treated two of my friends to lunch there. I always go for a bowl of noodles. I cannot remember the order number but it's my favourite. One of my friends decided to have curry. Now curry at an Asian restaurant is very different from an Indian one but I don't think many people know that. When his plate came and he noticed his curry was green he was a bit worried. It was amusing but he enjoyed every bite. He was shocked at how good it was. My other friend is one to order a starter while she waits for her food so I expected the bill to be over R400. To my surprise it was just over R300. For 3 people. I always rave about it. Cannot wait for my next encounter

We visited Simply Asia Eastgate to eat Sushi, where they got the order wrong and instead of bringing Tempura Prawn Sushi, they ended up bringing a tuna salad after we had waited for a half an hour. I sent it back and told them not to bother trying to fix it. Not likely to go back

We recently came to get take always form Simply Asia. I ordered the tofu rice dish. The food was fantastic and the service friendly. I like the fact that there is a glass window so that you can see into the kitchen and see your food being prepared. The kitchen looked clean and the ingredients looked fresh. I will definitely be back for more and to try out all of their vegetarian dishes.

The Prawn Thai noodles are amazing. Really flavourful. I couldn't even see a tiny bit of oil on the springrolls, which is always great. Dumplings were my favourite. Great Asian food!
Jo Burger
Nice spot with outdoor area. The spring rolls were good and seafood curry noodles were delicious. Extensive menu with lots of different sushi options too.

Simply Asia makes the most amazing authentic Thai food. Obviously it's because you can see the chefs are from Thailand. Their noodle dish 514 has to be one of the most amazing meals I've ever had. Literally the best combination of flavours you could ask for. Then you get their sushi. They also make the best sushi I've ever had, especially their Hot Rock n Roll. My wife and I are regulars here. Fantastic service. The waiters don't even bother asking me what I want, they know to order me 514. Love this place. Never had a bad meal here. And did I mention that you can get a Singha beer here too

This restaurant proved that even when your having a crazy special quality comes first! Quality service and quality food. Definitely a must especially as 2 for 1 noodles has been extended.

We stopped by for a quick bite before a movie, and the service was really slow. At the end we had to get up and go to the counter to pay because our waitress was no where to be seen, despite telling her earlier we needed to leave for a movie.

Besides that the food was good. My boyfriend had the chicken wing starter, and the chicken was tasty despite being so tiny. I had the Thai Yellow Chicken with Salsa which wasn't really what I was expecting. I thought it would be a bit saucier but they only give you a sweet chilli type "salsa" sauce on the side to drizzle over a few fried chicken pieces atop a square block of rice. The coconut rice was nice and the chicken was marinaded well, but despite the flavours it felt like something was lacking. Also the sauce wasn't minty. I'll probably stick to the curry options next time as I really love Thai curries. The basil seed drinks are delicious, I would highly recommend ordering it with your meal.

I'm always reluctant to eat at an Asian franchise restaurant as I'm never sure if I will receive good quality food. But Simply Asia is the exception. I've eaten here several times over the past few weeks and each time has been absolutely delicious! The Curry Powder Noodles with a crispy chicken breast is honestly to die for, and the Phuket noodles are just amazing! Their sushi is also great, just a little bit pricey, so it's great to get one portion as a starter :)

Late Saturday lunch at Simply Asia. All excited we ordered a CBC Lager and a Choc Mint Freezo while we studied the menu. Sorry we don't have any of that. Oh dear, let's try Jack Black and Chai Freezo. Sorry don't have Jack Black. Was getting slightly irritated but the waitress came back with a CBC Pilsner. I think her name is Loveness and she is a star! Ordered sushi to start and Pad Thai for mains. The sushi was great, fresh and delicious. The main was somewhat disappointing, expected more flavor. Tasted bland. Don't think I'll have it again. Overall experience was pleasant enough but it's expensive.

Placed at the East gate food court, it's an ideal location. As per usual with Simply Asia; the food is fantastic, just about the right portion, requested heat rating is perfect and the menu has loads of variety.

Unfortunately, as per usual with Simply Asia; their prices are on the expensive side and just about justifies the quality of the food. This particular branch is weirdly setup with no distinctive, warm, inside rates which can be uncomfortable for some.
Harshika Shantilal
I've had the pleasure of eating here a couple of times. Definitely one of the best Simply Asia's. Great for a quick meal after shopping. Their food is authentic and waiters are pleasant.
Their soya duck and their basil & chilli chicken is always a win for me.
Their owner is great and we've had a chance to try out their sushi while they were busy experimenting.

Lunch @ Simply Asia, Eastgate. Decent food, wide variety menu with lots of choices, it was my first experience at Simply Asia, my meal consisted of excessive amounts of onion, lesson learnt to request less onion. Not an experience to rave about from my point of view, situated in the heart of restaurants in Eastgate roof level I did expect much more, the service was very friendly and welcoming.

Celebrated Mothers Day at Simply Asia East Gate. Great food. If you Thai, then this is the place to go. Service was good too. Would definitely come here again
Chris Hardy
Very good food! The noodles are a must try! Sushi is good too. The people are mostly very friendly! But in all-in-all a very good experience!

It's truly simply an Asian delight to dine at or grab a tasty snack.

They have a variety of culinary options from Thai, to traditional Chinese and even sushi. The portions are very generous which makes it perfect for a taste experience to share with friends.

We tried the Thai Curry Pesto Noodles and Basil Fried Rice.

Not so great on the dim sum but the rest of the dishes were gobbled!

You definitely have to Simply Try It!
Cristina Melosi Scola
Great for a quick oriental fix. Great variety of noodls dishes, my absolute favourite. I love the basil chicken with noodles. Staff always very friendly and prices are good.

I am so addicted to simply asia I think it's my favourite restaurant.
I am addicted to their noodles but today I decided to try their rice meal number 623

Omg it's amaaaaaziiiing
Ka Wing 88
Just so you know. I am Cantonese Chinese. Dim sum is my life-blood and what people like me grew up on. I don't do fusion, I don't do "Chinese food" that has been catered for western preferences. Yet, the GF insisted she be allowed to eat here. And not only that, she insisted on ordering a mini steamer of mixed dim sum. How I did not kill over right there I don't know. And yet somehow, after I reluctantly took a bite of the first dumpling, I actually enjoyed it (please don't tell my mother!). I judged the har gow (prawn dumpling in a translucent white wrapper) to pieces, physically deconstructing the wrapper, digging through the prawn filling and then chewed slowly... deliberately... trying to taste all the tastes... It was, actually, not too bad. It wasn't an "authentic" tasting dumpling, but it was tasty and good enough. I was speechless. It is, however, significantly more expensive than a Chinese restaurant. Oh, and don't get me started about the Happy.Me next door...! Why is everyone stealing "our stuff" and making it main stream and expensive? Please stop that. Thanking you in advance :)
Melissa Press
Very disappointed in the amount of beef I got in my beef cashew with noodles. For R80 I must have had 8 small and thin slices of beef and a few cashews in a box of mainly noodles. It was very tasty however I feel as if I was ripped off and couldn't send my food back as it was a takeaway.
I don't often go...

Had a pleasant dinner with a friend. Food tasted good, first time I tried sushi and I can say I'll definitely be having it again. Service needs to be a bit more attentive as it wasn't that full but all in all an average evening

Dinner on Sunday 17/04/16. I am a fan of the simplicity of Simply Asia. The ease of grabbing a table and a quick yummy meal. Our waitress Rebecca was pleasant and on the ball. Service wasn't particular fast but nothing I can complain about. The manager Blessing also checked in on the meal which I thought was a great touch considering it is such a laid back vibe. Food is never a disappointment. I had a devine 515 which is noodles with a peanut butter base super yum. To finish off I had a 902 which is there chocolate spring rolls... May I just say deadly yum. Everyone had a great meal and there were no complaints around the table.

Popped in for dinner this evening. Waitress gave us the sushi menu, then proceeded to tell us the rice was still being cooked when we wanted to order sushi.
We ordered a variety of noodle dishes, all mild. All were delicious and arrived promptly, with very little chili, as we'd requested. Pretty reasonably value for money, nothing too fancy.
Chantel
Excellent take always! The food is fresh an tasty hence the slight wait for orders . Great value for money. The satay sauce was a bit runny but the spring rolls are Devine

It was a stinky hot Sunday lunch time when we wondered up to the roof level of Eastgate in search of a good meal. Of course the restaurants where all pretty packed but we found a free table here, so we gave it a try.
We found a table outside, under an umbrella with a large bush filled flower bed on one side. Unfortunately it blocked our view of the kiddies play area so we couldn't watch our little one at play without going to stand with her in the play area.
Our waitress tried being friendly as best as she could. She did recommend a main dish for me which I hope will be great.
We ordered a milkshake and a freezocino. After 10mins the waitress came to say they did not have the flavour we requested. Oh dear.
So two milkshakes it was then and they ended up being very average milkshakes. Just a plain frothy milkshake.
For starters we had the peanut satay and the sweet corn fritters. The sweet chilli sauce and fritters were very tasty but the the satay a bit chewy and uninspiring but the accompanying peanut sauce was pleasant.
The restaurant setting is very take away'ish, fast foodie, noisy and lacking in imagination.
For mains we had a sweet & sour Preow Wan chicken and a Ba-Mee Prik Phao beef. Both with mild chilli.
The Ba-Mee was very tasty and the spice was perfect. The veggies were crisp and yummy.
I enjoyed the meal.
The Preow Wan was saucy, flavourful and very nice.
My wife and I enjoyed our food but I didn't enjoy the cramped, noisy, commercial, food court vibe.

Wednesday dinner trio checked this out as my wife has been having some serious Asian cravings since she relocated to this part of the world. The menu showed promise. For starters we has the prawn spring rolls, mains were a chicken noodle dish, veg rice dish and a pad thai. Veg rice dish was a hit. Noodle dishes were disappointing - good flavours but my noodles were the Maggie 2 minute noodles. Will give it one more shot due to flavours - fingers crossed.

Food is amazing and service was top notch!!! I will definitely be back! The variety of meals on offer makes this a place of intrigue for your taste buds!

I think I am closet Thai food lover (through home cooking) but even though I've seen this brand around and heard from other about its supposedly heavenly fare - I've never really invested time to try it, until fate had it today.

Wanted a quick bite after a long day and their menu is quite a culinary map - from chicken or beef 😊 noodles to seafood noodles and all which all look quite yum.

Needed to do a quick decision and requested the waitron to suggest something that he thought was tops of the menu and he suggested the Thai Tongkatsu Linguine stir-fried with carrot, tomato, cabbage, basil, onions and spring onions with some Thai sauces. Well, verdict?

I must admit that even though the dish was relatively tasty thanks to sauces by any standards, I struggled tasting other ingredients and could count pieces of chicken strips put in there. There was just too much linguini.

Will try other dishes next time and see if I could arrive at the same conclusion.

Attentive service, tasty food and ready smiles await you. I've yet to have a less than perfect experience. I love the order by numbers system because lovely as the dishes are, they are not easy to pronounce. Love it!!!

Simply Asia, I went there for Thai food. Great taste, good value for money and good location

They also have good selection of dishes. I would go there for a quick Thai dish
Rose Marie Pereira
Great Thai food, love getting take aways from here, the food is fresh and flavoursome and not greasy at all. Service is good. A definite must try!.
Shumaiz Hashim A.P.M
Great food, great service and ideal location.309 my favorite with simply Asia. The good thing, you don't feel heavy after a Thai dish.the problem I have seen in most of their branches is there is no much enclosed place with Aircon, especially when you are having a hot food. The service was excellent in this branch
Jerusha
We sat in the open air outer section, the restaurant has a lovely vibe. Our food arrived very quickly and was some of the best Asian food we have had in a while . The menu caters for a wide variety. Waiters are attentive. Prices are excellent. They have an awesome selection of drinks.
Stoil Michaylov
Quite enjoyed the spicy prawn soup. The noodle main was excellent too. The friendly waiters made the quick lunch enjoyable. It's no Dino dinning but perfect for a quick lunchtime meal.
Darren Baetu
Simply terrible, don't waste your money and time, one of the worst meals I have ever eaten, nothing was nice. Over cooked prawns, calamari and noodles. Third bad experience at eastgate sa, won't be back.
Cait Morris
I ordered the 503 and loved it! It was saucy, flavoursome and delicious. I highly recommend ordering it with chicken. It was a delivery service and the food was warm when it arrived and stayed warm for some time afterwards. The gentleman on the phone taking the order was friendly and efficient and made the whole experience a pleasure.
Eddie Chien
As expected, quick service and great Thai food from the Simply Asia chain. Delivery service is available for those "omg I'm too tired to cook because I can't move my arms gym days".
Eleni
I am a huge fan of Asian cuisines. And Simply Asia surely knows how to make sure that I enjoy the food! :)

My ultimate favorite meal would have to be their Mushroom roasted chili-paste stir-fry. The pros to this dish include that they use Jasmine rice which really compliments the dish. Moreover, the flavor combinations work perfectly together.

What is also a great feature that not many restaurants do is that they include a detailed table of the amount of calories, sodium, fat and protein of each meal. This proves to be quite beneficial. Why? There are many people who have dietary restrictions and need to monitor their intake. This really helps one choose what to eat :)
Sarah Krawitz
Impressive service and extensive menu, food was tasty and flavorful. Was a great first experience, excited to try many more dishes. Highly recommended

Let me start off by saying that I'm not much of an Asian cuisine fan but I'm never one to say no to trying something new - or at least another Simply Asia. I really LOVE their sushi... So I'm a big sushi fan but I'm being for real when I say that they've got some really yummy sushi. I met the owner once and he's such a real nice man... So friendly and it resonates through his staff. They are so nice. I would go back any day.
Natasha Lutz
Last minute decision to go get take a ways here and it never disappoints. The food was freshly made and the person who helped was friendly and efficient. We had 503 it was delicious. Def will be back
Hana
Nice lunch here this afternoon. My husband was craving sushi and I wanted some sort of noodle dish so we compromised and came to Simply Asia. The service was good and competent but not overly special. The sushi was nice but I would have expected a better cut for the sashimi. The dim sum was a little dry and overcooked and I would like more for the price. I always love the duck spring rolls here. I think this place would be better value for money on certain weekdays when they have their sushi specials.
Nikita
I love THIS Simply Asia in particular!
The food is always excellent, and very reasonably priced.
I find it to be the only place that serves the closest thing to authentic thai food, but that very well may be my personal taste. Either way, I love this place and visit it at least twice a month!
My personal favorites are the : 201, 301, 318, 622 , and 626!!!!
Mithum Singh
This was the 3rd or 4th time we've eaten at Simply Asia Eastgate and we need to admit the service was really slow today. The food was not up to standard, when compared to the quality and taste of food that we've become a custom to at simply asia. We've eaten at a number of the simply asia restaurants and need to share our disappointment with the standard today.
Ania Botha
I really enjoyed the meals here and they have been consistently good. The sushi is good quality and very well presented! Love the sushi here! We ordered the 514 and 536... Love the 536 (it's new)!!
Jose Pinto
What a great experience. The flavours were out of this world and the service great. Impressed with the speed and efficiency of the kitchen. Definitely visit again.

"I Love Simply Asia!", said my insanely picky Asian mother.

We had the pleasure of tasting a LARGE variety of their dishes as the guest of the awesome Zomato themselves. I'll break this review into four parts:

Sushi - fresh and delicious
I'm really pleasantly surprised by how good their sushi is. The rice is cooked perfectly and the sashimi are fresh and juicy. I'm normally not a big fan of fusion sushi, but the Hot Rock n Roll was yummy :)

Starter - dry
We had a variety of starters, including spring rolls (veg & chicken), sweet corn fritters and chicken satay. I find everything dry and more on the chewy side. The satay sauce is delicious but the chicken was really flat. However, I've had their tom yum soup on a separate occasion and really enjoyed the well-balanced complex flavours.

Main - flavourful, cannot go wrong with No.514
We tasted probably over ten different dishes, and everything was great. It's difficult to be able to prepare a variety of dishes with them all come out with good quality, so props to the chef (whom they 'shipped' from Thailand and trained in Cape Town!)

The biggest hit of the night was No.514 (chilli paste and cashew nuts noodles). My personal favourites are the fried rice topped with egg and the prawn pad thai. The main thing is that the chefs added twists for the western palates but still managed to keep the traditional Thai flavours. Loved it!

Dessert - meh
I'm quite heavily biased, but I don't really enjoy Westernised Asian desserts. Until there's sago I wouldn't actively recommend ordering desserts (nor coffee) here.

p.s. Last time we came there was buy 1 get 1 free on Monday - Thursday. Not sure when it lasts until though!

Bottomline: My (super picky Asian) mother's new favourite restaurant.

Pros: Good value for money (portion & quality), delicious, fast, the management is superb
Cons: Not the most romantic (but who needs romance when there's good food!)
Ramiro Robalo
Dish after dish I was impressed by the flavour combination and generous portion sizes at Simply Asia. Surprisingly the sushi was not only well made but also delicious, while the main dishes delivered the flavour combinations one would expect from Thai food. 514 is a must at this restaurant! With the buy one get one free special I doubt one would go anywhere else for a great bowl of noodles. #zomatoxsimplyasia

The foodie meet up yesterday was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed how fresh the sushi was (the salmon roses being my favourite). I also enjoyed the duck flavoured in soya sauce, butternut curry and the corn cakes (yum yum). I was pleasantly suprised that Simply Asia had a dessert menu. Those chocolate spring rolls were a little "crunch" of heaven! #ZomatoXSimplyAsia

I joined Zomato a few months ago and boy is this an ongoing adventure. With this app I have found so many new places and experienced so many different cuisines from all over the world.
I was invited to an evening with Zomato and Simply Asia #ZomatoXSimplyAsia and boy you need to put on your big boy foodie pants to come to one of these evenings. First of all you need to prepare yourself to eat, eat and eat some more.
I was so excited, pretty much as the cliché goes 'a little kid in the candy shop'.

So first up was sushi. A variety of different sushi was put on a few different platters. I was indeed pleasantly surprised as I would not have taken the restaurant for good sushi and boy it came with some interesting flavours. To be honest I can't remember the names but the one had Tuna with a bit of may and avo and a sweetish mayo and a lad little spice on the top - the perfect balance between sweet, sour, spicy and salty ( onami if I remember the nane of it).. so good.

Then came a few different starter dishes of fried corn fritters, satay chicken and some spring rolls. Everyone went for the corn fritters and dipped it in the variety of different sauces. The satay chicken was flavourful but a teeny weeny dry (Im going to be kicked for that) but alas Im the honest one remember. The spring rolls were all good and so tasty.

Main courses came and shhhhewwwiiii... were we spoiled!!! There was everything from duck to red pumpkin curry to thai green curry to the famous 514 which had cashews noodles and so much deliciousness.. there was this rice and steak dish where the rice was in this asian sweetish sourish soy sauce with beef topped with a crispy egg (now let me just explain the talent these chefs have, the egg looked over cooked but it was crispy and soft in the middle - this required serious talent especially in a wok). I think each of us had a dish and a half to ourselves- there was so much food ..
What I really enjoyed about the venue was the personal touch to everything. Service was great, when the glass was empty we were asked if we wanted a refill, etc etc.
Before each course we were given a few words by the head chef explaining how the dishes were prepared and how Thai cuisine works. It was just simply amazing I tell you.
I enjoyed the balance of flavours and how it all blended in. One thing I like about Simply Asia is that they also cater for the health conscious so if you are on a low carb diet or low calorie diet - at the back of the menu you will find all the stats on their food. Such a useful tool to have.

Dessert was than served, a platter of a cake, spring roll with melted chocolate inside and fried bananas. Firat time I tried a fried banana, interesting I must say.

The service was really good, I cannot fault it at all. The waitress was pleasant and always helpful. Food was good and the ambiance. . Well lets say we had an awesome crowd of people.
I can see that the restaurant chain is suitable for a busy household that if they want to eat out, they can eat out at a good price and for a quick meal.. ideal if you shopping and just want to rish for the next afternoon appointment. They cater for all palates from vegetarians right to carnivores like me and sushi junkies..

Thank you all for a splendid evening, I certainly enjoyed the experience and meeting such beautiful people.. Lesego BabyLee Puso, Merelda , Dani Dayan , Justin Griesel , Wenchy , Alexa Duarte , Ramani , @sihle .. you all were beaut6oful people..

As far as take away Thai food goes this is a good option. The value-for-money is pretty good and the service is generally quite nice. However, this is not a sit-down restaurant at all. If this was ONLY a take away stall this would get 4/5, but because it tries to be a sit down restaurant (in a food court) I'm afraid I can't in good conscious give it higher than 3. If you want take-out-Thai in the Bedford area, this is your port of call :-)

The food was great and the service too. Pity I was the only one at the restaurant though. Thanks to whomever got this branch to improve because they're clearly on the charm offensive.

I have been wanting to try one of these for a while now and must say, it was a let down. The service at this branch was horrible; it took ages to get my tomato cocktail wholly to find out they don't have Worcester sauce or tabasco. I had a green curry which wasn't half bad but the honey chicken dish is too sweet even for a pudding and the seafood noodles have a concoction of spices that should never be used. One good thing is they have the calorific values of all their food on the menu. Something more places should do.

What a disappointment!!
The service was really slow and when they didn't have something we ordered, it took at least 10 minutes for the waitress to actually notify us that it wasn't available. The food didn't taste very Thai at all, the oil used tasted old and the chocolate spring rolls were so tough and very chewy. The only thing I can say was enjoyable was the milkshake I had, which was Creme Brûlée.

Salmon sushi platter was fresh and awesome!

New chicken roti starter was incredibly salty and very oily - not great...

Service was good

A definite favorite for date night. My boyfriend and I absolutely love this place! Its a relatively small restaurant alongside Eastgate's food court so it can get really full really quick, so you may want to book to avoid having to wait to be seated. Each meal's calorie content is mentioned on the menu, and to my suprise, their meals are relatively healthy and guilt-free. Definitely one of the most affordable places to eat out.

If I am this side of town, Simply Asia in Eastgate is one of my go to places that I can trust for a divine lunch or for a quick dinner. My favorites have to be the 515 (noodles with the peanut sauce) and the 519, but I always order this with the glass noodles which are a real treat! I just wish there was a Simply Asia closer to home, as I would be able to eat their food more often!
Service is always good at the Eastgate branch and the wine selection is decent.
It isn't somewhere where I would go for a relaxing romantic dinner, but in saying that, it is one of my favorite fast food/ takeaway outlets for sure! And the outside seating area is really nice (I'm never a fan of sitting inside if there is an outside area.).
Great takeout option for a Friday night in too. What's better than a box of delicious spicy Thai food in front of the TV!!

Amazing Tai food which is always filled with different flavors. Great sushi also served. And good value for your money. Not many tai restaurants but this is one to deff go to.

From start to finish... waiters are extremely friendly... good atmosphere for a relaxed chilled afternoon... food is fresh and full of great flavours... a must try is the sushi and a noodle dish. .. shall definitely be back... This was my 3rd visit to this branch...

The atmosphere felt a little like a fast food shop. The food was really good but I did feel that the menu wasn't very clear and lacked a few standard options

I would give them a 4 on the food. Its really good and I was quite surprised by how good the dim-sums were as well. You can pretty much order anything on the menu and you wont be disappointed.

My only grudge with them is that despite of being 5 mins away they always take at least an hour to deliver food. They've also got my order wrong the last 2 times (but the food is good so i eat it anyway). I just wish they could improve on the delivery logistics.

Atmosphere: feels weird, like we are not really in the restaurant, the decor could really be improved a whole lot, very boring

Seating: average comfort, a bit cramped, weird (but interesting) pentagonal tables

Service: polite, fast

Food: very tasty, well-made

This place is great for a quick bite or takeaway. Good quality food. From the sushi menu, I loved the hot rock 'n roll.

My rating is based purely on take-away as I have never sat here. As a takeaway restaurant Simply Asia is quite simply
put, fabulous :-). The food is absolutely delicious - streaks ahead of any of the other takeout options one has. Portion sizes are generous and price is good as well. Definitely one of my fav Friday night takeout joints!

It was Saturday night, and we felt like getting some tasty take-aways and watching a movie. And one thing was certain, we needed Thai food. After some research we decided on Simply Asia.
I can't really comment on the service, since we got take-out. But the food... The food was fantastic.
We ordered a couple of starters and the following mains:
- Basil & Chilli Stir-Fry
- Roasted Chilli Paste & Cashew Nut Noodles

The food had just the right amount of chilli, and was very tasty.
What's also cool is that delivery is free, so we'll definitely be ordering more Simply Asia on lazy nights.

Fore more reviews, check out: http://lexieats.tk/

This is a good restaurant for a quick and healthy lunch while shopping. The restaurant is not licensed so if you looking for a buzz while shopping, you will be disappointed. The food is good and in line with all the other Simply Asia's around Joburg. The service was not good and the waiter didn't pay special attention at all. The decor is standard franchise and the ambiance doesn't exist. On a coldish day there was also a nasty wind blowing into the restaurant which made it unpleasant sitting anywhere. This restaurant is good for a quick and healthy lunch.

Most people I know love this place. The food is fresh and generous portions. This is a good place for a quick meal and a good alternative to the usual greasy take away places. This branch is not licensed. I do not recommend the virgin cocktails as they are a super sweetened juice. All in all great flavour, reasonable prices and generous portions make it a win. I found that service was rather slow given that the restaurant was not busy.
