Review Jamie's Italian - Johannesburg

Kristian Meijer
Wow! What a great experience. Jamie's Italian is really worth the trip. The experience and atmosphere is well worth the price. The combination of industrial and art deco design works really well, and the bathrooms are clean and neatly designed. The food is stunning. The Fungi Tagliatelle pasta and Julietta pizza are out of this world. Prices are steep, but the quality is impeccable. Try the Posh Chips, they'll change your life. Really full over the weekends, so beat to book a table beforehand.

Great food, nice location. +food options +pricing Very simple place, I had a casual meal on Sunday. Easy to find table even in a pick time. Very surprised with the Super good salad, unexpected tasty! The veggie burger was OK, the pizza and the ravioli were great. Service is good, the food come out fast and in the right temperature. Only minus we had to ask 3 times for the bill. Overall was good, I would go again.

Great service, excellent food and best dessert. Had spicy meat balls for starters, their special fillet for mains and chocolate fondant to finish off. Will definitely visit again.

Utterly delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere. Celebrated our wedding anniversary here because I love Italian. My husband's life was changed by the Carbonara meal... "spaghetti has never tasted so good".

Well worth the wait. Everything was delicious and light enough to enjoy 3 courses. Suggestion order 3 courses, you deserve it šŸ‘ 2 years after opening this restaurant is still amazing. Best Italian food in Joburg. Best Service. The Best. BEST. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

It was a birthday celebration, choosing Jamie's was supposed to be something different, something awesome and something out the ordinary, boy was it all that and more. I made my booking via dine plan app and it was simple and smooth. Arrived at the establishment and was greeted by friendly staff. Drinks where on point. From the starters, through to the mains and desert, the food was amazing, full of freshness and flavor. We had nothing but a great evening. Compliments to the establishment and staff. Thank you for an amazing experience.

As far as private dining goes, Jamie's get two thumbs up - attentive staff, delicious food, great atmosphere. Host a special occasion here is highly recommended.

I've been wanting to visit Jamie's Italian for over a year now and they didn't disappoint for a second!! The food was delicious, the cocktails were amazing and the service beyond excellent!! You feel right at home from the moment you step foot into the restaurant. My new to-do list: Try every cocktail and dish on the menu šŸ¤©

We had dinner at Jamieā€™s Italian around Christmas time (2019) to enjoy the Melrose Arch Christmas lights and festivities. (A side note, this is a great place to watch the passing parade at Christmas time). Iā€™d heard mixed reviews about this restaurant, and after having had one of my worst meals ever at a Jamieā€™s chain in the UK, this restaurant was not top of my list to try. However, Iā€™m so pleased we went. The restaurant far exceeded my expectations with good food and drinks. It has a lovely vibe and I look forward to going again šŸ„‚

Jamie's Italian Restaurant: If it's fine dining you're after, rather skip Jamie's as you will be disappointed. Jamie's is all about honest, simple and plain down yummy Italian food served with a smile. The overall atmosphere is friendly and warm and the manager visited our table twice to check if all was in order. We first visited a year ago when Jamie's first opened and we were as impressed yesterday as we were then. In fact, in our opinion, the food has improved in the past year. We had the garlic bread to start and it was decadent! Served warm with just enough toasted garlic and butter. For mains I had the famous bolognaise- a very generous portion, flavourful, authentic and worth all the carbs! My fiancƩ Rugan Naicker had the Italian beef burger and spicy fries- the brioche bun was toasted and the beef patty homemade and delicious. We shared the tiramisu for dessert- each with an espresso martini of course. Our starter (shared between two), mains, fries, dessert (shared), a bottle of MCC and two espresso martinis set us back around R780, R900 with a tip. All in all a pleasant experience and we will definitely return.

The Spaghetti Carbonara is to die for!!!!! The staff are friendly and well trained. Would recommend this place to everyone. Please opena restaurant in Cape Town

I was disappointed, the calamari starter was cold and just absolutely tasteless. The salmon as a main was so over cooked, and in my opinion Salmon is the easiest thing to cook, it has to be raw seared only. My salmon was well done. The service was really really great, but MrOliver needs to train his Chefs better. The one in Cyprus was just as shockingly bad. My overall review, I wonā€™t go back and I wonā€™t recommend it. Sorry. Waste of time and money.

The menu was good not overpowering with silly choices and you able to design the meal your way, my meal the chicken al Maattone was good but lacked a decent starch

We went to Jamie's on Friday night and were very disappointed. We booked a table for 4 adults and 2 kids. The waiter brought the menus and when we asked about menu viewers for the kids we were told that there weren't any as they are changing menus. My kids were disappointed about that as it is part of the experience for them. We had to ask for paper and crayons for them. My mother in law ordered a mushroom starter and it was completely tasteless, we couldn't taste the mushroom at all. The manager eventually brought her grilled mushrooms, without bread crumbs, and it was better. Our main courses were ok. For desert, I had ordered the brownie. It was cold, hard and very dense. Brownie is supposed to be soft and gooey in the middle and preferably slightly warm. Presentation was also a let down. All deserts were presented on ordinary plates. On previous occasions they were presented on boards and had more of a wow effect. This time, I would have done better at home. The kiddies ice cream was just 2 scoops in a bowl, nothing else. And the cherry on the top was that they made us pay for the kiddies meals whereas I believe they were supposed to be free in July. We just realised it now and still have to sort this out, which probably means another trip to the restaurant to get our money back! I must say this is the third time I go to Jamie's and I feel that both the quality of food and service are going down. I don't know if I'll go back.

We we to Jamieā€™s last night the 11th April for my 60th Birthday. It was the best birthday that I have ever had the food was delicious the service was amazing and the venue was everything that u would expect from a top restaurant there was nothing to fault thank u for an awesome meal.
Manesha Singh
The food is delicious including the staff and the manager. I would highly recommend the fried squid as a starter. I can't wait to go there again!

Had a great birthday meal at Jamieā€™s Italian but was very disappointed about being given my drink with a plastic straw. One of the easiest single use plastics to eradicate thatā€™s should be banned especially in an international brand like Jamie Oliver!
Christa Holgate
Waitrons were very attentive. Food was tasty and delicious. Had the salmon main - crispy skin, soft and succulent flesh. Partner had the steak, melt in the mouth. Loved that each main dish had different sides.

I was only working there, your gas supply was down and we rushed to help to get you backup. All I can is; that top chef was so excellent with the staff whom he leads. True inspiration. He showed great leadership skills.
Martin Oanyane
One of the best restaurants ever... The staff... The food... Dessert WOW WOW WOW ļæ½ ļæ½ ļæ½

Very ordinary! We got in at 19h30 and was served at 20h50. This after being told that a little over a quarter of the menu was unavailable. The food itself was touch and go. Some normal Italian and others very meagre sprinkling of stuff on the pizza. It must be mentioned that we were there on boxing day so not sure if that has an impact.
Bob Harvey
Maybe Iā€™m missing something but I was totally underwhelmed. Ordered the ā€œplankā€, two slices of cold meat and a couple of pieces of cheese, an olive and a caper for R130. What a joke. A soggy, very doughy pizza that I had to eat with a knife and fork. My wife had the fillet special, which was basically a very smalll steak, sliced and tossed between a few leaves of rocket, a sprinkle of pine nuts on a creamy mushroom sauce. R245. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we left so disappointed. Why do we give these ā€œcelebrityā€œ chefs so much credibility, they are not here to manage their businesses, they just use their names to give a local entrepreneur a chance to make a quick buck.
Tamara Sasha Sen
So disappointing, had the lamb chops and for something that costed R250 it was next to tasteless! I also had the mushroom pasta it was tasty but also not worth R145. I dont mind paying but if you want to charge a premium please blow my tastebuds away!

I went to Jamieā€™s Italian for New Yearā€™s Eve. What a truly awesome experience. The service was excellent. The food was fantastic as always. But what really impressed me was that a few minutes before New Year kicked in, all the staff were given a glass of bubbly and were encouraged to participate in the festivities. What an awesome gesture and how fantastic to see a restaurant treat their staff so well at that time of year. That aside, the booking was efficiently handled. And the vibe was great. Well done, Jamieā€™s Italian! I look forward to seeing you again shortly

What an absolute treat! We have been wanting to eat at Jamieā€™s Italian for some time and finally decided to make a reservation in order to celebrate my momā€™s birthday! The menu was extensive and we had trouble deciding what exactly to have ā€˜cause everything looks so darn delicious.
We ended up just ordering a few different things and sharing everything and my oh my! The Crispy Calamari starter was a revelation! Wrapped in a beautiful light and crispy batter and served with lemon wedges and a dipping sauce, this was one of the most beautiful, simple and delicious starters Iā€™ve had in a while. The calamari was incredibly fresh and so tender it melts like butter in your mouth after every bite šŸ‘Œ
Next we had the Oxtail Lasagna, according to the menu, Oxtail Ragu is slow cooked for 12 hours to bring us this amazing, mouthwatering dish. Finished with lots of Parmesan and some wild rocked, this is certainly a must for anyone looking for a delicious meaty, cheesy filled goodness of a main meal!
Lastly, we ordered the Julietta, a classic margarita pizza with bocconcini and topped with fresh basil. Jamieā€™s Italianā€™s pizza dough is made how pizza dough should be made, its fluffy, crispy and light with the freshest ingredients being used, which, in my opinion is what makes it so absolutely delicious.
Because it was my motherā€™s birthday we were also treated to a complimentary Chocolate Brownie with Salted Caramel Ice Cream (which I will certainly dream about for the foreseeable future) literally when we thought things couldnā€™t get better! Will definitely visit again soon!
Aisha Moolla
My husband and I go to Jamie's very regularly. We order the same thing each time - the wild mushroom fettuccine. It never disappoints! It's delicious and creamy. The waiters generally offer so extra parmesan, which I never say no to! The portion size is quite large. The service is generally good with adequate waiting times. The only thing that could improve is the dessert.
Keith Reddy
Ha a fantastic experience at Jamie's. The hosting was impeccable, recommendations by the manager were spot-on, ambiance beautiful and the food!! The food was a gastronomical delight, highlight was the Oxtail lasagna and the Italian Nachos. Definitely worth a visit.
Riccardo Pillay
Hats off to the management- just attentiveness to detail and service. Requested them to treat my folks and what amazing service. Salted caramel ice cream&tiramisu was the best Iā€™ve ever tasted any where. Heard many critics about JAMIEā€™S but I canā€™t fault them at all.

I went here for a solo date and had an incredible time.
The food was lovely and the service was fast and friendly. Definitely recommend this place.

The worst experience. I booked at Jamie's for my husbands birthday and arranged with the lady on the phone to do something special for him. The food and service were terrible and ofcourse nothing extra was done to make the celebration more special. The garlic bread had zero garlic or butter. The polenta chips were tasteless. The pizza needed seasoning. When we got there and we looked at the menu we were already considering leaving because the options were limited and not what we expected but I chose to stay because it didn't feel right to leave after making birthday arrangements earlier on the phone. The waiter bothered us every 5 minutes until we ordered starters and then took away our menus before we could order mains. I don't know how people felt welcome here. He made us feel really uncomfortable the entire night. Not worth the price. Will never recommend or return. Really spoiled what was supposed to be a wonderful night.
Brittany Smith
Absolutely LOVE this place! The service is always amazing and the food never disappoints! Iā€™ve been here multiple times now and every aspect has always been consistent.

Went to Jamieā€™s for lunch with my mom to celebrate her birthday. We received the most amazing service. The food was great, we had the lamb cutlets and pan fried salmon. Definitely visiting again! šŸ‘šŸ½

We had a splendid night at Jamie's Italian, we got the best treatment by a guy named Celani, he was jolly, kind ans very patient. The meals were well prepared. Value for money

Second time at Jamie's. Quality of the food doesn't disappoint and great value for the price. The oxtail lasagne is a definite winner of a baked pasta dish, especially on a good joburg winter evening. Cap it off with dessert (loved the molten chocolate praline pudding) or the lemon meringue cheesecake and you are guaranteed a wonderful treat of good food.

Unfortunately, the big letdown for me was the service. It started off promisingly enough with us being attended to very promptly initially, but our waiter seemed to forget we existed. Our dessert to over half an hour to arrive-even though our waiter said not more than 10-12 minutes.

Food 4.5/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 2.5/5

Overall 3.5/5

We visited Jamieā€™s on a cold day. There werenā€™t any heaters nearby, in the outside seating area so we had to sit in a sunny area. The waitress seemed like she had too many tables to tend to. This showed itself in the delayed service. We ordered the Bistecca Alla Fiorentina and the Classic Super Food Salad. I asked for a medium rare but it arrived incredibly chewy and was cooked to the core and. The salad was embellished with the salad staples with a hulking great amount of grains and legumes underneath. Not sure what to make of our visit to the establishment.

Iā€™ve been so excited to go to Jamieā€™s for a while now. And it was definitely worth it.

Friendly and quick service.

The food was absolutely delicious and tasty, felt like I was in Italy.

This is also a restaurant that I would describe as quality and not necessarily quantity.

The prices are good and definitely worth it.

Will definitely be back.

First time at Jamie's. We celebrated a 21st birthday and everything was exceptional from the food to the friendly staff and great service. I ordered the prawn pasta that was one of the chef's specials and it did not disappoint!
Loveroffood
If you looking for homely food this is your place. Its cold here in Johannesburg so thatā€™s exactly what Iā€™m looking for. From the freshly made pasta to the pizza and the desserts, my mouth is watering just writing this post:) Definitely a place to go if you want to relax and have some good wholesome food!
DD
Disappointed with service and the quality of food at Jamie's. Waited for over an hour for starters and mains to arrive. When it arrived it wasn't the usual quality known at Jamie's.
Shakeerah Abrahams
We have always been wanting to visit this restaurant mainly cause itā€™s Jamie Oliverā€™s.

We had a nice Sunday afternoon lunch with pizza, pasta and a salmon dish.

The food was enjoyable and tasty however I wasnā€™t really overwhelmed .. and expected it perhaps to be more extraordinary... my favorite dish I had was definitely the pan-fried salmon on the black rice šŸ‘

The location and setup is really nice and relaxing ideal for lunching with family or friends
Cassandra Delacovia
Did not meet our expectations at with regards to the food. Great set up. Poor food that was way over priced. We expected a lot more especially after seeing the limited menu. I would not go back.

We went to Jamie's to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had pizza and pasta and both were terrible so we didn't finish the meals and took them away. When we opened the take away the very next morning the veggies on the pizza had moulded. 2 days later and I'm extremely unwell of course and now have to pay for a doctor's appointment because of this food. What a way to ruin people's birthdays.

I will admit to being a bit bais because I LOVE Jamie Oliver and probably any concept related. So when I heard about this place I RUSHED over there and after all 3 visits I really still am inlove with the place. I love the ambience inside, itā€™s somewhat intimate (that lighting is EVERYTHING) yet open. The best Negroni in Johannesburg according to me - the meatballs I had on my 1st visit were delicious but not close to great on my 2nd visit so there is a bit of a consistency issue there, so I doubt Iā€™ll be having any of that again. The linguine bolognese was BEYOND delicious. Oxtail lasagna was okay, lacked seasoning but the texture gave me all sorts of life. And the dessert! Geeeeezzzzzzz louisssssssse delicious. The staff is friendly, remembers a face (which is always nice unless youā€™re up to no good - haha) totally child friendly. I recommend it for a fun yet delicious family treat. LOVE LOVE LOVE and yes, Jamieā€™s Italian youā€™re forgiven.

Pizza is good. Pasta is good. All starters are good as well, theres a prawn starter that is really good, i dont remember what it was called.

Will not recommend the ravioli tho, sorry. 3/10.

Had a fabulous relaxing lunch at Jamie's Italian today.
The manager Tuli* gave the best customer service - attentive & sweet ! ( Jamie's management please acknowledge your manager excellent service ) .
The food was 5 star , my friend and I ate the most delicious authentic Italian pizzas - tasty and seasoned to perfection... Starters Italian nachos absolutely loved and the spicy sauce definitely a must ... Dessert was decadent chocolate heaven satisfying any sweet tooth šŸ¤©

Will be back soon keep up the excellent service and delicious food šŸ‘Œ

Food was really good, staff was really friendly and I will definitely be back soon. One of the best restaurants in melrose arch in my opinion.
Ikram Gabr
Exquisite cuisine, exquisite service and a lovely vibe, need I say more? The food is authentic Italian, ravioli al dente, the tomato sauce tasted like mama's, the freshness of all the ingredients was unmistakable, a truly great experience, and I will certainly be back.
Well done
Little Miss Rabbit šŸ‡
I had the Fico Al Gorgonzola E Spinaci
Fresh wild figs, baby spinach and Gorgonzola Cheese topped with their home made hand stretched pizza base pizza was amazing...plus I tried their Crispy Ravioli stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta and veggie parmesan, Served with Spicy Sicilian Tomato Sauce. This was something different with the ravioli all puffed up centre filled with cheese and a delicious sauce to dip

Went to Jamieā€™s Italian for lunch on 30 December 2018. We payed with debit card afterwards. The restaurant told us that the initial transaction for R880 did not go through on their system, even though it showed on my mobile. We were asked pay again and should there be a double deduction it would be resolved within a day or two. Well there was a double deduction and after numerous calls to the manager and my bank this is still not resolved. The bank confirms that the money has been paid to the merchant twice and that the merchant should reverse the initial payment. After 24 days and many empty promises Iā€™m still waiting for a refund. A quick lunch ended up costing R1760.

Normally, I'm not a big fan of Italian food as a dinning experience, I would rather have it as a take out food. Jamie's however impressed us with the best pasta and pizza we've had. The food is well flavoured and perfectly balanced. The staff are friendly and efficient with a good eye for detail. Overall, it was a great experience, we'll be back.
Michelle Greyling
Was looking forward to an evening at Jamieā€™s, arrived at 20:50 to be informed by the uninterested hostess, that the kitchen is closed. There is no interest in potential customers, perhaps the fact that it Boxing Day, the staff would rather be home than be at work. Iā€™m so disappointed.
Nicole De Castro
What an amazing experience at Jamieā€™s tonight!
Great food, amazing service and the atmosphere was just perfect. The seafood pasta was mouth watering and the oxtail lasagna was to die for!!! Definitely coming back!

Warning! It would be difficult for you to be satisfied with any other #garlicbread or #thincrust #fungimisti #pizza after having it here! Superb is an understatement ā¤ļø

3.5 stars!

So I flip-flopped between a 3 and 4 for some time. I love Jamie Oliver and his quest to promote wholesome, healthy food.Ā

His restaurant is beautiful and the vibe is warm, family-friendly and cosy and the service is great and staff are eager to help.Ā However, the food is a little on the pricey side for what you get.Ā

The vegetarian options are not the tastiest. I enjoyed the starters and mains but they were average. The few times I've been, I've left slightly disappointed with the quality of food.
Ornella Katanga
Amazing food, great service (we must have had the best waiter), Everything was so yummy (with delicious and generous portions). We dug right in so did not even have time to take pics of the well presented food. It was my moms birthday, we did not pre book nor organize anything in advance with the restaurant for the celebration. I mentioned to the waiter that it was my moms birthday when we arrived and they organized a lovely surprise which made her so happy, we did not expect that at all. The singing and dessert was lovely thank you so much for going the extra mile. We will definitely be back soon

I went to Jamie's Italian for my birthday last Saturday. The food and service was great. Chicken dishes were divine. Oxtail lasagne lacked the oxtail. Overall awesome experience. Will definitely be back!!!
Adinda Visagie Robbertse
Went once and did not want to go back as the food was such a let-down. Thought we would give it another try and again ... food so disappointing. Really, really bad. Service is excellent ...But that doesnā€™t help if the food is so very poor. Salmon and black rice ... just ... no!!
Sorry Jamieā€™s ...
It was my sisters birthday brunch.Ā We got a warm welcome, the ambiance was great, the food was dry! my burger was extremely dry.. amĀ disappointed

This place is highly recommended, great food and excellent service. We had the Italian nachos starter and prawn pasta, it was a great start to my Jhb holiday!
Joyce Keung
We were served by the friendliest waiter. His name is Tony. He knows the daily specials so well and he described it in such an amazing way that makes you really want to try it! The service he provided was amazing!
The food was delicious too! Not like every other pasta place youā€™ll find in Joburg. Definitely will come back!
Mark Quig-Hartman
Wonderful dining experience. Excellent food. Large portions. Great value. Manager and waitstaff were fabulous and friendly. Kudos! Would eat here again if given the opportunity.
Mighalis Gallias
The food was ok but the service was rather poor. The table had a fairly good experience but it was nothing amazing. The portions were small and the flavours were a bit acidic. We went there to say we had eaten at Jamie's. Mission accomplished. Won't rush back.
Nadine Pretorius
Was my friend Refiloeā€™s birthday yesterday and we celebrated at Jamieā€™s. Food was good, service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I love Melrose Arch, such a feel of being in Europe walking about
Mymoena Ismail
Good atmosphere. Italian pizza was great especially the fungi misti eaten with chillies. The staff are experienced. Great place. Great value for money.
Gabrielzaidman02
After a terrible first experience at this restaurant, we decided to give it another try, and our opinions have not changed. The service was incredibly slow and the food lacked flavor and was really below average, I was expecting a lot better from such a highly-rated restaurant! In my opinion this restaurant is very over-rated and over-priced, we will not be returning.
Reshmi Muringathuparambil
Absolutely loved the friendly and efficient service we had at Jamie's Italian. For a large group (20pax), they did remarkably well - with very short waiting times and food that didn't seem rushed in the least. The pizzas were completely gobbled up and the pastas were delicious. There is a lot of variety and options, too. Lovely space! Would highly recommend.
Chrizelde Pienaar
I was looking forward to try out Jamie's but sad to say, it was just okay, i had to make a booking long before, and did say it was for a birthday. There was a famous TV presenter behind us, and i felt that they just really didn't care about us , after telling the floor manager, he said my husband can have any dessert on the menu, my husband has a nut allergy, and there was nothing, they couldn't even make a plan, the food was also not the best,. I was so disappointed šŸ¤”
Mish
Rather disappointed with my starter and main. I had the buttermilk calamari, although it was cooked well the accompanying sauce was very bland, for mains i had the spaghetti carbonara and was even more disappointed, it was very dry. With all the hype i expected the food to be full of flavor. The decor is nice but i doubt i will go again
Vutomi Mabunda
Honestly the food was amazing, the restaurant looks opulent as well. I get put off by bad service. The food could not make up for the lack of attention we got.
Adele Du Toit
Fabulous decor and ambiance, service top notch. Garlic bread starter was absolutely out of this world. Pizza was great, star of the night was the T bone. You must order the salsa verde with itšŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹šŸ˜‹. Lovely touches, like branded toilets and surprises in the bowls šŸ¤Ŗ. Yes, really
Wilhelm Nauta
Food was very good, as was the service. We had the line fish (hake) and the T bone steak. Steak was juicy and grilled to perfection, and the hake was covered in a tasty sauce. Dessert was delicious too.
Jillian Nyakane
Oh my god!!! I had such high expectations and I was bitterly disappointed by the food:( I still canā€™t believe it. I was so excited to bring my friend of 8 year to Jamieā€™s, he is currently visiting Joburg. He had the oxtail lasagne and he didnā€™t enjoy it. He didnā€™t finish his food. I had that classic super good salad that seemed yummy on paper:( it lacked so much flavour.

The ambiance is great, Theo kept on saying ā€œwow, this place is coolā€ The decor is inviting and warm - did you see the branded toilet!! Itā€™s so awesome!!!
Hazel Moyo
it's a good restaurant with great aesthetics & a good vibe. I initially wanted to get the lamb shank but it hadn' been delivered so I got a steak instead. the steak I had initially ordered was a medium to well & I received a medium close to rare steak. it's a good restaurant maybe another try will come with a different experience.
TerryP801
A beautiful restaurant, lovely decor. The food was absolutely magnificent every dish that was ordered was amazing. Service was excellent too. A definite must when in Johannesburg.

13.07.2018 Since Jamie's first opened i have always heard conflicting reviews which made me hesitant to visit as well as the struggle to get a booking. They recently launched a new menu and now i finally got around to trying them out, and sadly cant compare to the initial menu.

I like the setup of the restaurant, it has character. Our waitress Zinhle, was friendly and helpful with our noisy table. We opted for a few starters to share amongst our colleagues. The Arancini (Tomato & Mozzarella Risotto balls with Garlic & Basil), Mushroom Fritti (Herby breadcrumbed Portobello & Oyster mushrooms with Garlic Mayo), Polenta Fries (Rosemary & Parmesan) and the Ultimate Garlic Bread (Warm artisan Buttermilk buns, herby garlic butter, veggie Parmesan & Rosemary)

We were all highly impressed with starters. Everything tasted fresh, full of flavour and delicious. We couldn't fault anything, we even ordered a second Garlic Bread as it was THAT yummy.

As for mains, my colleagues were disappointed that there was no chicken option under the pasta section. So they ordered the Wild Mushroom Fettucini and just asked to have Chicken added (Wild mushrooms with mascarpone, garlic, chilli, white wine & Parmesan), another 2 had the Seafood Bucatini (Sustainable Fish, Mussels & Squid with Cherry Tomatoes, White Wine & Chilli), 1 x Fiery Calamari (Flash-cooked baby Squid, Sicilian harissa, Tomatoes & toasted Ciabatta) with funky fries, 1 x Bistecca Alla Fioretena (450g free-range T-bone steak) and lastly me. I couldnt decided between the Oxtail Pasta or the Pizza's, eventually decided to go with their specials - The Artisanal Hand Stretched Pizza, with Crispy Mortadella, Roasted Garlic, Mushrooms, Calamata Olives with crispy Thyme and Aromatic Oregano.

I just added some chilli and feta. OH MY SOUL it was fantastic. I couldn't finish it all so brought the rest as leftovers. Needless to say it disappeared VERY quickly at home... so i didnt even get to have the leftovers. All my colleagues thoroughly enjoyed their meals.

For dessert i tried the Cheesecake - Velvety Mascarpone & Lemon Cheesecake topped with Italian Meringue, served with Lemon Curd & Blackcurrants. I wasn't too impressed with this, not sure if it was too cold or if it was just the Meringue and Curd that let it down. My colleagues had their Ice cream.

We all had a fantastic time, and even though i was hesitant i am really happy we chose this spot for our team lunch.

Love this restaurant! The food is amazing and full of flavor! The pasta is all made from scratch in-house which I love! Pricing is reasonable for a "brand name" restaurant. Be sure to make booking!

Good food !
Very expensive, fantastic service, great for a date night out or girls night out
Good variety of options
Loud inside but lovely outside (but not in winter)
Danielle Botha
Jamie's Italian is situated in the most beautiful avenue with fairy-lights strung up in the trees, creating a bit of a European vibe. The decor inside the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and well-curated.

Unfortunately, the service is not up to scratch. As we had reserved a table, it wasn't difficult to be seated, but once we were, the wait-staff ignored us. It took a while to get our drink orders, and even longer to even place an order for starters.

Luckily, the starters were amazing. The buttermilk squid is exceptional, as well as the charcuterie board. For mains, they did not have the ragu lasagne (which I truly wanted to try), so I opted for a seafood pasta. It was good, but the pasta pushed the idea of being al dente a bit far, as it tasted rather undercooked. The sauce, however, was divine. The pizza was very good, and the salmon with squid-ink rice is truly fantastic. The sorbet dessert was refreshing and delicious, but the chocolate fondant tasted somewhat grainy.

The evening we were there, the power was out in the area, but the restaurant had generators to salvage the situation. I hope that the poor service and occasional hiccups with the food aren't the status quo, yet it is also not professional to blame a power-outage. As it stands now, I won't be rushing back for more.

Good food but the service is atrocious. Waiters only respond to pressure once you bring it to the establishments attention that youā€™ve been waiting for ages for service. Only then does everyone spring into action. Lame. Donā€™t think Iā€™ll be going back. I could go in to some glowing recipe about their food but how do you enjoy that when itā€™s a mission to get the establishment to serve it to you in the least stressful yet most welcoming way šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø better pasta options exist in Joburg. Go out and explore šŸ™ŒšŸ¾

Side note: ordered an item from the manager. She forgot. Had to order it again. Ridiculous. Nothing is cheap here šŸ‘ŽšŸ¾

Unfortunately, my experience at Jamieā€™s wasnā€™t the greatest. I opted for a vegetarian pizza and I thought it was average and so was the service. In my opinion, nothing to write home about and I wonā€™t be back anytime soon.

I went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. It is a bit tough to cater for a large group but our waitron was friendly and patient. The food was delicious and I really enjoyed myself. My favorite so far: crispy squid!!! Try it, one of the best Iā€™ve had ;)

Nice vibe, good menu but not fantastic! Good bar with great choices! I like the decoration and good service! Good place to bring a group of friends. Will be back soon

Went to Jamieā€™s for Sunday lunch. The service was good but it took long for us to get a waiter for our table as all the waiters seemed to be occupied. It has a good vide and pretty kid/family friendly.

We had garlic bread first which was excellent. We all enjoyed it. I had a prawn pasta which was apparently not on the menu yet so I donā€™t really remember what it was called. It was under seasoned. They waiter had explained it as spicy/hot which it wasnā€™t.
But overall was a good experience.
Absolutely amazing. Went with my boyfriend and we LOVED every little thing. The food was hot when it arrived so much so that I burnt my tongue. But it was so delicious and worth the little sting. Drinks were delicious too. Service was a little slow. We waited quite a while for our mains. Thatā€™s the only thing I can complain about. Otherwise... it was fantastic!

Authentic Italian. Great for groups and celebration dinners as the ambience is warm, welcome and the ideal place for a big, bold get-together of family-love and good, hearty food.

Carbonara is very rich, but spot-on and the Springbok ragu is mouth-watering.
Yuvthi Harrielall
For starters we shared the garlic roll. This was the most mouthwatering buttery goodness of a garlic roll that I have ever tasted!!!
Had the prawn pasta. It was good however I felt it was slightly sour and would have enjoyed the pasta with a more creamy base.
A friend had a steak and it was cooked to perfection. The knife sliced through the meat like butter.
Would love to go back.

Perfect for a date night and for company.
Suhail Alli
Poor customers service and food quality is below par. Hot drinks were served cold. Food was undercooked.
The price is not worth what you get.
Wow wow wow!
Visited Jamieā€™s for the first time and what an amazing experience. Beautiful place with rustic decor, we booked a booth upstairs which was great for date night. Our waiter was very helpfull and friendly and has great recommendations. We had the nachoā€™s for starter which was amazing. I could have that every single day! The salsa served with the nachoā€™s was perfect! For main we had the lamb shank special and the fungi pasta
What a treat! Wholesome delicious food! The meat was falling off the bone and melting in the mouth with a garlic onion infused mash with crispy baked top. The pasta was some of the best Iā€™ve ever had - creamy, fresh pasta and the breadcrumbs on top gave it that extra crunch that you want with pasta! We were so full we didnā€™t even have chance to have dessert!
Next time we visit Jamies we will arrive with empty stomachs ! Until next time šŸ“

We went for dinner at the popular Jamie's Italian in Melrose Arch. This year it celebrates two years of feeding Joburgers. I was happy but sad to hear that in a few weeks time, they will be launching a new menu. Hopefully if you are a regular here, they wont remove some of your favorite dishes.

To start the evening off, we had a Party Starter Plank, filled with some of the favorite tasty starters that are on the menu. One that caught my attention were the crunchy Italian nachos, made out of ravioli pieces, filled with soft cheese. I could easily order this as a take away, before movie night. Another highlight was the rice balls (Arancini Margherita). They were spicy but not hot. Fried but not oily, these too were a real treat. A selection of cold meats and olives accompanied the crispy calamari and fresh breads.

For mains I had the prawn linguine aglio Ć© oliio. The pasta was done to perfection. The sauce had a pleasent zap from the chili, but wasnt at all overpowering. The prawns were generous and even though I thought I wouldnt finish it, I managed to eat the full portion.

Surprisingly there was still space for tirimisu. Sadly the coffee was over after four sips and I still had a well sized portion of tirimisu left over. Not that I'm complaining - nothing like tirimisu for lunch the following day.

The place was packed and there was a nice vibe in the air. I was surprised to see the upstairs bar and private rooms, ideal for birthday parties.
Marcia
A much anticipated visit and I was not disappointed. The restaurant itself is beautifully set up. Reserved a booth upstairs which is more intimate, perfect for date night. Starters were crispy Italian nachos which were different and surprisingly good, as well as the crispy squid which was extremely delicious. Pasta and steak mains which were both equally good. Pasta was creamy and rich and steak was cooked to perfection. Definitely worth a second visit.

Beautiful restaurant. And so attentive managers walking around, asking if everything was alright and always visible!
The garlic bread for starters is a winner!!! Soft as cotton wool.
We had a veg pasta, added chicken. Fiery Veg pizza, added salami.
There is not alot of choices on the menu, and most items vegetarian and nowhere does it say you can add chicken or beef or salami and the cost.
So if we didn't ask if we could add the chicken and salami, we would not have known.
Had to have the tiramisu, our favourite dessert ever! . Not the best as it had a citrusy taste, not to my liking.
Had to go try a celebrity chef restaurant. Service was excellent and the food was good, tasty and well presented if slightly pricey. Starters of crispy calamari and crumbed mushrooms were especially tasty although the mayo was fairly tasteless. Mains lasagne and mushroom fetuchini were good.

Still trying to understand what the celebrity chef hype is about and maybe it creates far too unrealistic expectations regarding what to expect as the food was good but not great or special. Even if there was no name attached I would still visit again for some nice Italian fare.

After dinner last nightĀ we have just one word, disappointing.Ā After seeing some good reviews we went back after not eating there since they opened. Managed to secure a booking on the same evening, means they not as popular as they used to be. The food was below average and overpriced for what we received. Wife's Pasta was so salty she could not finish it. The waiters service was good but why do three managers have to come andĀ ask if everything is OK-becomes intrusive. Guess wont be going back in a hurry

Came here for my sisters birthday - the waiter was lovely in surprising her with a little ice cream treat on the house for her special day which was wonderful. The food to me was well priced and portioned for Jamies - I expected the food portions to be a lot smaller - prices are a little more than usual but it is Jamnies after all. I do still think the quality of the food was great. The venue was great - have been twice both times I have sat outside but the atmosphere was still great and you don't get forgotten out there - All of us went for pastas options - and every dish was worth it

The staff where friendly and the place looked amazing. The food arrived hot and well presented and the taste "mind blown". It was a great experience. Well done!!
ReneĆØ K
What a disappointing experience. Without a doubt the worst pizza. Also tried their rosemary fries and all I got was over cooked hard fries with so much salt it. The service was good with a friendly waitron. The atmosphere, decor and toilet facilities are great though. Just make sure you stay sober as the staircase is tricky and navigating your way to the ladies could be a challenge if you have one too many.

What a great meal and over all great time! Busy, noisy, vibey and delicious food too! Attentive service from well trained staff overseen by owners/ managers makes a superb experience. One pasta was over salted which we really mentioned in passing and it was dealt with brilliantly- no drama no fuss but lots of humor and a manager who absolutely insisted on not charging fir the salty dish. This really wasnā€™t not our intention to have it removed from the bill but the gesture went a very long way! We will certainly will make this our local. Great restaurant in a sea of mediocre crap in Johannesburg. Thank you

After many happy evenings spent at Jamieā€™s, indulging in great food and incredible service in a beautiful setting I have been incredibly let down by exceptionally rude service.

Service is the corner stone of any premium experience, and tonight Jamieā€™s proved to me that customer service is not a priority. Itā€™s unfortunate how the attitude of one person can negatively impact the great effort of so many. I guess this is why your hostess is such a pivotal roll.

The positives of Jamieā€™s are many. They have a well curated menu, balanced but focused on what they are good at. The waitrons are friendly, attentive and add positively to the experience.

The food is incredible! The Tagliatelle Bolognese is something special and a firm favourite. The pasta is fresh and well sized for the dish, with the sauce bursting with flavour. Their fresh chilli is also something special.

Their desserts are great, with my favourite being the ice cream. Three scoops of deliciousness, usually ordered with nuts & seeds. As hard as I try, I cannot seem to skip this.

The setting is beautiful, with a vibrant bar taking centre stage in the ground floor dining area. This adds excitement and energy to the downstairs area, while feeding energy to the upstairs area thanks to the design.

All in all Jamieā€™s is a great experience, let down by by a key person in the team.

After having tried out Jamie's in Dubai and hearing amazing reviews from friends in Johannesburg; I was ready to try Jamie's Italian and decided to do so over the Easter Weekend. Honestly; such a disappointment; I have a couple of things to say (both positive and negative) and this is definitely the right platform for it.Ā

First the Positives: nice front of office staff (called me on the hour to check if I was still coming through), really nice atmosphere & vibe, well lit & comfortable tables.Ā

More importantly the negatives: Starting with the starters; we ordered the Ultimate Garlic Bread, the Crispy Squid, the Nachos and the Arrancini Balls; they need to remove the Ultimate from the Garlic Bread because frankly there isn't anything Ultimate about it; the starters in general however were at best OK and nothing to write about; the sauce served with the Nachos is definitely the show stopper. Now for the mains (and this is where the problems start); considering Jamie's is a high end Italian restaurant; we decided to steer away from the mainstream Raviolli's and Lasagne and Spaghetti Bolognaise; in specific we ordered the special which was a Lamb Ragu Pasta, the Beef Fillet deconstructed served over Mushroom Sauce and the Prawn Linguine; the BIGGEST non-starter out of the three was the Lamb Ragu Pasta; I have never in my life tasted something so disappointing; the pasta was literally something that a 18 year old 1st year University Student could make in his dorm kitchen; it was chewy, the cottage cheese in it was effectively a lump of the plain cottage cheese that you get at Checkers and the Lamb Ragu (god please don't even call it that) was non existent and was buried under a kilo of tagliatelle; the most unfortunate part was that two of us ordered this and therefore we had 2 kilos of bland pasta which we now had to ask to be packed away so we could feed someone who needed some carbohydrates. The Prawn Linguine lacked flavor and wasn't something to talk about either.Ā
To add to all of the above; make no mistake about it - this place is expensive! The prices of the specials are not revealed to you until you ask for it. And at R245 for the Fillet and R230 for the Pasta and R150 for a glass of Paul Cluver (please visit the wine farm and get the whole bottle for R110); you really would expect the A game to be displayed.Ā

I'd like to thank the manager who agreed with us that the food was hugely underwhelming and decided to take some items off the bill. We appreciated the gesture.Ā

I guess I'd like to come back to Jamie's just to see how they handle the seasonal Italian favorites and the more mainstream items on the menu; the specials are definitely beyond the restaurant and would recommend that patrons steer away from the beautiful marketing pitch. See you guys soon for some ravioli and lasagne (do hope that the items will be better).

Jamieā€™s Italian was our preferred venue for my wifeā€™s 30th birthday celebration and the team blew us away on every level !! We used the upstairs private dining section and the setup was perfect for us. Spacious, comfortable and convenient !!
The service and the food was world class... they catered for 50 guests and not a single bite was below standard we came to love at Jamieā€™s !!
The Jamieā€™s team were very accommodating on the day and went the extra mile to make sure our celebration would be one to remember !!

Thank you for a brilliant 30th birthday party !!
Great service.....but the food was pretty average, I had expected more from this place. I had the chicken and it was quite bitter from all the charred sections
Valentine Bilankulu
Great venue with okay - good food. Jamie's closes at 10 - 11pm everyday which means you will have to go elsewhere to properly wrap up your night if you want to pull an all nighter. Went on on a Tuesday and the ambience was great.

Extra ordinary not extraordinary. Everything was tasty but felt very commercial and not fresh. They do not have beer on tap even though itā€™s on the menu. The baby seats are all broken and the wait for food was very long even though it was empty. Rather go to your favourite Italian restaurant and give this a skip.
Taryn Kettle
Decor is warm and classy. Deli style area looks as if your in the heart of Italy. The ambiance has a feel of cosy dining with a delicious looking menu but what marks the restaurant down would be itā€™s mediocre customer experience. Itā€™s missing a touch of special... staffing need to be more interested their visitors.

We had a birthday dinner here for a friend.....I read the reviews(most not so great) for myself but decided to give it a shot nonetheless. The service was truly great I must say. From a food perspective, I ordered a starter of Beef Carpacchio and an extremely salty slaw(I was confused by this taste, maybe it's an Italian fusion), the birthday girl had calamari and chips both were pretty bland and tasteless, the final meal on the table was a prawn linguine(that was the only hit). We had a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl which was a fusion of ice cream, popcorn and a brownie, which was sweet but I did enjoy. The bill that we paid and the food we ate most certainly did not correlate(besides the Linguine). Jamie's will certainly be a miss for me , it's Extra hyped up.
I really enjoyed finally getting to Jamieā€™s for lunch with the family. Although there was nothing wrong with the meals I did find it wasnā€™t anything spectacular. My main was the spaghetti boll, it was different, found the pasta way too big for the meal (fettuccine) wouldā€™ve been better with linguini or Spagetti, my partner had a fillet mushroom plate and also it wasnā€™t filling enough (200 for 250 grams- overpriced) he ended up eating half of mine to fill him up. Nice to finally try Jamieā€™s but I do guess I hyped it up in my mind

Great meals. Very tasty. Drinks menu looks grand but I couldn't try anything as I was pregnant. Yummy desserts and nice for a romantic evening out

First time at Jamieā€™s Italian and not being the biggest Italian food fan, the food was enjoyable. For starters my family and I shared the Arancini Margherita and Mushroom Fritti. Yum! I could probably just eat a selection of their starters.

For mains I had the aubergine parmigiana. This was okay. I have had better before but thought the baked twisted garlic bread on the side was the perfect touch to scoop up the tomato and basil sauce.

To finish it off, we all shared the cheesecake, something to hit the sweet spot.

All in all, I enjoyed the atmosphere and experience but do think it is your classic Italian restaurant.

Average food. Average service. Better Italian places for less. Really didn't enjoy. We had to wave our waiter down numerous times. The order was wrong as they sold out and didn't know. Just an average night.
Suzanne Strydom
If I could, I would probably give a 3.75... Went here over the weekend for dinner, and had a nice evening. Decor- nice. Food- nice (had the Italian nacho's, Carpaccio and Lasagne). Wine list- nice. Service- nice. But not great. Possibly influenced a bit by the fact that we were seated in a spot by the windows at the back which made it almost impossible to hear each other. Will be back to try some more things (and hopefully sit in another spot...)

Fabulous in every way, freshest ingredients, delicious food, exemplary service from our waiter Moses, the restaurant is unpretentious and has a relaxed and welcoming vibe and the cocktails are top notch too!
Feroz Bhamani
I had the Arabiatta Pasta there, and it was great. They have good variety of options to choose too. The service was spectacular, and the vibe of the restaurant is very cosy and comfortable. Great experience all in all!

Very limited menu. Over priced for what you are getting. The squid starter was very bland and the mayo dip had a strange strange taste to it. My lamb chops were very fatty with hardly any meat on them. The chocolate desset was the only part of the evening I enjoyed. Love Jamie as a chef. Have all his cookbook but this resturant was so disappointing.
Reshigan Moodley
Visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening. Cannot comment on the ambience as we were seated near the waiter station behind the bar - so the noise levels were ridiculous. We ordered the Lamb Chops and Mushroom pasta dishes. The lamb was delicious and cooked to perfection, although the 3 chops does not justify the price. The pasta was the biggest disappointment as it was dry and devoid of any sauce. Had to be sent back to the kitchen. Our waiter was also absent and only saw her at the start and when she brought the bill. As a result we were not offered any Parmesan cheese for the pasta although tables around us received. Overall a very disappointing experience and would rather visit Gemelliā€™s.
Millicent Osei-owusu
Great atmosphere and good vibe. Food is alright. I didn't get my original order because they were out. But the chilli was good. All in all it was good
Scott Murray
Service needs an overhaul as waitrons lack customer focus. Food good, a tad pricey for the dishes. Good atmosphere for a fun evening out, just be prepared to pay a premium for the "brand"
Anthea Chittenden
Visited on numerous occasions, from romantic dates (make sure not near the pizza station as rowdy), birthdays and business lunches (upstairs). Praises and recommendations on their antipasti, from the Worlds Best Olives to the Crispy Squid, all starters are tasty, well presented with personalized touches. Salads are generous portions. Pasta mains, a firm favourite being their legendary Prawn Linguine, add a touch of chilli toĀ spice things up, ask about the daily specials, recently enjoyed a fillet on a bed of creamy mushroom pasta. Criticisms of the pizza, which has been a consistent letdown, bland, doughy, and sorry to say had a manufacturedĀ taste to it. On all visits, the pizzas have been negatively received, on one occasion the Funghi Misti being sent back. The decor is comfortable and classy, the upstairs flooring and washrooms are extraordinary. Thumbs up for fab and friendly service.
