Review Hello Tomato Bryanston - Johannesburg

Samantha Smith
We love ordening from this store. Service is always great and friendly too. I'll be honest, the surrounding area felt slightly unsafe at night when I drove to them this week, but it was load shedding and very dark so just my own paranoia I suppose. They really do make pizza perfect and one can tell they have great teamwork!
Marlene Muller
Hands down the best pizza and service in Sandton. Brilliant, thank you.
Vivienne Sandercock
I have been using Pizza Perfect in Petervale since they opened their doors around 15 plus years ago. Service is always good with front of house staff knowing their excellent products.
Ricardo Correia De Araujo
Mr Delivery let them down by delivering inedible pizzas. The manager Nati phoned me non stop to sort the pizzas. He was not having it. I got the pizzas i wanted. Customer service at its finest. Well done!!!
Clint Miller
What an amazing take away place. Food is alway of best quality... The manager is on point and so friendly, any problem she sorts it out. Will be back for more... Great staff all round.

The newly revamped Pizza Perfect is great. The pizzas taste better, the service is great and we're so glad we can get yummy real oven baked pizza so close to home.
SIMPHIWE Mkhwanazi
It's a friendly place. The workers there are always smiling. They make great pizza while you wait. I ordered a godfather pizza which was prepared while I waited and I loved it. My wife loved it too.
Shera Deavall
The best pizza in town! Always delivered fast and hot. Generous toppings and our favourite weekly treat. Thanks guys, you are really doing a great job.
Ricky Bowman
Food is great. Staff can actually hear you when you call to make an order. Delivery is fast. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Mick Thackeray
We have been going to Pizza Perfect for many years and the continue to provide excellent pizzas. Our take out of choice.

Have never disappointed, very tasty pizza 🍕 Veg Exotic one of my favorites
Matthew Janse van Vuuren

Shannon Botes
Great pizza. Great service!!
Lloyd Johns
Absolutely amazing pizza! Service is excellent! Ingredients fresh and yummy! The staff are friendly and very helpful! This has become our favorite place to pig on delicious pizza! I recommend it to everyone! p.s a must try is the frozen custard to end of a delicious pizza!

Hello Tomato you can be so lucky your pizzas are amazing as I had to wait an hour for my pizza tonight which is absolutely unacceptable. Your store was not coping with the rush tonight and I believe Management should have made the call not to take delivery orders as your walk in customers suffered the consequences. You should have focused on your in-store customers and then opened deliveries once you were on top of your orders. Thankfully your front of house staff where very apologetic and were really trying hard to push out orders, I left your store a very unhappy customer but after finally getting to eat my pizza at 9pm all was forgotten as the pizza was still amazing.

Always been a fan of this establishment and their food. The treatment I just received telephonically was absolutely unacceptable! Such a pity when a place that makes incredible food has poor client services!
Cheena Maake
Best Pizza in town. Bubble gum milkshake to die for . plus my favourite Chommy lives hereïżœ Love this place. Hello Tomato.
Alex Swanepoel
My wife and I stay in Rivonia, 10 minutes away from your Bryanston branch. However, we would rather drive out to the Midrand branch, because the food there is much tastier and the management is much nicer.
Hasan Wadvalla
Excellent pizza and chicken and prawn curry
:D
No complaint: service good, food was good, never checked the price. Waiter was willing to change the pasta sauce to pizza sauce because I wanted it without onion

Charming little spot. Headed over for a Banting base pizza. Ordered the pepperoni pizza which took a little longer than expected to come out but I wasn’t in a hurry. It was ok, thought it could do with a bit more cheese to balance out the taste and texture of the base. Service was great and friendly. Will definitely be back to try out more of the menu
Makgalake
I tried the restaurant because of the positive reviews. I ordered the lean and mean pizza to go and was disappointed. The pizza was unfortunately bland and I didn’t enjoy it.
Craig Paul
My favorite pizza place at the moment. The Mary had a little lamb pizza is amazing. We always get the company size and its gets demolished in minutes. Pricy but worth it for a special pizza treat.

By far the best pizza! Value for money and great service!!! Can’t wait to go back to get more!!!! Food is always on time staff is friendly. Never had a bad meal ever
Camilla
This is our favourite takeaway spot - particularly on a Tuesday when they have the special half price deal. Great value for money and delicious flavours.
Helena O'Sullivan
Great pizza. Proper dough and thin base. The Osso bucco pasta was outstanding. Free sangria on a Sunday a bonus. Frozen custard a delightful surprise
Heidi Bantam
They’re a new addition on the Mr D menu. On delivery, the first thing I noticed was the box, which has a really nice design. When I opened it, the pizza was in a bit of disarray but the bright bold colours and aroma made up for it. The base had nice depth and the crust just the right amount of ‘chew’. The toppings were delicious, and lots of it.
Samantha Jane Cliffe
Best pizza and pasta in Jhb!! This is our go-to when we feel like take-away food. And the frozen custard is amazing. And they even deliver!!
Yajna
Wandered into Hello Tomato by chance today for lunch. They have a great Tuesday special, Any pizza and pasta and only pay for the more expensive of the two.
Friendly and attentive service and while I chose to eat in, quite a few people ordered take away or came to collect while I was there. Pizza base is thin with a thickish toasty crust - loved it! I ordered the "Lean & Mean" while a friend tried the "Falconette" we enjoyed both! Planning to make this a monthly stop, if not more. Would recommend!
Jade Ashleigh Grantham
Great pizzas. The crust was delicious and the flavours were really interesting. Service was speedy (we were getting a takeaway) Definitely going back to try more. - went back and tried more! Still not disappointed
Mmule
Lovely place for takeouts, personally the pizza is quite overwhelming but once you get used to it all is well.

The service from the staff is great and friendly, the desserts are also quite a treat.
The Schoeman Brothers
This place is tiny, but makes tasty and tomatoey pizza and pasta. As you can see, my brother and I had very tasty pizzas and the tomato bases are thin which make them crispy and delicious in my opinion. Recommend it for a late lunch.
Must Love Pudding
The Marrakesh pizza is my favorite! combining all that is right on a pizza. great service and quick turn around. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu.

There’s a “newish” Italian takeaway, Hello Tomato. I say “newish” because they’re fairly unheard of yet they were established some time ago. I’m really not sure how this hidden gem has managed to stay so undetected for so long. Hello Tomato is all about real, good, authentic Italian food that happens to be fast and convenient too. It’s so much more than just “fast food”.
Foodie Lover
Just got the Spanish Fly, over loaded, oily and tastes Sour can’t support them again I’m afraid, I keep telling myself that Pizzas just do not take away well, I have ordered take away Cold Pizza for the very last time.
Christy Lee Edmunds
The staff are so friendly and the service is great. The food is really delicious and the custard desserts are so yummy. Our new fav spot for a quick relaxed dinner

So in the past I’ve only ever ordered from the Kyalami branch which was absolutely amazing. Hands down my best pizza so when I ordered from the Bryanston branch I was super excited to get it.

More than an hour later my food arrived. I didn’t mind the wait and understood Saturday would be busy but the food arrived cold. The Hawaiian pizza was cold and chewy, the pizza also had hardly any toppings on.
I also ordered a feta salad. I am allergic to many things and had to list those items and I was happy to see it was exactly how I wanted it. Unfortunately though the salad was smothered in seeds (but really, it was a lot), the feta was tiny little hard chunks and the balsamic and olive oil dressing was mostly just olive oil.

I think Hello Tomato is awesome - I’ve had amazing food from other branches but I think something is off at Bryanston? From reading other reviews I can see it’s not a management thing but perhaps a quality control/kitchen problem.
Philanimari123
Worst “pizza” aka cheese on bread I’ve ever had in my life. I am so shocked, I took a chance because the shop actually looks enticing and now I’m going hungry because I can’t eat it this garbage. I suggest you go to woolies and start serving ready made pizzas. This is in no way the workers fault just a terrible pizza. That stuff on the pizza is supposed to be feta.
Sabrina Kennedy
Nice little take out style place. The pizzas are a little but thick for me but the pastas are great and they have a great special on a Tuesday I think
Ursula Van Rooyen
We had dinner from this lovely little place last night, it was really enjoyable. We have had pizza from them before but last night we all had pasta 🍝 it was really tasty 😋 I loved the spaghetti and meatballs. There portions are generous. One of the nicest Italian restaurants around.
Azrah Kadwa
Another lovely quaint Italian joint.
I tried the 1/2 & 1/2 pizza with different toppings. The pizza base is flaky , crunchy and the tomato is fresh and flavorsome. I also tried the baked mac & cheese which is topped with mozzarella and broiled before served. The béchamel sauce is thick and creamy and buttery too - divine! To end off I had the vanilla spun custard ice cream , it's very sweet but tasted delicious. Prices are pocket friendly.

We had a team lunch at Hello Tomato. It was amazing! Probably the best pizza I've had in a long time... The crust makes the pizza. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back for more.

Great service. Excellent pasta and pizza, great for take away or delivery. Like that they are open Sunday night. You must also try their frozen custard!
Wilmie Visser
Love the pizza and pasta! This is my go to place for a take away. I love the fact that they have regular size and company size. The food tastes amazing, and they have some unique baked pastas. My regular order would be the company size vegetarian pizza. Its Amazing!!!!!would suggest deliveries up to 11:00/12:00 at night.
Chantelle De Villiers
I placed an order for delivery tonight from the Bryanston branch. Was told the order would be delivered in 30min. My order arrived, lukewarm, 55minutes later. Not impressed with the service.
Neil Smith
Very nice pizzas with some interesting menu options thats not run of the mill. Service is great and delivery is relatively quick should you choose to not go there yourself. They have fun website to order from. Best of all the Banting bases are really good should you feel like a healthier option when eating pizza.
The Happy Pig
Unpretentious and brilliant. Food will beat most so called Italian places and at greater value. Highly recommended for a quick meal out. Limited menu but pastas and pizzas fantastic value

Great Service, Down to Earth vibe, Good Pizza.

We visited Hello Tomato on a Wednesday night for a friend's birthday after reading the great reviews online.

The restaurant is much smaller than what I imagined with only a few tables inside and the majority of tables outside. Very simple interior. It strikes me as a great, family friendly type takeaway joint but perhaps not a great spot for a romantic date night.

It was pretty chilly on the night we went and being the type of gal who gets cold in a heatwave, I got worried it was gonna be an uncomfortable night. Luckily they have those plastic sheet curtain thingymabobs that they pull down to enclose the outside area and make it indoors - I hope this makes sense... They have heaters as well. The waitress was on fine form and immediately made sure we were comfy. She pulled down those curtain thingies, popped on the heater and handed me a glass of red wine, needless to say I was pretty darn happy. We ordered pizzas but unfortunately they did not have the banting bases available. I was dissapointed but I proceeded to order the regular vegetarian pizza. My boyfriend ordered the Holy Shitake pizza.

The pizzas have a thin base but thick crusts. I love a thin based pizza so they were enjoyable. I suppose if you are a thick, doughy kinda human, their pizzas might not be your vibe.

My boyfriend enjoyed my pizza more than I did, and I enjoyed his more than he did. Mostly personal taste - I don't like olives, he doesn't like balsamic... We were dumb for ordering pizzas with things we don't enjoy. Lol. The pizzas were yummy but still think the pizza from Jolly Rogers is the best. Still on the hunt to find the best pizza in Joburg though.

The service was great. Our waitress was friendly. The pizza was worth the calories. Will be back on another cheat day to try the custard.
Himesh Mistry
Most people rave about this place. So I tried it. Must say there is more thin base than toppings. Interesting flavours but pointless if you can't taste them due to a lack of volume. It's sad as the concept is really great. I think they are trying to establish a brand and new chain however experiencing the challenges of managing cash flow. I will monitor this one and see if it changes. Absolutely great, no b/s service though

I've had to rewrite my review as I was unhappy last time when I ordered but still decided to give this place another chance and was even more disappointed.

1)I ordered a pizza with chili on it and I LOVE my chili but I don't enjoy it when there's so much chili that I can't even taste my food. It was inedible. I wrote this review and didn't receive any communication from the branch, is this the way to do business?!

2) I ordered the pizza with wild mushrooms on it and the chef forgot the olive paste as well as the sun-dried tomatoes on it and decided to add a heap of rocket ontop.

3) I ordered 2 pizzas for take away over the phone and specified no chili on it for my parents - I get there and there was chili on both the pizzas and had to wait over 25 minutes before it was ready. The manager apologized and gave me a drink while I waited but didn't help the fact.

4) hello tomato is not transparent about their R10 delivery fee ontop of the fact that I am then obligated to tip the dude who came to deliver the pizza. I live less than 1km away- I find this pathetic. If you can charge R100 for a pizza then like your competitors it's in your best interest to deliver for free!

5) There is basically little to no cheese - if I didn't want cheese on my pizza I'd order a focaccia for R30

6) If you are reading this and deciding whether or not to come here, just go somewhere else.
LactoOvoGastro
Probably the best Banting base I've tried so far. Not quite sure if you can call this a gourmet style pizza joint but certainly a notch above the regular fast food pizza places with good ingredients. Toppings are generous and pizzas really are full of flavour. Haven't tried the pastas as I'm quite content with working through the pizza menu for now :-) On the downside I find their online ordering system quite cryptic and perhaps phone orders for delivery are easier. The same goes for their loyalty card system..don't quite know how it works, but do look out for their specials on certain days. We managed to nab a buy 1 get one free!:-)

We were seeking pizza to satisfy a craving in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, when nothing decent was open, and made the journey from Linden to Bryanston to try out this little place based on reviews here. Delicious thin based pizzas that didn't disappoint in any way. They were crispy, light and full of flavour. Great service too
I can't comment on ambience as it was a weird time of the day and this likely more of a take-away place. Linden could do with a branch. We're seriously lacking in pizza of this quality. Yes Hello Tomato, that's a hint, you might make a killing ;)
Justin Kretzmar
Where to start - when they opened i had a lot to say about nice toppings but not liking their bases at all - since then, they seem to have changed the bases and i must confess that i now like their pizza's a lot (although there could be more toppings). However, for us, the stars of the show are the pastas, chicken strips, HT Salad and the frozen custard. Service is excellent & management very on the ball when it isn't.
Lara Segal
Best ice cream in town. Banana banana and lemon meringue. Great service with a smile. This is the place where ice cream dreams are made from.
Keneilwe Masoetsa
Firstly owner/manager not sure exactly who he is is friendly and very helpful always suggests what he thinks customer might like, I can never say no to the frozen custard. Their Feta Compli Salad is absolutely delicious for the healthy foodie and Tuesday is the best day for cheat day because there is a buy one get one free special pasta and pizza. I've tried several things on the menu and have not been disappointed everything is delicious!

Poorly run establishment. Decided to give this place a second try after a semi decent meal with poor service. Called for delivery, firstly took 10 minutes for the lady on the phone to take my address, manager calls me after 20 minutes advising that my address is out of their delivery scope but assured that they will make this exception. An hour and half goes by, no delivery, call to cancel and complain, the owner has no empathy and regret for losing customers and says it's not their fault that the driver doesn't know the area. We'll it's now their fault I will never go back their and give bad rating here and to friends and family. I reiterate, poorly run establishment with lack of customer management.

Ended up coming here after the pizza craving hit. Wanted to try something new and we'd heard amazing reviews about it.

Unfortunately, the pizza didn't give us anything to write home about: very bland and very average.

Ordered the Barbi and the I am Siam.

Not sure whether it's worth another try.
Tania Pinto Correia
Brilliant service! Delicious Food! Superb Management. Many other restaurants should take a leaf out of John Khoury's management style and exceptionally high standards. We are loyal patrons, and will continue to be so! Keep making such amazing food.
Gary Greenberg
If you are looking for a different type of pizza of good quality this is the place to visit. Their mushroom pizza is very enjoyable and the portion size is more than enough for one to enjoy. Even though they are not using a wood burning oven the pizza is well prepared. In addition, if you have enough space or wish to have a take away I would recommend a standard sized pasta to share. Don't forget to try the frozen custard as it is really delicious and comes in a few flavours.
Grant & Sam
We really enjoy the pizza here, and the spicy sauce. We haven't ventured past the Margherita as it's very good. Service is always friendly, whether eating in or taking out.
Kate
The best pizza base I have eaten.. light, crispy.. you can tell they take pride in what they do and the get the basics very right. Great variety of toppings, from classic to gourmet. Highly recommended from a very fussy pizza eater (PS: try the lamb and mint pizza) đŸ‘đŸ»
Ambiance, owners/managers very friendly and very accommodating.
Mosa Mashati
I bought the barbi for the short ribs and corn as well as the margarita, their menu has such a good variety of gourmet pizzas I'm actually pleased to have been given that many GOOD choices .
But , I don't know if my mistake was getting the food delivered but I don't get the fuss, it really really tastes like regular pizza , (gourmet dominos pizza to say the least â˜č)
Typical New York style pizza. There also wasn't enough cheese on it .
But oh well service was very good , I was slightly outside of their delivery area but the manager still called and said they'd agree to deliver anyway so I'm very happy about that.
I'll definitely give it another visit and try a different pizza, or two !
Caron Whitfield
Had this spot bookmarked for ages, and on the basis of the good reviews, I decided to recommend this as our Monday lunch venue.
The sav blanc arrived in a minuscule container reminiscent of the little glasses the dentist presents his mouthwash in..but the wine was eminently quaffable.
We chose the pizza's - Mary had a Little Lamb, and the Little Stinker and they were both superb!
Reeking of garlic and blue cheese and rubbing full tummies we decided to share a dessert. The frozen custard ice cream was delicious, the only thing I would change is to serve it with a real spoon, the plastic one cuts the corners of your mouth.

The conversation flowed, the food was good and the wine cold. Yup, I will come back.

Hello Tomato...I like pizza, and I prefer wood over pizza, so my expectations were low when I tried out Hello Tomato. I liked the setup and experience, it's "cool", it works - I got a take-away and already felt like going back before even taking the bite. The pizza...the crust is a bit doughy for me, I would call it gourmet Dominoes...maybe that's a bit harsh...it was good, I will go back, so the offering works!
Carol N
Great food and efficient delivery service. Ordered pasta, pizza and custard...all items got to me whilst still hot and cold for the custard. I was surprised by how good the pasta is considering this joint doesnt look like your typical italian restaurant. I would have given hello tomato a 4.5 if it wasn't for the "giant" penne and chicken "strips" (makes it all look a little artificial)- and if they had wood fired pizza (???). The custard is also not as great as its made out to be by some posters. Brilliant and clean packaging
Lecly Makterz
Had a very lovely afternoon , you can actually create your own pasta meal great service from Denis if I'm not mistaken its a very cosy place ,will be bringing my family here soon
Andrea
What a cute little gem tucked away in the Riverside shopping centre in Bryanston...service was on point and the Lean & Mean and Kosmic Karma pizzas were so morish and exactly what you want from a pizza ...fresh with a thin fluffy base hmmm
Melissa Marangoh
Love this place! Great pasta and pizza...the family size portions are just perfect. Service is great-you can construct your own pasta depending on what you are craving. We always make a stop on our way home and are pleasantly surprised each time.
Frances Cozens
Make sure you know what size you are getting as I ordered two large Pizza's and I get two pizzas huge boxes looks like I can feed a whole family! Spoke to Manager and he said I must call back in the morning! Spent R400.00 which was way over the price of our order when I ordered on the phone! Definitely nor happy!
Thiren Naidoo
Heard only good things about this place, and they were all trur. The pizza and online ordering solution is top notch, and the frozen custard is amazing
Zach
For a restaurant with a 4.4 rating - I was really expecting something half-decent, but instead, I got a meal that was half-baked.

Terrible would be an understatement. First up, the Bangkok Chicken strips. There's always the golden rule of 'don't go to a steakhouse and order fish' but rules are made to be broken right? Wrong. The chicken was under cooked, and absolutely tasteless. The sauce was actually quite nice and I was really looking forward to trying these. On the up-side, after I had scraped the panko crumbs off - my dogs seemed to enjoy it.

Next up the Margarita Pizza. A simple looking, thin base pizza - in true Italian style, except this one had less than half a spoon of tomato base and hardly any cheese. Now don't get me wrong, if this were a Chinese restaurant and I had ordered a pizza - I'd be more than happy, but Woolworths makes a better Margarita.

Last up, I decided to try the Bon Chovi on a Cauliflower base. One bite of this thing and I knew I had made a really, REALLY bad decision. The perfectly salted trio of anchovies, olives and capers has been overly complicated with a "pinch" or three of salty herbs. And then you get into the base... I'm not sure if it was raw or if it was meant to be slimy, but if that's the case - everywhere else I've ever eaten a cauliflower pizza clearly got it wrong.

Other than for the fact that it was really quick (15 minutes from order to collection), and that the lady who took my order got it spot on - it was a terrible experience all round.

Sorry guys, but you really need to change something, fast!

Brett Lindsay
My absolute favourite comfort food! The most excellent way to say hello to the weekend is "Hello Tomato" if you want the best pizzas and pastas and frozen custard and service and awesome, this is the place to come! Keep doing what you guys are doing!
G Makan
Loving this restaurant! Generally home delivery food turns out not at great as you expect but Hello Tomato has always catered perfectly for our expectations. Ordered the feta compli salad and it was freshly prepared and filled with great flavours and the company portion of their penne arrabbiata was just as good and can feed an army. Their delivery packaging is also great....
Natalie Lazaris
If your looking for a good pizza or a delicious salad, this is a great place. It's very much a take away or quick bite spot. It's like a vida or roccomamas, but does pizza....I like it. Try it when you feel like a tasty meal on the go. Try the Calabreze. Hello Tomato
Michael Morton
Tried Hello Tomato today, what looks like a take away joint is actually SO much more!

had the chorizo and chili pizza and the flavors were great!! It's not a wood fired pizza which I thought would be an issue, but I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it!

Had to try the frozen custard after all the zomato reviews we read! It was really tasty...

Value for money, great efficient service and really tasty food! See us becoming regulars...
Alexis Andrea Azzie
Yum.... So delicious, super friendly staff. Definitely try it out. The tomato base is full of perfectly balanced Italian favour & aroma, with thin crispy crust.
Charmaine
Decided to give this place a try after all the good reviews. Unfortunately the pizza did not live up to expectations. - pretty standard fast food pizza. The service was fast and efficient though.
Christian.1
Hello Tomato is a clear 5 out of 5 for me. I have been to Hello Tomato now half a dozen times and each visit has been extremely impressive. Friendly staff, helpful management, super fast service (actually how is it possible that your food is ready so quickly - amazing) and then the food - top draw. The pizzas and pastas rival any fancy pants Italian restaurant in joburg. Those pizza bases and fresh tasty toppings make each and every piece a little slice of heaven. Good value for money also rounds this spot off as a clear winner over any of its competitors.
Anthea Chittenden
The branding is just awesome and strongly supports the overall impression of feeling warm and invited. Lighthearted touches with attention to detail fill this compact joint. I'm mentioning the Vanilla Custard first as it really is a must have! The flavors and toppings of both the Arrabbiata penne pasta and Kosmic Karma pizza were delectable but sadly the pasta and base were under done which put a damper on the meal. I will be back as to give it another try after reading so many good reviews perhaps it was an off day. A nice mix of different combinations for pizza lovers too. They are fully licensed with service easy-going.
Bruce
Been a fan since start up.....two weeks ago thought the pizza was a bit iffy .....tried last night again ....this must be the worst pizza I ever had ......undercooked base ...toppings very skimpy ....paid for extras .ham olives artichokes ..what a waste of money hardly any on the pizza......you guys need a wake up call ....quality control very poor .........phoned the manger who did not seem concerned ...Good Bye Tomato
Tiffany
My boyfriend went to go and collect take aways from here 2 days before I left for holidays. (I'm in the UK at the moment)

I had the trim chic penne pasta and he had the me-hi-ko pizza! It was all fresh and tasty.

We both commented on how efficient the labelling system this restaurant has implemented is. Their system works in a way where it's unlikely that your order will come incorrect and things won't be left behind due to the numbering system.

Just a simple, smart and innovative idea. Will be back soon!!
Zoë Dorothy Brentano
Small but has adequate seating. Expected more of a restaurant but it was more of a take-out vibe where we ordered from the front cashier but got served at the tables. Food was really fresh. We ordered the Br'avo pasta and Hot Sriracha pizza. Definitely different and full of flavor. To top it off we had the custard ice cream flavor of the day, which was salted caramel and Choc OD Concretes. Service was quite quick, however it was pretty quiet. Overall different experience but I think I will be ordering and taking away in future. It was also different because it was the place my boyfriend chose to propose, so its a place I will always remember
Joel Hochstadter
Great pizza, great pasta, great milkshakes. The ambiance is small, modern and has a slight American diner feel to it that seems to blend nicely with the food! The food itself is probably the best version of fast Italian food I've ever had and I thoroughly enjoy the pizzas! Definitely a winner
Yanir Grindler
heard great things about this place so decided to finally drop by. so there a few things that I particularly love about this place - 1. You pay for your meal before you eat. (so it's like a take away vibe however with quality food) I love that we could just finish our meal and just head out 2. The doughy pizza crust was brilliant. 3. The frozen custard.

Went for the classic veg pizza - fresh, tasty ingredients, delicious pizza base but the crust was the most memorable. Definately try the frozen custard too, I just went for the plain vanilla and really enjoyed it.
Comfortable seating, friendly staff working behind the desk. All in all, a great, easy going, modest tasty pizza joint.
Will definitely make my way up to bryanston to try something else on the menu.
Ling
Never fail to deliver, my new favorite pizza choice! The menu is exciting to accommodate what you feel like. Salad, Pizza or Pasta... All equally yummy!
Cait Bodley
Amazing food and atmosphere. love it. Best Gluten Free pizza ever, thin and tastes good and that custard ice cream is just to die for. I think i have found heaven.
Pashnee Naidoo
Small with unique decor pizza joint, we ordered takeaways on one of the coldest Saturday's in Johannesburg. Vegetarian minus the basil pesto for me and Mary had a little lamb for hubby and chicken strips for my son. My son's verdict on the strips was yummy and and hubby and I enjoyed our pizza's. Being cold we did not try the frozen custard, so I will be back to try their pasta and the frozen custard.
Omnomnomm
Would like more veg options but with quick delivery and good service, this limited chain offering is a good choice. Consistent food, good prices, nicey niceness.
Michelle McCarter
Delicious pizza and great service. Everyone is so friendly. We had the chocolate frozen yoghurt which is something everyone must try. It was amazing. The perfect comfort food!
JKruger
We previously ordered pizza from Hello Tomato which was sub par. Tonight we decided to try their pasta a try. We ordered a company sized Alfredo - this was very disappointing. The pasta was still hard inside and the sauce tasted and smelled burnt.
Anisha Lutchman
Where do I even start? Hello Tomato is an awesome little pizza place with so much character! I've been here on four separate occasions - twice for frozen custard and twice for pizza. All four experiences have been excellent.

The names of the dishes are all unique and so fun! Their pizzas are some of the best I've tasted in Joburg. The toppings are delicious and the bases are thin with just the right amount of crisp. I especially enjoyed the Kosmic Karma pizza which was just yum and had loads of flavour. You also can't go wrong with a standard Margherita. What's also really great is that if you order a company pizza (which is huge), you can choose two different pizzas and they make it as a half and half. I also really enjoyed the Bring-home-the-bacon pasta bake. It was creamy and delicious and the portion size is also huge.

The highlight of my visits to Hello Tomato have been the frozen custard - an absolute must have and way better than any frozen yoghurt you'll ever have. My favourite flavour is definitely the Banana Banana concrete and the Chocolate OD comes a close second. The plain vanilla frozen custard is also a winner.

Seating is slightly limited as the restaurant is fairly small but don't let that put you off. The overall look of the restaurant is so funky and casual with its red walls and lime green chairs which give the space such a nice pop of colour. It's also exciting to see that more outlets are opening around Joburg. I can't wait to come back!

For a place with fantastic pizzas, I'm now sitting here in your store (8:42) having ordered for a delivery at 6:14 and now come to pick it up myself, order not done and still waiting. Have even seen you serve a group of about 10+ plus people and I've still not recieved my order. .... .. speechless to say the least

I've been to Hello Tomato twice and have had a great meal each time. The food is delicious, the portions are generous and it's very inexpensive. The only downside is that the restaurant is freezing cold at night when the door is open. No idea why

This is my local pizza joint and it's fantastic - interesting menu options including great vegetarian, and the pizzas are always fresh and full of flavour! Greenpeace is a favourite although the sausage pizza went down less well. The staff are really friendly and service is quick. A winner.

Awesome!! Just awesome!! The pizza and pasta were absolutely delicious!! Reasonably priced, the pizzas and pasta options were interesting and different and the food was well executed. Also had the frozen custard which was an instant hit with the whole family. Can't wait to go back.

The company pizza is huge, the length of two tables! You can choose half an half - we chose "Mary had a little lamb" and the Thai chicken. Great combination of flavours, not shy on the toppings. Their chicken strips are also great- tender and not oily. The real highlight though is their...

Went to a party at a friends house and what a treat it was to have one of these pizzas, the base was thin and crispy and ingredients were fresh! 😂 had a great laugh going through the menu, some of those titles are classic! Tops đŸ‘ŒđŸ»

Yummy pizza. We were all pleasantly surprised with the tasty pizza. An unassuming little outlet in the Riverside Shopping Centre. It offers a small seating area. The frozen custard milkshake (coffee flavour) is different but really good. It was a fairly quiet evening with only a few patrons last night. Service was not remarkable - frustrating since it was a very quiet evening. Service aside, we are keen to go back to try the pastas.

Absolutely delicious pizzas. Crunchy and nice thick crust. I would recommend the lil' stinker pizza, blue cheese, bacon, honey and thyme. So delicious! HAVE to try the frozen custards. Absolutely delicious! Service was excellent too.

Best pizza ever! Will definitely be back soon! Large portions for a reasonable price. Amazing and fast service. Will recommend this to everyone!

Food trends, like fashion trends, come and go. However, the past few years have seen a steady increase in healthy food and consumers’ awareness of what they are eating and the ingredients and cooking methods behind their meals. In line with this, we have rounded up a list of 2016’s biggest (healthy) food trends, as seen in restaurants, food publications, cookbooks and blogs around the world.

We had the pleasure of being invited to Hello Tomato during the course of 2015.

The concept of this restaurant is simply amazing and definitely on-trend. Take-away spots are focusing on presenting gourmet meals. Hello Tomato's food is of the highest quality, using the finest ingredients and incorporating creative menu items that are focused on sharing.

Can't wait for more of these to pop up soon!

Been here twice, both times for takeaways, and I think we've found our new favourite pizza spot! It's always a little nerve-wracking ordering a Banting pizza base, because you're never really confident that the kitchen isn't dusting the cooking surface with regular flour (and as I'm wheat-allergic, that would be a problem). Fortunately, when I asked this time, the manager was quick to point out that they use coconut flour for the Banting bases, tapioca flour to dust the gluten-free bases, and wheat for the regular bases. Much appreciated info, since very often when eating at so-called "Banting-friendly" restaurants, there doesn't seem to be an understanding of the different flour requirements (or that cake flour does, in fact, contain wheat).

Anyway, back to the meals at hand. My husband opted for Mary Had A Little Lamb both times. The first time I had the Barbi, the second time, the Ciao Sausage. And yes, we had extra pineapple (that's how they remembered me upon my return). Absolutely scrumptious - I normally leave half my pizza for the next day, but on both occasions, I polished off every bite!

Of course, it wouldn't be a Hello Tomato review without mentioning the to-die-for frozen custard. Dee-vine. My only complaint is that the takeaway containers need more tight-fitting lids, as they're prone to leaking during the mad rush to get home before the pizza cools and the desserts melt.

On my last visit, I discovered that they also serve gluten-free pasta. I'll have to give that a try, too!

Oh m geeee. The frozen custard is insanely delicious and amazing. I could probably eat my weight in it. Coming back tomorrow to get pizza and another frozen custard. I think I found heaven.

Hello Tomato is a cute little pizza joint. Their pasta is average but their frozen custard is something of beauty! I would brave a freezing blizzard for their stuff.

For take out Italian there is no better place! Fun family restaurant for unplanned, last minute dinners with great service and food to match.

Unfortunately I haven't been here for the pizza but I popped in for the FROZEN CUSTARD! An absolute winner!!! I recommend the plain, original version and not the mixed options. Mmmmm

Yummiest pizza , pasta and salad I've had for a while. Causal atmosphere , friendly staff , good service and clean. This little spot has a small seated section and I can imagine it does a lot of take aways. We shared our meals . Our pizza was bacon avo and feta - very different from your usual pizza, I enjoyed the crispy base !! Had a bacon pasta, was delicious and aaldente and a salad with feta olives sundries tomato and rocket , was very tasty

Hello tomato is a pizza revelation. There's all the old faithfuls with a twist and some new fantastic veg and meat choices and all are artisanallly made. We had a meat and a lamb pizza ( forgot their names) ... Both were equally delicious and we had it served with their fresh chilli which packs a punch. My only criticism is that I found the barbecue sauce on the meat pizza and the caramelized onion in the lamb one both a bit sweet. And I am not a fan of sweet food ... Geeking tomato is forgiven .. They make seriously great oven baked, thin crust pizzas.

An artisanal pizza can only be enjoyed with an artisanal beer ... Jack Black lager Served in a chilled glass ... Delicious.

Definitely going back there for their variety. Sorry Stella e Luna ... Won't be driving to Parkhurst for great pizzas any more ... We now sorted in the north

Went with my friend here after reading the reviews about 'Johannesburg's best pizza'. Hello Tomato did not disappoint. It is a tiny restaurant that is a wonderful place to grab a take away. The decor is cheerful and colourful with lots of warmth and careful consideration of detail. My friend and I got a bottle of red wine to share (which was icy cold- pause for gasp of horror) we also ordered lamb pizzas that tasted like a mouth watering Sunday roast on pizza- definitely worth a try. The highlight of the excursion though was the desert: frozen custard, 'what' I hear you gasp in envy and you should: it takes the concept of frozen yoghurt and uses the deliciousness that is custard (I would go back with a bucket if I could). Definitely give this restaurant a try, I am planning to drag everyone I know there as an excuse to have more frozen custard.

Yes! Their pizzas are banting friendly! We had the I am Siam pizza to share, really good size and extremely tasty, fresh ingredients, I am unbelievably impressed. The staff are exceptionally friendly and patient when choosing your food, quick to clear up your plates and all round good vibe. Oh my goodness! Have the Lemon Meringue custard, just do it. Don't ask questions. Well done guys! We will be back. Love. Jambo.

Outstanding!! The pizza was one of the best I have ever had and the pasta was excellent. The staff are friendly and the restaurant has a lovely chilled vibe. Well worth a visit.

Vibey little pizza spot in Riverside shopping centre. More of a takeaway feel but there are some tables outside. The pizza was pretty good. On the downside our pizza was supposed to have avo and they ran out, yet still made the pizza and just mentioned it as a "by the way" when it was served. They offered us guacamole but it wasn't as nice. Much later on our way out other customers ordered a salad an there was plenty of fresh avo in there. Just makes you wonder where they suddenly got avo at 9:00pm.

Best quality and value for money pizza I've had in a long time! The "standard" is bigger then your average large and the "company" is double the size!
Fresh ingredients and a thin base make it a winner. I had the "Mary had a little lamb" which was recommended and it was delicious, as was the "Kosmic Karma".
Only disappointment is that there is just one chicken pasta and there are only 2 beers (Castle Lite and Amstel) and 2 wines available.
Cari
I don't know what was better ...the dessert or the pizza! Had the chicken strips for starters...go for the sweet chili sauce😊 Ordered the Kosmic Karma pizza and tried the Mary had a little lamb....both were YUM! For dessert the salty caramel and vanilla frozen custard hit the spot!! To sum it up, food's great, it's reasonably priced and the service was good.

Excellent pizza and pasta also try their chicken strips. Kids love it and never leave without having a frozen custard which is better than any ice cream. Eat in or take out the food is always fresh, it has a funky New York cafe sort of feel. Best pizza in the area
