Had a lovely evening at The Local Grill, we were a table of approx 12 - This is probably why the food took quite some time. Other than waiting for our meals, the service was attentive and dishes were perfect! Not one unsatisfied tummy!

If you have to ask me what my favourite steakhouse is, the answer is easy… the Local Grill. The Local Grill is based in Parktown North and has been around since 2002. The owner, Steve Maresch, follows a strict “field to fork” principle meaning that the beef is sourced from the best producers and then aged at the restaurant and cut to order.
If you’re looking for a good steak, this is the place to come. The staff are also very pleasant and knowledgeable. Great wine list and pleasant ambiance.
Great steaks, high attention to detail, excellent preparation; especially the soft and succulent well done steaks! The timeline of when and how the steaks are aged (the more aged the tastier) all form part of the excellent experience ✨✨✨👌🏾
Best meat in Johannesburg for sure. The waiters know which meat is better to be eaten at what point and will always recommend the best. The 1kg sharing platter of fillet, sirloin and rump is a must try with shoe strings fries, onion rings and bernaise sauce. A joburg staple that everyone should try
Another place if you’re feeling like devouring meat. I ate the pork ribs and as usual had it with a baked potato. Always a winner! The desserts are pretty darn good if you find space for some!
Thank you to Innocent and the rest of the team at the Local Grill.
I took 3 friends and colleagues who were here from the Middle East for a Tuesday night dinner.
From the atmosphere, to the wine, to the kitchen tour - all brilliant - special praise for the food though - wonderful steaks and sauces.
Overall - a memorable night made perfect by the expert team at The Local Grill.
My family took me to The Local Grill for my birthday last night. It was my first time at the restaurant and I really, really enjoyed it.
We were taken on a tour of the testing kitchen as well as the meat locker. It certainly was a nice touch. We were now hungry.
We obviously all ordered steak. I had the sirloin on the bone, my two sons a fillet and my Mrs and third son had a t-bone.
I have rarely tasted a steak with such a depth of flavor. So tender and so yum. My only criticism is that I don’t think my steak was rested well as there was a bit of blood on my plate. It did not retract from the flavor though. My family really enjoyed their steaks as well.
To my surprise I was presented with a free chocolate brownie for dessert. Wow, I have never, ever tasted a brownie so lush and delicious. To top off a good evening I was given a free bottle of wine as well.
The food was good but the service was just superb. My thanks to the team at The Local Grill for making my birthday so special.
I will certainly be back.
Truly an amazing restaurant to frequent. The staff are awesome and friendly and the food is absolutely amazing. Want a fantastic steak, look no further.
Ok so I’ve had countless steaks here. Mostly to try and decide who makes the best steak in JHB. I’m stuck though. The Local Grill, Grillhouse and Wombles always seem to make a steak better than the next. However, Local Grill just manages to edge out the other two. I’ve yet to have a bad experience. The kitchen tour adds to the atmosphere, the service is always great and their steaks are unbelievable. I’m a big fan of a rubbed rare steak with no condiments and these guys know just how to get it right. Try any steak, they’re all amazing.
Loved the place the place the serve was amazing and the food also. We had a year-end lunch and they catered us lovingly
Thank you for the legendary customer service. The Christmas lunch was delicious, decor was amazing and ambiance was so fantastic. From my family to yours, a 5* is well deserving👌🏾👌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾
You must love eating meat to dine here. Personally I don't like all the cow posters and the fridge with chunks of vacuum packed meat at the entrance. If I'm going to have a steak I'd rather not see it before I eat it. According to my dining partners the meat is delicious and there is a wide selection of grass fed, grain fed options. I decided to have calamari because I felt put off the meat. It was delicious, charred with a sweet chilli sauce.
Incredible food with very informative staff. Had the grassfed fillet for 200g and it was so tasty. And just right. I had mash as a side but I heard there is a local alternative which is more traditional.
The Mulva cake at the end was simply delicious.
Cannot recommend more
No wonder this is an award-winning home. Very nice atmosphere, super attentive service from everyone we had contact with, spectacular steaks with many, many choices and always in two types of animal feed, loose in the pasta or with rations. We were invited to visit the kitchen and we had a brief and exciting explanation from the Chef of how they are bred, fed the animals before slaughtering and what this process changes in relation to the preparation and texture of the meat, excellent experience!!! A must-see for a delicious and unforgettable meal.
Went here for a steak because it had great reviews. Good choice and my review is also positive. The steak was top quality. My only negative point was the fries. They were so skinny that they had no substance
A wonderful experience, with the kitchen tour being the icing on top of a fabulous meal.
The restaurant has a bustling atmosphere with it’s large open windows facing the street. We took advantage of the Leffe Belgian beer on tap and enjoyed oysters for our starter, all of which was exceptional. The waiter happily accommodated our request to tour the kitchen, and received an insightful and well-presented tour. The three of us then had a fantastic jersey beef chateaubriand which was cooked to perfection.
The T-Bone was good. Not the best one I've had, my medium steak was actually medium rare. The dessert was good. The wait staff was friendly but they did get our order wrong at first. It was corrected however. Recommended but 4 stars not 5.
We had an excellent carpaccio starter followed by the grain-fed and grass-fed fillet steaks (grass fed was definitely the winner). I had a small issue with my medium rare steak, as it was a bit too rare in the middle. But our waiter took that piece back to the kitchen to have it cooked a bit longer. Otherwise it was a lovely night out and our waiter was top notch.
One of the best steak I have eaten was here. The boss also offers a kitchen tour and he shows the meat and introduces the different types if beef. When I am back in Johannesburg I will definitely go there again
