Review Cosmic Curries - Edenvale

Absolutely delicious kebab bunny and the sweet meat boxes were divine! Being from the 031 this definitely did the things. 7 years on and my partner and I still can't get enough of the Cosmic goodness.

Food was very tasty. The curry sauce was a little watery so could be made thicker. Kebab bunnychow is a winner.

My husband and I had a mutton briyani, vegetable briyani, mutton bunny, chicken bunny, Puri Pathas, bajas, samoosas and soji from Cosmic Curries over the past week. Every single dish was absolutely delicious and fresh. We have had some bad experiences with Indian takeaways recently but this place did not disappoint at all! The meat and chicken were juicy and fresh, they didn’t skimp with the quantities or flavour either. They cook Durban curries and we will keep coming back for more!

If you want to experience Durban Indian food in Joburg, this is the ONLY place to visit! Aboslutely brilliant!!

Cosmic serves the BEST Mutton Curry and Bunny Chow’s in Edenvale. The owners are welcoming and the service is unbeatable. The dishes are so generous with lots of soft meat.

Only found out about this gem yesterday.. already ordered two times now...

The food is amazing l, good size portions for the price, the curry smell and sting are there or ask for hotter, if you love hot food, please remember its a small family restaurant and takeway shoppy, but lots of heart, will definitely buy alot of takeway curries there, very happy and the uncle was very friendly and the service was amazing, thank you very much, best chicken curry i had in long time, thank you

Authentic curry doesn't taste like the pre made over thick source you get from thava or banjaras , I have the lamb biryani at lest once a week , also love the lamb bunny chow full of flavour and the meat is very tender also very affordable as if you got to thava you can spend up to R200 for briyani for one persons and is not as flavourful

Delicious. We literally just came from there. We ate inside - everything was so fresh and the vibe is so warm, cozy. Super well priced too. Thank you for a wonderful, heart warming dinner, Cosmic Curries!

I ordered a chicken curry and rice here via Mr Delivery. All I can say, this is the closest thing you can get to a proper Durban curry in Johannesburg! The food was absolutely amazing! Would recommend it to everybody who loves their Durban food!

Ordered the mutton curry. Meat was lovely and tender, fell off the bone. Curry not too hot but very flavorful. Plenty parking including for disabled customers. Very friendly service.

On arrival, the place was found to be clean and tidy. Once we found someone to take our orders, service was quick and friendly. Starter Samoosas were tasty but slightly on the smaller size. For our mains, we ordered the lamb bunny chows . Presentation of bunny’s can be improved. Curry itself, was very tasty, meat soft and not fatty, the hot factor was just right, and not drenched in oil. This establishment can improve their bunny chow offering by ensuring the bread, which is a key component of any bunny chow is fresh. They can also look at increasing the volume of the Curry / meat / potato to bread ratio. Overall, we scored the establishment 3 stars! We hope that our feedback will support the business to grow and improve.
86BR@Zs is a car enthusiasts group that combines car meets with good food. Not pleasant. I rarely write reviews but this is more of a warning. The butter chicken didn’t even resemble food - it was inedible. It has a weird, oily consistency - the sauce has split so something clearly went wrong but still served anyway. The paneer chutney was edible but very odd; it had no spice or even a hint of curry. This place has been around for years so clearly know what they are doing and perhaps we caught them on an off day but sadly one off day can turn customers off forever. I still shudder at the mental image of that butter chicken. I honestly don’t know wtf that was.

The portions are tiny and way over priced. The lady behind the counter was very unfriendly, however the man who served me to begin with was pleasant enough.
The butter chicken was tasty, but barely had any chicken. Also the roti was very doughy.
It won’t be a place I return to when I’m craving Indian food again.

Very disappointing, portion sizes are tiny and way over priced. When i brought this to the lady that served me's attention she was rude and very unhelpful i then spoke to the owner and he made such a scene, i was shocked that this was an owner in of a company with absolute no regard for good customer service, just plainly refused to resolve the problem.

i would never recommend Cosmic curries and if you do go there and have a problem with your food good luck trying to resolve the issue.

Before I ordered anything I told the waitress and manager that I cannot handle anything too hot or spicy, but they assured me that their special of the day, a masala mutton breyani, was not, so this is what I ordered. The presentation was great, but unfortunately it was VERY hot and I battled to eat it. To their credit, they went out of the way to bring me plain rice, yogurt and whatever I needed to make the meal palatable. I cannot blame them too much, as I am sure their taste buds are just used to their food, and the service was outstanding.
My partner asked me to specifically mention that he was pleasantly surprised that he found so few bones in his mutton curry.

Well to be honest for me this is my go to place whenever I want comforting Indian food and I am too lazy to cook it myself. Nothing spectacular but standards over the years never seemed to have failed me. I normally ordered their biryanis mutton or chicken (masala biryani or plain) depending on my mood. The portions are not huge and compared to other Indian restaurants in my opinion they are pricey but they deliver with the flavor. Also try their vermicelli for dessert !

Disappointing.... The food used to be of a high standard but the last two times I have been there the portions have been terrible and the lamb curry I had was not up to scratch.

Utterly unimpressed. The briyani was SOUR and the lamb curry upset my stomach within half an hour of eating it. It looked as though we had been dished the last scraps from the bottom of the pot. Nevermind that they charge EXTRA if you want your curry seperate from the rice? Seriously? Won't be back.

We got some take away dinner from Cosmic Curries and it wasn't a great experience. The lamb I got tasted livery, and the sauce was a bit oily but otherwise tasted fine. The butter chicken wasn't butter chicken, just a creamy white curry sauce with a weird taste. Again the quality of the meat was a bit questionable as well.

The roti was good, and the samoosas were decent enough. But I don't think I'll be back here next time I'm craving Indian food.

Excellent food, very consistent. A lot of people have passed remarks about how hot the food is and to be dead honest if you're going to visit a place that specializes in Curries then what you see is what you get.
Jessica
I know this is described as an authentic Indian curry restaurant, and some curries do tend to be quite hot, but I shouldn't not be able to enjoy curry just because I don't enjoy hot curries. I came in here this evening and asked for the mildest curry and the lamb breyani was recommended. The dish was so dam hot and spicy that my lips are on fire and my meal is completely ineatable, even after I was kindly assured by you that this was a mild dish. Don't lie and tell me your dishes are mild and " for everyone" when they clearly are not.
Secondly, my partner ordered a lamb roti which in the description thereof it is defined as being 'deboned'. We have found over 5 bones already, and this being only half way through the roti. One of which was extremely pointy ( seen in the picture), and could be chocked on if swallowed !

I don't think extremely angry and disappointed begins to capture my sentiments in regards to my experience of your food.

One of the better and more consistent Durban Indian curry places in Jhb. Ordered from here again after many years and happy to say that quality, taste, quantity and freshness remain good. The samoosas taste like real samoosas are supposed to taste - crunchy, full of filling and flavour, not oily. Beans missing a little something but still good. Keep it up Cosmic!

We absolutely love this place, it's our new go-to. The food isn't fancy but that's the beauty of it. It's simple, cheap and yummy and the owners are always welcoming and willing to chat. We've only ever had the beans curry, veg curry, veg breyani and potato samoosas but they're so good that there's no need to change it up too much. Can't say we'd ever order their veg burgers. They are also one of the only places close to home that caters properly for a vegetarian audience which is another reason we keep going back.

Used to buy from here. Last two times I bought was a disaster. One was a chicken breyani that had dry old chicken pieces. Second time was a mutton breyani that had liver pieces in it! I nearly vomited since I absolutely hate livers. Never going back.
Food quality has dropped considerably. Instead of a bunny we got dry bread mostly. The curry and gravy as you can see is not up to scratch. The soft bread was split between our 2 meals. Then we get to the bottom and see they put water to make gravy appear more. Very disappointed.

Decide to try this place out. Felt like a nice veg burger and masala chips which is my favorite. Waited for around 30 mins for the order. Specifically asked for a large chips. Probably could have counted how many chips were in the container. I would have paid if you had the courtesy to say the large is actually a smaller than normal small. I don't mind paying the price add long as I get a good meal and what I asked for. On top of that the food was terrible. Chips were rock hard and tasted like burnt masala! Maybe you guys knew that's why you gave me so little. Any way that's us not coming back.Gitika Waghmare

Felt for curry today and I was way too lazy to cook, so popped in here with a few friends for a nice curry. My friend and I ended up taking the chicken burger combo and asked for them to make it spicy. The other two had bunny chows one lamb and one sugar beans. The chicken burger was divine, very spicy which is exactly what we wanted, very little chips though. The beans bunny chow was very tasty but the lamb was so dry the bread wasn't even soaked, there was a reasonable amount of lamb pieces, small pieces but it was ok, the lack of gravy was unacceptable. The restaurant wasn't busy but we waited an hour before receiving our take away which was really annoying because the curries weren't even hot infact it was warm. A good place to go when you're desperate for a curry or when you're feeling for a good chicken burger.

We decided to give this place a try , ordered butter chicken and lamb Briyani - had to take the butter chicken back , extremely watery and bland with a few cut up pieces of chicken in it ... Swapped it for a lamb curry - also not great - the lamb Briyani was just okay and the naan we ordered was hard ! ... Unfortunately won't be back
Matt Short
We normally enjoy Cosmic Curry... But unfortunately tonight the meals were way over priced for what we ate. Bland watery butter chicken and a half bunny chow that was bread and bone. Not being super critical, just really disappointed.

This is our go-to currie restaurant! This is not quite the place I would go to for a date or to eat in but their food is well worth taking home when you are too lazy to cook. I can positively say that their bunny chow is the the best we have had in Edenvale although I would apreciate a little more side carrot salad. The service is always friendly and orders placed 15 or so min before pick-up are always ready and still hot. I would give my left small toe for their curry recipe.

Worst service I have ever had!, had to wait an hour after calling and arriving 25 minutes later. their lamb curry was just watery and overcooked.

A hidden gem for Indian cuisine...
It's a small yet busy restaurant, the light in inside isn't great so I'd suggest you find a seat outside(yes, during the day).
A few colleagues and came here for lunch one Friday and loved it, so much that we went back about three weeks later.
First Friday I had chicken curry with roti on the side, the roti was absolutely divine! Soft and fresh, definitely made with love. The curry was okay, they could've done more with it. I tasted a colleagues lamb curry and it was delish 😋
Second Friday we had Lamb Bunnies... Very generous portions, didn't think I'd finish it but it was so good, I simply couldn't stop eating. An absolute must have!
Another colleague had the Biryani(chicken) and polished her plate.
We ordered in twice more... First time was a disappointment, I had a roti wrap, the roti was dry. Second time was a hit, had the chicken Biryani and I'd have this over any curry any day!
