Review Glenwood Bakery - Durban

Have been to their pizza night twice now, and I am a fan. I love how the menu changes each time; the atmosphere, the community, petting the neighbours' 4 legged family family members- all of it! I would highly recommend one tries it, at least once. I would suggest you call ahead to book a table, as it fills up quite quickly.

For a first experience having this kind of food, I really enjoyed the experience. The ambiance was comfortable and so beautiful while sitting outside. The service was wonderful and the brownie (which I finished so fast), was out of this world! I highly recommend visiting this spot.

The Glenwood Bakery is the best bakery in Durban. Period. The setting on the sidewalk in Glenwood is idyllic and the crowd is eclectic and offers up a wide variety of patrons, a real melting pot for all the people of Glenwood. Booking is essential for dinners, there are hardly any tables available if you don’t book! But don’t let that put you off. Book a table, you will not regret it. There are also a selection of juices available but if you would like a glass of wine with your pizza, bring your own, which is great and adds to the experience. I’ve had champagne with my gnocchi and beer with my pizza, its very relaxed and chilled. Outstanding food. Outstanding setting. Friendly staff. The Glenwood Bakery is really the jewel of the glenwood restaurant scene 💎

I never fail to visit the Glenwood Bakery when I’m in Durban. It’s an institution, and you would struggle to find better bread anywhere else in the city (the Potato and Rosemary bread is particularly special). They serve great coffee and food at the cafe as well, ranging from toasties to silky fresh pasta, and top-notch bagels.

Had a wonderful morning for breakfast. Enjoyed the backers breakfast with coffee. The staff very accommodating and treatment with a smile and topped with laughter. Highly recommend.

This is definitely a little hidden gem, where you can smell the food before it arrives. Almost feels like you are in a different city. They have limited drinks and don't charge corkage. They are open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm to 9pm. All other days 6am to 14:00. Staff are extremely friendly. We had a magerita and Lahmojoun pizza, which was authentic, rich and absolutely delicious....you could taste the fresh basil on the magerita and the baby spinach on the lahmojoun...simply divine. They also offer fresh cold pressed drinks.....

Once we found this bakery, we couldn't stop visiting. The breakfast is delicious and the staff is just wonderful. Everyone was so pleasant, especially Latoya and Amy. I wish I lived in Durban so I could have coffee here every day. Next time I visit from the U.S. I'll definitely come back.

Nice place to relax. You can either buy some bread or have breakfast there. It's is very convenient. The staff are very nice and the food there is delicious. Would recommend if you want to try a bakery out

I've been avoiding this place as I'm gluten intolerant and bakeries serve bread with everything, but I discovered a gluten free chicken dish on the specials menu. Ordered it and it was truly yummy. Well done bakery!

Everything made from fresh ingredients. Their pizza is delicious - thin crispy base. I had a pot of orange infused rooibos tea. Good service and atmosphere.

Great breakfast, brunch or lunch spot. Good vegan options. Vegan toasted sandwich, falafel wrap and pizza. Oat milk and kombucha. Never disappoints.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but couldn't find a page for the glenwood restaurant. But my boyfriend and I went to the glenwood restaurant last night for dinner and it was an absolutely incredible night! I can't explain how amazing the food is! We shared the gnocchi with oyster mushrooms and parsley to start and this could easily be the best thing my boyfriend has put in his mouth. I've never seen him enjoy something more! I can hands down say, that they make the best gnocchi I have ever eaten. ( I have grown up on home made gnocchi) we then went on to mains. I had the ricotta and spinach tortellini with a burnt butter sage sauce. This was incredible! Perfect amount of food! Jono had the puttanesca pasta ( excuse my spelling there) which was fabulous! And I managed to squeeze in a dessert of Apple tartain with homemade ice cream. Was delicious! This was our 4th time there and it never disappoints! I can happily say, Glenwood restaurant is the best restaurant in Durban!!

Glenwood bakery has the best bread in Durban. End of story. Their weekly pizza nights ensure they also have the best pizza in Durban too. If you are somebody that enjoys real food, made with attention to detail that begins with suppliers and ingredients and runs all the way through to the staff that brings you your perfect flat white and heavenly cheese croissant, then Glenwood Bakery is a must-visit destination. Adam and his staff are superb and his baked offers sublime.

Went to the bakery for breakfast with the wife, I was blown away, the wife don't usually eat toasties and I got her to have one she loved it so much that she even went on to climb into mine, the best cheese with tomato and basil on freshly baked crispy toast the best toastie I have ever had and not to mention freshly squeezed orange juice to order.

Even if the staff were unfriendly (which they aren't, mostly). Even if they had kak customer-unfriendly policies (which they don't, they only have realistic ones...which lead to better bread ultimately). Even if they left their carafes of water out for days on end, gathering insects and maybe even mammals (which they clearly don't). Even if their menu was confusing and they refused to make your eggs at all (which they don't). Even if Carin wrote long obnoxious replies to my complaints (which she doesn't, probably because I don't complain). Even if all they did was make a potato rosemary loaf and throw it at my face....I would still go. Whenever I found the time. ;-) So waaah.

As a long-time, loyal and regular customer who always enjoys the Bakery's offerings, I got a bit of a shock on Saturday when I went to collect my Pain de Campagne - my favourite and staple fare at home. I found that the price of a loaf had risen, much more than the bread iteself was capable of doing! In May, before we went away on an extended trip, it was R60. When we returned in early July it was R80, and yesterday it was R120! That amounts to a 100% increase in just over 2 months. I can understand that suppliers must have increased their prices to deal with all the inflationary pressures they face, and that the Bakery must do the same to stay in business. But 100% in two quick jumps? I love this bread, but am not sure whether I can afford to continue to buy it at this price.

Glenwood Bakery have very little respect for people with food allergies who in their excitement at potentially finding good gluten free food in Durban might have overlooked a very poor taste joke.

Went to the Glenwood bakery for lunch, the manager served us. He was not helpful at all, we had trouble choosing what was offered on the menu, he had no recommendations and had a rude attitude!

Went last night for our second visit and simply love this place. The service, food, vibe, decor - all absolutely perfect.

The Rosemary and Potato bread was totally incredible. This was my first time at your bakery and I just loved it. The chilled vibe, the music, cookbook collection and a delicious meal. Will be back soon.

The Glenwood Bakery is my second home. Since I moved to Durban, four years ago, I go to the Bakery for breakfast, lunch and supper regularly. They make the best everything! And excellent coffee, bread and pizza. You can taste the love in the food they make. And the staff are the most amazing people. They brightened my day. Always smiling and very caring. The Glenwood Bakery is the place to be if you need good food and love.

Be it for a weekend breakfast or Pizza Night evening, Glenwood Bakery is an absolute gem. And really affordable. The vibe, the setting, the quality of food...and one needs to take a moment just for their Salted Caramel homemade ice cream!!!❤ will keep coming back.

My French wife has been telling me that I would have to go to France to taste a real baguette. When we discovered this bakery she assured me that there is no need for that journey. Loved the atmosphere and the sandwich.

The bread is wonderful. We drive from Umhlanga for it. Coffee is great and the smoked salmon cream cheese bagel is as good as a New York deli. Lunch sandwiches are really good. Very inventive like Tongue and mustard. Seating is limited but fun at the big table.

The eggs benedict is awesome and vibe chilled !
