One of the best places to experience that typical beachfront vibe. For a Joburg boy this is that place that gives you that relaxed feeling to simply sit, eat, drink and take in the surroundings! Fantastic service; quality food and all around great atmosphere!
Had a lovely Sunday lunch with my toddler. our waiter was brilliant and very friendly. the burger was mouth watering , my daughter really enjoyed the milkshake and the place is also pet friendly.
Surf Riders is like an oasis by the sandy beaches and it has a great place for business because of its location in between uShaka Marine World and the rest of Durban. It is because of this that we found it after leaving the marine world. We had brunch there and they have fantastic food. The burgers were amazing and so were the breakfasts. And don’t even get me started about the fries: they were thin and crispy with a cheese sauce I’ll never forget. It was the best cheese sauce I’ve ever tasted at a restaurant. Amazing place and I recommend its fries and burgers.
Perfect place to chill after a run on the promenade. Best for their burgers and fries. Quality and freshness always. Service is friendly and quick.
Great place to eat burgers and shakes, just around the corner from Ushaka. Friendly and snappy service. The Cheeseburger I had was fresh and the fries just right. I can highly recommended.
One of my favorite beach side restaurants in Durban. Offers chilled vibes, they play pretty cool music and the staff is Very friendly - great service overall. Love their food & the presentation. The cocktails are cute & taste as good as they look!
This place is my new burger haven, good service and the food is amazing. The portion of fries served with the meals are adequate but who can complain, they’re well cut and seasoned to perfection.
A friend and I went to Surf Riders for lunch today. I had fried fish in a taco and she had the ribs and calamari combo. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the portions. The fish looked like over sized fish fingers, tasted really good. The greens in the taco were amazing. My friend's ribs were soft but nothing special, tasted smoked. The calamari was ok.. We will going back soon.
The Surf Raiders Food Shack has a great location right on the beach promenade... on a sunny day the cocktails and selection of tasty food will be ample to keep you happy while you sit and people watch. Seafood prawn and linguine was full of flavour and very generous on the number of prawns and clams ... worth trying ... the marinara pizza ... crisp crust and wonderful portion of seafood on top , the base sauce was a little bland under seasoned but easily fixed with some of the fresh chilli oil they bring to the table.
Have a treapot for two ... then have another
Only disappointment was hearing they were out of Fish... seriously ... the ocean and the docks are visible from the entrance 😭
So no fish tacos... but will return to find out what they are like ...
Surf Riders produces consistently good food and they always have something interesting on their menu. Their breakfasts are great and cleverly done. Try and avoid getting into a tangle with their grappa. Brendan is a great chef and Sam efficiently runs the shop.
If you’re looking for a laid back, quality time out on the beach with family or friends this is definitely the spot. I had the Feta, Avo & Bacon pizza best I’ve had, with a watermelon daiquiri to drink. Service is efficient though it gets really busy. Definitely coming back.
I’ve been at this establishment a few times and I always enjoy my visits. My most recent visit was for breakfast, and what a fabulous way to start my Friday and weekend it proved to be. The restaurant is on the Durban beach front’s promenade and the combination of sea breeze, friendly and relaxed environment and good food was soothing to my soul. The breakfast portion was generous, cooked to perfection and well presented. This was complemented by stunning service from our waitron, Precious, who was friendly and engaging without being intrusive. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a friendly, relaxed place to have a good meal and enjoy the sights and sounds of the beach front at the same time.
An incredible eating place. Most atmosphere, right on the beach, lots of people walking, riding and running. Great food with a wide variety & ice cream is divine. Cool, on the ball staff, knowledgeable & pleasant. The bicycle is right up at the entrance, so everything within reach. Lots of affordable holiday apartments just across the road.

Would recommend Surf riders for there food. But unfortunately the day we went they were really busy and the host waiter did not know what they were doing. They gave the 8 seater to two people instead of giving it to a family. Making us wait even longer for a table. Our waitress however was friendly. Food was exceptional.
I've been wanting to go here for the longest time , and finally got a chance , it was well worth the wait .
The taste of Sam's cooking is etched in my mind FOREVER! you taste the freshness of the ingredients, and in all honesty, you hardly get that in most restaurants these days . We had surf and turf and wow !!! Steak and prawns , with the tastiest butter and garlic sauce , the prawns and steak were cooked to perfection !!!!! It was R295 but well worth it , follow Samantha (surf riders) on social media .... trust me, that's going to make crave her food!
One of my favourite breakfast spots. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is amazing, right by the promenade facing the beach. Seating arrangement inside can be improved for those rainy, windy and cold days. Bigger umbrellas for those scorching days. Apart from that, a lovely restaurant. Looking forward to the Ballito branch.

The service, from requesting a table to be served at the table was brilliant.
The menu has an exceptional offering, so different from the usual offerings, it made it hard to choose!
And we weren't disappointed with our fresh juice, iced coffee, fruit salad and yoghurt and toasted brioche.
Excellent food and presentation, very tasty too. Enjoyed a variety of dishes with family. All were good. Unathi also gave us good service. Thanks
Had a lovely experience here. Food was great and service was too. Only had to get waiters attention several times. Ordered calamari, which was fresh and light. Had a iced coffee to drink. Really enjoyed it I must say. The rest of the family had a pizza, fish taco and gourmet hot dog. The pizza was light and tasty. Fish taco was just one big taco but also delicious. Hot dog on the other hand was not “gourmet” necessarily. But was still enjoyed. The only problem we thought was that it’s a bit overpriced for type of cuisine. Was definitely a tasty meal but we felt like it was way over priced. Other than that I would recommend to give this place a try.
One of my favourite spots to share a meal with friends and my fur kids. For me it hits all the right spots.. amazing views.. beach vibes.. and absaloutly delicious food. I will always be back. Breakfast are amazing to the most delicious nachos.
