There are no words to describe how amazing this restaurant is. Very high standards. But from the moment you walk into Joops you are treated with the best service ever from the owners and staff. The food is out of this world. This is the only place in durban that we eat when we fly to south Africa from Uk. We look forward to our dining experience every time we are visiting. And what I love is that even our little girl is made to feel so welcome and her food is always a priority when we place our order.

One of the best steak places I've ever been to, great service, wine glass constantly topped up by our friendly waitress, medium rare steak done to absolute perfection. Will definitely be back soon.

Had a good experience here. Cozy atmosphere, with an intimate setting. The cheese and garlic roll made for a good starter as we were both starving- food was quick as well. The real highlight was the steaks - it’s their specialty. One of the best steaks I tried in a long time. I tried the pepper steak, my husband had the plain one that was equally as good. Shared a chocolate mousse for dessert. Will definitely be revisiting this spot
Best steak I’ve ever had. Joop personally cooks your steak and his kitchen is in full view with magnificent flames and aromas. The pan fried steaks are the only ones to have!

Being an avid steak lover, when I heard about "the best steak in durban" I had to check out Joops Place. On arrival the setup left a lot to be desired, one small low ceiling room straight out of the 80's, complete with hanging ornaments, cheesy music and enough khaki to start a revolution.
The food on the other hand was a startling revelation!
My husband had the Hollandse Beefstuk which was positively the best steak i have tasted. Crispy charred on the outside with a melt in the mouth savoury inner, flambed in brandy, made up the most tantalising taste and texture sensation. My Old Man Steak was meh, just meh. Go for the food, not the atmosphere.

All steaks prepared personally by the owner Joopb( hence Joops place ) Fir more than 20 years he has been at the helm. My steak was unrivaled in taste and presentation.
No starters, straight to mains - we ordered Hollandse steak pan fried until crisp on the outside flambeed with brandy. Outstanding. Raw onion the only side. I know sounds bad but delicious. The other steaks were pepper cheese and fillet.
Beware notice on menu " Not served medium well or well done "
Absolute must to have steak when you visit.

Once you had steak from Joops you regularly come back to maintain its blood level. Not a joke but pure regular experience for more than ten years.. An update in 2018. Steak as usual superb.
FANTASTIC!! This was the best experience ever. We got there around 19:30 and the place was so packed we could not find a seat. The owner's wife came and said we can wait by the counter overlooking the chef. We sat there, AMAZED!! You can see how he prepares the meat, whether it is on open flame or pan fried etc. He got his own specials and it is definitely worth a try! Steaks are perfectly cooked, warm atmosphere, friendly staff. HIDDEN GEM!!
"WoW" steak was top notch, The best steak ever had in my life and very affordable too.
I heard this steak house never changed their interior or revamped anything to attract / convince their customer which is a best example of their self confidence.
We took the folks out for some great steaks. I think the last time we were here was back in the late 90s. It was awesome to see Joop Mol manning the grill section.
The peppercorn crusted cheddar cheese stuffed pan fried steak was done perfectly and the nutty butter flavour shone through. The sides of herbed green beans, butter fried button mushrooms and fried onion rings hit the Banting spot perfectly.
Definitely a restaurant we shall return to for the legendary steaks cooked by the former butcher turned Masterchef.
What a lovely restaurant, with excellent service and superb food.
I had the famous pepper fillet in a pan ... man oh man was this good‼️ It is cooked in the sauce in a small copper pan... and then served in the pan. Absolutely the best steak I've had in a very long time.
My wife had the regular fillet, with a cheese sauce and she also complimented the steak, and mentioned that the cheese sauce was very good and creamy.
Pity I don't get to Durban often enough to enjoy this in a more regular basis.
This is the home of quality steaks. Absolutely incredible chow. I honestly cannot fault the place.
Many other dishes besides steak on offer and every person at the table enjoyed their meal.

We arrived at 6pm so it wasn't the "dinner rush" so it wasn't that busy.
It's a little out of the way, but soooo worth going there. It will definately become a must go to place.

Joops place is a cosy restaurant located in the same building at avondale spar , it has some tasty cocktails as well as good meal options. The staff were friendly and made us feel very comfortable. We had the pan fried steak and a rack of lamb with wine reduction, the doneness on the meat was to our order and was overall a very great experience,we will definitely we visiting there soon.
These were the best pork ribs I have ever had!
Their main dishes are inexplicably appetizing. Their food is impeccable and definitely delectable. The succulent meat dishes are paired with flavourful and yummy sides of choice... I personally enjoyed their style of butternut. It was hearty and scrumptious.
This is the type of place you go to EAT! And if you're a meat Lover, you will definitely enjoy the food this place.

The food, like the food is just the star of this place. You feel for a proper steak with the full trimmings and joops will meet your needs.
Staff and team are happy to help you through a lovely dining experience. Scene and setting is chilled and homely with a few big screens around to catch the latest sports score as you and your friends and family share a delicious meal.

Good steaks. Check on their specials. Book for veranda seating if load shedding. If you love steak give them a try. We enjoyed our meals.
This place have been serving great steak since 1993 , it is a time capsule of old fashion quality dining that is seldom found these days - try the peppered steak . The boerie chilli bites are good as well .
We had such an amazing experience at Joop's place and would definitely recommend them to others.
Their food is cooked to perfection, decently portioned and worth every single cent! The atmosphere was lovely and service was great - the waiters were awesome and the manageress constantly checked in to make sure that everything was fine.
We made the mistake of ordering starters, because the main meals were so filling that we had to role out of there!
I had a pepper steak, cooked to perfection, and my partner had the "Shark Tank Legend Burger" - make sure that you are super hungry when planning to order the burger.
If you're looking for a good steak, Joop's is the best and definitely worth the visit.
