The best indian authentic curries.....we loved it. For those who posted negetive comments obviously isnt indian. The mutton bunny was the best of all....this is genuine durban food. Highly recommend this place to everyone who still is sceptical....you wont regret eating here.
Always a great meal rendered by The Burner! Now resorted to buying their curries for the freezer so that I can get a fix whenever needed
The mutton bunny chows are amazing. The staff here is always friendly and they are very efficient. Went there last week and will be going again tonight. Their food is always fresh.
Best Durban curry in Cape Town. We've tried the other 'best' places and they don't match up to the Burner. They have an awesome Saturday special every Saturday, today there was Cornish chicken and gadra beans... Happy eating!
I ordered a takeaway mutton breyani which was very tasty with it's lovely eastern spices. A really good meal which was value for money. However the staff could at least be more friendly and welcoming. It was as if they were doing me a favour. Being a Monday evening they were probably annoyed after a tiring month end!!! I would rate them 5 if they could get rid of that dour look.
We kept it local this evening.
I've had Burner as a takeaway before, but tonight was the first time that I had a sit down meal. the staff were friendly.
I ordered a boneless mutton bunny. it was spicy, the meat was soft and the bread was fresh.
I'll definitely be back
This is a delayed post - we had supper here last Friday. Let's start with the not so good things:
1. The location: it's in a dodgy looking, industrial area. Parking is available with a security guard.
2. The atmosphere: think a late night bar type. Quite dark inside and loud TV screens. Despite this, we decided to sit down (a mistake that won't be repeated). So these two reasons is why it gets a 4/5.
The food itself was definitely a 5 for me. So close to Durban style food. I started with mince samoosas while waiting for the rest of our family. A little pricey (R19 for 3 medium sized ones) but very yummy. Had enough filling and the pastry was flaky. For the mains, we each ordered separately but shared - there was mutton bunny, mutton breyani, mutton curry, mince kebabs and sugar beans bunny. Unfortunately, you cannot choose the spicy level of your curry. My brother (who normally eats really hot food) struggled a bit with the hotness of his bunny but still declared it the best mutton bunny he's had. The breyani and mutton curry were similarly appraised. My mince kebabs were more moderate than hot (how I prefer it) and came with 5 kebabs and one roti. Was very delicious. I finished all 5 kebabs in record time. The sugar beans bunny was also moderately spicy and came with a huge potato and lots of gravy.
We had soji to end with - buttery and soft, reminded me of Indian weddings.
Service was good and attentive.
If you're craving Durban style food, this is the place to go but get a takeaway and enjoy at home 😊
Whilst heading to Food Inn for supper I decided to give The Burner a try instead. I ordered 2 lamb rotis/salomis and I also ordered a lamb breyani.
All 3 dishes tasted really good. It was quite spicy, a bit too spicy for my wife and daughter but just the right amount for me. I expected the breyani portion to be slightly bigger (compares to Food Inn and Eastern Bazaar) but what they lack in portion size they make up in quality.
I really enjoyed the roti... It was delicious and I like that they use deboned lamb. I also really liked the Dahl they gave... Could eat it as a meal on is own. I will definitely return and I want to try the bunny chow.
First time my colleagues and I ordered from The Burner and it was worth every cent. The Bunny Chow was out of this world.Definitely going back and recommending it to all.
This is truly a hidden GEM! The Bunny chows are amazing. Very good consistency - I have never had a bad meal. The portion sizes are VERY generous for a reasonable price! The only downside would be the location.
Was told to go chow the beans bunny there. Ekse, I aksed for extra chillie and that thing was piping hot! Won't vy anywhere else next time I pull into the Mother's City. Thanks owes, the service was marvellous! You're the real OGs. Regards, your customer that flew in from Durban the other week.
The Food is absolutely delicious. If you looking for an authentic Durban Bunny Chow or Curry then The Burner is you stop. I've had the Lamb Curry Bunny Chow there a few times and always a great experience.
Bunny chow best in the country. According to the kids its not a bunny chow, its volcano bread😂
Good people of South Africa and beyond, the Bunny Chow from The Burner in Bellville South is a must try, i cant stress enough how tasty and nice it is. I tried a bunny in Durban, as this is the origin of the Bunny Chow, but at the Burner eish the best. Please if u or any other person this is a must try
Authentic Durban Cuisine. Its based in a pub like bar. Dimly lit with Indian decor. I ordered take out. The curries are usually very nice but always very oily. I highly recommend their soji. Its disappointing they only have their butternut curry during the fast
The best indian food in South Africa and I am from Durban! Nothing is more authentic indian food than this. Proper indian curries and dishes. Affordable and no compromise on quality. Big portions too. Make sure you get a Soji or Vermicilli take away! My advice... Mutton Bunny Chow. Butter chicken not so good. The rest brilliant.
We enjoyed their samosas and lamb bunny chow! Great presentation and taste.
This is the best Indian restaurant that we have eaten at in Cape Town so far.
It was recommended on the popular group Appetite on Facebook and it did not disappoint.
The owner is kind and friendly.
The food is filled with flavour (Durban Style)
The waiters are fairly friendly and the atmosphere is casual.
Its hard to get real Durban Style food in Cape Town but THE BURNER does provide just that.
The Wedding style soji is a must.
My family and I will return without a doubt.
Serve a Bunny Chow!!!
I've never had a bunny chow, and this place definitely set the mood for more. It was tasty, well presented and had the Durban flavour - that's from a friend 😅.
Worth a checkout. Big ups guys 💯
Best Lamb bunny! A really authentic durban curry. And the Soji is the best! My go to order when I miss home as a student in cpt.
Mainly do pick ups but everything is great, my favorites, the lamb curry and the potato paratha
Food was delicious. Service was great. Soji was the best.
