Review La Boheme - Cape Town Central

Megan de Bruyn
We had a wonderful family dinner making our way through the tapas menu! We all loved every bite. Also got beautiful food pics for the gram

Delicious and varied menu, fantastic cocktails (particularly the cherry sour), good wine selection and friendly, attentive staff. The bão buns were amazing!

My husband and I went to try their tapas special (3 for R255) and we were completely blown away. Every single tapa was simply delicious. Our favourites were the pulled lamb wontons, seared tuna and the burrata salad, which was not part of the special but an absolute must-try. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu and we’ve added their sister seafood restaurant ‘Gambas’ to our to-visit list😍

I liked the cozy and intimate setup, with live soft music playing in the background. Our server was attentive, friendly and very professional. The seafood paella was divine, balanced and a great use of saffron. Great wine and cocktail menu and to mention the desserts was delicious. Must visit again

An absolutely delightful restaurant offering wholesome, fresh and well-plated dishes. I’d certainly recommend the 3-course menu which they offer - which caters for various palettes. At the time, the dishes I opted for were seared tuna with fresh ginger for starters. Grilled kingklip with mussels, potato croquettes, broccoli and peas for mains. And to end, a delicious slice of cheesecake topped with berry compote for dessert. The restaurant also offers a mix of indoor and covered outdoor seating, perfect for a warm summers day. Lastly the service is impeccable. Staff are friendly, professional and efficient in all aspects. Will certainly be back again to test out another 3-course offering.

Such a cute ambiance. The smaller plates mean you can share lots of tastes. Service was good as well. Deducted one star because the oysters seemed off. But everything else was fresh and delicious.

The atmosphere and service were very nice, however, the food was average for Cape Town. We took 3 tapas: patatas bravas were good, but mussels with Thai curry sauce had a very weak taste - the color was green, but it tasted like nothing; baked Camembert cheese with bacon and pickles didn’t make the cut either. Our main dish, paella, was pretty fine. Overall, nice place for casual dinner, but the food experience is a bit uneven.

We had a really lovely Friday night dinner. They have a tapas special (3 plates for R240), and a set menu special (both 2 course and 3 course). The food was superb and the portion sizes are good so you can expect to be quite full if you have any of the specials. The wine selection was also amazing. They have a varied menu including beef, chicken, pork, duck, seafood, and vegetarian options so I opted for the tapas special and tried a selection of different dishes. Their desserts are also really yummy (I tried some of the chocolate brownie and the creme brulee). They close at 10pm on a Friday so if you like to sit, chat, and take your time eating then go early. I would also recommend making a booking ahead of time/calling ahead to confirm table availability, especially for larger parties. The restaurant itself is very warm and cosy with low lighting, candles on the tables, incense burning all the time. If you're not a fan of the incense you can request a table "outside"- it's still under cover and they bring down the canvas sides when it's windy/cold/rainy. The staff are really friendly and welcoming as well. The service is excellent. This place is definitely going on my list of favourites.

Lovely place for a date or even a family dinner. You can choose 3 tapas for R240, The food was excellent (portion sizes are perfect) as the wine selection! (Vegetarians you’ll have option). Too bad I was already full to test their desserts! Can’t end without mentioning the lovely staff! We went there on a Thursday evening and a guitarist was playing, good vibes

Brenda our waitress was friendly and funny and lovely! The food was fabulous except the cheesecake (one of my favourite desserts to order in a restaurant) The texture was slightly dry and the caramel drizzle (which was not mentioned on the restaurant or website menu) spoiled the lovely berry flavors - I am sadly not a fan of caramel and it it doesn't go well with fruit :( Otherwise La Boheme rocks and I would definitely go again :)

Saw this cozy restaurant on a review and it is situated on the main road in Sea Point. The restaurant got that oldish vineyard type feel to it (we went at night) we ordered tapas, main dishes and one dessert. That pannacotta was devine. Most memorable I have ever tasted and I'm not a big fan of pannacotta. Their foods are very true to the nature of the taste (meaning it's not heavy in your mouth or stomach) the meats are cooked to perfection and the gnocchi is soft & fluffy. We received good services from the owner and the waiters. The prices are good too. You looking from R200 for a main or you can order a 3-course meal for R250.

The food was picture perfect and really delicious. The staff was attentive and friendly. The set menu for restaurant week is a winner and the same is advertised on the outside of the restaurant as well. Very happy we went.

This bistro-style restaurant has soft lighting (during the evening) and a musician serenading you with music while you enjoy your dinner. As someone who loves to eat, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal (courtesy of Wikideals). The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing, really allowing for you to enjoy the winter menu. Were it not for the vouchers, I would have thought the restaurant a bit pricy - with that being said, the food was value for money. I had a wonderful time with decent drinks, and was served by an enthusiastic waitress who made sure we were looked after. There was some inconsistencies with the food and drinks but I still had a great time. On a negative note: the bathroom is literally next to the kitchen ... The 3-course meal consisted of: (1) Starters - paprika squid and beef koftas. The squid was scrumptious! I wish they had this as an option as a main because that starter really only whets your appetite. As someone who prefers well done meat, I was surprised when my beef koftas was pink in the centre. Didn't enjoy that too much but at least it had a nice sauce to accompany the meatballs. (2) Mains: pepper crusted beef sirloin, pork belly and pulled oxtail. The pepper crusted beef sirloin was soft and moist, and the Syrah jus was just the perfect pairing for the steak. I absolutely love pork and could not stop telling everyone how delicious the twice cooked pork belly was. Not a fan of sweet potato but the mash was surprisingly good, just the chef went a bit overboard with the spring onions (you want some mash with your spring onion - although it masked the sweet potato flavour). Gnocchi was soft and pillowy but I couldn't really taste the parmesan, it might have been too delicate for the robust flavours of the melt-in-your-mouth oxtail braised in red wine. (3) Dessert: Crème brulee. I am obsessed with this dessert and they did not disappoint! The custard was rich and decadent, and the perfect way to close the night off on a sweet note.

Great food and presentation. There are a lot of options. Good service too! They allow for corkage but it is expensive.

A nice meal here, albeit a bit pricey. I decided for the 3 course meal set, starting off with ravioli, then hake, and finally creme brûlée. Everything tasted wonderful and well balanced. I would have forgone my starter cocktail (a gin and tonic) had I known it was going to be as expensive for what it was. Giving 4/5 stars mostly on the account of the atmosphere - it needs serious updating. The place has a very confused identity, is it Bohemian (Czech)? Spanish? Portuguese? A mixture I’m sure, but the Halloween witches hanging in the front window aren’t quite campy enough to fit the vibe, especially juxtaposed against a massive still life mural and some fake Picassos. Felt very conflicted compared to the food, which was served in a fairly contemporary manner. That being said, outside looked lovely but they were only seating reservations there. So I suggest making a reservation for the outdoor area, where there was also live music!

A lovely little restaurant with indoors & outdoors seating in the heart of Seapoint. Even though Load Shedding hit us @20h00, they were prepared and able to continue operating. The service was very good. The young lady serving us was very friendly and knowledgeable, even when peak hour struck and service started slowing down a bit, she was always professional and had a smile on her face. The food was top notch to say the least. The panfried octupus & pulled rabbit croquettes for starters were something unique but tasty nonetheless. My wifes twice cooked pork belly was melt in your mouth good, she even conpared it to that of her favourite restaurant, Die Damhuis in Melkbos. My Gelacian rib eye was cooked pergectly medium rare and excellent quality cut. My hot crispy churros with caramel dip & het baked cheesecake was the perfect way to end off the evening. A definite yes from us to anyone looking for good food.

Went to La Boheme for dinner with a family friend from overseas, the starters were amazing however the service is very slow between the course, hence why I didn't take photos between meals. By the time the mains got the to the table, I was ready to tuck in.

After all the good reviews I have read about this place and reviews via word of mouth, I was deeply disappointed with mains which was the miso hake with cous cous. The hake was burnt and black and there was mountain of cous cous, so much that I would not even classify it as a side to my hake. I even said to my partner when I got home that I probably could have made a better hake from frozen than what I had at La Boheme.

I would return for a glass of wine and a starter, but definitely am not hurrying back here for dinner anytime soon.

I Enjoyed a seafood paella from La Boheme a few months back. Delicious bistro food with a Lovely taste and large portion big enough for 2 to share.

Decided the try this place out on the entertainer! We opted to it go for the set menu and make our own two course meal instead. The pulled lamb croquettes with pea purée and aioli were delicious and pulled lamb spring rolls were yummy - with a salty sauce. We both had ribeye steak mains - one with veg and other with chips. Perfectly cooked to order and sides were all delicious. Service was wonderful with a smile and respected our request to not rush, but we also didn’t wait ages for our food. I’ll definitely go back.

We celebrated our two year wedding anniversary and La Boheme was just the right place. Cosy and warm and delicious food! Had the lamb shank and steak and toffee dessert.
Clive Goodheart
All I can say is WOW WOW WOW!! My wife and I have been wanting to try this place for a while but it is a little expensive so when we saw it on the entertainer we decided we MUST go. We both had the best darn steaks we have had in a while. I had the Fillet with Mushroom risotto and my wife had the ribeye with peppercorn sauce. Both cooked to perfection and a michelin quality meal. Can't reccommend enough and we will definitely be back!

Im done, I would return every time to have the tender fillet steak with mushroom risotto and mushroom sauce. The flavors are out this world... nice romantic ambience with small menu but exceptional food

Really love their tapas menu and the food was amazing.

Went to La Boheme for a friends birthday and was excited to go there as the reviews are good. I had the seared beef and the braised beef (I think, not sure they menu on here is old) both tapas was amazing enjoyed it a lot. For dessert, I had the tiramisu was okay not to bad. I had a taste of the beef steak with mushroom and risotto and I liked it a lot will order that next time when I was there.

Negatives: the reason why they didn't get a 5 was their wine list is too expensive. We also had to place our order early to avoid food running out. 2 of my friends had to choose another meal which was ridiculous and a bit annoying. If your rating is so high you shouldn't run out of ingredients/food. My friends were even making a joke that they have to fight for what they want to order before there is nothing.

Overall my friends and I had a good birthday dinner there 👌🏽

Super friendly staff and excellent food. Very well executed. The interior is a little sparse and may need s little work but the food more than makes up for it.
Nicolene Louw
Amazing food, lovely ambience, friendly service. Cant see the ocean but the vibe is worth not having a view. The pork belly and creme brûlée is a must!!
Chiara Crystal
We came here based on the reviews here. Arrived for a late dinner so we could only get mains - understandable. I ordered the duck, which wasn’t great, lacked total flavor in the meat, wanton and the potatoes, the duck had a lot of fat on it, which I mostly cut off. My boyfriend ordered the beef risotto, again, nothing out of this world but Bette than my duck. I had one glass of wine, and almost fell off my chair when we received the bill - very expensive for what you’re served. Most likely won’t be going back again. But the staff were friendly and polite, nice romantic ambience, food and price, 2 rating at most.

This place was excellent. Food so beautiful and very tasty. Reasonable price and service is great. Please note no cocktails anymore. I would definitely visit again!

We have been to La Boheme several times and were most disappointed in our last visit on Saturday 23 December 2017 particularly since we had brought guests. Choice of two dishes for R 180 is now limited to choices on a piece of paper whereas before one could choose from the whole blackboard menu. They no longer allow BYO wine and we found the wine to be very expensive by Cape Town standards.
My spring roll starter was okay but the caprese salad was pretty ordinary. The pork belly was overcooked..three of us ordered it and left most of it. My husband thought the braised beef was "adequate."
None of the staff appeared particularly enthusiastic or welcoming and service was a bit slow. We considered the final bill to be very high for what we had eaten. Unlikely to return.
Alistair
Absolutely fantastic food with a great atmosphere and friendly staff!! The duo of duck is phenomenal. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

Lovely ambient setting, wide wine list selection and really great food. The butternut and goats cheese canelloni, and beef fillet rissoto are particularly delicious.

Been there a couple of times ,food is great and the service is good.not much to say about this place other than it's nice especially for during the week dinners quite chilled

Booked dinner via Feastfox (fast becoming one of my new favourite apps) with a friend. He opted for the 3 course deal (only R200!), where he had the ostrich tortellini as a starter, the pork belly as a main and the brownie for desserts. I had the signature mushroom risotto with beef fillet dish.

I snuck a bite off all three of his dishes and overall I would score the dishes slightly above average (3.5). The ostrich tortellini was served scorching hot and he had to wait for it to cool down before he could tuck in. The soup was weirdly sweet.. we both agreed that we probably wouldn't order that dish again.

The pork belly main was good.. but definitely not wow. My main had to be sent back because the fillet came out close to well done and I had asked for it to be done medium-rare. They handled the situation very well: gladly replaced my dish and offered me a glass of wine on the house. I declined the wine, as I already had a glass and that was my mental quota for the night. The best part of my beef risotto dish (take 2) was the risotto itself! So yummy! But the beef was definitely done more to my liking this time around.

The dessert was amazing! That brownie though...! It definitely was a very good end to the meal.

Since I had declined the glass of complementary wine, the manager offered us coffee on the house for getting my beef dish wrong, initially. The service here is impeccable. And for this very reason I'm adding a bonus 0.5 to the score.

Quality meal. Good service. The fillet and mushroom risotto is my go to. The paella was great too. Never disappointed. Will see you tonight for my go to meal to celebrate my one year anniversary.

Had a lovely meal here on Friday night.
The service was efficient and friendly. Ambience was nice.
Our food was yummy. I had the fillet with mushroom risotto which was delicious, very generous portions.
Would go back!

Absolutely mouthwatering food! Lovely ambiance, great wine and delicious desert! Good service and all round, fantastic restaurant! I would definitely recommend this place.

One of our favorite restaurants in Cape Town! Came back twice. Must try: Beef Fillet with Mushroom Risotto & Pork Belly! Their salads are pretty good too.

Perfect ambiance for candlelit dinners & long conversations over wine. 🍷 A hit for all their dishes! This is coming from an Asian person who has Asian cuisine almost every week!

A suprise anniversary date night with my husband. Arrived after 9pm. Service was excellent. As for the food...amazing fresh seasonal ingredients. Will def go back. Christofel Hartley

Absolutely amazing food, really good service and a great atmosphere. Food came quickly and was really well presented and tasty. Amazing wine collection.
Manuel Feliciano Gomez-Arrones Egido
It was good although I was expecting more from the reviews I had seen.
The service was good. I liked the short menu. I do not give a 4 or 5 because execution could have been better.
Mark Keith Odayan
Had a really great experience taking some friends to this place. The meals were really of high quality standards and the prices were quite affordable. Definitely a gem in Seapoint

Such a great spot to go and have dinner with friends 🍴 lovely food, atmosphere and service! The steak and mushroom risotto is a must try as well as their sangria

Had dinner at La Boheme upon recommendation. One of Cape Towns staples, I maybe had expectations that were too high? The decor is disappointing and uninviting, doesn't seem there has been any work in that dept in decades. The service was okay though we had a trainee waitress and with her waitress awkwardly hovering over her. I wasn't too hungry so I got two tapas meals, the pork belly and the gnocchi. The pork belly was delicious, the gnocchi too heavy. I found that the menu overall is better suited for winter, there were no options for a light summer meal. Rest of the table had the lamb shank (which fell of the bone), the confit duck and the kingklip (over cooked and unseasoned). I wasn't thrilled but it also wasn't a dreadful experience. Don't think I will be back.

Exceptional 3 course meal and wine menu. The apple tart was the best I've ever had. The music and atmosphere was romantic and homely. Service was good. Loved the unconventional bread basket of bread sticks and olive tapenade. Went with a group of friends for my husband' birthday and we all had to have a taste of each others' meals cos everything looked and smelt delicious. Excellent value for money - not expensive especially for the variety and fresh ingredients used to make the fantastic meals. Vast wine selection so you can pair with your choice of dish. Love Love Loved La Boheme!
Nedine Van Zyl
Great service, as always. It was a shame that they were sold out of their signature beef dish. They don't have a the set menu available on Sundays, which is what we went for, but dinner was still great!

What a great spot we had a good time! The staff are trained know their food & their customers LSM range. The food was yum and really flexible management! Thanks for a great time. Things that would have caused me to give them 5/5: tables just too small & make sure the staff are not to pushy for sales! I'll be back. #welldone

This is one of the neighborhood standards.

What started off as a neighborhood bistro has now expanded into a large restaurant (can one blame the owners) with a concomitant reduction in quality. However it remains excellent value for money with the 2 or 3 course fixed price menu. Liver parfait with caramelised onions is excellent as is their gnocchi.

Review written for the current summer menu in Jan 2017 - pricing is a little off on the uploaded menus on Zomato. Expect a current price per head of around R180 for a two course meal and R210 for a three course meal.
Firstly - I frequent La Boheme quite often and it's a staple when I visit Seapoint with out of town friends so this review does take into account consistency.

Breaking down the negatives first:

1) Only one bathroom makes for a little bit of a dicey situation where one hopes that it's available when needed. I'd say the bathroom really doesn't reflect the class of the restaurant and is a disconnect.

2) The waiters need some time to warm up so expect worse service during early evening hours (5pm) followed by pretty on the ball service from about 7pm onward.

3) The desserts are not on the same level of quality as the starters and mains. The Crème brûlée is undersized and generally contains unmelted granulated sugar in the custard which should have formed a part of the hard caramalised topping layer. The chocolate brownie is also not something one would usually find at a restaurant but rather of a general coffee shop standard without any frills.

Aaand onto the positives:

1) The setting and ambiance is great. The restaurant is classically decorated with a few quirks which creates an inviting and intimate setting conducive to dates or tables of four or less with a group of friends.

2) Main point - the food is actually sublime. I've never been dissatisfied with a dish I've ordered for mains. In fact this is the main reason for a rating of 4 despite the negatives. I'd only caution La Boheme to approach their pricing carefully as they're on the borderline of fine dining pricing while still falling within the casual dining category.

My favorite restaurant in Cape Town! Their service is outstanding and the food is always so so good. I always have a very special experience there and will continue visiting.

Great food and ambience and even better the service. Very good wine selection. Paella and pork fillet were what we tried and it was great. Recommended
Aden Ritz
Absolutely love the food and the service is great. They have an outstanding manager named Jason, whose sole purpose is to ensure you have the best experience. Thank you La Boheme.

Until next time !!!!
Lucy Valerie Graham
Favourite local in Sea Point. Friendly, accommodating staff, good food, nice cosy ambience, a great wine list. I have tricky dietary requirements - vegetarian and gluten free - but La Boheme always try their best to accommodate that. Their risotto is always great.
Steven Andrews
Really nice atmosphere, great manager and staff. Their set menu is very good value for money and the pork belly is to die for. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice meal and a good bottle of wine.
Gabriel Stein
Probably the toughest rating decision I've had to make.

I'm going to start with the negatives. The toilet is in the restaurant, and what I mean by that is, there are two tables that are 1m away from the toilet stall. It's honestly not a big deal for me personally, I just feel that a restaurant, especially of La boheme's standard, should be a little less tacky.

2nd negative came about when the desserts were brought. The creme Brule was tiny! Yes usually they're small (if a restaurant made a big creme Brule, id be there everyday) but this was pathetic. Also, we had asked the waiter previously what the chocolate sauce was (homemade or synthetic ) and he proudly said homemade with Belgian chocolate and cream... HUGE THUMBS UP from me... But they drizzled it on the ice cream and didn't even give him a little jug of sauce to spread the chocolate himself.

The beef carpaccio was nice, not amazing but I would certainly say above average. My beef fillet with risotto would also have to go under the same definition. And the creme Brule was alright and tiny.

Honestly....i wouldn't recommend coming here. It does have a diverse menu which is great... But for the prices I'm sure you could venture a little further to the waterfront and find better. But if you don't feel like going far from home (and you stay in sea point) and you like a range of options... Come here.
Mfundo Verby
Food was Okay. Enjoyed the two course meal. They burnt my fishcakes, had to send them back. Environment was quite romantic and classy. Portions were small. Services was nice, waiter was good.
Jill Nudelman
Oy no. This so isn't my type of place. There were no tables on the patio facing the street so we were placed inside where the ambience was less than perfect. It was almost empty (for a Saturday night!) and the dim lighting gives the place a grubby feel. The postage stamp sized table, also, was unpleasant - it was really cramped and awkward trying to fit everything onto it. The tapas was nicely presented but it all tasted like it had been made without much love and care: bland, tasteless and cold. The wine, Raats Dolomite 2014 sadly matched the food - insipid and one-dimensional. The service also was somehow inattentive and uncaring. One good thing: the place does offer good value for money. The wine, too, was well priced.

Went for dinner at La Boheme last night and was not terribly impressed on a couple of fronts. Also be aware that the prices listed on the menu on zomato are currently incorrect , so you will be paying R180 for a 2 course meal and R210 for a 3 course meal.

We arrived and all the waiters seemed to be more engrossed in their own private conversations , not taking notice of us hovering. The manager then saw us and took us to our table. Interesting twist on a traditional bread basket with hummus and olive tapenade instead of butter. Sadly , the bread sticks were quite charred which was not so appetising.

I ordered the pulled lamb ravioli for starters , great original concept for pulled lamb in a filled pasta -never seen that before. While the flavours and sauce were good the pasta itself was not sufficiently thin enough , making it a little bit heavy and chewy. My friend ordered the beef takkati, and said it was good but quite overpowered by the pickled ginger.

My boyfriend was not enamoured by any of the starters so he just ordered a main - the kudu with lentils and croquettes. Kudu was cooked to temperature but the meat itself was a little tough and chewy. Nicely spiced lentils but the croquettes were bland and lacking in seasoning.

I ordered the beef Picatta. It was OK. Once again same situation as the kudu - cooked well but cut of the meat wad quite tough and not so enjoyable. My stuffed potato was also underseasoned, but the vegetables and jus were pretty good. My friend ordered the stuffed chicken breast for mains, I had a taste and it was mediocre and a little dry.

Between courses we were given a lovely melon granitta as a palate cleaner which was a nice touch -and very yummy too!

However, the service throughout the evening was not great. Our initial waiter who took drinks orders disappeared after that and we were tended to by other waitrons. This combined with the average food for a greater price than we had anticipated made the evening not such a great one. Great ambiance inside but cannot say I will be back in a hurry.
Andrea Jonkers
Amazing place! Loved the food and the atmosphere. The staff is really friendly and welcoming Great prices too. I would definitely recommend it.

I've had great experiences eating here, very reasonably priced food and it's always of a good standard. It's a good idea to book in advance to ensure you get a good table

Had a really enjoyable late dinner at La Boheme. We arrived without a booking and were very sweetly attended to. Took a really long time to get served though but our waiter was really attentive when he eventually did get to our table.

We did the 3 and 2 course set menu special. It was really delicious. Beef carpaccio starter and the tortellini with Italian sausage. The tortellini were truly delicious! For mains we both had the gnocchi with braised springbok and artichokes. Oh my word. Yum!
Dessert was a good but not out of this world apple tart. Overall food was good for a casual date night out!
Sereshan Pillay
This restaurant came highly recommended from a friend and naturally when the Zomato rating was 4.2, I had to check it out! I opted for the three course meal for which I started with a salmon, tuna and feta tart which had great flavours, however the crust was too sweet for my palate. The main dish was chimichurri sirloin steak which was delicious! Had the creme brûlée to complete what was a great meal. Excellent value for money especially when coupled with a generous glass of sangria for only R22!

I have been here before and decided to return spur of the moment.

My 1st experience was on point and tonight it was just as amazing.

Staff are welcoming and friendly.

The food is great value for money with food portions large and extremely tasty!

They also offer a wide range and variety of wine by the glass which was really great.

All in all worthy of a great night out!
Omar Youssef
The place is so romantic and quite in general it's a perfect place to recall some good moments from your memory, the service is awesome and cheerful, the food is really perfect and plating is what this restaurant can be remarkable in. separating starters and main dish with lemon smoothie is brilliant and professional way the place offer to make you feel special.
Fernando
An awesome meal. A good restaurant can always be rated against how well they do their risotto. Not over cooked and never crunchy. We had the pulled lamb risotto which was superb. The pork belly was also great, perfectly crunchy crackling; wow.
Pen Trevena
Wow! This restaurant totally exceeded any expectations. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. To start I had potato bravas (amazing), for mains, I had the most delicious balsamic fillet with mushroom risotto which was mind-blowing and shared the Creme brûlée for dessert. I literally cannot fault this meal at all. Great experience with delicious food.
Lukeconorbolton
Not a great experience. Very poor service. I had the steak with mushroom ravioli which was delicious. My girlfriend had the chicken casserole and this was disappointing. Cold and she didn't really eat it. Would expect a lot more.
Nikita Cloete
The manager is excellent and always friendly. The food is really great, especially the Pork Belly! Service can sometimes be a tad bit slow, but always worth the experience! 😊

A cold and rainy evening turned out to be the perfect time to try this restaurant. The atmosphere, like the service was warm and friendly. Everything seemed to run smoothly without fuss.

The winter menu offers great value allowing you to choose either 2 courses or 3 for an extremely reasonable rate. House speciality dishes are also available. The selection is enormous and everything is described beautifully.

We started with carpaccio and caprese salad. For main we had a paella for two. Everything was delicious and very well prepared.
Marcelo Dauane
My favourite restaurant. The food is amazing, from the starters to the deserts. I can never get tired of their menu. The service is also very good. This place is a MUST go.

A few weeks ago I went to this restaurant for the first time and it was just lovely! The service, the speed and the FOOD 😍 We all cleaned our plates and for once no one in my family was even mildly let down because all of our dishes were perfect! We can be fussy at times so that means a lot. I had the Bouillabaisse and it was too delicious for words. Thanks for the great dining experience!

The menu changes frequently enough to keep the favorites but discover gems! The atmosphere is great, good wine list and very reasonably priced. A solid dinner option in Sea Point.
Margot Johnson
La Boheme (traditionally an Italian opera based in Paris) holds true with this restaurants European snowed in decor, fairy light romance, French music, hold-me-closer booths and ever changing on the board menu. I experienced an absolutely magical (pure perfection) evening 2 years ago at this gorgeous theatre of food... Unfortunately their standards have dropped since my last encounter. The wine list is good (classic), the service and manager could improve, the mains were spectacular however choose to end at the main as their last act will leave you disappointed. I can thoroughly recommend the flavorsome beef risotto or melt in your mouth vegetarian gnocchi... I will also thoroughly advise against the dry sponge (similar to bath) tiramisu and bland to boring brownie. Perhaps the French and Italians realize that the sweetest delights in life are not found on plates.

Popped into Cape Town for a conference and was in need of sustenance. Took a walk not far from Beach Road and came across this unassuming and not pretentious! Good service with tasty food! Had the bacon wrapped pork fillet with a bottle of Pinot Noir...delicious !

I always find the restaurants on Sea Point Main Road a little stark, concrete and uninviting, but was pleasantly surprised by this gem when I had lunch there yesterday.
I was served by the friendly Alec who suggested the fish and chips for me. He was not wrong. The Jack Black beer batter was delicious as was the fish. The chips - as always in SA - were a little underdone, but the tartar sauce was fresh and chunky. Lovely.
The venue is a little tired as is much of the furniture and rather basic restroom - but that should not detract from a mouth watering menu, a great wine list and really good value.
After all its the food that is most important and they got it spot on.

We didn't have a reservation yet they accommodated us. At first though the welcome was not impressive but the food sure made up for it. No long wait for excellent food and so reasonably priced.
Would go back again anytime. Lovely cost set up too.

Wonderful little tapas restaurant on main road Sea Point opposite Marais Road. Cozy little interior and enclosed outside area.
Have eaten here a few times but always go for the sumptuously moist pork belly with crispy crackling! An absolute winner!
Flawless food! Wonderful vibe in Sea Point and got really good service from Prince. It was a great treat! We had the roasted pork belly... Yum!!!!

I thought that the food was very average and a little over priced for what you got.. Had draft beer which tasted a little weak and pork belly which was bland and over R100.. Service was good.. Atmosphere good.. But not sure I will rush back..

The service was very bad: The food arrived before the wine, we had to get up to pour our own wine bc the waiter didn't put in on the table but didn't pay attention to pour and the waitress had no clue how to clear a table - as a result a knife fell on my foot. Manager nowhere in sight - fish rot from the head. Food no more than average; had a rather tasteless caprese as starters, ravioli overcooked & too much cream. Paid 1250 for 4 starters & mains and 3 bottles of white wine.
JR
Would have given a 5 star review but the Creme Brûlée was well underdone and runny. Otherwise the service was top tops, my fillet was perfect and my wife's ostrich was brilliant, they have almost 60 different wines by the glass! Starter menu is brilliant as well. No cocktails though. Booking is essential!

Amazing Mediterranean styled food and great service. This unassuming Restuarant blew me away with their cozy yet vibrant atmosphere the wonderful starters and really great service. A must try is the mushroom beef risotto- perfect risotto and rich yet clean flavours. It was a pity that they ran out of prawns as we were very excited to try the Paella. I guess it's just another excuse to go there again. Alex Schmid

What a surprisingly wonderful restaurant. The service was amazing and the food was outstanding. I would recommend getting some of the tapas dishes to start and then move on to the fillet and mushroom risotto. Fantastic flavours and should be done medium rare. Finally finish up with the creme brulle which came highly recommended and meet expectations and then some. Great food, great service and great atmosphere.

The only negative was they were out of stock of prawn and calamari which limited the tapas and didn't allow us to try the paella. But within five minutes of hearing the bad news we were rewarded with two shots Compliments of the house. La Boheme will be one house I'll be returning to soon.

The Foodie Corner
The supposed "cozy" and "romantic" atmosphere that La Boheme has become so famous for is what drew us to this unassuming little restaurant on a rainy Friday night. Although tables are small, the candlelit dinner accompanied by soft background music, friendly service, an extensive, affordable wine list, delicious food and great company were the perfect ingredients for a lovely date night out in Seapoint!

I opted for 3 courses - go big or go home. Starters arrived promptly and consisted of beef carpaccio and a sort of duck wonton (I can't remember the exact name). The duck had a deliciously crispy pastry, meat that was cooked perfectly and came with a sweet chili dipping sauce that worked well with the rest of the dish, although I must say that it wasn't anything special. I felt the salad on the side was a bit unnecessary as well. The beef carpaccio got a thumbs up - the thin tender beef pieces went surprisingly well with the caper berries.

After being given a palate cleanser of watermelon "sorbet" (since it was more of a frozen shot than a sorbet), our mains arrived in record time. I indulged in La Boheme's famous pork belly whereas my partner had he ribeye. Both dishes were... WOW! There are no words to describe! Eating on such spectacular food literally gave me goosebumps! Thee best pork belly I've ever tasted by far (highly recommended!!!). As for the ribeye, it came with a delicious marinade and got a 5/5 from the meat expert himself.

I could not resist ordering the Kaluha tiramisu for dessert - it'll like one of my favorite shots combined with my all time favorite Italian dessert. And I was not disappointed! If I didn't have to behave myself in public, I would've licked the plate clean!

As for service - super friendly and very quick. Actually, it's the fastest my food has ever arrived, and they definitely did not compromise on the quality! We waited a while to be assisted upon arrival, but understandably so as they were very busy. They were very accommodating and seated us in a relatively quiet corner were we could enjoy the evening. Our waiter was a bit absent throughout the night and we had to call him if we wanted service, but he was very friendly and brought our food out quickly.

The wine list of course also needs a special mention - no need to go home thirsty here! And if you don't have a designated driver (poor soul) you should definitely arrange an Uber, because you can't miss out on the variety of by the glass wines that this restaurant offers. And at reasonable prices too!

Overall, a lovely experience where the food was of exceptional quality. My only criticisms are that the restaurant itself is quite small and a bit overcrowded - tables are compact and you're pretty much having dinner with your next door neighbors. The chalkboards are also a bit unpractical in such a small space, especially on a busy night. And I would've liked the menu to be explained to me by my waiter, as if I hadn't done my research on Zomato beforehand, I would've been quite confused as to how food orders worked. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return! A highly recommended restaurant that doesn't break the bank - yum!

The menu offers a enticing variety of options. I told it changes weekly so there is always an opportunity to try new options. Our steaks were ordered medium rare but arrived well done. We sent them back and had new steaks made which were then rare. The food was full of flavour and the staff were attentive.

Such a special spot in Sea Point. For a great deal opt for the 3-course or 2-course menu with a selection of starts, mains and desserts. Their wine menu is beyond amazing so make sure you ask your waiter what wine would go well with your meal. LA Boheme is a great first date spot for those looking for a laid back vibe but an impressive location.

I had possibly the best pork neck I've ever had at La Boheme. Tender, tasty and perfectly accompanied by creamy mash and veg. We went on a busy Friday and the service was speedy and friendly, a great place for a romantic dinner for two or a few couples looking for a top notch meal. Best of all, it didn't cost us an arm and a leg. The only reason they don't get 5/5 is because my Creme Brulee was good, but not as amazing as that pork neck. We'll be back!

We went to La Boheme for a dinner last night. They had a nice wine menu on offer, and we enjoyed a great red with our dinner. We decided to share 3 starters. First we had the Calamari and Chourico - delicious! Then the carpaccio, equally delicious. A little while later, we decided to try the duck spring rolls which were also very nice, three spring rolls in a serving. We ended off the night by sharing a main course, being the beef fillet and mushroom risotto. The chef split the meal into two plates, one fillet medallion per plate. This however is wear things weren't as great. One plate had a piece of meat which looked just like fillet (cut, taste, texture etc), whilst the other was as close to a piece of rump/sirloin I've ever seen. We queried it with the manager and the response from the chef is that the meat arrives pre-cut, with the "top" side and "bottom" side of the fillet per meal. We accepted the explanation and shared the "fillet", which was delicious together with the risotto. The other cut not so. If you order this next time, insist on two "good" cuts. Other than that, service, ambience and starters were great, and definitely recommended.

Definitely a new favourite! With a new menu every few days, it really makes going back more exciting! They offer both set menus and a la carte options and both are reasonably priced.. Especially if you get the 3 courses for R170! This specific night I chose the carpaccio and the pork belly? And both were cooked to perfection! They also have a great wine selection and service to boast about! I'll definitely be back soon!

We were at La Boheme in the first week of Jan and had the set menu - really fantastic. Been a fan of the place for years now and it's never disappointed.
Sarita Kerber
Dinner here was mixed feelings for me. I had the salmon, cream cheese and cranberry starter. I found it too sweet with the cranberries, did not really enjoy it. The caprese salad was alright. A few people on the dinner said that there main meals were too oily and found it difficult to finish. I don't think that I will be back here any time soon.

Firstly I was really excited to try this restaurant based on what some friends and Capetonians had told me about the place. I went with the three course set menu which is very well priced at R170 (won't find that price in Joburg at a bistro.)

I had the mixed plate as a starter and the eisbein risotto ball was fantastic. For mains I tried their gnocchi which was cooked perfectly and they were not stingy on the artichokes on the plate.

I must be honest I was highly disappointed with the dessert though. I ordered the creme brûlée which was half curdled and the other half completely watery and unset, and tasted like scrambled eggs :( Their rating score would've been higher but the dessert really didn't end the meal on a good note for me.

This is the place to be for high quality but affordable awesome food. They have a set menu with great choices on it which is such good value, something like R140 for a 3 course meal! Lovely restaurant as well, good feel inside, one of the few places that still gives you a bread basket! Also it's a wine bar so has a great wine list. Be sure to book in advance if you can!

Eclectic style meets 5-star service and cuisine . I have had the privilege of watching this restaurant grow from humble beginnings into one of Cape Town's finest. Try the Kingklip (duck springrolls too!), which is worldclass. Highly highly recommended but call in advance

Holy moly my food was delicious. It had a fancy name, but was a pasta with lamb meatballs - amazing (and I dislike lamb)!!! For my first time here, I didn't know what to expect. The setting was really classy but yet casual. It's a nice place for a romantic dinner I thought. David our waiter kept on recommending all these yummy things. Dessert was another winner - creme brûlée. If you're in the area, definitely pop by, would recommend it.

Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. We had such a fantastic waitress who was very attentive and personable. The bread basket with it's hummus and olive pate made me ask for a second basket. We got the R170 for a three course meal. What a good deal! Started off with duck spring rolls and also tried the carpaccio. Very delicious. They also gave us a peppermint palette cleanser between the starter amd main - nice touch. We all ordered the pork belly through recommendation from a friend. Served with mash, I must say my friend was very correct in saying the best pork belly ever. Creme brule was stunning as well. Definitely going back and taking others with me so that I look like a genius for picking such a top place. Keen to try other meals as well. Everything looks appetising there.

This restaurant is amazing!! Definitely a favourite for me and my husband. The food is really good and the waiters are always friendly. Even on a busy night the service is quick and efficient.

You really need to go there and experience excellent food and friendly service!!

Thank you La Boheme staff!!! You will see us soon for another visit!

PS: the best cheesecake ever!
Alma Pretorius
It's a really busy restaurant, quite stuffy inside and I do think their prices are a bit steep.

The pita bread with tapenade and hummus was okay ... The snoek pate with tomato chutney was REALLY good, although they only gave you 2 tiny flatbread triangles ... really? There's a ton of good snoek pate and it needs a bread to load it on.

The duck springrolls were good. The berry palate cleanser in-between was refreshing.

The veg soup looked okay. The ostrich meatballs on fettucini was good as well as the sweet potato and corn fritter stack.

Its a lovely place ... not quite my style.
Claire
Unreal! The food is absolutely delicious - I highly recommend doing the 3 course meal. Every course was something special - a real treat. I will definitely be back again and again.

A night out with friends. What a lovely experience...friendly eager staff, and an inviting vibe. I had the beef cappuccio as a starter and the shitake mushroom risotto balls followed by the best creme brulee ive tasted in ages! Possibly ever! What a lovely food experience! Slightly pricey but i guess you pay for what you get. Lovely ambience too.

Really enjoyed the experience, the service was good, our waiter was very friendly. The staff paid close attention to detail, supplying us with new glass when we changed wines, new cutlery before our mains. I had the chorizo, onion, feta and spinach spanakopita with tsatsiki. It was ok. I really enjoyed my main, which was the pork belly with mash.

The restaurant was a very enjoyable experience - lovely, romantic ambience with candlelight and intimate, small tables, very good quality Italian food, and overall very good service. Was very impressed with every aspect thereof.

Last nights tasty ostrich meatballs. Enjoyed this but think it was a once off for me. Nice restaurant, good family atmosphere and really enjoy the mixed European menu

One of my all time favorites in Cape Town. Truly amazing food and one of the most affordable. I'm all for a good vibe in a restaurant and La Boheme certainly delivers time and time again. Very friendly staff as well.

Excellent tapas, fusion foods with wine bottle pairings for under $20 USD. You can not find a better combination set menu in Cape Town on a daily basis. Three or four friends can split up two entrees, a bottle of wine and a dessert for under $20!

Price: $$ (Inexpensive to Moderate)
Food Quality: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Ambiance: 4/5 (I highly recommend sitting in the outdoor patio, indoor seating is a little tight)

The food is always amazing (especially the pork belly) and the staff are always very polite. The prices are great for the quality of food you receive! We come here for every birthday and other big events. One of my all time favourite places!

Absolutely amazing food. It is situated in a very vibrant area of cape town surrounded by many different restaurants. I would defiantly be going back to this resturant in the future.
3 months later: I just revisted la boheme. I had an amazing kingklip. I would Defently recommend it!!

Had a wonderful experience with excellent food and an amazing wine collection. Was so great to try great new wines per glass, instead of having to buy a bottle. Would definitely be back!

Always delivers, great weekly specials well prepared, well portioned and priced, definitely worth a visit if you can get in, always busy and bookings are essential especially if in larger groups. Will visit time and time again, service staff are excellent and contribute towards a pleasant vibe.

After searching for a romantic venue to celebrate our wedding anniversary we decided on this bistro. What a great choice, nice relaxing atmosphere, the food arrived quickly and was a very filling helping and tasted delicious. And not expensive at all. What i loved was the menu written on the chalkboards... cool idea. Thanks to for the extra touch with the chocolate writing on the plate. We will defiantely be back.

Main dishes and dessert are wonderful. With the one word, that's amazing. Ambience and the wines are elegance. Restaurant is best one of the Sea Point.

I'm always slighly underwhelmed when I come here. It's a cosy spot, and quite a romantic setting. The service here is touch and go, as well as their food.
Melanie Du Toit
La Boheme's two-course menu is excellent value and delicious to boot! I've been back twice and I'm sure they haven't seen the last of me. My friend ordered the chicken liver parfait and Ostrich Meatballs with tagliatelle both times we went - it was that good. Their carpaccio and duck spring rolls are a winner while their chicken and mushroom ravioli pockets with a chive sauce are to die for. Service has been consistently good every time.
JM
Great new touch of detail: they serve a watermelon & basil pallet cleanser between courses
Fabulous touch
Excellent pork belly, always a winner
Beef shin a must have
