Review Angelo's Ristorante - Umhlanga Rocks

Had a fantastic late lunch here today. The service was great and the food was great. The Sorrento platter as a starter for a few people is a must. The pastas and line fish for mains were also very good. Nice decor and nice ambiance. The prosecco on tap is also a nice touch and the prosecco cocktail was nice and different.

Totally loved this little place unpretentious great service great food lotsa laughter. Not the biggest pasta fan but what we had last night was remarkable super relaxed atmosphere as if it was one big family gathering and reunion What a jol!!

Food was so delicious. Fresh and made to your preference. What a vibe with the music and good wine selection. Staff very friendly and accommodating, with a good knowledge of the dishes helping you make an informed decision on what to eat.

Both my co worker and I really enjoyed the food! He had the lamb chops and they were fantastic, and the half chicken and pasta I had were way past my expectations! Our server was very polite, kind and attentive! Excellent restaurant!!

The Restaurant complies with the Covid protocols, which makes one feel safe. Food is excellent, and staff friendly. Easy access from parking and it's possible to have a quieter atmosphere for diners, unlike some noisy restaurants where you cant hear each other speak.

My favorite Italian restaurant. The staff are first class, and is it possible to rate the food 6 out of 5? Superb flavours. And it's possible to talk, without competing with noise! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Wonderful environment with welcoming staff. We were seated even though we didn't make a reservation, and it was New Year's night. The professional demeanour with which we were treated was refreshing. Will definitely be going back soon.

It is the most special restaurant in our lives! It was my husband’s and my special place, felt like our own private dining room. Awesome food for years on end, never failed. At least 4 times a week says it all. Fabulous staff and Pierre and Adrian always made us feel part of the family. Consistent is the key word. Now my husband has sadly passed, my family and I still go there for all his special occasions and have his favorite meal. So many new places have opened in the village and everyone is keen to try them all, but truly don’t ever lose out on a great, trusted and absolutely fabulous restaurant!

Angelos u guys are really amazing ... dinner was really awesome .. U guys really know how to treat people Unique architecture, homey ... luxurious enough, amazing hospitality, good location -- spectacular food who could ask for more? Angelos is like NO OTHER! This is the best restaurant ever. My sister travels from Australia to umhlanga just to come to Angelos. It’s always the first restaurant we go to when we arrive for our annual holiday.

We eat here at least 3 to 4 times a month and we absolutely love it. The service is excellent the food is authentic Italian and comes with a good wine list. Never disappoints.

My friends and I met for our year ending function and also celebrated a few birthdays. The starters was good and the main meal the barbeque chicken was divine.

We have been customers for 30+years and for the most part the food has been good. We have been very close to the owner but for the past few years the service has gone down hill. It hit its all time low when we booked for a dinner and when we arrived they said we were booked for another night. This is OK however the staff did not care to try and help us in any way and rather ignored us. The manager did not even have the audacity to help us nor even greet us. We will not be returning to a once beloved and cozy restaurant we once loved.

If you're craving a good pizza with generous toppings and a crispy base, look no further than Angelos. The vibe is cosy and intimate and is the perfect spot for a date night.

Really disappointed. I have been here numerous times whilst on holiday in Durban from Johannesburg and this is a must go to, on my last visit the service was terrible , pizza base was burnt and melanzane lacking flavor.

Had a really nice supper here. Wasn’t too loud on a Saturday night and close enough to the square to get the feeling of the vibe, but not too noisy. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was tasty. Not super cheap, but I enjoyed the evening.

We ordered some salads & focaccia for starters which were pleasant, and bolognese and lasagne pastas - both were a bit too rich. Our friend enjoyed her seafood pasta. Service was good.<br/>

Food and ambiance is great. When I brought my team here we were treated like royalty and was very impressed. I came two weeks later all on my own.. was set aside and ignored for the bigger tables. Totally different experience. Had to change my 4 star to a 1 star

The reason I give Angelos a 5 is that I am always impressed by how everything on the plate tastes good. I've been going to Angelos for 20 odd years and I've always enjoyed my meals. Only very rarely was I slightly disappointed but for 20 years that pretty good going. I love that not only is the main, be it fish, chicken or meat, delicious, but so are the chips, so are the veg. I had Dorado a while back and chose veg and the veg was so good, I almost didn't want to eat the Dorado.

Angelos always never fails to amaze me with awesome food and. A great ambience. Had a wonderful seafood platter with my wife we thoroughly enjoyed it. Paired with a nice bottle of big easy wine was a lovely dinner. Highly recommended

Ordered a Pizza which although tasty and ingredients fresh, lacked that wood fired taste, the base not crispy and pretty oven baked. The melanzane was however excellent, freshly made and bits of crispy edges as it should be, the chicken was well cooked and tender, a slight tang but very flavoursome as were the thick cut chips, service although very friendly was average

I walked into Angelo's Ristorante, unaware that this has no affiliation to the Johannesburg Angelo's and sat down to enjoy lunch yesterday. Angelo’s Umhlanga is a family restaurant which is still run and owned by the same family for more than twenty years which I like. <br/><br/>Service: 4/5 Brandon was both helpful, friendly and went over and above to assist our table. <br/>Ambiance: 3/5 Quirky. Angelo's pride themselves on a combination of pictures which adorn their walls (of family going back at least four generations I am told) and of course their signature autographed plates lining the walls showing previous 'famous' visitors to the spot. <br/>Food: 3/5 I selected a homemade minestrone soup for a starter with a big glass of wine and then the Pasta Firenze (a combination of peppers, onion, spinach, and mushroom in a Napoli sauce). It was okay. How is it possible to mess up a margherita pizza!!!🤷🏻‍♀️ The flavors of barbecue and burnt cheese linger on my palette two days after what would be called my worst dining experience.

Tucked away in a corner at Granada Square , Angelo's Ristorante is lovely cosy Italian restaurant that can be easily overlooked. We order led a lovely refreshing Greek salad for our starters which had lovely sweet ripe tomatoes , crisp lettuce , calamata olives and feta. Considering we weren't very hungry we opted for a vegetarian pizza as our main whilst the kids ordered the Pasta Arora(cannelloni dish). I absolutely love my wood fire pizzas ,but unfortunately Angelo's use a traditional oven for their pizzas. I was however pleasantly surprised , the pizza was light & crispy enough to enjoy with decent amount of vegetables such as mushrooms, olives and onions . It was quite enjoyable. The kids devoured their cannelloni dish which looked quite appetizing. Service was good, and our waiter was very courteous. If you looking a nice classy cost place to enjoy some good Italian food, then give Angelo's a shot! Pretty good Italian food from your regular pizzerias.

Authentic Italian restaurant.. Warm lighting, cozy dinning and Italian music playing in the back ground. This is definitely a tucked away treasure. Focaccia placed on the table when seated. Spaghetti, Ravioli and Blue cheese & Pear salad were tasty, uniquely flavored and very satisfying. Service was wonderful but not overly smothering. The price list on Zamoto is a bit out of date.. But this place is worth every penny!! Go try it, but call to book first. It's very popular

Love their food! Small restaurant tucked away in Chartwell drive with a proven track record in Durban. Good service and a good range of dishes. Love their peri peri chicken - ask for it spicy. Tender, juicy and spicy! The seafood is also prepared really well and their Prawns are great!

Chicken legendary. Good atmosphere. Pasta also very tasty. Ate twice over the last 2 weeks and food was consistent. Service attentive and efficient.

Service is sloppy unless you are a local. Ordered tomato cocktail and they do not have ANY of the accompanying condiments. The Bruschetta was drowning in oil, as was the fillet. Also not feeling so well after... definitely will not visit again

The Angelos now is so much better than it was before it was redone. Very cosy, the service was very fast with friendly waiters. The food was really good as well.

Stunning meal. I ordered the ravioli di mare and it was splendid. Such big portion sizes too - letting me enjoy it for lunch tomorrow. Service was fast, friendly and efficient. The vongole and Ferrari pizza is also to die for. Beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend for your next Italian night out!

Was looking so forward to our return to Angelo's in their new location - not disappointed in the least & most impressed with the freshness & flavours of our meals. Restaurant was packed for dinner yet service was slick & meal was very tasty. Kids shared pasta nepolitana, missus had pesto pasta & I had half rosemary chicken with a portion of pasta diavola. Finished off with Italian kisses & Dom Pedro's. Good to see the standard hasn't dropped & that the quality of the food is still top class!

For a little corner restaurant, you don't have to be fancy to attract alot of people. This place is one on my favourite joints for authentic Italian pizza any pasta of their menu. Dim lighting sets the scene for a relaxed atmosphere, but a bit to crowded when they try to over accommodate.

Revamped Angelos is a winner.Well priced and prepared food.Good wine list and upmarket cosy ambiance. Best are the garlic snails and fish of the day. Recommended.

A firm favorite when we come to umhlanga on holiday. The lunch time specials are great value and superb quality. Especially the bruschetta and caprese salad as a starter. We always default to lamb chops or pasta for a main course and are never disappointed. A nice improvement since the move is their own restroom facility.

We are frim Johannesburg, and been wanting to go to Angelos for years. I am afraid it was such a dissapointment. Completely under staffed for lunch and the pizzas were so small and frankly boring. We never once saw an owner or manager.

We decided to try this restaurant last night. My husband was really looking forward to the pear and blue cheese salad (R75), which he ordered. I had a chicken meal and my guest had baby chicken. The food was very expensive for what you get, we also had focaccia bread - oily and too much garlic for my taste buds. My husbands salad looked dismal to say the least, and to top it all the ingredients were not fresh! The salad arrived on a slapped on a plate, looked like it had been thrown together, no finesse in presentation what's so ever. The actual restaurant has a wonderful ambience, however sadly we won't be back. The food was just ... Ok. There are too many other places in the vicinity that have way better quality food and prices.

This was always a favourite spot for my family on holidays - a small, cost, & intimate little trattoria with predictably good pizza & pasta. It's been a few years since I was here. <br/><br/>Sadly the restaurant has morphed into double the size and the result is a deterioration of service and quality of food (in my view). It took an inordinately long time to place an order and equally long time to prepare the food. I guess they might have been short staffed OR the waiters were inexperienced.

This used to be our favorite restaurant in Umhlanga- great Italian food, family styled restaurant with red and white checked tablecloths and an open space environment. The restaurant has relocated a few meters away and been decorated in a much more formal, dark and austere manner. Very noisy and average food. Disappointing. Same plates on the wall.

The food was flavourful, I had the Bistecca di Angelo, consists of a 300gr portion of Ribeye and chips. At R 145 this is really not value for money when the ribeye does not look at all like a 300gr portion. My expectation was more, it looked like a steak from your local Spur.

Food was really great, wish roast potatoes was an option instead of chips. Waiter was rushed and a bit brash. But overall a very nice experience.

Angelos is a small restaurant located at the Granada Square in Umhlanga, among a small strip of shops and restaurants. The lighting is dim and the decor is very interesting. The walls of Angelos are full of white plates which have been signed by famous people who’s visited the restaurant over the years.

Good pre-comrades meal for my boyfriend, sevice was good too. Recommend it for a nice low key meal, nothing to fancy and portions are a good size

I absolutely love Angelos - it's like walking into an Italian home. I love all their pasta and their pizza is woodfired and delicious. It's an Italian restaurant but with a cosy feel - I promise you won't be disappointed

Fairly busy for a monday night which may have been why service was on the slow side but held together by a great management presence which managed to keep everything flowing we sampled two dishes one being a pasta gamberi which was really good full of flavour the other was the mushroom risotto which was ok have had better so overall mixed feelings look forward to trying there pizza's.

I went to Angelos Ristorante on a Friday afternoon with a friend. We were in the Granada Square when we found this gem of a restaurant. The place was already filling up with customers even when it was barely lunch time. Just goes to show how popular this place is. An interesting thing about the décor is that anytime a celebrity eats at this restaurant, they ask them to sign a plate, which they've hung on the walls. They even have pictures of the owner's family, going back 4 generations. The little members of the family have hand prints on the wall :) This gave off a very nice vibe of the restaurant and somehow felt homely.<br/><br/>I ordered a Napolitana pasta, which is pasta in tomatoes, olive oil and garlic, with basil and parsley. It was a simple dish but full of flavor. The tomatoes were fresh and you could taste that in the dish. My friend ordered the Chicken Fegato, which was pasta in chicken livers flamed in port, chilli tomato and cream. She said it was delicious and the heat level was just right. The best thing is that I could order it in a smaller portion (small appetite). Another thing that I liked about the restaurant is that they have the same dishes as on the main menu in their lunch menu, with lower prices. <br/><br/>I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to catch up with friends over a drink or for a special occasion. Any which way, you are bound to have a good time with delicious food.
