Great food and atmosphere in the restaurant which is part of the museum. Well worth a visit but booking a must as people were being turned away all evening it was so busy. Try the trio of deserts.
A friend who owns a guesthouse in Swellendam recommended that we visit the Drostdy Restaurant and we are so glad that we took her advice. The staff are friendly and helpful, the menu is varied and the food was delicious and attractively presented. There were people of all ages sitting inside and outside. Prices for food and wine were very reasonable. We are already looking forward to a return visit in March 2018
One of those hidden places that needs more attention. Really delicious food that was beautifully presented. Book in advance, as it is getting full. Very romantic during load shedding. Hint: swap the fries. come with the beef for the smashed baby potatoes!

We read through the reviews below and after having dinner there tonight ourselves I can truly say: one of the best restaurants I have been to during my holiday in South Africa with the best service! The ladies were friendly, knowledgeable, funny and so kind. The three course dinner was outstanding, delicious food and served to nicely. The whole atmosphere was cozy and you felt welcome the minute you entered the room. I can 100% recommend this restaurant and would always come back! Thank you so much!
A wonderful place in an old historical building. The hospitality of the staff is heartwarming. The food with a variety of complex and well chosen combination of flavours, absolutely delicious. Book on for hand, because even during the week it can be fully booked!
Our visit was amazing over at Drostdy. The waiters were very friendly and very nice, and the meals were amazing with rich flavours and lots of options. I ordered the seafood curry and it was very special and delicious. If you go through Swellendam you should definitely go eat at Drostdy Restaurant.
Set in a historic building on the main road through Swellendam. Food is prepared by one the owners who happens to be French. The food quality is exquisite! A bit more upmarket and pricey but worth the experience! Ideal for romantic dinners and special occasions.
We sat by the fire which was so nice and warm on a chilly winter evening. We were blown away when the food arrived.. we definitely did not expect to experience the quality and flavours that we discovered last night. The calamari salad took me back to our Thailand trip.. the steak.. perfectly done with the most amazing and unique blue cheese sauce.. highly recommended.
Dostdy is always on on dining itinerary when visiting Swellendam. It was a hot summers evening, however there was a heavy downpour. When enquiring with the restaurant, they confirmed that there was no set dress code, other than comfortable.
All courses were superb, I enjoyed a Salmon Trout & Avo starter, Pork Belly for mains and Apple & Berry Crumble and my fiance tucked away on the Tomato Soup as a starter, Lamb Shank as a main and Ice Cream and Chocolate sauce. Everything was delicious!
Food was really good. Staff were attentive and available. Starters were just the right portion and tasty. Think the souffle was slightly overdone. Mains were great especially the venison trio. Not great at social distancing. Place has a beautiful setting and ambience. Should try if in the area.
Lovely restaurant, amazing food. We were lucky to have a table near the large fireplace as it was a bit cold and we had not expectations. Turned to be one of the culinary highlights of our vacation. Friendly staff and enjoyed our chat with the chef.
