Review De Brasserie - Strand

We were most impressed with this restaurant. Treat yourself and enjoy an upmarket dining experience at De Brasserie. We were made to feel welcome even though they didn't have a table for us when we arrived. The barman (I think Patrick) asked what kind of wine we preferred and then gave us a taste of a wine he recommended. After we had been shown to a table, I felt queasy and stepped out for some fresh air. Our waiter was attentive to immediately pick it up and open some doors for fresh air. Full marks for service, ambience and food! (PS. Go and check out their amazing state-of-the-art toilets😉)

Stopped here by chance - and were very glad we did. Wonderful exterior seats (with a great view) and utterly delicious food - the salads were fresh and tasty, while the seafood was exceptional. Service was stately, but this was I feel reflected in the food, which was outstanding (and very reasonably priced). The two queries we had (over the lack of semi-skimmed milk and their ‘no bread while sitting outside’ policy) were courteously and thoroughly addressed. A lovely relaxing place to visit, one we’d return to. ALSO - space age toilet facilities!

The food , OMG . I had salmon with a side of fried rice. Wow 👌, that salmon was just perfection. The waiter was attentive and friendly. Would recommend this place for sure

Such a magical and stylish restaurant! We met up for a late morning coffee ☕with this amazing plate of a biscuit, with tiny piece of cake, a small chocolate and this delicious lemon shot with cream!! Delightful!! Such a great restaurant to meet friends for either a meal or at the bar for a drink. I will definitely be back 😁🎄🎅

Love to sit here and watch the sunset. Brasserie, please buy a gas stove so you can make hot chocolate on the cold days when there’s load shedding? I can also give you my granny’s flask te keep water warm? 😅Other than that, what a lovely lekker restaurant.

Been long time customers of De Brasserie. Never had a bad experience in all the times we’ve been and we go a lot. Food is always great and the service is next level, they really do a great job choosing their staff and you can see they are very well trained. Oysters and the Belgian beers are always a hit and the sushi is very underrated top 3 in the Helderberg for sure! Well sheltered from the wind on the deck for sundowners. Keep up the good work!

Great restaurant right on the beach front. Service was friendly and very good. We tried a variety of the menu options and everything was fresh and very flavourful. One of the best meals we've had in a while

I loved the look and feel of the restaurant but I was slightly disappointed by the service that was provided. I don't know if it was specific to a busy night but I remember that the sushi I ordered took way longer than is sushi would. Also I must mention that the table next to us had the same experience. Otherwise this place is a good spot for catching some sunset and I'm hoping that when I visit next time I will have a different experience because it's kind of a cool restaurant. Loved the art pieces outside.

Great service the waiters are attentive and friendly. The food is really good and well presented. The coffee is delicious and I love how they serve it with a homemade egg liqueur. The view is worth the price :)

I really enjoyed my time at this restaurant. They have delicious wine and good food. I had sushi which was good but I have had better sushi at other restaurants. I do like the variety of meals offered on the menu. I enjoyed the good quality wine on offer. The venue itself has really nice decor and is structured and arranged in an interesting way. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Another great aspect of this restaurant is the great service.

I was disappointed with my Caesar salad which was bland and had no chicken and too much anchovy. But the atmosphere more than made up for it. It’s a nice place with a chic crowd.

Great location, nice to sit and watch the kite surfers. Friendly staff. Make sure to book a table, the place is always full (for good reason)

The place is awesome,some classic wine I had we booked for my birthday dinner and all went well the was on point the staff was always checking up on us it was lovely 😍!!!!!

Aside from the obvious breathtaking view, this little gem is a must to visit. Sundowners are brilliant on the terrace (bubbly and oysters are just divine here) and coffee/tea is an occasion on its own at De Brasserie... served with a Palmier biscuit, mini Madeira cake slice and when available: a tot of egg liquer. Delicious!! The sushi is pricey, but good and the desserts even cater for a variety. I tend to order the chicken and seafood options for mains as I've had extremely tough and unpleasant stew here before (stoofvlees on the menu), but the other meals make up for that option. In the dessert options Crepes Suzette is a menu favourite of mine. Beware though: depending on who serves you, your experience can unfortunately be either very good or well below par. Still... a great place to tick off your have-to-visit list.

Definitely the best restaurant I've been to yet, great food, great service & a great vibe! Keep up the good work chef / staff! The only fault I would give "De Brasserie" if I was pushed would be the space between the tables.

Good service, beautiful restaurant setup and view, prices a bit steep but the taste and quality of the food makes up for it. A kids meal option or 2 would make this a 5star for me.

Exceptional food, best service, great location, interesting food and drinks menu with a variety of beers, cocktails, and wines and to top it all, a very relaxed atmosphere. Always a pleasure going there ☆☆☆☆☆

Die dens was baie power en die ons moes almal met ons arms waai ten einde die aandeg van die "waiter"te kry. Selfs die mense wat om ons gesit het, het hulle koppe geskud nadat ons telkemale hul aandag probeer trek het en nie daarin kon slaag nie. Ek sal verseker nie weer daarheen gaan nie.

I went there on the 1st of April as it had been highly recommended to me. I was bitterly disappointed with the table next to us smoking heavily on those electronic pipes and billowing smoke all over us. The staff told me that they are allowed to puff all over us and our food. Will not recommend or return to this place.

Relaxing afternoon on the terrace of the Brasserie...friendly staff....ha ing the oyster special 007Oyster...including a glass of either Lace S.Blanc or MCC Simonsig! Excellent Oysters from Namibia...all other starters sound great as well....steak tartar...pate...bouillabaisse...prawns...sushi...etc.....!Cheers Annette

Excellent service, fillet beef and prawns was cooked to perfection. Wash all down with a glass of Belgian Duvel beer and watch the Kitsurfers thrash around in the surf. And a Japanese bidet style toilet to end the evening.

Went to lunch with a friend. We were greeted by very friendly staff and experienced front of house staff. The wine from Almenkerek Wine Estate was very refreshing and pleasing on the pallet. I had the Fresh Norwegian Salmon followed by the Pavlova which was excellent. The plating and presentation of mains and dessert was perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed our luncheon and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Ek gaan nie Engels praat nie...wat n WIT vel diskreminasie resturant in die Strand...die Buurtwag wou n persoon arresteer oor "DWELMS VERWANTE OORTREDING" en die bestuur....JOOP se vrou tree in saam met haar kelders wat natuurlik niks daarmee te doen hoef te he nie...of miskien...en toe ons die kelder vra nadat hy aan diens is...hoekom raak hy betrokke op die sypaadjie toe raak hy baie opgwerk met ons...wys ons net weereens dat die resturant n negatiewe houding het teenoor ons Blankes in die Strand HET....nou ja die Bossiekop van n vrou...JOOP se vrou jaag ons toe uit die resurant uit en se HAAR resturant is vir buitelanders en nie ons nie...nou se ek vir jou Mev Bossiekop jy het nog nie gesien wat ons kan doen nie...bedien jy maar die buitelanders en sien wat gebeur...so...ons geld is nie goed genoeg vir jou nie....ek lag al klaar lekker....

We will be back, the service (waiter) was top class and our starters and dinner just perfect.. that home made bread and butter was a real winner. Our first of many more visits on Saturday.

What an amazing experience it was. Top class service with food to die for. I had the rabbit and my friend had the fillet steak. I would just use homemade fries. But that is just me.

I was thoroughly impressed with the new decor of the restaurant - the cheese croquettes were delicious and beautifully presented- the cappuccino at the end of the meal was the piece de resistance - quite amazing - loved the Advokaat shot that accompanied the coffee together with the chocolate and two pastries. The potato and leek soup was beautifully prepared - a very enjoyable gastromic experience!

Quite the jewel in the crown along the Strand esplanade. A varied, uncomplicated menu with choices to satisfy most tastes. Dishes are expertly prepared to perfection. One cannot help but save money to return for another gastronomic delight not yet savoured on previous visits.

Best mussels I’ve ever had, cooked with chilli, ginger and scallions - as simple as that. Washed down with a cold, crisp Chenin Blanc. Bliss!

Celebrated my birthday with my hubby and kids. It was awesome, the steak was delicious and atmosphere great. Loved every minute of our visit.

Used to like it, but will not return. Our family weren't allowed in, because my toddler girls didn't wear shoes with their fairy dresses. On a sunny Saturday morning. Sad.

Average service erratic were off to a good start but things deteriorated as the afternoon progressed not much management presence �

De Brasserie<br/>Strand<br/><br/>So last night we experienced a wonderful event at De Brasserie, Thier Wine Evening. 10 wonderful wines with 3 excellent dishes. With representatives from Boschendal, Luddite and Paul Cluver plus our hosts from Almenkerk.<br/><br/>We started off with the 2 Bocschendal MCC's - Boschendal Brut and Boschendal Brut Rose and an Amuse Bouche of a peeled tomato stuffed with creme cheese, topped with an olive and puff pastry with chutney onions and cucumber.<br/><br/>One thing we did not have a lack of glasses on our table. We then had a glass of Boschendal Sauvignon Blanc, Luddite Sabo Teur and a Paul Cluver Chardonnay with our starters. Starters: 4 pieces Tuna Sushi platter. Was perfect to start with and some really great tuna. Beetroot Carpaccio (v). Which would have been my second pick and looked delicious.<br/><br/>With our main meals, we had 3 reds, Paul Cluver Pinot Noir, Luddite Syrah and the Boschendal Cabernet Sauvignon. I think the Syrah was my favourite with the Pinot Noir close behind it.<br/><br/>Main meals: Kingklip on a bed of vegetables with a butter sauce. The kingklip was perfectly cooked, Soft and flakey. I had the Duck breast with baked sliced potato and a delicious orange sauce. Aubergine Parmigiano (v) with a garden salad.<br/><br/>To end off the dessert wines, Paul Cluver Noble Late Harvest and the Almenkerk Noble Late Harvest. The Paul Cluver here was the outstanding one. Not too sweet or overpowering, complementing the dessert perfectly.<br/><br/>Desserts: Mini Cheese Board. Selection of cheeses with some Melba toast and some figs. Eton mess. Which was light and crunchy. Panna Cotta. Smooth and delightful.<br/><br/>Such an amazing evening, and to be able to chat with the representatives and hear their stories was something really different and enjoyable.<br/><br/>Looking forward to trying some of the new dishes at De Brasserie as some of the new dishes will make an appearance on the menu.<br/><br/>As this is one of our most visited eateries, We will be back here soon and De Brasserie's teeth rating:<br/>Food: 9 "teeth" out of 10<br/>Service and Staff: 8 "teeth" out of 10<br/>Ambience: 8 "teeth" out of 10<br/>Overall: 25 "teeth" out of 30

Had a great meal on the outside deck in the warm winter sun. The meal was outstanding as was the wine and staff. Always a pleasure to go back there as the food, service and setting are an absolute pleasure.

Walked into a shop that is so full , there is no space for a mouse. This means its a really good restaurant ! <br/> They had surprises around every corner ! The food is traditional but tasty . The waiter and bar service was amazing !!!! Each person in the shop were looking after us ! I have never seen this before ! Great excellent service ! You even receive the cutest set up with coffee ! Sushi , steak , fish ..... tapas , you are bound to get your taste ! And .... the greatest wine ever ! Almenkerk !!! The chardonnay was exquisite .

This place gets worse every time. We used to love going for lunch or dinner. But since January 2017 the service is awful. The coffee that I loved is also disappointing now. Some people get the whole plate with "treats" on and some people don't.

Who knew that this little gem was waiting for us in the strand. When driving by one could easily pass it over as just another restaurant but do yourself a favour and go in for a meal. It is a restaurant that offers carefully selected menu options with phenomenal service and some of the nicest wines you can enjoy during dinner. Everyone is very professional and explains the meals in detail. The restaurant is basically an extension of the almenkerk wine farm so it really does add something extra to the normal meal. We will most certainly be going back often to enjoy a mix of french, dutch and local cuisine. Hands down the nicest place we have eaten at in this area

Great view. Well trained staff and very professional. Quality wine list. Pork belly was my favorite item on the menu. If you are in the area do not hesitate to pop in. Nice selection of Belgium beers 🙂

Upmarket restaurant on Beach Road in Strand. Had the salmon and really enjoyed it along with their house wine Almenkerk. Waiters are friendly and service is really good. The dishes are well presented and I was impressed with the presentation of the cuppucino. Overall a wonderful experience.

Whenever you find yourself in the Gordons Bay or Somerset west area in Cape Town, do yourself a favor and visit The Brasserie at Strand, the Fillet, and Sushi is mouth watering and a must👍🏻👍🏻

Very nice setting to have coffee and chat with good friends. Unfortunately the wind was extremely strong so we had to sit inside and not on the stoep which has a beautiful view of the sea. The menu looked very interesting so we will definitely return so have dinner.@

I read quite a few reviews before deciding on De Brasserie. I must admit when someone said they make the best sushi in Cape Town, I thought it was worth a try! We got there around 5:30pm on a Saturday and they were already fully booked. The lovely waiter however asked us to sit at the bar, while he made a plan to find us somewhere suitable to sit. Within 5 mins we were seated! We both had sushi for our starter and it was delicious. I had the rabbit as my main and it was fall off the bone tender and packed full of flavour. The hubby had the fish au gratin which was equally good. I finished off my meal with a cappuccino that was beautifully presented and equally delicious. I could not fault this gem of a restaurant. Great food, great service and great ambience.

De Brasserie is a really great, upmarket restaurant in the Strand. <br/><br/>They had a stunning set menu for Christmas with an option for wine pairing. They had an amazing vegetarian option for us. <br/><br/>The food was simply unbelievable!! Visually appealing and the taste was out of this world. <br/><br/>Even the service was outstanding. <br/><br/>Thanks guys for making Christmas special. Xx

Good food and excellent service. Warm welcome received from Waiters and was regularly check up on. Downer is that the didn't serve any local common beer that I'm used to however; it's still a great restaurant with a beautiful view of the beach - bonus!

Amazing place, food and service! We had the pleasure to have Bright as our waiter and he was so friendly and helpful! Made us feel right at home. Sushi is a bit on the pricey side but well worth it as a starter. The rest of the food very affordable and delish! Will defnitely go there again!

Lovely restaurant with a beautiful sea view. The decor is simple yet elegant. Staff was very friendly. The food was good. The cappucino was in itself a mini dessert as it came with little cakes and cream, which was unexpected. Overall, would recommend.

What an awesome experience!!! From the bathroom, hehe, to the food, delicious and unique, and definitely our waiter, Hugo , a place is what you make it... The owner's red blend wine, Lace, devine... Pricey but worth it...

Unfortunately the whole experience was a bit poor. Service was a bit slow, and 2 meals at our table were sent back. The 2nd meal came back a 2nd time not right. <br/><br/>Disappointing, not sure if I would come back.

This place is overpriced AF, although the service was pretty good and the Kingklip wasnt terrible. Not great value though and not much variety.

Elegant and wonderful fine dining in the Strand. Excellent wine collection and wonderful view out to sea. Wonderful food- the service is outstanding. The rabbit was amazing. Will come here again.

I love De Brasserie. The calm and classy setting rounded off with Strand's beautiful beach it makes for the perfect setting for drinks, dinner or a catch-up-coffee. The waiters are always friendly. The food is amazing and affordable!

Freshly brewed coffee and baked bread is one way of making me smile. Simple really and De Brasserie did just that. The French restaurant reminds me of Cucina di Giovanni - 5-star service and beautifully prepared food. #CroqueMonsieur

Great with a glass of wine out on the deck as the afternoon winds down with a view of the beach. Staff was exceptionally friendly and efficient. The salmon on avo mash was good, prepared to perfection. The rabbit disappointed, the side dishes could also do better. Will return for drinks on the deck.

So much goodness. I LOVED everything I have had at this restaurant. Their sushi is super fresh, their cocktails are amazing, salads are interesting , not the mention the steak and their crispy chips. My husband had the rabbit and was so impressed with the tastes and textures and how soft the meat was. Also absolutely love the way they serve their coffee. Staff are amazing and it is just an awesome experience over all. Also - be sure to taste the cherry beer .

Absolutely loved this quaint little place! We didn't beat here but stopped for a coffee and was so surprised to see the cutest and most decadent cappuccino arrive!!! The staff are well dressed, attentive and professional! Excited to com back here.

The best, food and drinks in the helderberg, third time here and exceeded my expectations every time. Perfect meal starts with oyster special, bistro platter and crepe Suzette with French orange liqueur. Service is the unbeatable, there team set the bar! Don't miss the spot you'll regret it.

De Brasserie is an exquisite, Belgian themed restaurant and is a stand out on the Strand Beach Road strip. The decor oozes classiness and elegance while the well-dressed wait staff continue this trend. The service is really professional but could be faster and perhaps friendlier. The food is prepared from the freshest, finest ingredients and the resulting meals are appeal to both the eyes and the palate.

Amazing restaurant, with cuisines that are beyond your imagination. Have been back about 10-12 tines and the food remains of top quality and rocks your tastebuds. The staff are extremely professional and friendly. The owner and his daughter as hostess make you feel like royalty on every visit. Amazing amazing restaurant

Perfection. Absolute perfection. Had rabbit for the first time with an imported beer that's been matured in fruit. Best eating experience of my year so far. Bravo.

We went to Somerset West for 3 nights & ended up eating here 2 nights in a row. 1st night kingklip & mussels & bouillabaisse ?? excellent! 2nd night we had sushi & tempura prawns. Congrats to Brasserie - best sushi I have had in the Cape. Will be back soon!?

My husband and I went there with our baby and we were pleasantly surprised. We had a lovely meal and the staff were very helpful and friendly. For starters we had a Thai Beef Salad and the Steak Tartare. <br/>My husband had their vegetarian special as main course, which was tasty combination of char - grilled aubergine, layered with haloumi and tomato. I opted to go for the rabbit (yikes!) and was blown away. Tender and tasty, cooked stew-style served with fries and salad my meal proved to be more than worth the R130 they charged for it. <br/>The restaurant is tastefully decorated and their tasty meals and friendly service makes this place one of our new - found favorites.
