Review Asami's Somerset Value Mart - Somerset West

I want to share my story about the "Restaurant that DiD". I used to go to this little Sushi Restaurant, and really enjoyed the food, and service. The service was good, and the food good enough, although not great. As time went by, and perceived a decline in the quality of food, to the point where the food was bland, many times 80% deep fried, and the roundabout basically empty. Claudine and I went there one night, and there was about no Sushi, and the about 80% deep fried "whatever" on the roundabout. Much to Claudine's embarrassment, I lost it (as I was REALLY in the mood for Sushi), and loudly (VERY) proclaimed my dissatisfaction at the food. If I remember correctly, JP (Owner) contacted me, and invited me back (after apologizing). Back we went, and the experience was as bad, with very little and even less variety. I left, and told him to phone me when, and if he thinks he is ready to serve me decent Sushi. After a while, the craving got the better of me, and I popped in for a quick look, and my my my ............ It has now been a while, a LONG while, and a group of friends and myself go there at least once a week. The food, loooooordy me, is FANTASTIC.... the service amazing. I am NOT saying that they might not have a slightly bad day every now or then, but trust me when I say that the food is indeed stupendous, as is the service. I am not trying to assume credit for anything, but cudos for JP and his fantastic staff. Asami's Somerset Mall, Thank you, you listened, upped your game beyond expectations and we will continue to see you weekly, for our sushi fix...

Excellent Asian food at a very good price. Mondays there's a 2for1 noodles special and the sushi combo was buy 2 get 1 free. Very tasty and such large portions. We'll most certainly be back there. Shoo. What a treat!

I had a great experience. Placed orders and came verh quickly, tasted fresh and delicious! Very friendly waiters and atmosphere was relaxing and open. Spacious with room for many to sit and enjoy! Buffet was R199 and theh have combo set meals at R165 Lots of parking space outside

Their mussels on the belt are to die for. Tuna sashimi I sent back. The sushi is good. Again - on the belt - cause they get very busy. A little overpriced for eat as much as you can but we’ll worth the selection

The sushi buffet is amazing! I have not found a sushi item on their menu that I don't absolutely love. The service is a hit or miss depending on the time you go through and how busy they are but that is to be expected. They also cater for takeaway sushi which means that even though it might not look busy they might have a lot of takeaway orders they are prepping so wait times can be a bit longer then expected. However in my opinion if you're not in a major rush then it is definitely worth the wait! I can't personally comment on their other food items as we mainly go here for sushi, however my wife has mentioned in the past that their chow mein and hot plate was not entirely to her liking and a bit bland compared to other asian restaurants.

Price & size is good, but the taste varies. Its not always the same and compared to other places their rice is very bland. I'm not complaining, I'm just saying. Been buying from them for a long time.

Since the day Asami's Restaurant opened in Somerset West, I was hooked, with friendly staff, excellent food and, wow, value for money. The weekend special is a must go, THE HAKE AND CHIPS.!!! thin crispy crust with a silky, soft and tender piece of hake waiting to melt in your mouth, it is simply delicious.

We go here on a regular basis. The sushi is good, but can be better. If you are looking to eat a lot of sushi at a reasonable price then this is the place to go! 🍱 The waiters are very friendly😁

Sushi is amazing (for a person who doesn't eat a lot of sushi). Well presented. The food from the sushi bar was top tier. You can take anything and as much as you as part of a Sushi Buffet and pay only R179 (tips exclusive). Value for money. Was satisfied and very happy afterwards.

Wife and I had their 2x chicken meals special deal, outstanding quality and huge portions including 4 spring rolls for R149 total. Above and beyond expectation. Will definitely be back!

Very good service and delicious food. Waiting times are average but not terrible. I recommend you try this place and experience well prepared Asian cuisine.

One star might seem harsh, but I've loved going to Asami's since it opened, and always recommended it to my friends. Sadly, no more. The last three visits have completely eroded my loyalty. This week I took my son there for a treat. We chose the buffet, and I think I had maybe 2 plates of salmon roses before I realised that there were no more black plates on the belt. We waited for over half an hour and in that time did not see a single black plate on the belt, nor a single plate of salmon roses. The very good waitress we had informed us that there was no salmon which is astonishing - I've noticed this downward trend with Asami's lately, and sadly cutting costs like that will destroy what was a very good business. I doubt I'll be going back. Rather head to one of the other spots available on one of their half price nights.

The only place I eat sushi. Love all the specials they run. Especially the seven plate special that you can share. Always a awesome vibe from Matt who is welcoming and attentive.

We’ve been regulars at Asamis since opening however tonight was so disappointing. The belt had no variety and was empty for most of the night, cold spring rolls and wontons going round continuously with an occasional salmon rose plate as the one chef stood making only those all night. We were told we could order when we complained but surely that defeats the object of sitting at the belt? The sushi is sloppy and untidy, salmon roses falling over and not uniform, bamboo rolls not even round and the other plates just not neat. Sushi is all about looking beautiful. Possibly the worst was the fact that the counter wasn’t cleared or cleaned as people left. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come as we’ve really enjoyed your restaurant in the past.
