WOW, WOW! Went on the 29th of Jan(for my birthday), and I have found 1 of my fave restaurants! Had the prawn starter, and the oxtail with jolof rice for mains! I will be going back to Asanka very soon! The décor, food and service was just amazing! Thank you guys :)

Tried Asanka with a Hyperli voucher which offered a three course meal. Meals were well prepared and presented, but found the flavours a little underwhelming. Service was friendly and the decor for my taste was a bit blingy. This is a restaurant specializing in West African cuisine, so worth a try for something different.

Amazing food which is prepared to perfection. The staff is amazing and the drinks seems is good. This is one of those restaurants where you have to come back to try other foods on the menu.

It is the second time that I went to Asanka. I had a visitor from overseas with me this time. Chef Rouget surpassed himself!!! We had a 8 course sample dinner. Just one word.... OUT OF THIS WORLD. Chef you deserve to receive Michelin stars.. Continue the hard work. You are a legend.

Beautiful place. It's nice to find a decent West African inspired restaurant in Joburg. Brought back so many memories from our recent Ghana trip.Nonkululeko Magi

Asanka, a Ghanaian grinding pot, is a place where African flavours are fused together with a cosmopolitan style that Sandton is accustom to.

The food was a 50/50. The Baharat Prawn was really nothing to write home about and the Poached Strawberry dessert was incorrectly described and very plain. We haven't tried everything, but what we can say is go for the Oxtail Stew and Harissa Brisket, it was just divine, no, it was... Bewitching. Proper portion sizes with bold and tasty flavours, these were a real winner.

It was very odd that the restaurant didn't have a lot of the ingredients that they used in their menu. More than half of the cocktails, a few sides and half of the desserts weren't available. These are only the ones we know of as we tried to order them but couldn't.

Our main complaint would be the service. It really felt like our waitress wasn't trained properly, she was rarely at the table and we had to look around and indicate that we wanted to order something. She also didn't notify us about the unavailable menu items, which was very unpleasant, especially when we were waiting the whole evening for a certain dessert that wasn't available.

Atmosphere was amazing. Big open fancy looking restaurant with modern art pieces all round and decor to set anyone at ease. With this was some light Afro-fusion music which really set a nice mood for the evening.

We do feel the restaurant was a bit expensive if you look at the negative points of the evening. A Hamilton Russel Chardanay bottle was going for R820, now we know this is an amazing wine but that is one hell of a markup. Also, 2 pieces of normal sized prawn for R70 is kind of stretching it.

TTT’s rating out of 5: Food - 4 | Service - 2.5 | Atmosphere – 5  | Value - 3

Everyone who visits and lives in JHB needs to try Asanka at least once, the food is AMAZING. I am not very adventurous when it comes to new foods, but I'm so glad I tried something new. The contemporary-African menu is great for those who want to try West-African food (which was delicious) and the international foods (for those who want to eat something they know). Great food, great chef.

Asanka takes the Afro-fusion cuisine to a new level. We really enjoyed the West-African food. This is what you call black excellence. Their food is off exceptional quality for a reasonable price. I predict that this restaurant will soon become one of the most popular fine dining places in Rivonia.

When I first went to Asanka on a Friday night, I felt a bit disappointed as the restaurant was quite empty and thus lacked ambiance. A fairly empty restaurant on a Friday night is not normally a good sign.
I would rate higher if there was a little more ambiance.
We were a table of 5 and ordered a variety of starters and mains.

The West African menu was surprisingly good, and although I ordered from the main menu instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find the short rib and the pork loin were both of high quality and prepared with natural flavors to bring out the quality of the underlying ingredients, unlike most modern restaurants that heavily salt their food to the point that your pallet is unable to appreciate anything else.

I am usually a bit nervous when ordering West African cuisine, but Asanka seems to have taken West African cuisine to a new level. If you are looking for a new culinary experience Asanka is worth a go.
