I had my birthday party here this weekend in the beautiful classy private room. We had the luxury to taste all the delicious tapas for starters before we enjoyed our impressive main meals, it definitely broadened my culinary horizon. From my very first step through the front door, to the last sip of my well chosen red wine, it was just perfect. Thank you!

Very good restaurant, my wife loved the cocktails I don't drink but really enjoyed the tapas. I will be back to try some more of the menu. The desserts were really delicious and looked great.

I am so happy that a true tapas and cocktail bar has opened in Fourways. Just walking up the stairs and reaching Carnelian was an experience to be shared. From the moment we arrived (to my friends Bachelorette party), we were showered with exceptional service and so many options of cocktails and tapas. It was honestly something so different and fabulous that we've now made it our regular "girl's night out" spot :)
I also see that there are private rooms and if the service and food is half as good as our friends bachelorettes was, then I'll be booking Carnelian's venue for my next staff strategy sessions.

If you are looking for a romantic, fun and tasteful evening this is THE place. The service, food, atmosphere and drinks were all divine. I cannot wait to go back, next time with a group of friends for a fun evening. The private rooms are perfect for a work dinner/function/private dinner!
FOOD & DRINK....
My favs were, the sushi dishes, halloumi, fish cakes and the margaritas :-) My boyfriend really enjoyed the meat dishes and raved about the pork belly.
SERVICE......
Our waiter Themba was an absolute gem and knew exactly what he was doing and was extremely knowledgeable on the wines, food and cocktails.

This place is pretty new on the block, it’s at Design Quarter next to the Woolworths.
There’s a restaurant downstairs with fairly priced food. Which is really great. The main attraction is their upstairs area with amazing decor and just a great ambience. Recommend it for a night out with a group that wants to have fun but not in a place that’s too loud. Great music too.
10.05.2018 I attended the launch of The Carnelian restaurant. A new Tapas bar filled with Elegance and Style, not only in the decor but the food too.
It is situated upstairs above The Rock Diner, so the staircase is a bit of a challenge (especially after 1 too many). Lovely open spaces, gorgeously decorated, we had the pleasure of sitting in the sunken "Living Room" filled with greenery and fab decor. Our waiter for the even for an absolute rockstar. Moses managed to serve our mad bunch with a smile on his face and assisted with all our crazy demands throughout the night.
The place was crowded for opening night, and alot more people had arrived than they had anticipated so it did make the evening a bit more cramped and the service started to impacted as a result. Nonetheless Miles Khubeka (Vuyo) kept us entertained with his quirks, so great meeting him in person.
During the evening we got to taste a variety of foods which we had to share as best possible consisting of :-
• Sushi - didnt get to try the tempura prawn:-(
• Fishcakes - didn't taste these
• Tempura Styled Green Beans with Sesame Soy Sauce - AMAZING the bom.com
• Pork Belly - Really YUMMY
• Corn on the Cob - sadly the butter wasn't melted
• Snoek on Mini Pitas - Delicious
• Lamb Chops with Mango Atchar - Juicy and tender
• Bacon and Crouton Salad - didnt try this
• Mini Doughnuts and Orange Syrup - not my flavour
• Cheese Croquettes- not bad.
• Vegetarian Croquettes - didnt taste
• Arancini balls - yummy.
• Sorbet and Meringues - a bit too sweet
Drinks i tried the "Stone of Motivation" and it was refreshingly tasty as well as another one we got on arrival which I've completely forgotten the name.
Would definitively go back here to try the food in a more calm state with no masses of people rushing around.

Great vibe and buzz and a pretty cool menu with traditional favorites and new options. Good decor and service (well done Oscar).
The food is pretty good. Made well and flavorsome. The sole was perfect served with a light sauce.
The Excalibur - Roasted thighs that are deboned with a great braai flavor and creamy lemon sauce.
Definitely will be back as the menu range is extensive and everything else looked great!
We made a Sunday Lunch reservation and selected table 200 out on the terrace.
The tapas dishes were all delicious. We chose so many that it would be unfair to pick and choose which was our favorites.
There restaurant and decor is exceptional with a secluded room for a party hidden away down a flight of stairs, as well as another private room that can be reserved. A definite thumbs up from me.
The chic tapas bar offering by The Rock franchise. It is a chilled after dinner, sundowners /fancy cocktail lounge spot. A limited menu but if you ask nicely you can get orders from downstairs. It is beautifully decorated with the marble top bar as the feature. Two private closed off areas for intimate parties or meetings. A hugh velvetly couch, fireplace and accents to brighten up the place.
A specialised cocktail menu, but most usuals spirits are available and a very impressive wine selection adds to the ambience and classiness to the place. I loved the salmon fishcakes and cocktails were delicious. The prices are on the higher end but definitely a nice spot to start or end your night.
Carnelian, situated above The Rock in the Fourways Design Quarter is something unlike any restaurant I've experienced in Fourways.. It boasts expertly made cocktails served by the Absolute Vodka Best Cocktail Barman in the country, Prosecco-on-tap and one of the most exquisite private dining areas that I have ever seen in the form of ‘The Living Room’.
We spent a relaxed evening enjoying some delicious cocktails recently at Carnelian and I could not have been more impressed with Barman George and his team.
Did you know that the Bloody Mary was invented at Harry's New York Bar in Paris in the early 1950's when bartender Ferdinand Petiot poured Vodka into a glass of tomato juice? Or so our barman George told us on our visit here recently. 🍅
This particular Bloody Mary by Carnelian at the Rock is made using a spicy Umami mix and I liked it! A lot! The cocktail list offered is tailored and, in my opinion, exceptionally well put together, sticking to a small number options that are then made to very high standards and presented beautifully. Basically, its the Bloody Mary of all Bloody Marys!
Onto the food:
Carnelian's signature tapas menu offers a spread of tapas style bites and we got to sample everything from their charcuterie board to sushi and oysters.
For me, the plate of the evening was the fresh oysters served two ways:
Pickled cucumber and mint.
Citrus salad and ponzu sauce.
Simple, full of flavor and beautifully presented!
Service:
For me, the only downside on this first visit was that the service wasn't all it should be and we were served by several different waiters throughout the evening. That being said, the place was packed so I can't be too harsh.
In summary, Carnelian, to me is the first of its kind in the Fourways area with sophisticated interiors, versatile spaces and expert service setting new trends in all things tapas and cocktails.
*Recommendation: A thoroughly enjoyable spot for some delicious cocktails!
