Review Lima Tapas Bar - Sandton

Dr. Kurhula Nicolleen-Jean
The food is delicious and well seasoned. Drinks are actually overpriced but they do taste really good, we ordered mocktails and they were not blend but tasty. Nice atmosphere and great views if you sit upstairs. Music was also great that night.

This is an excellent place to try out. It’s a really unique and a chilled environment and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The menu has quite a variety to choose from too. They also have hubbly/shisha available, as well as cigars for those who feel like having a puff. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Do try if you find yourself in the vicinity.

Food is enjoyable and the tea cup alcoholic drink was really good when I was still partaking in alcohol however one of the ingredients or something causes uncomfortable chest pain. Just a warning for anyone who tends to experience that with some types of drinks.

I loved my experience at Lima. Every dish I sampled was delicious. The lamb ribs, shank and tacos are incredible. I am 100% going back again! Service was great as well and I felt cared for.

I went here for the Sandton Comedy Club show but arrived early for dinner. The tapas here were excellent from the nachos, tacos, sushi, empanadas and more. I especially loved the jar style drinks! Service was friendly and staff was pretty cool!

We enjoyed the Beef Pasta Special (R85) at Lima Tapas Bar, served in a beautiful red potjie. We were the first customers on a Thursday afternoon so it was very quiet, which we enjoyed. We sat outside looking over the casino area, which had a nice feel to it. The pasta sauce was simply delicious, creamy and full of flavour. The beef strips could have been a bit more tender though. Great experience*

It was Carnival time at Lima Tapas Bar We got to taste some delicious food items that showcase the evolution of food and drinks at this trendy spot. Some of the tasty nibbles included Chicken & Chorizo Empanadas (I could have eaten them all night - hot and tasty) Pulled Pork Mini Tacos, Chicken Skewers, Prawns, Nachos (Cheesy Goodness) and Killer Jalapeno Poppers. If that's not enough they have some really cool cocktails to tickle your taste buds as well as pleasing to the eye. The night was spent with Carnival dancers and a whole variety of Dj's playing banging tunes to get you moving. I just wished the tables had a bit of Carnival decor to add to the vibe. It was a great evening with fantastic service. What can I say #GottaluvMonte

The food was delicious. The prawns were my favorite and the staff was very friendly.

The service at Lima was surpurb, love their tacos with shrimp 🍤 and the most part was the smoking also great view. It's a pity I only took videos mostly to share with you but take my word you definitely won't regret it.

A nice dining experience, the tacos in particular are really delicious. One of the best restaurants in Monte Casino. The service was particularly excellent and our waiter was extremely friendly.
Naki (Nashe)
Lovely place. The food was so tasty. Did not really like the red wine and fruit cocktail jug. I think the ice was too much so diluted the taste of the wine.

The tapas dishes were really good, especially the the ribs and the wings. The prawns were a bit bland. The Picanha steak was incredible. The chimchurri sauce was superb with the steak. Service was very slow. Restaurant was not busy.

We went into limas for comedy night. They have good drinks. I tried the dessert. It was Carmel cream, strawberry and oreos. It was a decent dessert. The covid protocols are really good and they have shields between the tables.

Popped in a quick dinner on my business trip. Really enjoyed the T- Bone steak. Well priced as well

The most delicious food I have ever tasted. Usually at a restaurant we have one good plate of food at this restaurant every plate was divine

Was recommended by a friend to Lima Lounge in Montecasino last night. Atrocious service from a very young looking male waiter, lack of attention, totally blank on the shooters on offer, lame excuse that shooters are not on the menu. Music was however amazing. Not planning on going back anytime soon.

We decided to end our girls day out at Lima Tapas Bar and what an experience we had! We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and shown to the bar area where we spent the night. Sasham took such good care of us and made us feel right at home! If you’re looking for a vibey Saturday night, Lima Tapas Bar is just the place! Fun was had. :) thank you Sasham and team! We’ll be back!

My friend hosted her 30th Birthday Dinner on Sunday, 30th June 2019 at Lima Tapas Bar @ Monte, Absolutely atrocious service and considering we where almost the only table there! She was left so embarrassed, I would not ever recommend going back!!The waiter seemed to wana get rid of us rather than have us there !

Excellent food and excellent venue both times we have been. Have definitely queued up as one of our favorites
No recommendations, all must be tried
Lima.. a place to chill and hang with friends. Small tapas menu but worth each bit. With a main restaurant area and a chill lounge it a hidden gem in Monticasiona. The Fish Taco is a must as well as the Jalapion poppers.

Girlfriend and I went for a drink and a hub in the upstairs lounge. Very vibey, fantastic drinks (especially the presentation) and good music. Would recommend if you're looking for a place to unwind and relax.

Really great place to have a quiet dinner during the week. The interior touch is classy, and staff are friendly and very helpful. Steak was rather over cooked, but meals were tasty all-round👌🏽

Average cost is not R250 for two people.. perhaps R400

I've only ever been here twice and both experiences were very pleasant. A very bright colourful menu, polite staff and great ambience. Will definately be back 😋😋.

Awesome experience with delicious tapas and fresh sushi. The veg meals wear surprising exciting and yummy. Overall lovely experience. Will definitely go back and recommend to others.

Best lamb rack. Everything we tasted was excellent. From the poppers to the nachos and the salads. The highlight was the lamb rack. Highly recommended

Great place to start a date. We went to Lima with a lot of expectations and they had delivered it. Great service! We only went to Lima for pre-drinks but next we will certainly stay longer than just for pre-drinks.

Food and service was great. Place is a little dark inside and there was unisex bathroom that was always occupied but the tapas food was awesome. The paella pot and chorizo goat cheese in calamari was amazing. Sushi was stunning, Pork tacos were tiny but devine, tequila prawn didn’t taste much of any tequila just tasted normal grilled but yummy . Deserts were a bit disappointing though because the chocolate mousse was like warm and tasted more like condensed milk. Overall really good experience.

This place is fairly new so we decided to try it out. The decor is stunning, especially the large staircase with the beautiful wallpaper tiles. The hosts were fabulous but our waitress wasn’t at the same level. Before ordering we asked her a few questions about the dishes and she struggled to answer them. Although she was sweet we expected better service. The chili poppers we had to start were outstanding! They were hotter and better tasting than the local Mexican restaurant down the road. We ordered a variety of meals ranging from sushi, paella, fish to the vegan pasta. All were average, nothing we could rave about. The ambience is probably the best part about this place and it gave off more of a bar vibe than a restaurant. The menu was also all over the place but I understand that people demand Sushi so it has to be on every restaurants menu.

Been there twice. The food is good. Fish tacos were my fav and the little short ribs is just the best! The cocktails are a little different from what’s out there. Ambience is just ok, away from the noise in Monte Casino. Depending on where you are, the view is great and very romantic.

Third time at this restaurant and the portions are significantly smaller each time. I understand that its tapas but perhaps its tapas for kids. Also the empanada and nachos were not as great as the first time I ate here. Quality and quantity compared price has seriously dropped.

We visited Lima for unplanned cocktails after a movie on a Friday. We sat outside on the terrace overlooking the casino but next time I will definitely be inside to appreciate the beautiful contemporary rustic masculine decor, if that could sum it up...
The service was very good, attentive but not over bearing. We ordered a few cocktails as the concoctions looked very interesting. I loved that it was different in terms of taste and theatrical presentation compared to any other place I have visited. The mixes were great. However, the cocktails are too expensive in my opinion.

We decided to share a bento box just for the hell of it. For Tapas, this was a great option. It was well stacked and the food really delicious.

It was just under a R1000 for the bento box, side of onion rings and few drinks. In my opinion an overpriced unplanned outing. I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Impromptu visit for drinks. Overpriced to say the least. May go back for dinner. Service was good but more for a yuppy crowd🤨. Decor is lovely downstairs but upstairs is a bit dodge with a stripper pole🤫

Really not sure how I feel about this place...
It was my partners birthday so I wanted to make it as special as possible.

The food was incredible. I enjoyed every morsel. Well prepared and presented. We had the Tapas. Stuffed calamari, Peruvian Ceviche, the prawns as well as the tacos. Had the sushi as a main. It was INCREDIBLE.

It was a Tuesday night so I’m not sure if that had an impact on the ambiance. It really didn’t live up to my expectations. My drink was drowning in ice, I had to pull the ice out and there was almost none of it left. The manager sorted it out though. I made a reservation and told them it was my partners birthday but I had to keep reminding them and eventually ask them for a song or a complimentary dessert or something. So disappointed in the way the night went but definitely not in the food.

Maybe it was because the World Cup semi final game was playing but... it was a bit sad. I’d go back for the food though...

Relatively good vibe considering it was early in the evening. Waiter was attentive and friendly (Big Up MD) however the food was a let down. Considering the rating it has on zomato. Didn't bother to order mains as the 'starter tapas' where very average. Tried the stuffed calamari and jalapeno poppers and then ordered the nachos... first two doable and not the worst... however the nachos, not worth it, tasteless and you better off with a homemade toastie cheese.
Prices in line with top end tapas restaurants.

Went for dinner there yesterday with my boyfriend for my birthday, we absolutely loved it! We had the pulled pork tacos (so delicious!!), nachos, stuffed calamari, empanadas and the absolute crowd pleaser the 200g ribs 😍the ribs were one of the highlights of my night! What really made this night a winner was our waitress Rose 🌹 what a gem of a human! We ordered one desert to share (lime and tequila cheese cake- which was brilliant and gorgeously served!) and received a special touch from Rose, she brought me a chocolate mouse with peanut brittle ❤️ I cannot explain how incredible this dessert was! Along with a sparkler for my birthday! Thank you so much for making my night so special! I definitely recommend anyone to spend their night here👌🏻

We found ourselves child free on a Friday evening and decided to find somewhere to eat at Monte. We first stopped at Fire Room - fully booked.

Lima was our next stop and they were so friendly and delighted to welcome us in.

The food is described as “Latin American Fusion” and includes a selection of tapas, seafood, Mexican and barbecue type dishes.

We skipped the tapas and Mexican and went for the mains. My partner day a waiter walking by with the rump espetada and ordered it immediately. I chose the pork belly. We ordered mixed veg and fries to share, as sides.

The espetada was perfectly cooked to order and came with some onion rings which my partner declared a hit.

My pork belly was nicely crisp, but I think it could have been cooked a little slower? Or longer? Tasty none the less.

For desert, my partner chose the chocolate mousse with peanut brittle. It was a pretty ordinary mousse, but the crumble was good.

I chose the Peruvian caramel tart. I was expecting a rich dark chocolate, but the dish was a layered light/creamed caramel on biscuits. It was good, but a let down based on my expectation.

The service was very efficient and friendly and the guests varied between dates, family tables and groups of young trendy things.

Although the service as great, in was a little underwhelmed by the food. Perhaps the hype was overdone? A lovely evening, none the less.
If you haven’t been to Lima, should definitely try this Tapa Bar! Great food!! 🍹🍷🥃Generous tapa portions to share! 🍤🥘🍗🍖Modern set up, buzzing vibey atmosphere, your next visit to Monte Casino, in Fourways, a must. Tapas and Ice Cream 🍨 🍦 👍

By far one of the best Tapas places which I have been to. Great vibe with good service. Food never disappoints and there is plenty of variety on the menu.

Really exceptional tapas, loved the tacos and stuffed calamari tubes. Great service, great vibe, only down was the rump anticuchos which was disappointingly small and plain. Overall a good experience- we will be back for the tacos!

Tasty Sunday night tapas.

An unexpected first time visit to Lima after a busy weekend was a great opportunity to chill.

The decor is exquisite and the Latin flavour shines through especially with the beautiful floral wallpaper.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from Andean inspired cuisine but enjoyed the fact that it was adapted for a local palate.

True to tapas style, we chatted and shared a number of small dishes. Nachos lightly seasoned with garlic and lime salt and homemade guacamole. Chicken and chorizo empanadas and chicken anticuchos.

All three dishes were tasty and just the right sized portions for a late shared Sunday nibble. A chilled bottle of Haute Cabriere Unwooded pinot noir was a great accompaniment to our choice of dishes.

The staff were friendly and the manager Brian personally came to introduce himself and make sure we were taken care of. This is always a nice touch.

After our food we enjoyed some cappuccinos to end off the night and will the weekend not too end.

For more follow dazz1210 on Twitter and Instagram and visit www.morethanfoodmag.com

#JoziFoodie #ThisFoodieLife #MoreThanFoodMag #RealPeopleRealTalk

We joined a birthday celebration for a friend in a private area of the restaurant. From the minute we walked in, service was impeccable and attentive even with our large group. The decor added to the wonderful party- ready vibe. The pole in the middle of the room was an interesting touch, guests loved it. The food was delicious. Many small tapas items keeps the meal interesting. Overall a great night out with amazing friends, tasty food and on-point service. I would highly recommend it as a venue for a special occasion and just a fun night out.

Lima Lima Lima! You beaut! Made a reservation here after months of convincing from my friend. How do we rate 3.5 on the new look Zomato ? My cocktail arrived in an endearing little cage , so cute! Our waiter was so knowledgeable of the menu and extremely attentive - well done!

My expectations were really high so this could have been a solid 4 if I didn’t expect a wider tapas variety and slightly better value for money where the bite sized nibbles are concerned. They tasted really good though, the restaurant is classy , has an inviting lounge , and is well managed.

Amazing ambiance at Lima!!
Such a cool vibe, cool music, cool decors😍

I would really recommend that place if you’re in Montecasino!

I had sushi; it was really good.
The tapas are really tasty.

The drinks are awesome and very well presented!

A thoroughly enjoyable experience!

Let me start with the service: excellent throughout! All staff were courteous, friendly and professional. Really refreshing!

Food was generally good throughout. Nice combinations and well executed. Most of the ingredients were fresh (our prawns were great for example) and it makes such a difference. We had the chorizo and chicken empanadas which were nicely made and tasty. However, the grilled lime made all the difference. It’s this experience where I think the food could use a little more of-just a little bit more acid, especially for the seafood dishes. However, I can’t complain (there were some interesting notes like the apple/ginger chimmichurri and charcoal smokiness in the pork belly; the tequila lime salt butter was pretty cool too for our prawn dish)-it was an enjoyable evening and I hope to go back soon.

We have just eaten at Lima. Our waiter was superb and watched us like a hawk. However the cost per couple as advertised on Zapper is nowhere near R250 exc alcohol but more like R500-R600. The food was average with barely a snack for two on each plate. Won’t go there again....😒😒😒
We went here last Friday night for a friend's 21st birthday party. I absolutely love how they've set out the restaurant, the lighting is warm and cozy, the seats are comfortable and relaxing and the atmosphere is warm and relatively intimate without feeling too cramped or boxed in. Although the food and drinks are quite pricey, it is definitely worth the cost. I had the Bees Knees cocktail to start off with which came presented in a glass holder and tasted absolutely amazing. The food we had after that consisted of the pork tacos, the fig and cheese empanadas, jalapeño poppers, wasabi onion rings (interesting taste, but acquired) and some prawns. All the food was beautifully presented and delicious, I only wish there was more of it per serving purely because of how amazing it all was! Other than that the food is tasty, definitely accords with the theme of the restaurant and service is both attentive and friendly. I would definitely go back here!

Good food. Great service and nice view from balcony. Great spot to eat after a show at the Teatro. Really enjoyed the tapas. Everything we wanted for a quick dinner.

Business dinner for 8. Booked ahead. Was a warm welcome from the staff. Was impressed with the decor and service. Every dish we ordered was quite enjoyed. My one issue was the price of sparkling wine by the glass (Pongraz or Graham Beck) a ridiculous R130 which is about the same price I pay for a bottle.

I sure would recommend this restaurant-unfortunately you can’t take your own bottle in - security will send you right back before you even enter the restaurant

My friends and I grabbed a bite here just before we went off to go watch the Illusionists! This place is quite new to Monte - whose restaurants I don't rate all that much - so was quite excited to try it!

It's a lovely little place, very intimate and cozy with some stylish decor, although I'm not exactly sure you'd term it "central American".

We ordered a number of tapas between the 4 of us and they were more than satisfactory! We had the:
* Chicken and chorizo empanadas
* Cheese and fig empanadas
* Veg tacos
* Veg Anticucho
* Pork Belly Anticucho
* Chicken Anticucho

All of them were lovely except for the pork belly who's fat was a bit underdone. This is not the first time I've had underdone pork fat and to be honest with you it annoys me! If you can't do pork belly correctly then rather take it off the menu. It's just easier for everyone. In fact, I regret replacing our beef order with the pork - I have a feeling I would've enjoyed the beef more.

The rest were lovely. You can really tell a lot of thought has gone into the menu with the burnt lemon (which pairs so well with chicken and chorizo empanadas) to the burnt salt with the lemon and tequila cheesecake dessert. I really applaud them on that!

Our desserts were pretty decent too. The only complaint I have about mine - which was the Peruvian caramel dessert - was that they used the caramel treat straight from the tin. Please people, I know salted caramel can take a while to make, but it is the thing that takes a dish from good to great! Seriously, with just a little bit of effort in that space I would've given you a four.

Overall, a good evening and I would definitely head back there for round 2 - just fix the pork belly!
Jo
We sat upstairs which was cosy and very chic. Had quite a few tapas of which the salmon tiradito was my favourite (though it was not served in the usual way that tiradito was served so my initial reaction was not too impressed). Ceviche was nice as well.

How amazing is this place?? You're treated like royalty here. I've been here twice already and I definitely go back. The service is great and the staff members are so friendly.😊😊

Delicious food, good service and great atmosphere. I’ve been to Lima Tapas a few times and they never disappoint. Would definitely recommend!
Tyler Barberis
Recently had dinner here with company. The decor is a stunning mix of industrial and organic modern. However, it's situated one floor up and requires the use of stairs. This may make access difficult for patrons with babies and prams or those in wheelchairs (I may have missed these access points so it might be worth calling ahead to double check if you're planning a visit).

I found the overall experience quite enjoyable, the wait staff were attentive and friendly and the food was tasty and generally well prepared. We shared a selection of tapas plates off the menu which consisted of respective vegetable and pork tacos, jalapeño poppers and the chimchurri cheese steak roll.

Each taco portion was made up of a single taco and filling. Given the price, i felt it this somewhat expensive. However, both tacos were very well prepared. I'd argue that the overall quality and novelty of the dish for me partially compensated for the cost.

I quite enjoyed the jalapeño poppers, although I'd add the proviso that those who struggle with spicy dishes should shy away from these. The peppers tasted as though they had a mild pickle without removing their seeds. They were then breaded, deep fried and topped with cream cheese and sliced spring onion greens. They were fairly hot, but would be enjoyable if you're accustomed to spicy food.

The chimchurri cheese steak roll was a bit of a disappointment. The meat was cooked to the ordered doneness but I bit in to connective tissue at some point which made for unpleasant eating. The bun, meat and mozarella collectively added little to the dish in the way of flavour. However, the chimchurri sauce rescued the dish by contributing a herby tartness which made it more interesting. The sauce smells and looks like it might be spicy, but it really isn't and it was a welcome addition to the bun. The bun is served with fries or salad. We had the fries which were pretty standard

My overall experience was a good one and I'd recommend people try this place out. It would be useful to keep in mind that the idea behind a tapas menu is to order a number of small meals which collectively make up the full meal. If u do this its about as expensive as any of the other places which provide similar ambience and quality of food. The tapas menu added a lovely communal feel to our meal though, where we shared and tasted a variety of dishes. This was a big plus for me.
Aurora
The food is tasty and the place has a great vibe for couples and groups of friends. However, it is incredibly overpriced for teeny tiny portions! Would not return.

I was very interested in going to Lima’s because the rating on Zomato was high but there were also some bad reviews for the food and price. My wife and I had a starter to share, 5 Tappas to share for our main meal, a desert each and some wine and Beer. The whole night came to R880, which is pretty much the going rate for going out these days so they were not badly priced. The food was good. It wasn’t mind blowing but it was very tasty and good value for money. The service was excellent and “Denzel Washington” our waiter was awesome and very knowledgeable about the menu and food. Their Bar area where you can smoke is top draw and a perfect place to relax comfortably after your meal. The venue and ambiance is very good and the decor is classy. All round it was a very good experience. I would recommend it and I will be back.
Candi.smith@dimensiondata.com
Great ambience and decor, very good menu and well prepared food with loads of flavour and Denzel Washington waited on our table - what more could a girl want! The best had to be the cocktail tea though, how original and absolutely delicious too. Loved this place.
Sushi-Sue
Classy venue that pays attention to detail. We had tapas and champagne - everything was delicious especially the oysters. I also prefer sitting upstairs - cosier

I’ve recently visited Lima’s this past weekend for a round of drinks after hearing some good things. The first thing I really liked about Lima’s is the decor. The decor is quite nice and very welcoming. The waiters were very friendly and the service was excellent. I had ordered a vodka martini and was given an option of having the martini made with vodka or gin. The mixture of my drink was perfect as it was neither too strong nor too light. I am not sure what the food is like as the vegetarian options are very limited and I’ve decided on trying the food on another visit. Overall I had a wonderful experience at Lima’s and will definitely be making another visit.
Meagan
Very over priced. Walked in and wanted to book a table, they could seat us for 2 hours. Ended up in the smokers lounge which is not pleasant for non smokers. Had the paello which was bland to say the least. Tacos were tiny. Friend had the poppers and they were too hot, upset her stomach. Didn’t enjoy the experience and won’t go back.

Currently 4.2 rated on Zomato.... HOW???
I had the most average boring meal at Lima... Seriously nothing special to validate the price.
I ordered the deboned (apparently) baby chicken with salad.
The chicken was very average, with burnt edges. The chicken salad as served with some type of mushy cabbage.... not to my taste.
The side salad was drenched in oil and balsamic vinegar.

The service was fair, considering we were the only table at the restaurant.

Safee-Naaz Siddiqi
Excellent service but mediocre food.

You pay a decent amount of money for a small amount of food (R75 for plain nachos on a tapas sized plate) and you expect the ingredients to be high quality - they are unfortunately not.

The servers and managers are fantastic but, given the number of options at Monte, I wouldn’t go back here unless everywhere else was full.
Reshma
Lima’s definitely has the cool trendy vibe and decor going for it. A very impressive entrance but not for those with a pram or have difficulty climbing stairs as you have to climb one level up to get to all the seating and there is no elevator. That being said, the staff who received us were very friendly and offered immediately to help us up the stairs with our pram.
There is a wide selection of food and cocktails to choose from and the cocktails come in the Virgin option as well.
The food while prepared well, didn’t knock my socks off. The fish taco and lamb ribs were the only dishes I enjoyed from the selection of fish and chicken tacos, fig and cheese empanadas, cheese croquettes, sweet potato, homey & aji and lamb ribs. The sweet potato was a rip off, consisting just of 3 slices of cooked potato with a drizzle of sauce.
The service was attentive and we were always checked on and the table cleared up promptly once we were done with dishes.
While it was a good dining experience it’s not at the top of my list of places to eat at again.

Lima is a very appealing restaurant located in Monte casino. I instantly fell in love with the interiors and the decor of the restaurant. One must take a breath to appreciate the effort that's put in. The staff is very warm and welcoming and the service is sublime. The music played was good but could have been a bit louder, nevertheless we enjoyed the beat. We ordered couple of beers, Savana dry and whiskey and all were served well. For starters we tried Veg Nachos & Onion Rings and was made good. I would surely recommend Lima to others for a romantic dinning or just simply to hang out with friends. Do try out their Hukka..looked interesting.

I came here on a weekday evening with friends for a light dinner. We found it after discovering that our favourite sushi place had closed down.
The actual restaurant is very pretty & I absolutely love the decor. They have a very lovely menu that will accommodate most of your cravings, but it is a bit on the pricey side. Because I wasn't that hungry, I just had oysters and sushi, which were both very fresh & tasty. There also have a wide selection of cocktails that come in pretty teapots which I'm obsessed with. However, the service is quite slow which got annoying but atleast that's something that can get better. An overall good experience & I would definitely come again.

Super tasty food and cocktails 👍🏻Service was good and waiters friendly!Tapas abit pricey but very tasty.Great place to have a girls catch-up session!
Elmien.mostert
A little disappointing. Service was not the best (initially no waiter, then he starts taking plates away before everyone at the table is finished eating...and we were only 2 people). Expensive for what you get. The tacos are R45 for one, where at other Mexican restaurants around the corner you pay R60 for 3. The 1 taco was tasty, the jalapeño poppers were ok and the pork ribs were ok. The chicken empanadas were a little on the dry side. Extensive drinks and interesting drinks menu.
We probably won't be back though.

I tried this restaurant based on Zomato reviews and I was not disappointed. We got here on a busy Saturday night and were seated immediately by the friendly staff. I love the dark décor and dimly lit atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive and suggested we try the pork belly and the steak, which was perfect. The chicken wing starters was one of the best I have ever had, with a perfect sauce to accompany it. We shared a dessert of Ferrero chocolate cake which was a magnificent end to the night. Enjoyed the food enough to try it again with friends and they absolutely loved the food. This time I tried the lamb ribs, the portion was a little small but the taste was good. My partner tried the paella, which I tasted and it was absolutely divine. I will definitely be returning to try the other items on the menu.

I'd never heard of this restaurant, I'd never seen it when walking by, but I'm glad my friends had booked a meal there. The table ordered all combinations of tapas, large meals, sushi etc and all comments were very complimentary. The waiter suggested the "picanha" steak, which is a kind of rump steak. It was BRILLIANT. Perfectly cooked, served on a saucy bed of beans with three dupping sauces - red and green chimichurri and BBQ sauce.
Brittany Roberts
Amazing food, friendly staff who are on the ball. Beautifully decorated restaurant and bar. Great vibe for a fun evening out with friends as the bar section has a DJ, or a romantic dinner for two.
Martin Slabber
The picanha...3 dipping sauces, fries and 3 chunks of rump perfectly prepared to medium rare and a chunky puree of black beans...the meat was so flavourfull and the service was amazing...would definitly recommend this place if you out and about and wanna grab a beer and a quick snack....

We came for a quiet lunch on a Friday afternoon and we were the only customers. The menu is awesome and diverse, and the service is great as well as the decor.

I was disappointed in the food. We ordered small plates so that we could taste the menu nicely: prawn sushi burgers, "crispy" salt and pepper calamari, chicken wings and edamame beans. Of that, the only item I enjoyed was the sushi burger, which was fresh and large enough to be ordered as a main meal with a side. Unfortunately they overcomplicated the edamame beans which were over powered by the thick buttery sauce they came in, and the crispy calamari was not crispy. Only the two squid heads that came on the same plate were crispy. The chicken wings weren't great either as the skins were soft and soggy.

We sent the calamari back as the only reason we had ordered them was because we wanted crispy calamari. The manager was willing to have them redone but at that point we were full already.

Perhaps another visit would allow the opportunity to try other menu items but my first impression is that they have overcomplicated the food slightly and thus gotten it a bit wrong on some items.

Food - 10/ 10!
Service - 7 / 10
Atmosphere 8 / 10

Ribs, Wings, Signature Salmon California Rolls, Beef Nachos........ all amazing!

Churritos - yucky - fried in dirty oil - Choc Sauce good quality!

Mojito - 10/10 - well balanced and made with Lime ( not lemon, my pet hate)

Great Spot for a quick bite, or a date night out!

Will deffo see my again! 👌

Chilli, Chocolate, Churros.... Tequila!!! What's not to love! The fusion of the best of Spanish, Portuguese, Italian & Mexican cuisine is fantastic. Fun concept, menu and decor. Great service and Margueritas! Portion sizes are a bit small... so probably best as a drinks & tapas venue rather than a hearty meal out. Also very few veggie options, some of which are apparently "seasonal" but still in the menu (e.g.: Edamame Beans) Perhaps these should be offered as a special when in season to avoid disappointment?

Great atmosphere. Very tasty dishes. A little on the expensive side. Had a great service. Waiter knew the menu backwards. Will go again. Management where visable and involved.

What a lovely "secretive" place in Monte. You might just miss it when walking by. The decor and feel is lovely, with romantic lighting and detail. Staff are friendly and willing to explain. Signature cocktails are yum with creative twists in presentation. We all had sushi which we cannot fault and all opted for the Paella. We had churros for dessert. Overall a lovely experience. Will def be back to sample other items off the menu

This place is really awesome. The decor and setup is wonderful with exciting interior finishes. All tapas we tried was delicious. Great place to hang out with friends over tapas and drinks.
They could do without the electric shesha though. Doesn't add to the experience as much.

Such a lovely evening spent at Lima Tapas Bar.

It was a completely last minute decision but a brilliant one. We walked into the restaurant and were told that there was a section where we could smoke and while it wasn't for me I was pleasantly surprised to see they also had Hooka to hire out, so I was happy.

Our waiter Nash was brilliant tentative and knew exactly what was best so much so that we asked hint to bring us a few of their BEST tapas!!! And Wow did he bring us some of the most delicious food!!!!! The piela was specifically AMAZING!!!!!!!! I would highly recommend Lima Tapas bar to anyone and I will definitely be back!!! 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻

Phenomenal! I loved everything about this place from the décor and ambiance to the bright and friendly staff. The tapas was delicious and it was fun to try a little bit of everything - from nachos to empanadas to cocktails in tea cups. A must try destination.

Limas menu was very enticing and surely did not disappoint. The fish tacos were full of flavors and balanced sweet and spicy so well. The nachos were cheesy and crunchy! The chicken is certified Halaal as confirmed by the manager. A great vibe in the heart of monte casino. Slightly overpriced for the portions received but it's something one can look past.

Portion sizes are insanely small even for a tapas bar. R105 for nachos that is the size of a side plate. After complaining I was told they could organise a half portion extra or get a discount. No thanks. Pricing themselves out the market. It no wonder it's not busy even during peak times.

Thoroughly enjoyed our first dinner at Lima and can't wait to go back! From the tapas to the tacos to the churros...amazing!!!! The service is great and Nash our waiter was really helpful. The restaurant itself is beautiful and was packed on a Tuesday night. Highly recommended!

I finally made it to this tapas bar in the bustling hub of Montecasino this past weekend and could not have been more impressed with both the interiors, the food and our service.

Think upmarket Latin American interiors with stunning views across Montecasino from their upstairs vantage point and plenty of ambient lighting.

The cuisine is inspired by the Andean civilizations of South America and as such encourage sharing plates (tapas).

Onto the food:
Cheese Croquettes - a firm favorite and these really had the right amount of spice and crumbs to make them cheesy perfection!
Salmon Ceviche: raw salmon cured in citrus juice flavoured with aji, garlic and coriander, served with corn and sweet potato in Leche De Tigre. I was not a huge fan of the corn flavor mixed in with my raw salmon ceviche because I felt as if it over-powered any other flavors in this dish, but the plating was beautiful and the salmon fresh.
Oysters served with chopped tomato, onion, cucumber and dill in a rice wine vinaigrette.
and last but certainly not least..
Aji Chicken Livers - spicy, but not too spicy, great texture and what a perfect winter comfort food dish to warm you up!

*Recommendation: We thoroughly enjoyed being tucked away at a window side table watching the world go by and sharing tapas over a glass of wine..

For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

4.5 starts based on one singularity... I've only ever been during the week when it's quiet!
I'd love to to test them in peak hours.

Well run restaurant with well trained waitrons who offer well versed menu knowledge an table management! Manager popped by both times we frequented an checked up on us.

Food is fantastic, I'm a massive fan of Cerviche an Nachos an tacos an empandadas an etc etc etc it goes on an on.. Its a learning curve if you don't know the lingo but once you taste you will fall in love!
Beautiful decor makes me feel like I'm Vin Diesel in a fast & furious movie doing some dodgy racing deal. Except I drink Stella and I don't drive, yea Stella is on tap, an sponsored by their menu ads, but it's expensive!

Overall probably one of Monte's top restaurants.

Absolutely stunning restaurant! It has amazing decor, you are greeted with a smile. The restaurant is large and cozy and has a large comfortable smoking area/bar. The menu is unique which provides an array of delectable choices. We have not been disappointed by any of the food. Food such as the :
Croquettes
Oysters
Tacos
Lamb
Deboned chicken
Empanadas

All absolutely mouth watering.

The staff are super friendly and keen to help. We will definitely be going again and again.

@limatapasbar
Location: Montè Casino (near Skoobs)
Cuisine: Latin America (infusion of Portuguese, Italian, Spanish)
Service: Exceptional, manager was really professional in his approach when checking up on us
Bookings: We called 45min before arriving and there was availability on a Thursday evening, for our previous group which was 6 on a Friday evening it was recommended to book in advance. When calling, they also note if you are going for a show after dinner to ensure your meals are brought out in time.
Ambiance: beautiful rose wall paper and lit staircase as you enter, it's a contemporary setting with an option to sit on the balcony.
Menu: Tapas style, so lovely for a trying various dishes and sharing. A good variety of meat, veg and fish dishes. They also had a sushie menu. Dishes personally recommended that I tried:
Edamame beans - 5/5
Paella - 4/5
Lobster roll - 5/5
Lamb ribs - 5/5 (rating by my better half)
Causa Rellena - 4/5
Churro - 4/5 (dessert is on the drinks menu 😉)
Quality of food: everything you taste is delicious and mouthwatering leaving you wanting more and It's all cooked with perfection plated beautifully.
Price: When comparing with other Tapas type menus Limas is seen as more pricey. Our bill for 2 people for; 3 Tapas meals, 1 dessert, 1 glass of wine, 1 beer including tip was R550 (it would have been R530 but unfortunately the waiter might not have read my hand writing properly which I only noticed when I got home, I did not mind the extra tip as the service was exceptional)
I would highly recommend an outing to Limas for good quality food, great ambiance and exceptional service! Thanks for the recommendation @pravadam #limatapasbar #montecasino #dinner #tapas #latinamericancuisine #foodie #greatservice #food24_sa #greatquality #edamemebeans #paella #lambchops #churros

Great vibe in the cigar lounge! Prices vs portions are a little out of kilter; but a great selection of food and plenty of excellent tastes to try

Went to the restaurant for a catch-up with friends. The restaurant was suggested by a friend because of my love for tapas...little did I know that the sushi would hook me😬 Oh, and amazing and innovative nachos...Prawn nachos. This combines my two favorite food items beautifully, prawns and nachos😃 I'm hooked😬

The waiter was so nice, he suggested the sushi. He was very engaging and welcoming, totally recommend the restaurant😎

What a great find...the place has changed into a great tapas bar focusing on South American cuisine. We had a stunning meal-all dishes were delicious ranging from the ribs to pichana to the side salads and Espetada. The service was also impeccable and the manager on shift made a special effort to come and check everything was up to standard. Well done guys-great spot with excellent service and delicious food!

What a stunning evening at Lima last night! A friend and I ordered food to share including the fish taco, paella (we requested seafood only) and salmon California rolls. All 3 meals were delicious, barring a very slightly tough calamari in the paella. Food and service were excellent, our waitress, Thobani, was friendly and inviting. I will recommend Lima for a relaxed evening out with good food.

Wow. From the decor to the food and plating - I was not disappointed at all. Had heard great things and must say this is set to become the "trendy" spot in Monte for sure. Sushi was amazing - sushi burgers are a must try. Fresh salads, espetadas, nachos and more - Lima embraces a fantastic cushion if south American and Portuguese and Japanese flavours. Beautiful wall art, cocktails served in beautiful teapots and copper mugs and a smoking lounge that has you picturing a south American mafia meeting in it. Loved it and will certainly be returning!!

Unbelievable food and incredible vibe! Something special. Latin American food like no where else I've had before. Very wide selection of fine alcohol as well. Friendly staff willing to go the extra mile

We had a great time at this spot. Try the cocktails - they rock! I had a gin and tonic with chili and ginger - delicious (hot too!) The food is really good - we had empanadas, a bean dish and squid - SO tasty. Service is also excellent I did think it was pricey though - much more do than I've experienced other tapas bars to be. Expect to pay R250 or more for tapas only, per person, excluding drinks.

Lima Lima Lima !!! What a gem and truly one of the best dinning experiences we have had recently. We walked in on a whim and were told at first that they are fully booked, the hostest offered for us to sit at the bar and to show us around. While at the bar she found the manager who managed to find us a table !! Lucky us !!! Ive heard so many great things about Lima and I have to say they are all true. Our waitress Thuba was outstanding, her knowledge of the menu was so good we took her recommendations on everything. For starters we had the salt and pepper calamari, beef nachos and chicken wings. I just have to say that I have now found my ultimate place for nachos. The calamari was also perfect. Chicken wings were so so but I think that was because the other dishes were so amazing. For mains we had the pork belly ( again amazing) and the picanha which was fantastic. The picanha was a huge portion compared to the rest of the meals. We managed to get through one of the 3 pieces we received and set the other aside to take away as I still wanted to try dessert. For dessert I opted for the baby fererro cake after much deliberation between that and the caramel tart. The cake was moist delicious and chocolately .... everything I expected. For a great night out with delicious food, great service and an awesome vibe I would definitely recommend Lima !!!

Lima Tapas Bar offered excellent service, never had my meal arrive at my table so quick as I did at Lima, and all food tasted great, pork empenadas were tasty, chicken livers awesome and wow sushi was amazing! Would have liked to experience more of a South American ambience, perhaps Latin music to make the overall experience a unique one. Staff friendly and always made sure we as patrons were content.

Had a really good night here. We were greeted by all the waiters as we walked in. Decor was very beautiful, gave a nice dinner atmosphere. We were in a bit of a rush but the they managed accommodate for us and served 3 course meals in 1.5hrs. I ordered pork tacos, lobster roll and churros to end off my night! It was all delicious! Nice place to have a few drinks and plates of food to share. The food was good and was being moved out the kitchen quickly. The service was amazing! Waiter was always close by and attentive.

We decided to try out Lima on Friday night (21 Apr) and it was spectacular! Every single staff member was on the ball with their service and hospitality and special mention must go to our waiter, Proud, who explained everything in perfect detail when asked a question. The food was amazing, from the salad to the sushi to the ceviche and more! Some might find it a bit pricey, but it was totally worth it. Perfect evening out!

Loved the rose wall!! Loved that it was tucked away upstairs! Great decor! Food ( paella, tacos, nachos and some fig and cheese concoction) was exceptionally average! The only thing worth trying was the cheese balls .. tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich rolled up into a ball, crumbed and deep fried! Yum! Other than that won't be returning anytime soon!
Jeanique Pretorius
Excuse the poor quality in my photos but I was way too excited to try the food to spend a second longer taking a food selfie :)
Impressed from the second I walked in. Our waiter Rose was extremely friendly and had an extensive knowledge of the menu.
Wasnt long and our wine appeared (obsessed with the wine glasses) , follow by some of the best Tappas I have had to date.
Whilst enjoying the food, youd never say there is a smoking section not far away, a dim light room, stunning modern decor and vibey music playing. Perfect for after dinner drink. A must try!
Can't wait to return to try other interesting dishes Lima has to offer.

Great decor and setting, some gems on the menu but also some misses. Loved all the desserts we ordered. The jalapeño poppers were really good, cheese croquettes very tasty but the nachos were average. I had the tequila teapot (without the tequila) and it was so lovely that I can't wait to try all their varieties.

Lima tapas bar is a gem. Brilliant atmosphere and sumptuous food. Everything ordered was delicious and their cocktails and large selection of tequila are just brilliant. Such a great experience. I find myself wanting to go there for every meal. Just exactly my sort of food.

Having a after show craving for sushi led us to Lima Tapas Bar, the drinks are AMAZING! We had good service and enjoyed the evening, the sushi was a little sour as you could taste the vinegar in the rice. Other than that good end to a great day!

Limited vegetarian options. Food was excellent. Nicely prepared. Portion sizes could be bigger. Excellent ambience. Waitress was excellent. Food arrived on time. Just wish the portions were larger. Especially for vegetarians, I mean how much are Jalapeños these days? Surely for +/- R70 a portion, you should expect more than 4 Jalapeños.
Michelle S.
Yummy but very over priced and although it is tapas.. the portions are unnecessarily small. With that said I had the most amazing Japanese salmon dish that I am still dreaming about.

It's been long since i ate good food, received amazing service and listened to a good DJ on a Saturday nite Lima Tapas Bar is the best place to be I loved every minute you should give it a try you won't be disappointed.

Depending on my husband and my mood, we usually search for what cuisine we feel like and then choose a place in regards to their score and reviews. Usually this is a good method to find new restaurants, except with Lima Tapas Bar. I liked some of the food, but I feel it to be over priced street food. Great vibe, service and decor, though. We had the pork Tacos, squid, jalapeño poppers and mussels. The mussel sauce was more a white sauce with cheese. The squid was nice however didn't taste like it was described and the poppers were OK. The tacos were the best, but only provided 3 and they were small. Maybe we ate the wrong things, but it's not a place I'd rush back to anytime soon.

Lima Tapas Bar was a real dissapointment..... The place was totally overcrowded. To many tables cramped in to ensure maximum income....? Thus very noisy and conversation almost impossible.

The service and food was definitely not up to standard.

Do not see any reason to visit again......

Marie
Amazing ambiance and decor. Something completely different and bespoke. A restaurant that transports you to a Peruvian land.

First off the estimate cost for 2 people is way off. It is certainly more expensive. Our bill for a simple main and drink was closer to R550 for 2 people. Especially considering that a glass of red wine is R65.

The food is delicious. We had the pork belly and prawn nachos - which was amazing! Unique and innovative. The tacos was a bit vanilla - nothing to write home about.

The service was okay. Our waiter insisted we order an hour and a half before our show as our food would not have been ready in time.

Booking is recommended.

I was really looking forward to going to Lima last night as we had been to Peru a few years ago and I was expecting some familiar flavours reminiscent of our trip.

First impressions were favourable...nice bar area, pleasant decor and biggish tables which are important when tapas sharing.

I was a bit surprised by the sushi menu which seemed a tad off course for a tapas bar. Nonetheless...moving swiftly along to more important priorities ... we started with a round of Pisco sours which definitely brought back memories of our trip!

Then the food started arriving and my second impression was that of disappointment... all the food arrived at the same time ...so by the time I got to try some dishes, they were already cold.

The Queso Azul salad had too much dressing on so I didn't know whether there was any fig preserve, rocket and pancetta in the salad as all I tasted was the dressing. The Calamari wasn't particularly crispy and the paella had more prawn heads than prawns...The pork belly was on the dry side, the same was said for the rump and the patatas Bravas (which I loved in Spain) were pretty bland. My friends said the Cerviche was average.

The nicest dishes were the Edemame beans and Jalapeño poppers. The churros and caramel tart were pleasant but definitely nothing worth rushing back for.

I would have given the food and service (the waiters were not very attentive and we had to ask for water and other items at least 3 times) 2.5 but the decor and Pisco sours made it a 3.

All in all...an underwhelming dining experience made better by some good friends, Pisco sours and good South African wine!
Carina Van Brummelen
Decor and service is good, but food is mediocre and over-priced. Any tapa experience is enhanced by ease of sharing, which is possible with their dishes. Nonetheless, there are better options at Monte Casino for a pre-show meal.
