Interesting decor and collection of old phones. We just had drinks but the menu looks like good old home cooked food. There is putt putt in the back for kids young and old to enjoy. Very friendly service
Lots of thinks to see and great tasting food. With fast and friendly waiter I would easily come back here. It's an old SA gem. Just don't get close to the Macaw... it did not like my face. π
Surf and turf, bacon and cheese burger was great Ribs were good but the veggies we has with was a bit of a downer. Miss the old memorabilia that was always here, our waiter was really awesome, would recommend you pop in for a classic style lunch

This beautiful restaurant set inside an old railway carriage. There is a lot of fun decorations inside as well as a koi pond.
The put-put course is not in good condition anymore unfortunately.
This place has been near to my heart since I was a small boy visiting the breathtaking laevelt.
It was always the 'Go to' place during our trips there.
Unfortunately there has been a change in management due to the harshness of the covid pandemic on the tourism industry.
The management is not bad but the place is clearly understaffed and a lot of the warm decorations that were trademarks of the once iconic restaurant are now gone.
The staff are still some of the friendliest people and they are always fun to talk to.
Now, the part that is the reason you would go to this restaurant. The food.
The food is exceptionally well made and it is well worth the half hour wait. I would definitely recommend eating at this restaurant and this is the reason why I am giving old Smokey's 4 stars instead of 3.
If you have never been here, I would definitely recommend it!
If you have been there, and plan to go again then be prepared to feel like seeing an old friend who is not in such good condition.
Place is amazing. Great atmosphere. We received our food very quickly and the food was out of this world. Will recommended this place to everyone. Waiter was also very friendly.
Great food. Slightly pricy, but the portions are very big. They have a putt-putt course in the garden, but it is badly neglected. The garden could do with a once over.
Great place, very different. Outside is lovely sitting next to the stream, inside really unusual, worth a visit!

Totally different to a blog standard steak house. Lots of different antiquey things to look at, as well as a parrot and a water wheel. You can dine in an old train carriage or around a wood fire and the energetic types can play mini golf while waiting for their food. The menu is varied, service cheerful, the quality is good - our rating though is more for the environment than the food.
Lovely Restaurant. Most friendly staff. Food was Amazing!! Owners interact and leave a warm feeling.

We were at Smokey today, and it was extremely busy. As this place is not advertised as a fast food restaurant, we did not expect the food to be delivered quickly. We did wait for our food, but boy, was it worth the wait! The Oxtail potjie was out of this world. The service was so exceptional, that we would definitely recommend this place to anyone. The only bad thing was another family who was there and made such a scene about them waiting for food, even though they could see it was extremely busy. What did you expect!? The manager tried to explain to them but they were so rude and I was glad that they left. I felt for the manager.
To the manager, donβt let these people give you bad reviews, you guys did excellent and handled the situation so well!
