The kitchen was very good and the setting was wonderful. However, the service was not really what we expected. There was a fragile competition between servers. We couldn’t call another server on the instructions of one of them, even though we couldn’t place orders after 15 minutes, because the person who looked after our table was unavailable. And when we called another waiter to order, the other waiter gave us a hard time. It was quite embarrassing. And maybe the waiters shouldn’t talk about the food they bring.

The service was excellent. We didn't have to wait long for the food it arrived very quickly. The restaurant was busy and there was a nice buzz. Unfortunately the restaurant is next to the underground parking lot and the noise from cars hooting and revving spoils the atmosphere.

The last time l went to this Ocean Basket was 5 years ago so last night l decided to drive from Randburg to the Clearwater branch with my partner because l could recall how great the food was. The closest ones to us are the Monte Casino, Brightwater and Cresta ones. When we got there a waiter came and took our order (Platter for 2 nd sushi Tempura roll and Lemonade Carafe) and 10mins later we were still waiting for a glass of water. Eventually it came, and the waiter left and after 5 mins we received the sauce for the starter and the little bowl...still no sign of the Lemonade. I then asked the waiter when the Lemonade is coming, only when he told us they ran out of Lemonade and we asked if the starter bread was coming and we were told they ran out but he didnt see a need to let us know. I then change the order to the 1litre Ginger beer. He left and then another waiter came with the platter, not sure if the starter was gonna be a dessert. I sent it back and told her we were waiting for starters. I then called her back and asked her to cancel the starters because at this point l was getting irritated. The platter came back and the sauce was all over the dish spoon, clearly by the kitchen the spoon was put on the food then sauce was poured afterwards. I then called the waiter again and asked, how l was suppose to dish the food seeing there was no way to hold the spoon. He left and came back with a clean one, still on the table no basket to put the empty mussel shells....At this point a manager on duty, kept walking past us asking other people white) who came way after us if there were enjoying their food, not even a sec he looked at our direction! I wouldnt recommend this branch to anyone because lm not happy at all with the service offered! We even wrote on the slip that no tip given because of poor service. I guess we will still with the Brightwater branch after all :(

went out for lunch at this branch on Saturday which was Disastrous to say the least. We ordered the family platter to share between 3. The food came out within 5 minutes cold, the veggies were the only thing hot which was in a separate dish. We ate the fish and found chips in between even though we asked for no chips or rice. The calamari looked like it had been soaked in water for days and just crumbled when touched. Upon request of the manager, who could clearly see the calamari was disgusting to say the least tried to come up with excuses as to why chips were found on the platter, even though we asked for it to be grilled. We asked for the bill, where he took 10mins to calculate a R30 discount, when we called for him again to say this amount is bizarre as we only ate 2 and a half portions of fish and the veggies, he apologised and made us wait a further 10 minutes while he calculates an appropriate. Overall, bad service all around.

We attended ocean basket on Friday the 30th of March. I ordered the platter for one and when I got my food I noticed two of the praws still had their veins in. I then calles the manager on duty, he took the plate back and he brought me a new platter for one. I then asked for a take away without ensuring that everything is ok. Got home only to find out that there were yet another two prawns with their veins still inside of them. Is this the stsndard which ocean basket is aiming for now?

Ek en my suster het gister daar lunch gehad die kos het my helemal af gesit. Ons brood wat vir ons bedien was was gemif en het hare begin groei. Ek het n platter for 1(sushi) bestel en my crap sushi se rys was so droog dat ek dit met soya sous moes verdrink het voordat ek dit kon eet. My ginger was wit wat beteken dit het te lank buitte gestaan en te feel suurstof gekry.. my suster het fish en ships bestel en daar was skaars enige sous op dit gewees?.. Heavily disappointed. Will never go there again. Simply Asia will be my next and only restaurant at clearwater if im lus for sushi. Highly disgusted!

A terrible experience this evening at this store ! We Waited over 20 minutes just to get a menu and even longer to get drinks ! The waiter assigned to us was covering a different section entirely and so we were left constantly waiting for simple requests ! We complained and nothing changed !! We were then served food at different times meaning some of us were finished eating before others . We complained again, to no avail ! The manager was aware of the situation and didn't even come and try sort things out ! The lack of service was completely unacceptable, we spent a lot of money yet didn't enjoy our evening there at all - I do not recommend this place to any one.

Long waiting period just to get a menu, even longer to place an order. We ordered 4 meals and they arrived at different times. Our glasses were empty the whole evening. When we complained nothing was done to rectify the situation, not even an apology from a manager. The cherry on top is that we had to pay R800 for this “service”.

I can honestly say that I won't go back to ocean basket clearwater.. was greeted by a waiter that passed me off to someone else which was even less interested in helping me, just to have my order taken and then being disappointed by my Hake and 'salad', I say it like this because if I wanted a whole cucumber, I'd have gone to Pick 'n Pay.. the salad consisted of literally 1/2 a piece of feta, half a tomato, 2 olives and about 20 full cucumbers chopped. As a customer working in Clearwater, I won't recommend this 'joint' to anyone..

Poor service... Speechless! No dedicated waiter whatsoever. Waited about an hour for sushi, which looked appalling when it finally arrived, only to be eating rice and just more rice. Bill was totally wrong at the end, and had to help another waiter who was just thrown into the mess. Was once a place we loved!

This is not a reflection on the food that was served. I want to make it clear that the food was delicious. I must, however, reprimand the service we received. We left ocean basket last night very disappointed and felt our overall experience was unsatisfactory. After asking waiters and the seating hostess several times for the menu, we finally received it after 20min. After placing our food order, we waited another hour before we saw any sign of food, and then only one dish arrived. During this time, other tables around us were seated after us, and served their food long before us. We were totally forgotten. We complained to the manager, who had no interest in rectifying the problem, as well as our waiter and the seating hostess. one of our party (we were 4 people) had finished eating his food before any of us could start our meals. It was a completely disappointing experience, especially when you consider that ocean basket is quite pricey, and we wanted to go out and treat ourselves. I hope in future tables at this establishment won't be "forgotten".

Had dinner there last night as it was convenient at the time. Tempura rock shrimp sushi looked excellent in the pic on the menu. When it eventually arrived, the tempura battered shrimp was iced cold, like it was lying in the fridge for a while. The wife and I decided to get share the platter for 2. This was also dissapointing. Fish was overcooked and dry. Muscles were cold as well. Overall the dish was lacking flavour. Final shocker was the arrival of the starter breads after the main was delivered. The service was below average, given they were busy. What a waste of R500.00. Wont be going there again.

I have always went to Ocean Basket Clearwater for my lunches and dinners with friends since 2007 and never had a bad experience,instead great platters that taste divine and lovely Sangria to down our meal. After 5 years not dining there,I had supper with my mom and kids yesterday, believe me it wasn't disappointing - great service and good food. I'm certainly coming back......Keep up being the Sole Provider!!!!

This used to be the best Ocean Basket but service has deteriorated drastically. You waot around ages to give your order and then adios to your waiter. Good luck getting the bill. Standard has deteriorated . This Ocean Basket branch used to be my favorite. Now its just pathetic. Absolutely horrible service. Waiter uninterested and took down the wrong order. Manager couldn't care less. Food took forever to come. We were also robbed of our food accompaniments. Food made me feel nauseous. Probably the worst restaurant experience I've ever had! Highly disappointing. Never going back again.

This used to be a great place... Our favourite Ocean Basket of all. That was when the Chinese guy owned it. I don't know what they've done, but my guess it's a management issue. So disappointing and frustrating. The service has gone down, the whole atmosphere had changed. Food is still OK on the whole but we just don't enjoy going there anymore. There's no engagement from management... Just a superficial, "Is all OK?" if you're lucky. Staff doesn't seem happy as they used to be. One evening we got a bill that was from earlier in the day: The waiter 'forgot' to add something on the original bill so then he arrived with this other one from 2:00pm that day that we had to pay separately from the original bill since he'd forgotten the item?? I hope the owners read these reviews and realise something's wrong.

I went here for lunch, the platter for two was very over cooked. I mean literally everything especially the calamari it felt like rubber. Extremely disappointed, at least the service was good.

I've experienced better service at a fish and chips place. This ocean basket is probably the worst in Gauteng province. Service sucks, food looks appalling. I honestly think the best thing you could possibly do for this restaurant is shut it down. If I could give a lower rating than 1.0, I'd be more than happy to. But unfortunately you lucked out

We travelled quite far to come here as we'd had a good experience several years ago. We both ordered the prawn and mussel combo. When the food came it looked revolting. Ocean Basket usually does a lovely butter sauce but both our meals were swimming in what looked like just melted butter and the prawns and mussels were just tasteless and the butternut and spinach just slipped on the plate. No flavour whatsoever, no presentation and poor management. We complained to the manager who didn't really know what to say. Won't be coming back here again.

The worst Ocean Basket I have been to in my life. The food is not up to standard and the service sucks. They have nothing you ask for because they just ran out and don't have stock . The calamari tubes aee flat and have a soggy texture.

1 - The aesthetics and place itself. Ocean Basket gives you the feeling of a small oceanside seafood restaurant. It is nice but I feel as though it is dated and could do with a makeover. <br/><br/>2 - The staff. We were greeted with friendly staff but I feel as though the service could be a bit speedier.<br/><br/>3 - The menu selection. There is a good selection of seafood and drinks to choose from.<br/><br/>4 - The meal itself. I had my usual selection of 24 prince prawns. Not as flavourful as usual and could do with a bit of extra lemon butter sauce.

Haven't been to this Ocean Basket in years, but stopped here for some calamari and sushi. I had the grilled calamari with rice and also some salmon roses. The food was good, but I thought the 3 pieces of salmon roses weren't worth R64. We also ordered their mojito carafe and it was AMAZING! It was really refreshing and not too sweet. Our waiter was also very sweet and came to check on us all the time.

wow very disappointed at ocean basket clear water,the only ocean baskets who has porra prawns.<br/>when we arrived the manager arranged a table which was sadly the only good experience.<br/>We ordered king and queen porra prawns and some drinks . we waited about 45min i called the manager and waited for feedback,15min after that we received our food to our amazement and utterly disappointment the prawns was raw which was unthinkable and i called the manager once again as the waiter was none existent.<br/>he then came by and took only the prawns on my wife's plate and said he would bring some prawns.<br/>Then my wife went to the toilet after getting a bad taste in her mouth from the raw prawns. <br/>just to see the toilets in a bad state and could not even use the facilities.<br/>my family has come to the restaurants from the time it opened and has vowed never to go back there again as the customer is the last person they thort about and i still had to pay for bad service and raw prawns.<br/><br/>bad management and poor quality this place is going down.<br/>

It was the first time in a long time that we went to ocean basket at Clearwater. Our memories of the place were great but I am disappointed to say that it has gone from excellent to pathetic and poor. Besides the fact that service was slow our food arrived at our table ice cold. The calamari, rubbery,the rice unflavoured and boring. After the food was sent back it came back slightly warmer than before...but still not great. I won't visit this branch again any time soon.

I feel like the bearer of bad news today as I have no good word to say about my last 2 visits to restaurants.<br/><br/>Had the fried calamari with rice.  As expected the calamari was overcooked, this was not the problem as I was expecting it.  Unfortunately there is not a lot of choice of restaurants in this mall so you kind of have to take what you can get.<br/><br/>What I did not expect was when I mixed the calamari with the rice I realised that they had not drained the calamari before it was sent to me, every time I took a bite my mouth was filled with oil that came out of the calamari pieces.  Even my son was put off by this and pulled his face every time he took a bite of a calamari.  One calamari piece even 'popped' and oil splattered all over the table and my glass of water.  <br/><br/>The salad I took was quite nice and the veggies were fresh. The service was okay.

Came here Christmas eve for an impromptu supper. The place was packed we had to queue outside and wait for seating. The restaurant manager was very accommodating and assured us we'd get seated quickly. We waited for a while then got a nice table. Out waiter was friendly and attentive. We waaaited for our food. Wiped out the bread and sushi like hungry children after a hectic afternoon of playing.<br/><br/>When the food did arrive it was edible. I wasn't impressed with their garlic butter sauce. The rest was good though, cooked accordingly. It was a worthwhile supper out.

So they don't have the sunshine platter for R64 anymore which consisted of 4pc prawn cali roll and 4pc salmon fashion sandwich. So I decided I'd still buy the same thing and ended up paying R60 hmm so the platter was more expensive why? Anyway I think I know why it was cheaper, they are very stingy on the avo and salmon inside the fashion sandwich wow. I literally jus had rice, seaweed and soy sauce. The service was great though.

Food good for the price that you pay. It is not out of this world. The food use to come so much quicker than it does now and no more sauce like they use to give. Having said that - it is not fine dining so you get what you pay for, the taste is not something you cannot do yourself. But still if you are on a budget and not too fussy this is a place to try.

I would actually score this place negatively based on the attitude of management. My meal was drenched in oil, I could have sucked it up with a straw, if I were looking for a heart attack that is. Furthermore the chips were uncooked. The manager said this is to be expected from Ocean Basket and was initially only willing to replace the chips, he then stared blankly at us, in a very concerning manner. Due to his rotten attitude and approach, I leave here looking for another restaurant. Would highly NOT recommend this place!

I'm a frequent visitor to this branch and I love it because of the amazing house-specials that they have (the porra prawns in particular). <br/>Tonight, however, I was a little disappointed with the prawn special. Usually it comes with a generous serving of slightly larger queen prawns on a platter but this time it came in the standard pan with what looked like a few prematurely poached prince prawns. I could've gotten the standard 12 prince prawns for half the price if this was what they had changed the special to. <br/>I was expecting uphill about this when I complained and I thought I'd just end up never going back there again but surprisingly the manager, Andrea, came to me and advised that the kitchen would prepare another plate for me, no hassle! I told him I was also concerned that the size of the prawns were different and he explained that they're using a different type of prawn but the size should not vary greatly. He actually went to kitchen after that to check if the prawns were smaller than usual. They were, so he was kind enough to add a few more to the dish. <br/>I was very impressed with the customer service from the waiters and the manager. It's not often that restaurants make an effort these days so it's always good to find a place that does!

Sushi was good, seafood platter for two was tasteless. Didn't even finish the food it was so bad. Fish and squid heads tasted burned. Girlfriend actually had to put a mussel back in the plate because it was so bad. If it wasn't for the sauce they cover everything in the food will taste like nothing. Have had better quality seafood at take away places. Service was bad, constantly waiting for the waiter and it was not even busy. Tables outside way to close together felt like we were in everybody else's conversation. Will certainly not be back.

The Porra Prawns are absolutely divine. <br/>The service is friendly and fast. The lemon pepper Kingklip was too thinly sliced and very dry and thought after bieng grilled. . Overall, a good dining experience.<br/>Will definitely go back for Porra Prawns.

They used to have an amazing Mozambican prawns dish here. It used to be a creamy and spicy dish that served two at R99. After a while, they changed the menu because customers demanded that it be less spicy. The change in recipe changed the unique flavour.<br/><br/>We used to love the place, the service is excellent and the one manager used to be at the Sandton branch. If it wasn't for the change in the recipe, we would still be frequent visitors. <br/><br/>On a whole, the rest of the food is better than most branches.
