Review Ramkiki - Roodepoort

Went for a quick tour yesterday. This is a good place indeed. Brings some modernized vintage vibes. The mood is relaxing. The atmosphere is perfect for a day or two out. I'm definitely coming back for a stay. Update 6 months later: Tea and coffee are served for free. No welcoming drink as promised (or maybe it's the coffee or tea). The pool was only getting cleaned when we arrived. Food is just fine not satisfactory. Morning breakfast is buffet, which was promised till 11 but that did not happen 🙌🏽. On the other hand. It was truly fun to spend my night with friends here. Had so much fun and created some memories :-D

Beautiful setting and the food was great. Good pricing as well. Eventhough there was a team building event with lots of people, it did not deter the tranquility and atmosphere as you did not hear them. Will definitely go back again

A very beautiful hidden gem in rooderpoort. Beautiful set up, from pool bar, main bar and main restaurant. The food was to die for, the service from our waiter Ian was out of this world. I would highly recommend 👌 it. I would definitely come back. Oh again the pool bar is perfect for small parties, or just bring kids for a swim🏊‍♂️ . Beautiful place for a picnic also

My favorite place to take the boys. Great venue which I think is underutilized.

The service received from day 1 of booking till the day of the event was excellent, the stuff was extremely patient and kind. Thandi at the reception who helped with the booking and Antoinette the waitress that was serving our table were exceptional. Thank you for the Ramkiki for hosting us.

We went for a Saturday market , it was a lovely day out . It was packed we struggled a bit with the parking space as we arrived late but we got some nice goodies from the market. We got candles, nuts, Durban curry and samoosas, crochet clothing , whiskey and many more goodies . If you're looking for a market on a Saturday morning Ramkiki is a place to be

The food was okay, not the greatest. Staff was friendly. The atmosphere is not so bad expect for the children in the play area they can be disruptive.

If I could rate them more I would!!! Held my sons 3rd birthday party there yesterday, all the staff were so helpful, friendly and accommodating of all requests. The waiters and Siphiwe were on the ball and very attentive to our guests! The platters were lovely and so reasonably priced, the kids loved the play area and the venue is in such a beautiful setting. I highly recommend this venue for any events and will be holding more parties here!

What a great place !!! Best pizza 🍕 , best vibes 😎 10/10!!!!! They make you feel welcome and a truly a place to go and have a lovely meal with your family with great services. 🍷 It's a beautiful environment with much to see!!

A disappointment because the venue is very pretty. Service was good but the buffet meal was extremely disappointing. The pork was dry and too thickly sliced. The chicken was so dry that one could hardly get it off the bone. Vegies were so so but roast potatoes were good. Salads and deserts were not inspiring. The entertainment (a vocalist) was good.

This is truly a great place to relax and have a good time with some friends and family. The service is excellent and they have an amazing menu to choose from! 🍕🥗🥂

My family and i were so disapointed on mothersday.... Besides that i phoned and asked if its a normal menu for breakfast which i was told yes and when we got there we only had two options to choose from which was ridiculous for the price. They playground is pathetic !!! So dirty i actually couldn't believe it. Most of the equipment was broken and a safety hazzard to the kids !! I found my 16 month old playing with screws and bolts that was falling off from structure. You can clearly see that its not being maintained... its super gross just to walk by the play area and then you expect kids to actually play there ??? The poor waiter took forever with everything because he had to walk all the way to the restuarant which is so far away from the kids area .... I will never go there again ( which is sad because we got engaged there and wanted to have the wedding there as well) but i will never set my feet there again and i will also never refer anyone there because it was utterly pathetic !!

Worst experience was at this place. Note:Do not expect to have your table ready just because you booked 11 days earlier and confirmed with them on email. No apology or explanation was offered but was kids and us were sent to the open pool area to sit in the winter sun next to the guy who had a brain stand preparing ribs there by the uncovered pool, with the lovely view of the bar. Service was horribly slow... eventually decided to leave when there was no cutlery for the food

Really lame service, waited 15 mins for menus, brought the wrong drink, food arrived barley warm, engen though I insisted on it, still waiting for the astray, it's been half an hour, had to ask for salt and pepper, and then the top came off on our food, surely someone check this before serving, the kids play area is amazing, the venue looks great, but if this is the staff that's dealing with the customer service, they need some form of resturant training, before I will ever return,

Hi light of the evening was getting in my car & leaving.
Ordered our drinks, which the waitress managed to spill when she was bringing them to us, as well as getting them wrong.
Music / Ambience- if you enjoy your musical experience being interrupted by audio lessons on French, then this is the place for you.
No manager around, no one to ask if everything is ok.
I’d much rather have a form of VD before going back to this place

Please avoid! Management should be shot and staff should be let go!

We went there because of the market and wanted to have lunch. Service was shocking because management is non existent. Poor waiters were trying their best but unfortunaty they cannot prevent the ship from sinking....
We booked for Christmas lunch and i dont like goung anywhere on public holidays because most is a rush and slap dash. We had late cancellations and then had to phone Ramkiki for late additions. Well the SERVICE started here.
Jodi and her team made everything such an wonderful experience. No issues since the time we arrived everything was perfect. The food you couldnt have any issue with. It was the best Christmas lunch we had at any venue.
Thank you Ramkiki but thank you Jodi and your Team for exemplary service and going way beyond anything we expected. Well defnitely be back

Horrible. An hour for drinks. Cold soup. Prawn cocktail was five shrimp, lettuce and thousand island dressing. Service is non existent, literally had to clear my own starter plates. Great bread and a lovely view, but wouldn't go for those.

Booked for Sunday lunch. Was a bit worried after reading some reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. Wife had the carvery and three of us ordered of the menu. Food was good, service was friendly and venue was relaxing. Good Sunday outing!

Terrible, just terrible. What a disaster of a Christmas lunch, I am crying from being so disappointed. To start with I booked over a month ago and was ensured we could have a outside smoking table. This was confirmed to me by phone AND email. When I told Eddie at reception about being unhappy in being seated in the chapel when TWO outside areas are available he didn't do anything. Our pathetic makeshift area had speakers but while the other areas had festive music we were stuck in dead silence. Drinks took forever as there was only 3 waiters for everyone and they had to walk to the restaurant to fetch them. It ended up taking 20mins for some champagne. Starters were bland but the mains were nice. The dessert was served with curdled cream and no ice cream. My fiance had to wait ages to get some malva pudding which they just didn't put out. I am so upset!

Beautiful venue and surroundings. The staff were friendly, but didn't understand us too well. It took quite some explaining to get a drinks menu/wine list.

Unfortunately the Pizza was a total disaster. We both ordered different pizzas and both had been cooked with mozzarella that was off. The funky smell of the pizza overwhelmed every other taste and we weren't able to eat most of it.

So sad, such potential to be a great venue. The service and a food need attention.

This was the worse lunch experience ever. We had our company year-end lunch booked at the restaurant. When we arrived nobody knew where we were booked. In number order our experience:

1. We were seated outside - when it started to rain heavily Ramkiki staff did not want to move us inside because in their words the storm will not last long. It was still raining when we left nearly 4 hours later.
2. We were eventually moved into the function venue - all on our own to a table without a tablecloth. No music, no ambiance...nada!!
3. We waited forever for the waiter to take our orders and ever longer for the starters to arrive.
4. We waited nearly an hour for our main course to arrive. When we eventually received our food the Sole was Hake and so dry it was inedible. The Medium Fillet steak was ice cold and the pepper sauce was disgusting. Tasted like peppercorns mixed with milk. Then when we complained they heated the medium steak in a microwave for 3 minutes ensuring it was ruined forever.
5. The waiter was not able to open a bottle of red wine properly and then proceeded the spill red wine all over the tablecloth (that we received 10 minutes after we were move inside) whilst pouring wine into our glasses.
6. For dessert most staff ordered the apple crumble. Another failure on the restaurants side. It was dry and not a crumble in sight. Layers of very tough filo (I think??).
7. Then we had to pay and had to run in the pouring rain to our cars - not umbrellas was even offered to get us to the cars which is quite a way from the entrance. We arrived at or cars soaking wet.
Our conclusion... We will never visit again.
The staff of the CTFA.

Booked to go see a band play there. The venue is serene and pretty. The staff...... my word..... even when I tried to ask if the specific table we sat at was reserved, he could not answer. I'm not sure he understood what we were talking about. We were told they were temporary staff..... very bad service I'm affraid. The bill was wrong 5 times. A pity because the place is very nice and had huge potential.

I took my husband to Ramkietjie for a surprise dinner. We were the only guests and were placed in the chilly walkway between the bar and the toilets. There was no music, and the carpet was filthy and full of cigarette burns. The table setting ws plain and there was no mood setting soft lighting or table decorations. The food was brought from the kitchen of their other restaurant, and was barely warm when it arrived. My medium rare rump steak was so tough I could barely chew it. My husband's ribs were burnt. From about 8.30 pm the staff started leaving; at 8.45 one staff member flicked the lights on and off, basically telling us to leave. For a restaurant set in such beautiful surroundings, the complete lack of ambience was a huge let down. I feel that I wasted the almost R400 that I spent on the meal. We will most definitely not return to the restaurant.

Entrance looks somewhat dilapidated. We weren't even sure it was open. A similar feeling once inside. Gardens relatively well kept. Looks like it was once a classy venue but has fallen on somewhat hard times.
Waiters were friendly and helpful. We went to the restaurant for a lunch on a Saturday. Menu www reasonably priced. Ordered soup off the menu and was the told there wasn't any. Then ordered beef sandwich, told they were out of beef. Bathrooms were average. Whole venue feels a bit dark and gloomy. Tables not set and not welcoming. Tasty chips but the food is very average.
Thought that Sunday lunch was R100 found out on my bill R125 pp for buffet . False advertising outside the door when paid it was taken down before I could comment SHOCKING!!!

It was Sunday at lunchtime, and I came here with a girlfriend. It has sprawling lawns and feels like a place somewhere in magalies, when u're actually right here in the suburbs. The river that flows through it also makes for nice ambience. I think its a good place to go if there's a group of you (they have mostly benches in the outside area). There is an inside dining area but in summer, at midday, why not enjoy the outside bit!? Waiters were friendly and always around, friendly and professional. There was live music, which I quite enjoyed. The 2 girl band sang known cover songs and were good actually, not too pitchy or loud, just right. They play every Sunday. I'm always wary of buffet's but hands down this was the best buffet I have ever had. The food was plenty, hot and flavorsome. Nothing pretentious, just good ol' home food - well made. I even had seconds! I had a margharita and once again, well made, had to have another one. We spent 4 hrs there and it's one of the best ways to spend your Sunday avvie. The buffet cost a mere R100 ( drinks are separate of course bit still priced around R40 for a good cocktail). I'l definitely be.coming back here...with more friends.

My husband advised to go and spend a romantic afternoon there as he remembered the place from many years ago when they were having a corporate New Year party @ ramkitije. We were seated immediately and served drinks and light snacks, though warned that due to the wedding taking place that Sunday the food would take longer to cook as the staff were obliged to serve the guests first. In my opinion honesty only adds good points. I am a rib lover so it came as no surprise that me and my husband ordered famous Ramkitije ribs, me with Greek salad, him with baked potato wedges. Food was delicious and definitely worth of waiting. We were having alcohol with our meal and decided to kill it with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake before getting into the car. Cannot say a single bad word about quality of food or service but that cup should have rather been called a bucket, so big and filling. Same goes for the cake, real chocolate monster drowning in whipped cream, though exceptionally tasty. The overall atmosphere very pleasant, relaxing and romantic. No loud music or overdosed on alcohol crowd, even in the bar area. Two little minuses were strong wind which continued to blow off napkins and serviettes and annoying mozzies buzzing around us just after the sun went down. Except for these really insignificant factors we left absolutely satisfied. In fact we are already married but planning to celebrate our 5th anniversary in a kind of a proper wedding ceremony and more than sure about the choice of our venue.
