Try their "Crispy Salmon Skin" sushi...so good! So happy that a friend introduced me to this little gem...authentic Asian atmosphere and impeccable sushi! Good service and friendly staff.

Stunning sushi. Very generous portions. I had the Red Platter for R165. I took half of it as take away. Well worth it. It's only my way home.

I was invited along with an Asian friend who has high expectations. We both were extremely happy with our meals and sushi.

The restaurant is small, and has an Asian feel which compliments the meal. Service was good, and food that we waited for came out steaming hot.

I can see this spot quickly becoming my local sushi hangout.

Always a crowd pleaser. Fresh, fast and great quality, this has to be one of my very favourite takeaway sushi spots in jozi. You can also eat in, either at the tables or the belt, service is quick and helpful.

Sushi is one of my favourite healthy snacks during the week. So when a friend recommended Kamiya, I popped in here for a long overdue catch-up with the girls and to sample theirs.

I noticed right away, their conveyor belt sushi and then that their menu's are presented in a format that almost makes them look like a children's story-book.

As we sat down, we ordered a glass of white wine but it tasted stale (and came from a box). We all decided instead, to just order (and next time to bring) a reasonably priced bottle of wine to share which I would highly recommend if you are craving a glass of wine at this establishment as their wine selection is not amazing.  You are, however, allowed to take home whatever you don't drink.

Onto the food.. I found their prices to be reasonable enough, but their portions very small, in particular both the tuna and salmon Sashimi.  The salmon roses however were fantastic and I would highly recommend them!

Service: Not the friendliest service that one could experience, but if you are at Kamiya I doubt that you will mind.

*Recommendation: Arrive hungry and order their R140 daily 'all-you-can-eat' special to really get your money's worth at Kamiya Sushi.

We were pleasantly surprised at this unassuming establishment. The food was superb and very reasonably priced. The udon soup was the highlight of a fantastic meal and the service was super efficient and friendly. Will definitely be back.

Had supper there a number of times and enjoyed the sushi and a couple of the side dishes! Just wonder why the sushi chefs never look at you, never smile, never greet you, nothing....  Sorta spoils the experience - hey, say hello guys!!

Only the second time I have been here for a quick plate of my fav salmon sashimi..not too wild about the stony faced chef but the sushi is fresh and the wine palatable. I would recommend the spot if only for the entertaining chinese sitcoms aired daily..

I had planned to meet my friends at Rocomamas for dinner last night but to our horror, the waitlist was 45mins long.

So we went to Kamiya instead.

It was a very popular sushi joint judging from the relatively full occupancy when we arrived.  We didn't get a seat around the conveyor belt, so we had to settle for a table instead.  I felt that the general sushi fare was of quite good quality and the sushi buffet option that we went for was definitely value for money as sashimi (albeit one portion) is allowed per buffet diner.   No other sushi buffet places that I have been to has this.

However, what really let the dining experience down were the side dishes.  We ordered a plate of fried noodles, beef yakitori and fried dumplings.

The fried noodles was EXTREMELY salty and we could barely eat a mouthful before we had to flag down the waitress to let her know.  We told her politely about the saltiness of the noodles and requested another plate from the kitchen but hopefully done with reasonable seasoning.  10mins later, the 2nd plate of noodles arrived and although it was much less saltier than the 1st, it was still rather salty but palatable.

For the beef yakitori sticks that arrived, the meat was tender and succulent but yet again rather a tad too salty!  What is the problem with the chef and salt!?  Rather heavy-handed approach to seasoning his food, I would say.

The fried dumplings was rather not up to scratch too.  My friends run an amazing little store called "Bun Box" at the Fourways Farmers Market selling amazing steamed Chinese buns and dim sum and so we all knew what proper dumplings should taste like.  The ones at Kamiya was strange in the sense that the skin was still rather doughy after being fried.  Biting into the innards, the filling was also rather uninspiring.  The fillings were bland and tasted oily.

Hence, in conclusion, I would say, Kamiya Sushi delivers on what the signboard says, i.e. Sushi, but be forewarned about their side dishes.
