For most of my life I have lived by the ocean so I love a good plate of Fish and Chips. While this isn’t Kalkys or fish on the Rocks I have to say I rate them
highly the batter was crispy and light, fish tasted like the ocean not a freezer and the chips not reheated like some of the chain fish stores. A decent sized parcel for 48 rand.Def will be back
The russians, chips and mushy peas are amazing. Best slap chips in town. Ask for salt and vinegar, you will not be disappointed. Small little shop that produces constant good take aways.
If you are looking for the best "almost English" fish and chips this side of town then really this is it. When your fussy father in law (he is from England) says that this is good then you know it's good.
The portions are more than enough. The fish is absolutely divine. The chips are not and I repeat NOT this skinny excuses that people call chips. You can actually see the bags of potatoes in the shop so you know they freshly made from scratch.
You can try mushy peas or steak pudding even. Calamari and Russians are also on the menu.
Try it...you won't be disappointed
Just picked up some take aways there after reading some recommendations and man were they right BESTEST best fish and chips wrapped up no silly boxes and the fish ...ahh the fish. For sure a regular on my go to stops from now on

The fish and chips are absolutely divine, and mimic what in my mind are "traditional fish and chips". They are cooked absolutely perfectly!

This is the closest I've ever come to finding traditional English fish & chips here in Joburg.
It doesn't look like much from the outside but the fish&chips are consistently fresh and tasty, (especially if you ask for extra lashings of vinegar ).
If you're looking for a takeaway during a weeknight I recommend you phone and order ahead of time as this hidden lil chippy is popular and for good reason 👌🏼
Becoming a Friday night routine for us, this fish and chips shop ceases to amaze! Un - suspecting, quaint little fish and chips shop, owner is as humble and friendly as they come. This little takeaway spot is in a dingy little centre that you wouldn't think to stop at, BUT you most definitely should. It is by far the best fish and chips you can find in JHB,out ranking most popular fish and chip shops and restaurants. The fish is as fresh as you can get, so so tasty and very reasonably priced. Make sure to order ahead or very early over the weekend, as it's very popular with the local residents. Can't wait to return to try out the rest of the menu.

A gym friend told me this shop have best 'slap chips'. I craved a fish cake, since Fishaways stopped making theirs. A few weeks ago I stopped in at Fish Hook, but they didn't have any fish cakes in supply.
Just before 5 pm today we stopped there - they had Fish Cakes!!! I ordered 2 of these big cakes (R33 each) and they tasted heavenly! Could see and taste the parsley in it - tastes homemade, since they obviously are!!!!
Oooo, what about chips, I said to hubby. Yes, lets. Small chips for R40 please. MY EYES POPPED! A huge portion of chips - absolutely fabulous, drizzled with (we're sure it's brown not white vinegar) and salt.
Stuck in peak traffic on our way home, no problem - I fed hubby chips and fish cake, while I nibbled as well. It was fantastic!
Can't wait to try their fish!!!!!

Exceptional service! Friendly staff/owners! Got my fish and chips under 10 minutes and it was delicious and huge portions (We ordered medium fish and medium chips with a tartar sauce for R145 - massive bargain).
Update: so we didn't finish our food because of being so full, but guys, if you have an airfryer and you reheat/airfry your leftovers... Amazing! Tastes just as fresh and crispy as the day you bought the meal! I'm very impressed because lots of fishy foods never taste as good the next day, and my leftovers tasted amazing! Very impressed! 👏👏
I googled "Best Fish & Chips Randburg" and Fish Hook Traditional Fish & Chips came up.
I phoned in my order and collected it 15min later.
The last time I had such good fish & chips was when I was a kid some 50-odd years ago! The large portion of hake was fresh and really large (not medium wannabe large as is often the case these days), the crispy batter was not at all soggy - even after driving back home for 15 minutes after picking up my order. The chips were just right and didn't taste of old used oil.
I will most certainly go back to try their calamari too!

Little place, nothing fancy . Cleanliness maybe can be improved. Then again , it's a takeaway and that's all . Goodin the other hand , traditional fish and chips which I found difficult to source somewhere else. Tasty and wrapped in paper . They happy to oblige with any reasonable request . The calamari not bad , but I'll pass next time . The Russians are of a debatable quality and insanely salty . I'll stick with the fish and chips . Overall , a nice little place with tasty food .
Best fish and chips in Randburg. Only challenge is long waiting time during peak hours especially Friday evening, but worth the wait.
Fantastic Fish and chips. Excellent when there is load shedding at home and need to collect some dinner on the way home. It is just so good that you cant stop eating the chips and the fish is always fresh. The Calamari is also good and I like to have mine cook just a little longer for crisp and crunchy bite.
Great place for a delicious take away fish and chips. Be prepared to wait +/- 45 mins as the owner does a lot of the work himself, but once it comes you will be pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best fish and chips I’ve tasted and very reasonably priced. Love it. JGT
A hidden gem nestled away in Darrenwood, serving fresh fish and chips, done old skool style. Batter light and golden, enveloping the delicate fish, resting on a very generous bed of 'slap' chips. Hake succulent and chips flavourful. Definitely phone ahead to place your order. Although there is a small outside table for seating, rather enjoy your order at home. The fish is off the hook!
