Review Safari Garden Centre - Pretoria

Derek Moore (Weblearning)
Pretoria on Sunday. Up early to watch my godson play ice hockey at the Grove Mall. We agreed to celebrate the team win with a hearty breakfast at Safari Garden Centre. The place caught my eye when I drove past it, on the way to the ice rink. When I entered it, I was quite charmed. Lovely gardens, amazing water features, plants, animals (don’t feed the parrot). And of course gardening goodies. Food at the restaurant was also good. Had a delicious slap up break fast. Not a gourmet meal. But more than enough to satisfy a hungry ice hockey player. The slightly sleep deprived god parent, who had to wake up very early, to see the match, would have appreciated a stronger coffee. All round a great place to visit.

Visited on a cold day, well designed garden center with every plant and shrub, succulents you can imagine. An indoor shaded plant atrium. Beautiful little chapel for those who wanna tie the knot ! Pricey deli with freshly baked breads 🍞 wheel chair friendly pathways with spectacular greenery.

What sets this place apart from other Nursery's is that each plant-type has it's own habitat that's been built for them to thrive in. They're not sitting on some boring shelf or isle. This gorgeous spot has a chapel (perfect for weddings) and a fantastic Restaurant with a kids area and a pet farm or the kids!! The building gives me heavy Jurassic Park vibes and I love their little store filled with garden decor, furniture, and compost/soil of ALL kinds! Don't forget to bring a hat and some sunblock if you want to walk around to see the plants! VERY WORTH IT!

What a pleasure! I had my birthday lunch at Safari for 26 guests, and from the booking right through to the day, the staff were exceptionally helpful. They even accommodated my husband who couldn't sit due to a back operation with a comfortable chair to lie down. A stunning setting with delicious food at competitive prices - we will be back!

First visit to Safari garden center, I was very impressed with how beautiful and clean it was. Even the animal's cages were clean and well looked after. If you love nature, this is the place to come and relax. The restaurants food was a 10/10 for us, compliments to the chefs.

A lovely environment for gardening lovers and their entire family! Lot's to see and a great place to spend quality time together.

This place is simply breathtaking. The waterfalls are very pretty and the variety of plants are exceptional. Every time that I've been here there was something new to look at and The chapel area is so beautiful! I would not recommend the restaurant though, I had a pita bread which was nice but the service wasn't. The staff is slow and they forget about you.

An incredible nursery. Such a beautiful setting. The restaurant is lovely with views over the gardens and water features. Also a great selection of plants in the nursery. Can't wait to return. The resident parrot, Anna is also a friendly welcome. Can highly recommend.

Lovely experience Good food and friendly service Perhaps just cleaning the table before the next customer. Kept our sunglasses we forgot at the table and received it back a week later. That's awesome. Thank you Joseph and Stefan

South Africa has the coolest nursery and garden places I’ve ever seen. This one is no exception. We’ve never tried the restaurant but it is a family outing even with teenagers. I shop, they walk the dog around and check out the lovey gardens and exotic animals. The place gets packed on the weekends. Cool shady areas to enjoy the gardens while I pick up new plants:) prices seem reasonable

Great variety of plants & gardening items. A little expensive, but worth the experience. Restaurant is good in a relaxing environment. Good to sit & catch your breath before the new week starts again.

Phoned ahead and spoke to Frederick. His help was great. He held seeds for us that we asked about and when we arrived, whilst there was a flower show of sorts on, promptly helped us and got us sorted. Lovely place to go to for personal service in spite of its size.

Very big nursery with a wide variety of plants, pots, water features, garden accessories and bonsai tree's. I jave not been to restaurant and the petting zoo/kids play area so I cannot comment on that! They also have facilities for small parties and weddings, with a chapel and a hall. Good place for all round family fun and for all gardening needs! As far as I could tell it is fairly wheelchair friendly.

Very relaxing atmosphere. Great place for kids to go and play. Farm animals to see as well as beautiful walk ways over a Waterfall. Staff are very friendly and premises are well maintained and clean.

One of the best garden centres in Pretoria. They have a huge variety of plants from seedlings to huge trees. The scenery is awesome and they have plenty of benches to rest on as you browse. Good toilet facilities. They also have a restaurant and catering facilities and you can definitely go and treat yourself to a nice meal overlooking the man made waterfalls and damns filled to the brim with kois and bird life. A must visit even if you dont plan on buying any plants.

Beautiful place to visit. The scenery is amazing and the staff is very friendly. We waited a long time for our food though but the staff was very helpful and friendly. A place worth visiting

Watching waiters picking their noses while we are preparing to order food. Beautiful setting and view but service is not up to scratch nor prices for what I’ve seen today

The food and service do not match the prices on menu or the beautiful setting. Overpriced small portions. The veggie burger contained pieces of potato and whole chickpeas, it fell apart and lacked seasoning. Bagel with ham was very small portion for the price charged. Nachos are much better at Spur.

Very beautiful setting ideal for kids and family gatherings. The food is great and not that expensive if you compare it to places like Mugg and Bean and Cappuccinos. Definitely worth the visit!

I never write reviews but it would be irresponsible not to warn others about the incredibly AWFUL food here, which is only matched by the HORRIBLE service. No need to go any further, my advice STAY AWAY!!!

****I would have given a ZERO but not possible.

Had the Grilled steak, with salad.

Was a dried out piece of meat, with a little bit of basting sauce.

For the price, i really expected much more.
And worse part is, i ordered it Medium.

The uploaded pictures of the menu are out of date. Prices are about double that now. Beautiful place, but the service and food were unacceptable. The overpriced food that eventually arrived at our table was cold and the portion sizes were poor. The cappucino's milk was sour. When the bill came, they charged for the tap water that we ordered.
Horrible experience.
Great atmosphere with all the waterfalls, plants and birds around. Service was good, food was deliciously prepared (just small portions though), well presented. No desert on menu.

Hands down the worst restaurant meal. Chicken breast tasted awful with plastic sauce, baked and probably reheated, sweet potatoes completely stone cold, spinach tasted like bleach. This is our third disappointment with meals at Safari restaurant. Spoiled our celebration. Such a pity as setting is beautiful

Came here as a trip down memory lane. Our kids loved it here when they were small. But it turned out to be similar to the memory of and ingrown toenail. The worst food and service I have experienced this year. Expensive and pathetic. I believe we got the same batch of burger patties we did eight years ago. Horrible. Soggy onion rings. A sub that's a hotdog roll with a tablespoon of chicken on it. For R58! No garnishing or anything with it. Never again! Burger was R91 with a cheese sauce that was inedible. Avoid! Avoid! At all cost!

We just had the best time at Safari. It's perfect if you have children there is a train that takes the kids around, animals and a jumping castle. Really a great Sunday outing. The food was average and although we asked for a scrambled egg we got a chopped up fried egg. Not happy with that and not really impressed with the food. But like I said it was a great outing for the kids.

The quality of the food is not up to standard with the price, if you don't believe me go order a sub there, it is basically just a hotdog bun, no salad or chips, reminded me of something I ate at a funeral . Very disappointed but the rest of the place is still nice

Tried this place out while looking around the plant nursery, sad to say that I would not recommend it for anyone to try out if they are a foodie. I ordered a cheesecake, a plate of nachos and the Chai latte. For the cheesecake, to my dismay, they had failed to mention that it was refrigerad so the taste was overly rich with cream with a far too sweet berry jam topping. The plate of nachos was a disaster for the high pricing as the nachos were doritos with cheddar cheese and what tasted like store bought toppings all on a measily side plate. Lastly for the Chai latte it was nothing to do with Chai but a vanilla milkshake topped with cinnamon. The atmosphere is casaul depending on your seating, I would like warn of the exorbetant amount of flies buzzing about... Would not visit this establishment any time again in the future. Dissapointing for a place that could have so much potential.

Very very slow service, waited way to long for only hamburgers. Choose your seating very carefully, as we landed right next to a little "lapa" tipe of area with an uncontrolable noisy bunch of woman having a bridal shower.

Love coming here for lunch, especially eating the eisbein or burgers. It's such a relaxing venue with all the water features and koi ponds. Feel like I can take a breather and enjoy my meal with no rush. Friendly and efficient staff.

Love coming here!

Perfect for a family occasion or just a chilled out day looking at plants.

As a child we came here with family and we use to play in the kiddies petting zoo while our parents eat and drink coffee, birthday parties and kitchen teas, even baby-showers!

When we were older / Teenagers we use to hang out at the pub, have drinks and watch sports events, then weddings and more parties!

When I was a student, I use to come here on sundays, eat a magnum and walk through the gardens,

After that my husband and i come here regularly for a weekend breakfast or just afternoon Chicken Burger.

I love Safari, they have the most diverse plant selection and the orchid shows are beautiful!
