I think I eat here at least once every week. And I have the same thing half portion chicken with chips. The entire staff here is very friendly even the cook pops out of that window to say high to me for some reason the cab drivers run their business from right outside the area which at first was really uncomfortable for me but I've grown close to then and if I don't have barcelos for a while they always ask where I have been. It's my cheers moment (where everybody knows your name). I do also love the trading hours they fit well into the Hatfield nightlife and also note they use gas stoves so food is available when there's load shedding.
I went to this Barcelos about a month ago and there was this special running for 4 pieces of chicken with 2 pap for about R78. My friend and I bought it and it was so good that we came back the next day and bought it again😂😂 for people who love eating food that fills them up, this meal was definitely it.
The restaurant has a charming appeal, it's great for just a nice lunch meet-up etc. The serving staff was really friendly and helpful; the lady at the was the one who suggested we buy the meal because we were going to buy a 2 piece meal x4.
Overall, I really liked the place.
In 2017 I Used to stay at city lodge just adjacent and Being a Kenyan we eat Ugali or Pap that wasn't available at City lodge and Barcelos Hatfield was the only place I could enjoy this meal at affordable prices and I can't forget to mention the waiter by the name Zama, very professional.
Cool place with fairly affordable meals, making it ideal for its location close to the University. Service is quite modest and the meals are usually great.You can also use this as a public meeting place for discussions and business meetings.
However, there are times when you might find your chicken insufficiently cooked, with red blood still sticking to the bones.

My boyfriend’s favorite restaurant. We love everything there, very tasty and affordable meals. Would definitely recommend to anyone and everyone.
The service when I walked in was nice, meat was fresh. Typical Barcelos. Spoiled however by the ordering system. Apparently the voice prompts and selection bit accurate and when I ordered I got there and my meal was not prepared. I advised them to correct the Voice prompts.
Well prepared meals, beverages a bit high priced. In a busy area, parking is an issue at times.
Ordered a coffee and was served it warm not hot as I expected! Their cabbage was not fresh, it tasted like it had stayed for days. It's not a bar restaurant but they just need to improve on some few things.
Their chicken is the best, and their garlic bread tops everything
Love the new place after it has been renovated. Place looks very beautiful and it has a good seating area etc. Food is pretty good too and tasty and a competitive price. Haven't had a bad experience as of yet so can definitely recommend.
