Great food and nice atmosphere. Our waiter was very attentive and management also came around to make sure that we were happy. This is how an restaurant should be run. Great food and fast & friendly service. Well done. This is why we always return...

Enjoyed the food especially now that I am trying to eat healthy, it was the 1st time eating salmon and seared tuna and I really enjoyed it. Fresh and delicious. The watermelon and strawberry mocktail was a bit sweet but definitely refreshing. Will definitely come back.

From 1 star to 5 star. Definitely improving service. Had a call from manager Tafara and he really improved the service! Sushi is a must at John Dorys Olympus Village. Old review This place getting really bad. Just looked at sushi... It is really bad. Service non existed. When it opened it was great now it became bad. Quote from waiter "it is a half price sushi you will get less fish" is this really happening to John Dorys???

Awesome service and food! Had a great experience. They catered for gluten- free and for vegetarian food. The calamari and chicken go very well together.

Never ever again...!!!, friendly staff but a huge delay in the kitchen for some reason. Waited 2+ hrs for food for 6, little to no effort from the manager to put us at ease. Leaving now and sushi is still not here...touching on 3 hrs now...avoid at all cost...

Ok. So we went to what we thought was the good John Dory fish special on a Tuesday. Well it was not special and Basa cannot be called fish. What a disgusting meal. Fish was a grey mushy pulp and terrible...so will look elsewhere for the Tuesday specials. Not recommended at all!!!!

So, I took a very dear friend for a nice night out, picked John Dory's because of their combos and sushi.
We were impressed by the different types of sushi, but ended up sharing a platter for 2.
Besides the below average cocktail, which was just a premix and nothing special about it, the food was not all that fantastic.
The calamari tasted as if it was an hour or two from going off, the mussels where too chewy and the prawns tasted like it had been seasoned with a off the shelf barbeque spice for beef. The hake was not bad, but being the only thing out of the what looked like a promising platter that was somewhat edible, it didn't do the name John Dory nor the food mix any justice.
Before the platter, we shared a cheesy prawns started, which made up for the meal entirely. It was the one nice thing about the evening, that we ordered extra bread to lick the plate clean!
The service was not bad, but definitely not something I would write home about.

I think I'll definitely give this John Dory's a skip in the future!
Would not recommend this place to anyone. The food was horrible. We went for the Wednesday Sushi special... the sushu was yuck. We then thought to try a seafood platter. There was sand in the calamari, the mussel sauce was made from instant soup and the prawns were tasteless... the only thing on the plate worth eating were the chips. Will never ever go back again.

Celebrated a birthday with friends here, they go out of their way to accommodate your needs. The sushi was good, but what left us amazed was a bar one chocolate cake they had on the day - not too sweet, perfectly moist, chocolatey cake - yummy! Served with ice cream and a special birthday song. They have awesome specials too. Our waiter wasn't great but we really enjoyed our time here.

What a terrible experience with the worst staff and Owner. Truly dissapointed as I have always been a John Dory's fan. I can say with honesty that the Olympus branch does not uphold the standards which one would expect. We booked and upon arrival 3 staff members had to be asked what was going as they could not find our name, the staff had no manners and clealry no training. The girl at the front of house was not neat at all and could not care about assisiting us. When they eventually found our name, very clearly written down we did not even receive an apology. We were sat next to the door leading to the play area that was constantly opened by children and staff alike and could barely hear each other. The waiter had no clue as to the menu and asked us what soda water is when we requested a lime and soda. No training. We were advised that they did not have stock of most of the items we wanted to order and when we ordered, our food took more than an hour and when it eventually arrived it was horrible. The calamari was hard as plastic and there were only 5 small pieces. The food was cold and had no flavour and one could not even bite through the calamari. The fish was not cleanded properly and was so overcooked it was shrivelled up. We requested to see the owner, who then via our waiter told us it's not his problem. What a shocking and appaling way to deal with customers. Not even an apology or an effort to assist. It was a Friday evening and there were barely any customers - now I know why.
Meet & Eat
We visited John Dory's in Faerie Glen for a very unusual experimental sushi and craft beer tasting dinner. A bit cautious at first, we were absolutely delighted by how well the craft beer and sushi paired with each other. You'd be forgiven for thinking that you are in a fine dining restaurant, with a really nice atmosphere, a good amount of space and a fantastic sushi bar. Chef Ian spoiled us with a few interesting and personalised combos and even allowed us to make a few suggestions. We will definitely be keen on having this as a regular menu option, as it just adds something interesting and special to a standard menu.

Service: 5/5

Atmosphere: 4/5

Food: 5/5

Light, tasty and delightful!!!!

A special thank-you to Ian and his Sushi Chef for the sushi and craft beer pairing dinner hosted at John Dory's. This pairing was wonderful, creative and ideal for our Spring weather.

My highlight of the evening was the Prawn Avalanche with ginger, 7 spice and Japanese mayonnaise....simply scrumptious.

I'm not really a beer drinker but I was really impressed with the Cluver & Jack cider made from estate apples.....it went down really well!!!

I can't wait until to return to John Dory's to try out their other seafood options.

Zomans - we were treated to a night of sushi and craft beer pairing, sounds a bit weird but was actually a really good combination. We sat at the sushi table with our very own sushi chef at our disposal. The owner/manager Ian was there talking us through every step of the way and making sure we legit just enjoy the evening.

I have to say the combo that really ticked me off was the Prawn Avalanche - ginger, 7 spice & Japanese mayo paired with a jack black lumber jack amber ale. This whole combination was the cherry on top for me. With regards to the craft beer I really enjoyed the Cluver & Jack cider/craftbeer.
I really enjoyed this whole experience and would definitely be keen on coming back for more :)

Waitress very pleasant. Nice play area for kids, mommy and me could chat and relax. Food was mediocre. Took way too long for a restaurant not even busy. Prawns were mushy and tasteless, sole was dry. Their trout sushi was OK, the fashion sandwich was a little too much rice, a little bit too much of a bite. Will I be back, hmmmmmm, if I run outta places for kids, probably.

I was invited to join the fellow foodies for a beer and sushi tasting at John Dorys at olympus village, it was amazing,

Craft Beer and Sushi sounds like a bit of a weird combination but it was carefully figured out and it was surprisingly amazing, the tastes worked out sooo well,

We sat at the belt table and it was so much fun to see them preparing the sushi while we tasted all the interesting flavour combinations.

The restaurant is beautifully designed and it was a pleasure to be there,

I would definitely recommend it to you, tast some beer and sushi, just choose the right one

A huge thank you to Zomato for setting up this lovely meet up. This was my first time in the Olympus village area and might I say what a lovely area it is. John Dory's is nestle in at the far west end close to the water feature. I really want to take the time to thank the team for the time and effort they put into this, beer and sushi pairing is such and concept but it's also a concept very hard to achieve and I'm fully mesmerized by the process it must have taken to compose each pairing. I will each pairing did work for me some better than others, I especially loved the cluver and jack cider with fruit futomaki and terayaki mayo, The jack black lumber jack Amber ale with prawn Avalanche, ginger, 7 spice & Japanese mayo and for the open pairing I did enjoy Nadia Barnard's crab stick maki. I also quite liked the vibe of the place, we were seated by the sushi bar as the owner/chef Ian walked us through each pairing and the place was just buzzing. The slight oversight was the slow service, and the slightly just slightly cramped seating. But apart from that really it's a really chilled place with a good wifi connection which is always a total bonus.

A Zomato-meetup with a twist! We were invited to attend the Zomato Sushi and Beer pairing at the spiffy and new Olympus Village centre. Another shopping centre in the east of Pretoria; but this one you don't have to pay for parking.
We were entertained at the sushi bar; in the heat of the action.
The concept of sushi and beer pairing is strange and was met with a lot of anticipation. Ian, the Owner Chef, jumped right into the "sushi pit" and assisted the "sushi master" with preparations and service. Ian also guided us through the pairings and the flavours.
The set-up was great - loved being at the sushi bar. The beer was interesting. Drinks service (additional to the pairing) was fairly slow and the wine was served very warm. Other than that, it was a great night out with quality sushi and craft beer.

If you are in the Olympus Village centre, make your way to the furthest corner of the centre, or ask the friendly security guards for directions.

Sushi and Beer pairing, sounds unconventional but it actually is a great combination. We were treated to the best John Dory's sushi, seated at the sushi bar made by the sushi chef. The owner Ian introduced all the beers and the sushi it was paired with. My best taste sensation was the Fruit futomaki with the Cluver & Jack Apple cider. A great evening with great company.
