We love the Curry at Pride Of India, and travel from Dunvegan to Pretoria (40km). The management and staff are always very attentive! Excellent setting and always delicious.
First time visit. In my opinion the best Indian food in town. Not too much choices on the menu (which us good. I don't like 30 pages menu as most of Indian restaurants here offer). One can see that nan is home made and not bought in Makro ;) Also the ambiente is very pleasant, light and airy. Not obsessed with trying to look "Indian". In this case, it is the Food which is convincing, not interior. Also service was good and professional. Hope that restaurant will keep up to its standard.
The loveliest of Indian food! The waiter was very friendly and did his utmost to keep our glasses filled at all times. The bread-basket is the best concept ever!
An old favourite, although I still miss the Groenkloof venue. I always feel at home visiting this restaurant, the staff are so warm and friendly. Lovely curries, lovely ambiance. Also order from them from UberEats!
The food was pretty fantastic, good main course portion sizes. The prices are high but worth it in my opinion. The starters were good even though there was a bit of a wait. Starter portions could have been increased for the price you pay. Over all a good experience with a table looking out at a pretty decent view.
What a lovely experience at Pride of India last night! After never being to an authentic Indian restaurant it was surprising. We tried many different dishes, from butter chicken to prawn briyani. All delicious with just the right amount of heat!
Wow! One word to describe the flavors coming out of this kitchen. I have never tasted such authentic naan bread in my life and it is seriously the best I have ever had! I absolutely love the modern take on the butter chicken with a hint of fresh vanilla pods, it livens the curry up like you can't believe!
They have a delicious Cardamom carrot halva which goes so well with the vanilla ice cream.
This is and has been my top choice for top quality Indian cuisine!
Last night, I got a strange notion of deja vu walking into the Pride of India (PoI) Restaurant at 103 Club Avenue in Waterkloof Heights, partly because I had eaten there before many times but a completely different type of cuisine. This restaurant was in fact started back in 1997, but just has an ambient new home complete with fairy lights, candlelit tables and pretty views.
The Pride Of India is a Fine Dining Indian Restaurant in Pretoria, serving traditional North Indian food. Think Butter Chicken Vanilla, Gosht Mirch, Crab Curry, Jhinga Jolpuri to name a few.. Last night, I got to meet both Proprietor Kishore Bhima (who founded Pride of India) and his son Mitch Bhima, who really surprised with his fusion combinations paired with some delicious Haute Cabriere wines.
Onto the food which had been expertly paired last night:
Crab Inferno Pasta paired with Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose.
Chicken Seekh Kebab and a beetroot sauce paired with Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir.
Oysters and a side of tomato masala paired with Pierre Jourdan Blanc de Blancs.
Lamb shai Kurma and Lamb Gosht Masala paired with both the Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir Reserve 2014 and their new 2015.
For dessert, we were served pistachio ice cream with caramelized Pierre Jourdan Ratafia.
The two stand out dishes of the night for me were the oysters in a tomato masala sauce and the pistachio ice cream with caramelized Pierre Jourdan Ratafia. The fusion combinations were both creative, well-plated and delicious!
*Recommendation: For a taste of North Indian fine dining cuisine in the heart of Pretoria, you cannot go wrong with a visit to PoI.

Lovely atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff , great service and the definitely the tastiest curries I've tried in Pretoria 🔥 situated in Waterkloof heights on club avenue. Give it a try .
Amazing food. Truly superb. Beautiful setting. Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff. Talk to the owner, he will have you laughing.
Excellent food with lots of creativity. Attention to detail by Mitesh is always at hand and the value for money factor is greatly appreciated
Exquisite Indian food. I had the butter chicken which was cooked to perfection. Fluffy basmati rice and delicious naan. Friendly and helpful waiters. Will definitely be here again!
A great Indian restaurant is one that serves you freshly made rogni naan that comes hot to your table and that is exactly what I got at Pride of India. I decided to visit the restaurant when one of my friends was keen to have Indian food and we definitely weren't disappointed!
We decided to try the Butter Chicken (Tandoori spiced chicken finished in creamy tomato gravy flavoured with qasuri methi and saffron), Tandoori Chicken (Whole baby Chicken marinated in traditional aromatic Indian herbs and spices barbecued in a traditional clay oven, served with chips) and the Rogan Josh (De-boned leg of lamb in a clove and masala flavor).
All three dishes lived up to their descriptions and were very well balanced in terms of spices used and flavor. My personal favorite was the tandoori chicken which I actually want to go back to have more of.
The restaurant itself is rather nice and ideally located however the service was rather average. A tad bit overpriced and on top of that there is a plating fee which we were not aware of until we received the bill.
My two sisters and I visited this restaurant in the middle of the week at 7pm. We did not have a reservation, however the staff made plans to seat us at a balcony table without any problems.
A lovely complimentary spicy custard starter followed.
The chef came over and helped us to choose a variety of curries for the table. We told him that we like peas and he even made a special "off menu" potato and pea curry for us.
The food was fantastic and service immaculate!
Amazing !!!! Tried out the new Indian tappa's menu today. Wow , what a totally different turn on Indian cuisine . New Indian inspired cocktails that might leave a fireball effect in you palate , but fun to try . Cool and chilled vibes now in the terrace section
Second time we have been here since they moved and I must say both occasions have been fantastic.
This time we had the Murgh Shai Kurma Chicken and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Both exceptional curries. Lovely setting, good service and great food. Well worth a visit.
With a vibrant atmosphere and wonderful service, it's hard not to appreciate the restaurant, walking in and being welcomed with numerous awards and medals can only be validated by the exotic flavours and aromas. This is without the best Indian restaurant i've ever been to and will surely making dining there soon again!
Recommended meal: Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan; or alternatively the Calamari Meal
Restaurant week - so we could choose between so a few star dishes.
I was impressed, they did improve and dare I say they surpassed Geet? definitely if you compare the restaurant week menus.
I had some super soft Calamari great Josh Rohan Lamb. Amazing butter naan bread.
Dessert was part of the restaurant package, We got served Ice cream and carrot halva - super sweet! but Interesting.
Welcome back, and thank you for the improvement!
I like the new setting
Best Indian dining experience in Pretoria. Classy decor with intimate ambience. Manager and waitrons are attentive. Food is a little expensive, but well worth it.
Pride of India is a fine dining Indian restaurant in the Hazeldean Food Village. Inside it's aglow with soft lighting. Crisp white tablecloths. Delicious, palatable food with complex flavours. Rich and divers. Dishes ask to be shared, and so we did. Service genial and friendly. Recommend. I love Indian cuisine!
We love this restaurant! Try the Calamari Masala starter. It was fantastic! We have tried many different curries and we have been happy with them all! Great service, great food, great restaurant.
I wanted to try this place out for quite a while, as I am a big fan of Indian cuisine. I wasn't disappointed. Pride of India has a great menu, with a variety of Indian dishes that are traditional yet different with a twist. The flavours were stunning and complex and sauces and gravies infused and reduced to perfection! By far the best Indian restaurant I have been to! And I am looking forward to be returning.
We had a fun time at Pride of India. The waiters were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was quiet and ideal for a friends or family dinner. The waiter recommended the chicken butter dish, which was very tasty. The chicken korma was also very nice. The only downside was that we didn't know the dish did not include rice or naan bread when the waiter asked if we wanted a side and we only found out when the bill came that we would have to pay extra for the naan bread. Overall the food is tasty, but a bit over priced.
Pride of India is an upmarket restaurant and a family favourite. The food is of extreme good quality and the wine list is superb. The owner is always very friendly, welcoming and together with his very well trained staff, take care of your every need. This restaurant is definitely recommend for lovers of Spice.
Warm and welcoming reception. Good attentive service followed by ice cold cobra beer and authentic and delicious curry! Will definitely be back soon...
I really like the new restaurant. I'm a bit on the fence about the blue lighting. On the one hand it adds a intimate setting, or on the other hand does it seem a bit distracting?
The starters on the first page are all very delicious. Especially the prawn, green and pink chicken, and samoosas. I didn't quite enjoy my main, but that's because I chose the paneer, should have known, I am after all a meaty stew person. They make excellent parathas, which is my second favourite accompaniment with basmati. The service was excellent and the owners very friendly. The new location and decor is very charming, simple and clean cut. A good restaurant for an intimate event.
Came to have dinner here on an extremely busy night about a weekend ago.
The manager placed us in the cellar where we had our own private space. We enjoyed quite a few bottels of wine and the manager really knows his wine!
The food was out of this world and the portion sizes are awesome!
We had a really lovely time and cannot wait to return!
What an awesome evening!! Another wonderful Reataurant Week experience. We were last at Pride of India while it was still in Groenkloof. This was our first time at the new location and it is so much better.
The waiters were extremely friendly and helpful and the manager involved throughout the evening. The food came quickly after ordering - we never really had to wait for anything. Just before the mains were served we were brought warmed up plates which I thought was a very nice touch.
The food, oh the food!! We were served with a spicy butternut soup as an appetizer which was awesome. If it is not on their menu I would suggest they add it as a starter - it was that good. My starter was spiced, deep-fried onion balls served with a mint dip which was nice but my husband had the minced lamb kebabs - definitely the dish of the evening!! We ordered a lamb rogan josh (perfectly spiced) and a butter chicken (strangely sweet, but it worked). The dessert was carrot halwa with ice cream - something I've never had but really enjoyed.
I have to say, for the price set by Restaurant Week, we definitely received value for money. And will I be back? Most definitely!!
So today as part of restaurant week I went out for lunch at pride of India, I must say I was entirely impressed. The starter of chicken tikka was entirely out of this world. I have not tasted chicken so flavorsome and succulent in a long time. Service staff was so friendly and attentive! Our mains were just as great. I can't wait to go back!
This is the quintessential "neighborhood Indian eatery" you are looking for. Chef Mitesh Bhima and his Father cook up a fragrant storm in this "renovated" restaurant. If you are stuck for choice a variety of hot and not-so-hot dishes can be order as a platter. Highly recommend: Glass of chilled Vrede & Lust Jess (Rose) and (Butter Chicken Vanilla) Tandoori spiced boneless chicken finished in tomato reduction flavoured with Vanilla pods and saffron.
As far as Indian food goes, it is one of the more expensive restaurants you'll find. We had a 3 course meal, and everything was enjoyable (just maybe not R130 a meal enjoyable) and the owner was very attentive and helpful. Not the best Indian food we've had... But definitely worth a visit..
We went to Pride of India for our wedding anniversary just before it relocated to Hazelwood. It was upstaira in the Groenkloof Spar shopping complex. The food was absolutely delicious. Proper Indian fare made with the best ingredients, butter chicken and vanilla curry was a winner. It had that melt in your mouth with every bite effect.
