We love the Curry at Pride Of India, and travel from Dunvegan to Pretoria (40km). The management and staff are always very attentive! Excellent setting and always delicious.
First time visit. In my opinion the best Indian food in town. Not too much choices on the menu (which us good. I don't like 30 pages menu as most of Indian restaurants here offer). One can see that nan is home made and not bought in Makro ;) Also the ambiente is very pleasant, light and airy. Not obsessed with trying to look "Indian". In this case, it is the Food which is convincing, not interior. Also service was good and professional. Hope that restaurant will keep up to its standard.
The loveliest of Indian food! The waiter was very friendly and did his utmost to keep our glasses filled at all times. The bread-basket is the best concept ever!
An old favourite, although I still miss the Groenkloof venue. I always feel at home visiting this restaurant, the staff are so warm and friendly. Lovely curries, lovely ambiance. Also order from them from UberEats!
The food was pretty fantastic, good main course portion sizes. The prices are high but worth it in my opinion. The starters were good even though there was a bit of a wait. Starter portions could have been increased for the price you pay. Over all a good experience with a table looking out at a pretty decent view.
What a lovely experience at Pride of India last night! After never being to an authentic Indian restaurant it was surprising. We tried many different dishes, from butter chicken to prawn briyani. All delicious with just the right amount of heat!
Wow! One word to describe the flavors coming out of this kitchen. I have never tasted such authentic naan bread in my life and it is seriously the best I have ever had! I absolutely love the modern take on the butter chicken with a hint of fresh vanilla pods, it livens the curry up like you can't believe!
They have a delicious Cardamom carrot halva which goes so well with the vanilla ice cream.
This is and has been my top choice for top quality Indian cuisine!
Last night, I got a strange notion of deja vu walking into the Pride of India (PoI) Restaurant at 103 Club Avenue in Waterkloof Heights, partly because I had eaten there before many times but a completely different type of cuisine. This restaurant was in fact started back in 1997, but just has an ambient new home complete with fairy lights, candlelit tables and pretty views.
The Pride Of India is a Fine Dining Indian Restaurant in Pretoria, serving traditional North Indian food. Think Butter Chicken Vanilla, Gosht Mirch, Crab Curry, Jhinga Jolpuri to name a few.. Last night, I got to meet both Proprietor Kishore Bhima (who founded Pride of India) and his son Mitch Bhima, who really surprised with his fusion combinations paired with some delicious Haute Cabriere wines.
Onto the food which had been expertly paired last night:
Crab Inferno Pasta paired with Pierre Jourdan Belle Rose.
Chicken Seekh Kebab and a beetroot sauce paired with Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir.
Oysters and a side of tomato masala paired with Pierre Jourdan Blanc de Blancs.
Lamb shai Kurma and Lamb Gosht Masala paired with both the Haute Cabriere Pinot Noir Reserve 2014 and their new 2015.
For dessert, we were served pistachio ice cream with caramelized Pierre Jourdan Ratafia.
The two stand out dishes of the night for me were the oysters in a tomato masala sauce and the pistachio ice cream with caramelized Pierre Jourdan Ratafia. The fusion combinations were both creative, well-plated and delicious!
*Recommendation: For a taste of North Indian fine dining cuisine in the heart of Pretoria, you cannot go wrong with a visit to PoI.
