As student me & my wife and most of our friends would go to River Cafe on a regular basis to "dine and wine"!
Coming back after so many years and experiencing the changes made to the venue, I must say, I am very impressed, and the venue and offerings are still one of the best in Potchefstroom.
Affordable, clean, and I must when you're in the area.
Their pizza could just be the best I've had anywhere in South Africa. Try the Lamb pizza, with dried apricot and mint... delectable 👏🏻👏🏻

This is a hidden gem in Potchefstroom. First time here and visiting from Cape Town, I couldn’t believe the atmosphere and the incredible variety of Belgian beer on the menu! The Pizza menu is also very unique and a must do when visiting Potch! Great experience!

Service was satisfactory, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance is relaxed, making it suitable for both casual outings and special occasions. Prices are reasonable for a riverside location, providing good value for the experience.
While the outdoor seating is a highlight, indoor options could use a bit more attention to comfort. I'll definitely be returning for more of the scenic views and delicious cuisine.
I'm from Cape Town and I "discovered" the restaurant in 2022 when I was in Potch for a weekend. I was so impressed I promised myself I would return when I'm in Potch again. Went there tonight... a year later, but I'm as impressed as I was originally. Highly recommended. The only negative aspect is the flying insects but very little can be done as the restaurant is situated next to water where many of the insects live. So I don't see it as a negative aspect in my review.
Lovely place to visit it has indoor seating and a deck where you see Potch dam, we receive very friendly sevice from the waitress. Would definitly go again!
Potchefstroom is a lovely town. Totally under estimated. One of the best universities NWU. I loved visiting River Cafe. So tranquil and great service
I don’t come to Potch often to be honest, but damn when you do..... The alcohol selection is, in a word, extensive, and in the good way! This place will tickle any fancy, and you have got to be on the deck. The view of the dam and overall area amazing.
Did I mention the good service and pretty awesome food as well??

If you're looking for a place in nature to enjoy a wide variety of drinks cocktails this is the place to go.
Fantistic vibe, delicious food, will definitely be coming back regularly. I highly recommend at least going once, their alcohol selection is diverse, and their food menu is wonderful.
