Review The Toad In The Village - Noordhoek

Dewald Reinke
Looking for a place to grab lunch and also be close to the Noordhoek Farm Village (reviewed separately) we decided to give The Toad In The Village a try. The restaurant was pretty busy as we arrived at lunch time, however we managed to find an open table. They have a wide variety of different dishes and everything sounded very tasty. Some of our group decided to grab pizza and others went for the Hake and Chips option, which I can really recommend. What I liked was they had a small separate bar area available for those who only want to grab a drink. There is ample parking available as they are located on the Noordhoek Farm Village and they have indoor as well as outdoor (undercover) seating options, so it would be good for cold as well as warm days. We enjoyed our time here and will be back in the future.

The wife and I went on a date night. We had a nice quiet table upstairs. My cheese burger, with a medium rare patty (requested by me), was great. My wife had her favourite pizza, The New Orleans. The Toad does not disappoint.

Everything was top notch!! Buffalo Wings was a generaous portion, staff is friendly and on point. Guinness on tap :) The Village burger was the best!!

The Toad is a popular spot for locals and tourists. They are especially busy when there are big sports games on. They are popular amongst bar flies, groups of friends, and people looking for a lovely meal. There is inside and outside areas, upstairs and downstairs. Inside upstairs is usually warm and cozy from the fireplace. You should definitely stop by.

Great experience! One of the best Prego Rolls in Cape Town. The sauce had amazing flavours. Compliments to the chef. Didn't expect such a great experience in a pub restaurant. Pleasantly surprised. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Well done Toad in the Village staff. Will be back again and again. Aidan and Chantel

This facility is smoke free upstairs and perfect to watch your favorite sports. The taco salad is my favorite. Also, check out the Toad on Boye’s Drive too.

Love this place. As close as we have to a traditional pub. Upstairs fireplace, free WiFi, craft beers and a cosy menu. (Menu needs a refresh though - only because I have been coming here for years!)

Very lovely setting in Noordhoek Village. Fantastic food and great service. Even though the restaurant was very full, we barely blinked and our food was ready. Amazing onion rings! Melt in your mouth calamari and chicken livers that taste like home.

I recently completed training in Cape Town and work here for a couple of days The food was a hit & miss, but being a bar I did not expect excellent food. The service is good and some of the staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is lively and they get busy which is always a great indicator. While there I tried the burgers, pizzas and some of the other meals. Surprisingly their coffee is quite good for a "bar"

Really great vibe for a cold beer and incredibly tasty food. Service was a bit slow in terms of the food coming but it was really busy and over lunch time. Def recommend

Great place to socialize over a beer & watch sport, but (alas) not much in the line of VEGAN food, other than (really good 😋) "cheeseless" pizza ... not even plant-milk on offer 🤪 ... good (free) wifi 📡

We went for lunch this past Sunday, first time. I would honestly say best food and fantastic service. Our waiter (sorry can't remember the name) -man with glasses...you were so sufficient and what great service! My dad and I had the beer battered fish - incredible and my husband, brother had the burgers also raved!

Great pub vibe, popular & friendly meeting place in a unique country village setting. Bar service occasionally good but not consistent, food is mediocre.
Jason
Lovely spot to pull in for a beer with some mates and eat some unhealthy but seriously tasty pub food! Beers are cold and the food hot - so ticks the boxes for a village pub!

Wow... this place is truly a breath of fresh air. From fast and friendly service to the hearty meals that would make your belly sing. All without breaking the bank...Thanks guys. If we didn't live in New Zealand, we would be around here every weekend.

Impromptu decision to do Sunday sundowners in Noordhoek. Decided to park here for the afternoon.

Along with our drinks we ordered the main portion size of nachos to share. I then spotted the wood fire oven inside and decided to add a pizza to share for the table.

Had the 3 cheese 'pita', but asked them to make it into a pizza (add tomato sauce to the base). Yum-o! Not shy with the cheese at all. The nachos had a good ratio of chip to toppings. There were however a few burnt chippies.

Food here is typical 'pub' fair. But they do it well.

Wood oven pizzas are a must! Thin based and lots of flavor. Great variety of beer and great value for money. Very relaxed and casual and some of the better service I have received in the area! Go for some beer and pizza and you will not regret it!

Great spot to catch the game, just make sure you call ahead and book a spot near the TV as it can get very busy.

Food is general pub grub, it's mostly good, but the standards are known to drop if they're really busy.

Service is always friendly, but again can be very slow on busy days.

They have a nice selection of beers, but the wine list definitely needs a little refining.

Went here for Valentine's dinner with my husband, brother & sister in law. Dinner was lovely. Service was quick, efficient and the waiters were very warm and friendly.

Ok.. Well here we go again... Yes, I do appreciate that it is a "pub".. Service is friendly, but not motivated.. I again tried the" to come back for ' ribs.. Lol... I sent them back.. So Dry.. Minimal basting too.. Still would have been dry... I could suggest, what u should do, but u should know... And they not cheap. So make the effort... Decided on have pizzas they had nice flavor, but the nice thin base, tasted a bit stale.. I remember trying one of their burgers before.. Yes... Stale roll.. Nothing worse. Next time in the village I will try the other 2 spots.. Cafe Roux, evening gig menu, sux. That's why we went to the frog place. O well..
The ribs in the pic.. Are ribs I just made on a braai, precooked, pick n pay brand, u just added lappies sticky ribs sauce.. Actually good... Now thats scary
.... 19th July 2017...much better.. had a double cheese burger for R110... very fair, considering the patties are 180g each(according to the new, very hot, efficient manageress.. who will go far in life with her attitude, look after her)
the burger was a bit dry, but a fresh bun, made up for it.) well done guys

What an epic little place. Finally got away from the hustle and bustle in Jhb and I must say that this little place is such an eye opener. With the mountain as your backdrop and the sun setting at 8, it makes for an unbelievable little vibe. Service can always be improved on but that would make it very Johannesburg like so I will accept it as it is.

A really nice venue for families unlike the other two toad venues. The food is pretty much the same as the others with a slightly quieter atmosphere and cold beer ready.

Awesome pub lunch!

I loved the menu, everything I could possibly want in a pub watching sport.

I found the menu really good value for money, especially with the portion sizes. The pizzas have at least 4 ingredients and the average price is R80, which is soooo good!

Service was pleasant and the manager was on the ball!

We must have had a bad day after seeing the past reviews as can safely say this was the worst food I have in the cape. Ribs were a joke for flavor, chips were I think made with 10 day old oil, my father in law didn't even finish his burger and said was worst he has had in 10 years. Only good thing was the Guinness

I've always enjoyed the toads pizzas. The last time I went we decided to try the chilli poppers as a starter. For anyone who is wanting to order them they should rather be called bacon poppers. There is about a third of a chilli inside, no cream cheese, just bacon. The description should be more clear on the menu.

Popped in here on the recommendation of a local. Owned by Bobby Skinstad, this little pub offers giant screen TVs to watch sports and very friendly waiters and waitresses.

We opted for the fried calamari and chips. I have eaten calamari hundreds of times, but I have never eaten calamari that was THIS tasty.
Fresh, soft and delicately battered; I was in foodie heaven. The tartare sauce is creamy and tangy.

Golden fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside are the perfect partner.
Washed down with a Savannah Light - this is the perfect Saturday afternoon pub lunch.

Do yourself a favour and ensure at least someone at your table orders this meal so that you can at least taste it, you won't be sorry!

Not being any sports on, the atmosphere was laid back, perfect for a relaxing visit. The rugby memorabilia everywhere is a fun trip down memory lane .

The restaurant is situated within a little complex which offers some shops and a small hotel restaurant.
As we were leaving, Prime Circle were getting ready to perform to a small gathering of people clustered on the grass.
Lovely little centre ...

Create place to spend your Sunday afternoon sipping on a cold one. Great vibe and service. Love their pizza menu. Would definitely become a regular. 👌

Fantastic food and service. Loved the jalapeno poppers and nice portion of rump steak. Lovely atmosphere. Great venue and dog friendly. Will highly recommend this place for people visiting the area.

We enjoy each toad for different reasons. This one because of their great vibe, outside area and ribbbssssss! I love that its always heaving with locals, the service is always great and fab location. The fact that I can leave the husband with his beer and pop over to the deli to do some shopping is awesome. Its also kids friendly, which gives a lovely family atmosphere to your visit.

The Toad in the Village – Noordhoek
It Just feels right
The second of the Toad trilogy to visit within a week. Been to the Toad on the Road, (Lakeside) got the T shirt and all. With only the Toad and Josephine (Claremont) not accounted for yet.

World Cup rugby at the Toad in the Village is as festive as it can get. Together with a very passionate and patriotic crowd, we interrupted our beer and rugby watching to attend to the business of Toad legendary pizza eating.

In keeping with the current World Cup events we ordered accordingly. The half El Scorcho pizza and half garden salad meal for our English companion (Only lasted half the world cup) A regina pizza for our almost Welsh lady (Got going but never made it to the end) and the Parma Rocket pizza's for ourselves (Started off bad but got going like a rocket). In the final, the Parma Rocket outplayed the El Scorocho.

The El Scorocho pizza - chilli beef mince, red peppers, onions, jalapeños and guacamole- was packed with an abundance of flavourful toppings. The accompanying half garden salad was crispy fresh. R85.00 Nice idea the half pizza and salad. Only question, what happened to the other half?
The Parma Rocket pizza was layered with enough parma ham and covered with fresh rocket. Added a touch of balsamic vinegar for good measure. R 95.00

In Summary - Service from our barman / waitron was text book quality. Attentive, patient and efficient. Worthy recipient of ‘The barman of the match’ award.

We may not have been seated at Twickenham, but the vibe and the festivities at the Toad in the Village made us all feel like we all belonged. No better place to watch the World Cup rugby at, than the home of legendary World Cup winner Bob Skinstad. It just feels right.

All three Toad's are well liked and supported Cape Town eateries and it’s not really difficult to see why. All the elements that make up a great establishment are present in abundance.

Thanks to you All
Will be back for Semi Finals and the Final
MR.G – Marcus Gibbons

Busy venue, booking is recommended. I was impressed with the menu as it covered everything. I didn't order a pizza but the table next to us had, they looked amazing! I had a burger, it was excellent. My partner had a prego, it was a monster of a steak which is rarely seen nowadays but much appreciated. Service was very attentive, vibey and friendly

This is the perfect place to watch the rugby at and have a few too many drinks! It has a fantastic vibe and superb chili poppers!! Definitely coming back!

Love this place! There is something about going to this little village, I feel like I am almost in another town/on holiday! We sat at a table outside, infront and it was a lovely late Sunday afternoon, the sun was still up and people were arriving with their pooches for a drink and/or a bite! I love that your dogs are allowed to join you! They even have water bowls they keep filled up for the pooches to grab a sip when thirsty ☺ The service was great and the food, as always, divine! I've only ever had their pizzas as I absolutely love them! I had the New Orleans, my fav! and my boyfriend the Bella Tuscany - yum yum yum! I saw other patrons having burgers and, I must say, they looked amazing! Such great portions, so I will definitely be trying their burgers next!
Sarah Booyens
A great little local spot. The pizza is great (I love the New Orleans) and the ribs are also fantastic. I love the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and there's a great area outside for the kiddies to run wild.

I had a pizza once with some mates. Order them for take away. I had the Josephine... It is hands down the best pizza I have ever! Eaten in my entire life. It was so good that the next day I bought all the ingredients and toppings and made a sandwich out of it all. Still did not taste as good as the pizza. I've been back numerous times since then The toad just has something about it that makes it such a fun type of vibe it's in a great location which just adds to how great the place is. Any other pizza tastes like cardboard compared to theirs. I've had a few item off the menu but their pizza is their shining star on the menu. To continue for with my rambling on. It was as if I died, went to heaven and then came back to life with each bite. Thank you for your great service and duty to my taste buds.

Never driven this far for grub but I'm so glad I did. Excellent food. The steak just melted away in my mouth. Could not recommend this place highly enough.

Great place to visit. True pub atmosphere and feel. Good selection on the menu and reasonably priced. Normally go their after walking the dogs as they allow my husky's. Always prepared with a water bowl for the pups. Really friendly staff and great for a afternoon visit or even a evening out with friends.
Mike
Warm pub atmosphere, cosy ambience inside (great for rainy days) open area downstairs. Nice place to visit during the rugby or football. Ribs used to be brilliant however I have noticed a change in them lately and I think are way over priced, along with most of the menu (considering its a pub/restaurant). Must try their New Orleans pizza, definitely one of the best. Drink selection could be improved for a bar. There is only one dessert on the menu which is disappointing. Staff are friendly and attentive.

Promising a proper pub experience, The Toad in the Village certainly delivers! Serving straight-up-and-down 'bloke' food, one could pick holes in the finer details but when your plate arrives piled with crispy, golden chips and big cuts of meat in good old barbecue sauce, it's hard not to be satisfied. We ordered a sirloin and a rump steak and are still rubbing our bellies.... Four hours later. The setting is ideal for watching sport or sharing a beer with friends on the upstairs deck looking into the plain trees.

The Toad is a great little place to catch up with good friends for a "pie and a pint". It has indoors and outdoors so caters for both Winter and Summer!

The food is what you would expect from a good pub. I had the ribs and they where very good! The beer selection is a bit disappointing though, I would have hoped for slightly more of a craft beer selection.
