Absolutely love this place. We ordered the Swordfish (on the waiter`s recommendation) and my partner said it was the best he's had. I had a peri peri chicken with salad. The dressing on the salad was AMAZING. I could eat it for breakfast. The chicken was a little undercooked for my taste (but perfect for non-fussy people) so they took it back to the kitchen with no questions, owner came and apologizing the waiter brought extra salad and chips so I didn't miss it while they were busy. The owner is constantly around and checking on tables, helping the waiters etc. You won't feel like there is a minute that you are unnoticed. When the waiter brings menus they also bring mint-infused water to give you time to consider their amazing range of craft beers and wines. The prices are so affordable considering the quality of food and service. JD served us, and is a top class waiter with a passion for his job. We will likely have all our meals here throughout our stay
Absolutely decadent food, lovely warm staff, the best lemon meringue pie I've ever eaten and could drive all tge way back for more. A real treat not to be missed
What an amazing little place! Definitely worth the visit. Breakfast was amazing and the server was so friendly and energetic. Their home made sauces and jams are a must try as well as the droëwors!
Well run establishment, highly client focused. Serving team have an excellent, positive attitude. Food was great. Loads of tasty fresh bakes and snacks for a road trip or take home. Get there early or book as it's very popular.
Nice place in Montagu along Route 62. Very good coffee and decent breakfast. A little on the expensive side, but a good experience overall. Really love their homemade reserves, especially Granny's Mustard. Can recommend the croissants as well.
The Rambling Rose has certainly earned it's name in my culinary diary.
The food was superb, filled with love and flavour. Food was served quickly with loads of homemade condiments (not your usual run of the mill) which enhanced the dishes.
The staff were so inviting, warm and friendly. Quick to assist and great to chat to.
There are also so many sweet and savory pastries available. So delicious looking we had to go back and get the last sausage roll.
Please give them a visit, so worth your time and your taste buds willnot regret it. Not to mention your wallet; lunch for 2, and 2 glasses of wine R260 odd rand.
Lovely Restaurant and Shopping Alert 😊
South Africa's feted Route 62 runs from Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape to Cape Town. It is a pleasant meander through picturesque little towns with a rich histories.
Montagu is a one of the towns on this route and the Rambling Rose is a delightful discovery in the town. It comes highly recommended by the locals (I got the tip from a local man with a delightful shop with "Quirky things" in the town center, opposite an art gallery and antiques shop).
The Rambling Rose looks beautiful from the outside - the geraniums were in full spring glory, and the old carriage stood sentinel to the right of the porch. Inside was a lovely surprise with the establishment stretching deeper and further inwards than one would anticipate.
The outside area at the back is a beautiful secret garden- like dining in a mini rain forest- I'd recommend that to any nature lover. The Siberian husky from next door Sasha, is big and friendly - utterly harmless.
The menu is delightfully hand-scribbled on a board- small town authentic 😉
For burger lovers, I'd recommend the Rambling Rose Burger - could really taste the meaty essence of the patty better. The Burger Special was also quite good- but the RR burger was more aligned with my taste buds. Different strokes, different folks.
Prices were reasonable and listed on the menu- see the included picture 😊
A very simple but delicious breakfast. We got the two & two breakfast with avocado. The tomato chili sauce was so good! If we have the chance to come back we definitely will. The people working there were very nice as well. Thank you!
Perfection on a plate and service with a smile. The Rambling Rose is a Montagu staple experience whenever we pass through. For the past 3-4 years, we've gone multiple times a year and the one thing that stands out is CONSISTENCY.
Same excellent food. Same fantastic service. Same value for money. An efficiently run establishment speaks volumes about management's values. Love it!
Awesome little family-run spot. Great breakfast and coffees with very attentive service from the owner and his staff. Very helpful with high chairs and snacks for our 11 month old baby boy too. A great pitstop on your way through Montagu or a proper sit down if spending some time in the area.
The sauces and other condiments were another great little touch.
Wow! The Rambling Rose goes down as the best place I've ever had breakfast at! The food was top class, the staff was amazingly friendly, and the atmosphere was super relaxing and tranquil. The smell of freshly baked bread, croissants, and various other baked goods greets you as you enter. We made sure to go back to purchase some of these baked goods and homemade jams to bring home with us. I highly, highly recommend The Rambling Rose whenever you visit Montagu.
An absolute must visit, the meal was very good. The Guys and Girls read every wish from your lips. Small and conftable Souvenir Shop too. Please when you are in the near visit this Place.
