I hadnt been for a few years and was pleasantly surprised to find the food at the same high level as before. The Lamb Rack possibly the best restaurant meal I had in 2023. Took my wife with me a few days later and had two sublime pasta meals... service also at a higher level. Great that they have sound absorbing materials on walls and ceiling si its not too noisy.
Not sure why it's taken me so long to review A Tavola when I have been coming here for over a decade and probably tried everything there is on their menu.
Simply put: The standard by which all other Italian restaurants are measured for me (and I've been to Rome, Naples and Positano!)
It's one thing that the food is always, exceptional, but then the fact that it's always consistent too is what brings me back every time.
The ambience is ideal, with noise reduction a pleasant addition that makes chatting to other patrons a pleasure
The service is the kind that leaves someone like me who's been in the service industry for over a decade and who loves eating out continuously using A Tavola as a reference on how professionals should conduct themselves: Quiet, efficient and always one step ahead of the customer to the point where you think they are reading minds!
The best Italian food in Cape Town
The evening was not planned , so we had no booking but was accommodated without any problems. Highly recommend booking a table as the establishment was pretty full .
Our night was made by our waitress Siphokazi. So beautiful , friendly and recommended very good choices . She even let us have a taste between two wines as she did not want us to be disappointed….. needless to say her recommendation was the one we chose - she was spot on.
She also recommended some mains to us - and even adjusted to our needs - which wasn’t necessarily on the menu .
Food was great - but definitely ask for Siphokazi if you visit .
Will definitely return .

A wonderful restaurant that was busy and had a great atmosphere. They have a large menu as well as specials - so there is something for everyone. The food was absolutely divine from the starters to dessert. A favourite at our table was the Linguine Gamberoni! The desserts were also delicious, I loved the Torta di Cioccolato. The staff were attentive despite how busy it was. I will definitely return.
Absolutely amazed with the mushroom pasta - would come back over and over again just for that dish.
They can also offer many other vegetarian options that aren't on the menu - you just need to ask.
Chocolate tart also awesome - not too sweet and great texture.
Much worth the visit and slightly high prices.

Cosy Italian restaurant, haven't been back for over a year (lockdown). The service is wonderful and our meals arrived so quickly!

A lovely vibe with immaculate Italian cuisine. We started with the zucchini fries, followed by the chicken and veal meatball pasta, and the mussel, shrimp and calamari pasta. Highly recommended!
