Review Capello - Kempton Park

Menu is limiting. Ended up ordering waffles and water. Service can be improved.

Food was lovely and perfectly creamy (ordered the creamy chicken and mushroom pasta). Service was great in even the busiest time. The muffin was dry though.

The staff are so wonderful and kind. We had a big family lunch as part of the family were immigrating. We needed quick options that would be good no matter the dietary restrictions. They put countless tables and chairs next to each other for all of us to sit. Made sure the children had their food first. Their chocolate croissant was really good. Note that their soda bottles are glass with no lids so you need to drink it all at the restaurant. Their service was fast as we didn't have a lot of time.

Always happy with the food and service at Cappelo. My family meet there whenever someone is flying out, or arriving and we’re never disappointed.

Yummy food. Delicious coffee. Service was a bit slow, but I guess it was really busy. Some of the plates/cup were chipped. Overall a pleasant experience. Staff worked hard to accommodate our requests.

If you are at O.R. Tambo and need something to eat, be sure to visit Capello!

The best place to eat at before you catch a flight or if you saying goodbye to someone it has such homey meals and the waiters take care of your every need

My husband and I enjoyed our breakfast at Cappello when we arrived to the airport. We had skipped our plane meals and were ready to eat! Our meal was tasty, simple, and the service was great. The coffee was good, too! We didn’t have issues with the timing of when we were served. But we arrived from an early flight when stores were just opening.

I was looking forward to one last waffle before I left SA, you don't get decent waffles in the UK. the menu said "waffle with Amarena cherries". The waffle was hard as a bicuit and came with strawberries. The waitress couldn't explain why I got strawberries instead of cherries, nor was there an apology. I think it's bad management and training. Also took ages to get the bill.

Stay far away! Absolutely the best rip off ever. Flavourless food. Milkshake was TINY and Disgusting for ZAR. Crap service even by South African standards!
Dominique
Stay away! Ordered a Napoletana that tasted like All Gold tomato sauce mixed with sugar! When I asked for Parmesan they offered cheddar cheese! very disappointing considering I had no time to order something else before my flight!
Have now waited half hour for a bill that is hand written also told that the sparkling water that I originally ordered that is out of stock must either be paid by me or the waitress!! What a joke
Dennis Naidoo
What a pathetic excuse for a cafe.. always under- staffed. Always out of stock. Unfriendly manager. Poorly trained staff. The list goes on.. you better of catching your flight hungry..

Relatively very slow service. Coffee and food was below average - everything was overpoweringly sweet. Coffee freezos was bland and watery while the mojito tasted similar to my mouth wash.

The waiters and waitresses were very friendly though.

blocked basins, urinals flooded all over the floor. worst service. 6 people at the table 30 minutes between the first and the last meal served. terrible, cold food. absent manager. waiters running to "serve" "customers " in the parking area but ignoring patrons at tables. will never go there to waste my time and money again.

After seeing off international visitor decided stop off here.Prices like all airport ones are expensive and overpriced due location.Service friendly .Coffee wasn't that good and milkshake could be better, too milky.Food tramezzini was okay

So my grandparents were heading back to new zealand and we thought after an emotional goodbye we'd have something to eat.

honestly speaking i should've climbed in their hand luggage because after this experience i want to get as far away from this place as possible.

i had the open sandwich with chilli mayo and my brother had the avo version both on ciabatta. my sister opted for a cheese sandwich.

the ciabatta felt like it walked from italy to get onto my plate, it was stale and just terrible, and for R103 the toppings were definitely not worth it. The food was bland and boring and not fresh at all.

i wouldn't recommend this overpriced place to anyone unless you want to have south africa's worst meal before you head back to your country.

It was adequite and available while we were in transit at the airport. Needs some personsl attention and some caring to make customers feel welcome.
Hasan Wadvalla
Very disappointed. Very expensive for portion sizes. R66 for a toasted cheese is a rip off. Milk tart milkshake was just an ordinary vanilla milkshake with cinnamon sprinkles. This place has a captive unsuspecting audience and I suspect that is the reason for high prices. I would not visit this place again. It's a rip off. I too would give this a zero rating.
Brenda Stewart-Garden
AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! If there was less than 1 star I would rate it less! Incredibly expensive. I felt thoroughly ripped off. Find another place!

When Capellos makes milkshakes, it brings all the boys to the yard! 😂

We went in a large group to see a friend off & just had a round of hot drinks while waiting for him to board.
We had the:
Hot chocolate- this wasn't bad, it was a bit too milky for me, but some may like it that way.
Coffee- nice, but nothing special
Milkshakes & cappuccinos were also nice.
Our waiter was friendly & the vibe is bustling.

I had lunch at Cappello in my way back from Johannesburg airport. Friendly team and clean place with tasty burger and chicken shnizel. French fricr with paprika where amazing. Make sure to try it

Was dropping in-laws and thought we would have a bite to eat - both a good and bad idea ! Cappello's was busy when we arrived but service was friendly and we received our coffee order quite quickly .. we then ordered a hamburger and Alfredo .. it must be noted that by this time Cappello was now much quieter and yet this simple order took half an hour. My hubby had the Alfredo which was really good - my hamburger in the other hand was grim .. it wasn't very hot, it was tough and quite horrid ☹️ the chips were lovely though! It is very expensive for what it is and I think they should reduce their menu and focus on doing a few things really well (menu does not look like the Zomato version !). It has a captive audience sadly and OR Tambo boasts nothing decent - it is usually a hit or miss !!!

Cappello - I was at the Airport to drop off my parents on their early morning flight before which we decided to sip quick coffee at Cappello. This place had a relaxed ambience and a decent sit out area. We ordered their Chai Latte and Cappucino. Their Chai Latte was good but nothing great. Their Cappucino was average and cold. Their service was quick though and the staff was friendly. However, the food here is quiet expensive.

Overall, I had an average experience but would be back to try some of their options from their Breakfast Menu.

Anyone leaving or arriving in South Africa choosing to stop at Cappello will sadly be left with a bad taste in their mouth. We ordered a round of iced coffees, trying out all the different flavours. Not all were available, they were very expensive and none of them were good! The service we received was incredibly slow. The only motivation of the waitresses were to get us to sit down and then to hurry us off as soon as the bill was settled. A very disappointing experience indeed.
Jessica
Couldn't even tell you what your foods like your service was so shit. Sat there for 20 minutes before we left with not so much as one waiter attending us, or your manager who walked past several times. I get its an airport, so times can be busy, but it's called staff and training
Kaylyn
If you're in a rush this is not the place to eat, service was quiet slow and they seem to be out of stock on many drink items, food in general is very expensive, however the waitress was super friendly and pleasant

When dropping of our son at the airport we had some extra time before he had to board and we decided to have dinner together at the airport. We ended up at Capello because of a very friendly waiter. We were positively surprised about the food. It was good for an airport restaurant. On top of that they have some nice non-alcoholic cocktails.
Rita
The manager's service was absolutely disgusting and atrocious. Manager did not care or bother to do his job, with a completely rude attitude towards his customers.
Jatin Mistry
Yet again poor service from cappellos. Exactly 2 weeks ago we were here... The service went from bad to worse. Well done guys. Good presentation and friendly staff but useless with their standard or service.
Christiaan Strydom
I've never really been a fan of airport restaurants, the food quality is usually substandard and the prices hyperinflated. But eating at Cappello was a bit of a pleasant surprise. The staff were friendly, and the manager came to ask how we were doing twice.

I ordered an omelette which was tasty and filling too. One of our party members informed the waitress that he doesn't eat mushrooms, and she substituted his mushrooms for avo which I thought was nice.

As far as airport food goes, Cappello is definitely a good choice
Simone DeWet
Really bad standard for a Cappello's - food had no flavour and was way to expensive for the quality of food. We waited too long to be served.

For some reason I love dining at an airport. Ive eaten here on 2 seperate occasions. The pasta's are really good but the jalapeno steak is hands down a winner here for me. I managed to eat the whole thing without any help from hubby. He had his own steak, with eggs, baked beans, mushrooms and slices of toast. It was dinner but he loves a hearty breakfast meal at any odd hour. Both our choices were excellent. I had a sex on the beach mocktail to wash down the spicy chilli tucked into my perfectly prepared steak. It was soo refreshing and pretty to look at. Overall excellent, including the service. Will be back again without a doubt.

A good location for a captive market, (outside international departures at OR Tambo), which is ideal for them as their service leaves little to be desired. The food isn't bad, but the servers are poorly trained and rude. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they needed to kill an hour or two before a flight.

Has a burger advertise for R24.95 which shows a piece of cheese on the picture, when we got the burger it had no cheese, requested a slice of cheese, now your average restaurant charge about R7.00 per slice, end up paying R18.00 per slice, asked the manager afterwards and he shuts you down. cant believe I had to R72.00 for 4 x slices of cheese. Daylight robbery
Gareth
terrible waiter service. sat down for sometime and the manager had to come and ask. at this point I was not interested, continued to sit, still no waiter. manager came back and spoke of about me no ordering, he then sent a waiter. then asked to pay up for one drink, still waited sometime for a waiter. just terrible, typically SA restaurant service.
A typical transit type restaurant with a better than average ambiance to get that quick bite and coffee craving before you jet off to your destination. The service is quick and efficient which is needed given short waiting periods before a flight or check in.
Decor and ambiance is quite welcoming with an earthy contemporary design making it a better choice of restaurants to get that quick craving. Menu selection is good however prices are high for even the most simplest of dishes or meal however it is located at the international part of the airport which would be expected.
Went for the open ciabatta sandwich with halloumi and aubergines which was really average and lacked any basic flavours. The ciabatta was non existent but rather a brown toasted roll which was rather disappointing. The Americano though was a really great cup of strong coffee which was a nice kick start to the morning.

Have tried other options on the menu previously and it was much better tasting which still gives me hope of returning to this restaurant though there's not many other options at the Airport before check in.

Absolutely pathetic service and ridiculously overpriced!! Worst restaurant I've ever been to!!! Took 25min for a toasted sandwich. It cost R74 and was absolutely tiny!!! This place should be closed down!
Monique Van Tonder
Although the reviews for Cappello reflect an average experience, we had a good time here - nothing much to complain about. The atmopshere is nice, seats are cozy and the menu is quite expansive.

Fiancé and I had a cappucino each, then a bolognese pasta for myself and a chicken schnitzel for him. The bolognese was tasty enough, a bit scant on the meat but isn't pasta always like that? The chicken schnitzel porrions were also a bit small but at least cooked well, served nicely and definitely not lacking in taste.

All in all a nice meal, service was fast enough and food was good. The price was a bit steep but on par for a restaurant meal in an airport. Wouldn't mind going back and trying some of the other bites.

18.05.2016 Quick stop for a bite to eat and drink before my friend flew off. The staff were efficient and on the ball and the food was brought to us in record timing. Yes we ordered something simple, toasted spinach feta and olives. It was tasty and loved the chips. To drink I had the pomegranate and cranberry soda. A little sweet but it was good enough.

I have noticed that quite a few restaurants at the airport have closed down and I think they might all be Famous Brand franchises (Mugg and Bean, The Keg, Fournos) and I've heard that the new restaurants in place of those are not that great. We were dropping off family at the airport and decided to have a quick breakfast. My sister mentioned Cappello's for was good. I ordered the French Breakfast (Crossiant with scrambled eggs and salmon). The croissant was delicious and scrambled eggs were fluffy and creamy. We also ordered a triple chocolate cake to share. The cake looked better than it tasted. Our waitress was extremely slow. Not sure if she was a trainee. She kept going back and forth to bring things to the table. We also had to ask her multiple times to get things.

Cappello on the international side of the airport looks very inviting and the lounge chairs are quite comfortable. My cappuccino came luke warm and hardly any foam, but on a good note they did make a new one at no extra cost. Garrick Clark had the Texas breakfast and enjoyed the toast and the eggs, everything else was literally a waste of money. The beef sausage tasted processed along with the beef patty. I had the jumbo bran muffin which was good. The service was good but there weren't many customers, it may be quiet hectic when the airport is busy.

At the airport this morning dropping off some family, and decided to try out the Cappellos. I ordered a Latte, and a toasted chicken mayo on white. The chicken mayo was not great at all, the sandwich was a little soggy, and there wasn't much filling on the inside. We also ordered a piece of triple mousse cake, which was nice but a little stodgy.

Had a quick cup of coffee here recently before my sisters flight. The seating is actually pretty nice for an airport, the service was really good and the manager friendly.

Had a cappuccino and which was good. My sister had a chai latté which she felt was quite average, especially given the price. Their warm drinks are definitely a bit on the steep side.

Overall, great spot for a quick airport meal or drinks with friendly staff and a warm feel.
Mark
Absolutely terrible all round. Service is very slow which doesn't make sense as its an AIRPORT! This place is taking their positioning for granted, very poor.

The worst service I have ever experienced. We arrived & placed our drinks order, which took about 10mins to be delivered. We then placed our food order which was 1 chicken burger to share, an open sandwich with haloumi, mushrooms & mozzarella; and a veg meal which was haloumi, mushrooms, baked beans, toast & chips. The order arrived 1 hour later. The food was cold & had missing items on both veg meals. Each time we asked for the order to be checked on, we didn't receive any feedback.
This is the last time we will come here, there are plenty of restaurants at the airport that one could go to.

Just popped in for drinks as we waited for my dad's flight. Took about fifteen minutes to flag down a waitress, who left us with the menus for 20 minutes. Had no idea where she was. When she eventually took our orders, it was evident that so many of their drink choices were unavailable. We waited so long for the drinks, and my niece didn't get what she wanted. Only found out when the waitress brought everyone's else's drinks. Urgh.
Their saving grace is that when they eventually do give you want you want, it's yummy. Their drinks are good, but the service is terribly annoying.

Thinga Evidence Mukwevho this was my worst restaurant experience. Food is freak' expensive and really bad. We walked in at 19:45, ordered drinks which toon 15 minutes to come, I ordered 'Spicy Lamb chops with chips' this is 155 by the way. Someone ordered the same with pap, the other ordered a beef prego roll. Also asjed for buffalo wings on the side. We were very hungry we asked for bread or focaccia they said they don't have but can sell us plain slices of bread for 9.00 a slice. Then we asked for a bran muffin which came 20 minutes later. We couldn't take it since it was too late and we thought the food will have arrived. Then we got told there's no meat for the prego and we asked for the rump and prawns and to my surprise this was the first meal that we were served. It's 189.00 3 prawns, 300g steak and 10 chips. We waited, when that plate is finished then the wings came but it was my first time to see buffalo wings like that. There was a drumstick and a thigh and 3 end parts of a wing, never a full wing, they were drenched in some sauce. It was more like chicken in gravy. As we were still in awe and have asked the waiter (Mandisa) and she just smiled, lamb chops came, they were covered in the same sauce as the mysterious wings, and I asked if they were saucy chops or spicy. In my plate, 1 chop was very cold like it was not thoroughly defrosted, the other better but tasted off, the other raw, this is after I waited for over 1/2 an hour. We asked to see the manager, waited for 1/2 an hour. Apparently he went to KFC, then went to the fridge then got busy with whatever. Eventually the arrogant Rudzani came and didn't want to listen, didn't see a problem because we ate some of the food. He offered a slice of cake. I felt insulted, then after a long discussion and I had asked the waiter to come confirm everything he said 25% off the bill which is still a rip off because we were still hungry and we went through a lot of crap. This guy caused a scene accusing me of being dramatic. Still charged me for wrong things.

A quick trip to the airport to say goodbye to my dad left us snacking at Capello ☺
Death by chocolate cake, mocachino and an amaretto freezo were enjoyed by the three of us 👌

After landing at OR Tambo. We went out for dinner at this restaurant. We were greeted by alert staff who were looking for customers.

We sat down and ordered drinks a glass of orange juice and something they call Irish Cream Frappe (more like dirty warm with ice and cream mixed with coffee). This was swiftly replaced with a glass of H2O.

We then ordered food, at our own risk. It was no surprise when the Ray Burger and Al Pollo pasta arrived and they both tasted average. The burger was dry, lacking seasoning and flavoring. While the pasta was all over the non existent chicken pieces that I had to search for in the pasta.

Overall, this is clearly not a place to dine but rather an express restaurant where one should expect compromised quality in the taste.

Melissa Claassens
After a mixup with our international flight, #Etihad gave us a voucher for a cup of coffee to keep us calm, thx! Had a hazelnut latte and pancakes, was a great distraction from the chaos! Service just to slow for a airport, should be crisp and fast. Otherwise nice restaurant

On the airport run.. Cappello's is actually better than most of the offerings and I have been here a few times.. On my Saturday visit here, I opted for the usual favourite, a milkshake and some tea. They offer very good salads and snacks, which I have had on another occasion, but for the prices that they charge - I expect that.

To be honest, what I find strange with this spot is that they are always so keen to seat you, but once you are seated one battles to then get any service or the bill. I had to get up twice to try to get the bill at the counter and some change. As such, this is not a spot I would recommend if you are in a rush.

We picked Capello to have a quick bite and coffee before seeing a family member off on holiday. Capello is not usually my first choice, but the Mugg and Bean is closed (renovations?). Hubby and I both had tramezzinis and coffee. The food was really good and the portion size an improvement on a previous visit. The chips were the best I have had in a long time. Unfortunately the service is just too slow. It just takes too long to find your waiter to place any orders or even get your bill. The restaurant really didn't appear to have a shortage of wait staff.

It's been a while @ the ORTambo airport with no much choice of food other than the chain restaurants. For a change it was nice @ the capello. The ambience was too good, the lights made u more energised. The food was good for a grab and go.The service was excellent.
Shannon Claire Moodie
We only had 45minutes to get something to eat. The service was fast and super friendly, our waiter, John, was pleasant and understood the need for quick service. The meals were tasty and served fast. Unfortunately the burger was a bit bland and the roll was not fresh, but the pastas were delicious. Drinks and coffee were served fast and tasted great (virgin daiquiri and mojito). :-)
Jani Du Toit
Had breakfast at the Airport after dropping off my mother, the service and food was really delicious, but I was a little shocked at the price.@
Melissa Sanderson
Most appealing looking restaurant in this section of the airport. Unfortunately it's ridiculously expensive though. R56 for a cheese and tomato sandwich! Settled on a chicken mayo trammezzini but not thrilled at paying R77 for it. Food was decent but served with a bit of seriously limp lettuce on the side. Not sure how many plates it'd seen already...
Service was speedy and friendly.
Claire
Noticeably sub-standard services from various personnel at the restaurant. Many waiters trying to literally drag customers into the restaurant but once seated the same vociferousness vanishes completely. Basic drinks ordered took ages to be delivered. Food and drinks expensive. Recent revamp means the decor and tables etc are much improved but terrible service ruins experience. Also no liquor license?!
David Berry
Decent food. Mass produced patties though, so not much flavour in the burger. Very quick polite and efficient service from our waiter. Good but nothing to write home about. Menus need to be reprinted as well.
Janey
Dirty dirty menus, grill switched off already so unable to have calamari @9.50pm!! We paid for our waters & left - discrase

Lovely cocktails. Tables and menus always a bit sticky?! Service very average. Food good for quick lunch.
