We had a great time enjoying this little piece of history in the heart of Kalk Bay. We specifically went for the Scones, but had to order some muffins as well, as they didn't have enough Scones. The scones were yummy, served with butter, cream and strawberry jam, missing the cheese though. The muffins came with cheese, jam and butter. The manageress was very friendly and pleasant - there to crack a joke and if you need her, but not in your face constantly. We loved sitting inside the old coach, having a glimpse of what life would have been like in bygone years. I love these quirky spots with a story.
We love it here and we always bring the kids for waffles, pancakes and hot chocolate. Coffee and scones are great and service attentive. Old train carriage is lovely.
Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, delicious breakfast and great coffee.
Note: get the staff's attention before being seated as you are not visible to them if you are not seated in the train.
Whenever I'm in the area I have to come to the Expresso. I've loved this place since I was a kid and whenever I come back that childlike excitement comes back.
I always have a sweet pancake as I don't enjoy savoury pancakes at all. My favourite has become the banana in orange sauce. Their waffles are also quite good, not the best there is to offer but satisfying.
The service here is friendly and I love this quirky little train.
This is such a beautiful and cute little place. Very quiet and intimate. Perfect setting. The food was okay, it could have been better. I think I just made a mistake of ordering a burger at a cafe. Service was remarkable.
Enjoyed a lovely lunch today at this cute little train restaurant :) I ordered the ice coffee which was super delicious! And then had a scone with cream and jam as I wasn't too hungry! Overall was a very pleasant meal.
Our waitress was super friendly and everything arrived very quickly. Definitely a nice change to the usual brass bell. Deandra Catry
We had pancakes, waffles and ice cream. It was very nice. Nice sweets to finish off our day. I would recommend it to all of my friends. Nice for a Sunday afternoon meal.
Good coffee, friendly service, such a cute stop over on a trip around the southern peninsula, a must if you love trains. Only had a muffin and coffee, happy with both
I initially headed to Kalk Bay for the Ice Cafe ice cream (you can read my review there too). However, I was hungry after looking at about 7 restaurant menus, I settled on eating here. The ambience was fantastic. It is a cosy old train carriage that has been refurbished. I was really impressed with the decor & the "warmness" of the restaurant! It is run by 2 lovely ladies who were nothing but welcoming, friendly & beyond helpful. They both cook & serve. I felt the menu was limited & slightly overpriced. I opted for calamari & chips for R60. Presentation was great & the food tasted good. The only downfall was that the batter on my calamari was slightly underdone so when I got to the bottom of the pile, they were slightly soggy. Not bad, but also not great. As a side note, my partner ordered the salmon omelette (R75) & highly suspected he was given trout instead. Although he thoroughly enjoyed it. All in all, a great experience. The atmosphere definitely made up for the slight food related issues!
Great little spot for afternoon tea. Superb waffles and pancakes. Breakfast menu is limited and our food was very oily. Nice setting inside an old railway carriage.
