Difficult review.
Let's be honest - the restaurant is incredible and the food 5 star. I found our waiter to be a bit off but I think it was because we only ordered starter portions 😀 - which brings me to my main comment IT IS EXPENSIVE.
Honestly we eat out A LOT. Rarely have I seen prices at R 200 a starter and mains R 350 and upward. So be warned the food is really good but be prepared to bend the credit card.
Oh and my greatness the view cannot be described in words. It's breath taking.
The food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the seared paprika calamari for starter, seafood pasta, and chefs choice line fish (yellow tail for us). Lovely service, and also great brioche bread. 💯 would come back. Try to book to get a table next to the widows overlooking the sea.
I read the reviews, I agree that the tables are very close to each other BUT the views are fantastic, the restaurant is laid back and I felt the price is fair for what you get.
Service was good, I was a bit let down by the fact they did not have tuna and were unable to serve fish tartare but what we ordered was still really good
I had sardines and mussels which I highly recommend the rest of our party tried: the special of the day (yellowtail), calamari, tempura prawns and the surf and turf everyone enjoyed their food.
I liked that the restaurant still felt special without the heavy price and the view is priceless, will definitely go back. If you are considering live bait its worth it!
What a beautiful setting, just love the waves right here!! Our waitress was so amazing, a great sense of humour, efficient and friendly! And of course, the food was delicious!!
Had my birthday brunch here ,
Service very slow midday , however the food was delicious …
Tables very close to each other and we could hear the next door tables crazy conversation.
Dessert was delicious ,
Cute show from the seals 🦭

We initially planned take away fish and chip from Kalky’s to eat among the fishermen on the pier - with extra chips for the seagulls.
Kalky’s is closed on a Monday
We landed up at Live Bait watching the fishermen below
Yes there is a difference between casual supper with the locals on the pier and fine dining.
Hake and chips… as good as it gets
Calamari…. Even better
Best sushi 🍣 I’ve had in a while
And the walk on the pier after pulled it altogether
A good evening was had by all
Live Bait is more than just fine dining; it's a memorable Cape Town experience!

This restaurant has really nice fresh seafood. It is located right next to the sea. The views are quite stunning. Service was efficient and friendly. The fish platters were beautifully presented. The building is old and requires some maintenance being so close to the sea, but the restaurant is clean and spacious. Parking is plentiful although there are some strange characters hanging around but they seemed harmless.
Beautiful location. Wonderful service. Good food.
Had my birthday lunch there and it was one of my most memorable experiences. The food was delicious and it is a great choice for group reservations. Live Bait has a beautiful view of the ocean, an amazing ambience and the staff have very good hospitality. Would definitely recommend it. :)
The fish and chips is actually really good here. The setting is nice and the staff are efficient.
We also got the surf and turf, the steak was fine but the prawn where over cooked.
Dishes cost about R180-250
Most the table where reserved so keep that in mind.
