This place has food that brings me back every time. Service is good but even if it was bad the food is good enough to make it a gem of joburg. Feels like Lisboa away from the tourist trails, eating with the locals.
Often find myself returning to this little restaurant, but never sure what to expect. Service is always excellent, ambience unpredictable but usually vibrant, food always very affordable and edible but quality varies. Last night, however, I had the best espetado and chips imaginable and my friend a superb chicken peri-peri for an unbelievably good price, served by one of the best waitresses I've come across in years. In addition, a bottle of Beyerskloof pinotage was marked up by less than 50%. The entire experience was faultless.
It is the best food in the world .the food is to die for the chicken is tastey and delicious and ❤the service is so friendly the design is like madeira it's self
This is one of those hidden gems - really good, down to earth food at a good price with good, friendly service. We'll definitely be back soon!
So second time back after nearly two months and I have to say so much better this time around
Had the chourico and calamari starter and then the lamb chops as a main
Food was outstanding and service was excellent
Originally I had a 3.5 for this place but after yesterday it's upped to a 4.0
Well done Tasca I'll def come back for more
Keep up the good work
Good quality food at reasonable prices. Their daily specials are value for money and service at this restaurant is exceptional. I've had their prawns twice and will definitely be back to try other menu items. Although located in an odd spot, Tasca is well worth a visit.
Food 4/5
Service 4/5
Ambience 3/5
A good Portuguese restaurant hidden away in the suburbs. Ideal if you are not in a rush and prepared to take in the ambiance. Chicken and fish dishes a firm favourite. Konichiwa
Great authentic Portuguese food!
The resturant itself reminds me of sitting in a caffe in the countryside of Portugal.
The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly.
Be still my beating heart. These are the little gems that made me start reviewing in the first place. If you've read my reviews in the past, you will realize, I love a good beer, I love a clean place to eat, I love good service and the experience needs to be worth the money I'm spending. That being said, when you finally reach Tasca Dos Amigos you will experience all of the above. It's not untidy but rather Rustic. Quick hint, ask for Sam... she has a sense of humour and she brought food on time, always asked how we doing and wasn't scared to crack a smile. Love it love it love it. Yes, it's in Fairlands, yes it might not be mainstream but yes you should drive out of your way to get there. It's not fine dining, it's not flashy but a good meal out is more than that.... it's about how you feel when you leave, and if it's not... your a snob. Boomshakalaka....
There are hidden gems in Joburg and Tasca dos Amigos is definitely one of them. No-frills attached. It relies on the pillars of good restauranteering: great food, friendly service, and an authentic vibe. (It is a pity that they are not open on a Sunday).
I rate the peri-peri Chicken at No2 in Johannesburg.
A local favorite of mine. Service is great, and Precious was always attentive.
My prawns serving was generous, and the Portuguese sauce was excellent. My wife's meal also excellent all for a reasonable price.
A delicious Portuguese restaurant with a good vibe. The Espetada was excellent , authentic Portuguese style. The baby chicken was delicious, we got lemon and herb and it was a different lemon and herb than we are used to but was great. The service is very good. There is great seating inside and outside and safe parking.
We give J’s 5 stars !
Our waitress, Mapula, was so kind & looked after us so well. Very friendly vibe and amazing atmosphere for singles and/or family. Our food was nothing short of delicious. The seafood was bursting with flavours & our chicken & meat dishes were soft & juicy. Would definitely recommend J’s. The owners were hands-on, professional & accommodating to our every need. And bonus that their meals are so well priced. Thanks J’s team. We will be back soon.
Went here for a quick mid-week dinner with family. Great atmosphere. I had the grilled calamari and it was tasty. It is very popular and fills up quick around dinner time.
Excellent service and authentic Portuguese cuisine. Chicken nuggets here are the best ever I have tried . You will have to ask for the 1kg pork ribs as it’s not on the menu; absolutely worth it. Overall, the food is awesome.
Excellent food! Service just as good. We had Portuguese Peri-peri baby chicken. Accompanied by real patato chips. It has been a while since I had such a good meal at a "diner". We will visit again.
1st time at this Diner although been driving past it for 8 years. Went for a birthday spoil with the family and had an amazing time. Food was great, service was warm and friendly.
The birthday singing surprise was truly Surprising. Thanks to all at J's. We will be back and recommend you to all. Keep up the good vibes
Probably the most quickest and most efficient dining experience yet! And this says a lot about them because it was quite packed when we visited. Wow. The portions are ridiculously huge lol, from the starters i.e. Calamari, to the dessert i.e. Don Pedro. All the meals were freshly prepared and delicious, great food handling too! The staff were friendly and improved our dining experience. I'll definitely be visiting again next time I'm in the area!
Absolutely fantastic. It was my birthday and jt diner just happens to be in front of a bookshop. Bring your own alcohol or order from restaurant. I took my own. I hade the peri baby chicken R99.00!! Dom pedros all around! We were 6 people. Definitely go again.
The most amazing family restaurant. Good for birthdays and all celebrations. My new happy place.
