Great location for a relaxed time for people with children. Suitable food for kids (including fussy eaters) and options for adults are not too bad either. My rating is for the food, I would rate a 4 when taking the entire experience into account.

Visited Serendipity with friends and it was a super relaxing time. Our kids all had a ball - I see there are new outfits in the dress-up area and everything has had a fresh coat of paint. Thabane - you are wonderful - thanks for entertaining our kids. Marvelous crafts they all took home. Try the brie cheese buurger or the spinach salad with strawbs - yum. we will be back

Dear Serendipity Team - thank you for hosting my daughters birthday party - the Frozen Princess decor was a real fairytale come true! All the children were delighted - we hardly saw them for the duration of the party! Your childminders were involved and excellent - the chomp treasure hunt was a winner! The food was tasty and well presented - cheesecake yummy, carrot cake -sublime. A wonderful experience where the adults were able to chat - we'll be back as always, for our regular family time and playdates! The frozen birthday cake you arranged was spectacular and the source of much uhms and ahhhs - joy!

Found this spot after looking for a place to take my 5 year old twin nieces. The food was good, but more importantly my nieces had a blast. Thanks Serendipity! Myself along with my little people will definitely be back.

Absolute dream for parents with small children who want an outing without worrying about minding the kids ... The security is simple but effective and the security guard is really great and friendly especially with the kids... Once inside your kids are almost practically whisked away by the best trained minders at a restaurant I have ever experienced ... So as adults you have time to relax and read that book you have been wanting to or socialize with your friends and family, but alas you will be disappointed if you are going there expecting a great meal - the food is ok - nothing memorable and takes too long to prepare - some meals came literally 20 mins after the others at our table - but to its credit I think it is about the kids and for adults to unwind without the stress of wondering where and what the kids are up to and not the meal ... I had a great afternoon with family as a result ...

We held our sons 8th birthday Mimecraft and Lasertag themed birthday bash at Serendipity. The decor and venue looked really fabulous and the food was yummy. I received so many compliments from the other mums. The kids had a whale of a time and the child minders were attentive throughout the party!

If you are a parent with small children in Johannesburg you've probably already heard about Serendipity. And yes, it is all it's cracked up to be.

I've rated Serendipity a 4, not because of its food (which is average) or the service (which can be mediocre) but because of their stellar childminders who will literally keep your tot occupied for hours on end.

They guided my toddler to playing first in the various jungle gyms and play houses scattered through the garden setting, then to the ball pit, the sandpit, and to the trampoline, then had him riding little bikes around and eventually chilling on the swings.

Yes, I waited about an hour for my meal to come but at least I could have a decent conversation with my friends for that hour, while our kids were entertained by some very skilled and engaged childminders. When my breakfast eventually came, it was perfectly decent, so even with the wait, I can't really complain that much.

They have a big breakfast menu and a separate lunch menu, but being a family oriented place, they're perfectly happy to serve you breakfast even at noon. If you're not up for a full meal, there's always tea and cake to be had. The kiddie menu will keep your kids suitably fueled for all the playing they will do.

But let's face it, people don't come here for the food. Kids have a blast at the place. Smaller ones love the play equipment, older ones love the arts and crafts room, and as soon as they know what "dress up" means they all go a little crazy in the dressing up room. Seeing tots dressed as dragons, lions and fairies wandering around the garden are par for the course.

If you want to be outdoors, don't want to drive very far, and want to have a quiet meal without bolting after your children every five minutes, this is the place to go. The childminder fee (R45 for the first child, R40 for the second, and R30 for each thereafter) is worth every penny.

Serendipity is my go-to restaurant for children. It's on a quiet street that's very central to Rosebank and the Gautrain, so I've even had friends stop in on their way to the airport.

The restaurant itself is primarily in a large garden of a house, but there are tables inside the house, too, for when it rains. Parents and grandparents sit at tables (with large umbrellas when it's sunny) with a perfect view of the children playing in the yard.

The play area is populated with childminders who catch, chase, and carry the children as needed. For that reason, you pay a small fee (R40?) for each child you bring into the restaurant. One childminder, Thabani, has a groupie following, the children love him so much. He also excels at teaching art classes in the art room inside. Think "rainbow paint hand prints."

The food is simple, like burgers and toasted cheese sandwiches. Kids like the milkshakes and french fries.

Serendipity is a great party venue. The restaurant organizes a marquee with tables, chairs, and a buffet table. You can choose from various packages. My son's 3rd birthday was there and it went splendidly.

For an easy-peasy three hour break that's fun for you and the kids, try Serendipity.

We decided to go try out serendipity and Im so glad i did not read the previous review before making a decision. The place was recently taken over by new owners and I think they have a lot of potential. I'm really impressed with the childminders. Its my first time to see male childminders and the guys do a sterling job. The food was great and reasonably priced. We will definitely be back!

Nice place to bring the kids to have fun. Child minders allow for parents to have a bit of a break, security guard is friendly. Food is okay, a bit slow to arrive. Playground equipment looks a tad old, but not off putting. Cheerful place, but nothing too fancy. Will go again.
